Default Bisharp

(This is my first thread ^_^)

I've looked around a few different places, and I don't really see much creative use with Bisharp. I think he's got a lot of potential, with great typing, awesome attack and access to STAB Sucker Punch.





HP: 65
Attack: 125
Defense: 100
Sp.Atk: 60
Sp.Def: 70
Speed: 70


Here's my favorite set I like to run:

Bisharp like Chess

Nature: Adamant
Ability: Defiant
Item: Dread Plate
EV: 252 Spd / 200 Atk / 56 Sp. Def
~Moveset~
-Sucker Punch
-Revenge / Brick Break
-Taunt
-Swords Dance

The point of this set is to switch in on something that you know that Bisharp can live through if he doesn't attack for a turn or two. Get in a Swords Dance, and let the fun begin. If you believe your opponent is going to attack, just use Sucker Punch or whichever fighting move you picked. If you don't think he's going to attack, get in another swords dance while he sets up. If your opponent is setting up something annoying as hell, or you know that Bisharp is faster than your opponent who's setting up, use Taunt, and if Bisharp is faster, your opponent will lose a valuable turn. After the Taunt, Sucker Punch will be sure to land, and has priority. Also, if you decide to run Revenge, it'll always get the doubled power, and 120 base power is nice.

If you haven't realized, the point of this set is to predict what your opponent is going to do, and on some teams, that's really easy to do. It's almost like you're playing chess... Hmm...

I prefer to use Revenge over Brick Break, but that's because that plays into the whole prediction thing. If you feel like Bisharp is going to be in danger and won't have time to take an extra hit to do more damage, run him with Brick Break instead.

Any other thoughts on this guy?

I've always been an advocate of the Sub-SD set, it's rather prediction heavy but oh-so deadly if played properly.

Ability: Defiant
200 HP / 252 Att / 56 Def
~Substitute
~Swords Dance
~Sucker Punch
~Iron Head/Brick Break

I always prefer Iron head myself, this is to hit mons like Defensive Hitmontop and Heracross harder.

I find that Spikes help more than anything else here, as almost every good check/counter to Bisharp is seriously threatened by the residual damage.

Bisharp tears shit up

I generally like sets that involve more than just mindless attcking. Running subsitute with bisharp could be really fun, Ill have to look into that.

Dual screen support would also be useful for just about any bisharp set involving swords dance.

It's a brilliant surprise Poke, top annoyer and potential late game sweeper. I've used it early game before and for it's trade off, it took down 2 opponent Pokes ( an Azelf and Sableye) - with Leftovers as the item!

Brilliant.

I have a set that may or may not work. I just thought of this set, but I am not so sure Bisharp can use it Effectively.

This was just a brainwave I had. I have not experimented yet, but I will on PO soon. I hope that this Paraflinch set works

I love Bisharp! So many OU players are just so unprepared for it, and I just 6-0 their team with Sucker Punch. I'm talking about the SubSD set. Like Zwaken said, it is very prediction heavy, but is an incredibly important member of the team and forces a lot of Pokes like Chandelure into a checkmate position-do I attack Bisharp to kill it if it Subs, or do I switch out in fear of Sucker Punch(cause that 1HKO's Chandy). What if it subs on the switch though? If you(the one with the Bisharp)predict correctly, then the opponent will be at a major disadvantage.

I like the basic ideas of this set, personally. Bisharp's base Attack is high enough to the point where a Swords Dance isn't 100% necessary, and a STAB Sucker Punch could also be pretty effective nonetheless. I don't find Taunt the most effective move on a Pokemon like Bisharp, simply because it feels like a wasted turn on a more Attack-focused Pokemon. If I were to change the above set, it'd look like this:

Bisharp@Leftovers
Impish Nature
Ability: Defiant

252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spd

-Sucker Punch
-Substitute
-Iron Head
-Thunder Wave/Stealth Rock

Just thought I'd give my input to possible sets for Bisharp; it appears to be a very versatile Pokemon that can manage a good deal with its numerous resistances.

Considering Bisharp has awful defenses this seems hard.

There is no prediction involved because the only thing Bisharp can do is Sucker Punch. Hate to break it to you but nobody will be surprised by this.
