Hey guys, I'm relatively new to competitive battling, and I am more of a casual player than anything. I've been following the metagame for a while, and I'm a fan of the UU and lower tiers, OU just isn't my thing to be honest, not sure why. I decided I'd chuck together a team for RU play (I have yet to test it) - it is primarily offensive with SD Feraligatr, Scarf'd Typhlosion and Medicham and LO Drapion, with two defensive PKMN in Sandslash and Slowking. So without further ado, here is my RU team. --- ![]() Feraligatr (F) @ Life Orb Trait: Torrent EVs: 100 HP / 252 Atk / 156 Spd Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Swords Dance - Aqua Jet - Waterfall - Return Description: One of my favorite 'mons, Feraligatr is extremely hard to stop after a Swords Dance. Initially I was considering a DD set with Waterfall, Return and Ice Punch, but the sheer power of this set is hard to pass up. Crunch is an option over return to take out Cofagrigus and Slowking, but then the set is walled by Poliwrath and does less damage to Lanturn. --- ![]() Sandslash (F) @ Leftovers Trait: Sand Veil EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk) - Rapid Spin - Stealth Rock - Earthquake - Stone Edge Description: Stealth Rocker and Spinner, this would likely be my lead poke as Rocks would help my team enormously, giving most pokes some residual damage that will net me some OHKOs on Pokes that I can't normally KO in one shot. A spinner is essentially to protect my Typhlosion from losing 25% of her HP on every swith, as that would weaken her Eruption. EQ is there for the obvious STAB, and Stone Edge rounds out the EdgeQuake combo - Toxic is also an option here, haven't fully made up my mind. This is also my physical wall, thus the Impish nature and EVs in HP and Defense. --- ![]() Slowking (F) @ Leftovers Trait: Regenerator EVs: 248 HP / 144 Def / 116 SDef Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk) - Scald - Slack Off - Psyshock - Thunder Wave Description: My special wall, pretty much your standard Slowking support set. Scald and Psyshock gives me dual STAB, Slack Off gives me recovery on top of the HP I get back from Lefties and Regenerator. Scald is also useful because of the 30% chance of a burn, which will cripple a lot of physical attackers. --- ![]() Typhlosion (F) @ Choice Scarf Trait: Blaze EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Eruption - Fire Blast - Hidden Power [Grass] - Focus Blast Description: The second Johto starter in this team, Typhlosion is my special attacker, and boasts an incredibly powerful STAB in Eruption, as well as Fire Blast once my HP starts to dwindle. HP Grass is for Quagsire and Rhydon, and will also do some damage to bulky Waters. HP Rock is an option, as it would give me a good counter to Moltres, Entei and Charizard. Focus Blast is a bit inaccurate for my liking, but it gives me a more powerful option against Rhydon, and is generally just a good coverage move. --- ![]() Medicham (F) @ Choice Scarf Trait: Pure Power EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk) - Hi Jump Kick - Psycho Cut - ThunderPunch - Rock Slide Description: Choice Scarf Medicham means that Medicham becomes a 'mon that can annihilate teams once Ghost-types are gone. Hi Jump Kick is the obvious STAB, as it annihilates almost everything that doesn't resist it. Psycho Cut is the obvious choice for secondary STAB. ThunderPunch is for Flying pokemon and Slowking, who resists both Hi Jump Kick and Psycho Cut. Rock Slide gives me an attack that can take out Charizard, Moltres, Entei and Typhlosion if need be. Running a CB set is another option here, giving 'Cham enormous power. --- ![]() Drapion (F) @ Life Orb Trait: Sniper EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk) - Crunch - Pursuit - Earthquake - Aqua Tail Description: Gives me a PKMN that can absorb Toxic Spikes if need be, as well as trap Ghost-types with Pursuit. Crunch is there for reliable STAB, and EQ and Aqua Tail are coverage moves. Ice Fang is an option as it allows me to take out Grass-types as well as Ground-types, but Aqua Tail hits the latter much harder and Typhlosion can usually take care of Grass-types relatively easily. Also considering a more defensive set, with Whirlwind and Toxic Spikes to phaze and rack up residual damage from the entry hazards. --- As I have said, this is my first RMT, but don't hold back. I have also been considering swapping my Slowking for a Gardevoir with Wish, Heal Bell and Will-O-Wisp, as Wish support is always good and Heal Bell would allow me to get rid of any burns that Feraligatr may acquire. Any recommended changes will be accepted and I will try them out and respond to them. I don't think I've broken any of the rules, but if I have let me know and I'll fix 'em ASAP. |
