Wallbreaking NU The Walls in NU are known for being notiriously difficult to break. With Tangela possessing Blissey-esque defence, Quagsire neglecting stat boosts and Lickilicky just generally being a tank. If you're like me and hate playing against defensive teams and always struggle to break through the powerful cores these teams then thi is the thread before you. I present The Wallbreakers of Neverused! The Purpose of this Thread: I made this thread to discuss potential Wallbreakers and Stallbreakers in the Neverused Metagame. The goal is to discover sets that not only dismantle defensive cores, but also have use(no matter how limited) against the rest of the metagame. What to do: Comment on previously posted Wallbreakers, suggesting changes or proving its effectiveness if debated. What not to do: SpamPost terrible sets or Outclassed sets(mixed Ursaring or something like that) What is a Wall? For most wall-breakers I used the following as walls:
...
I know thats not all of them, it was just the ones that are notoriously difficult to break. In your own wallbreakers feel free to include any that you feel help your argument.I guess I'll get us started with a Wallbreaker that I feel surpasses no other Emboar (F) @ Expert Belt Trait: Blaze EVs: 148 Atk / 252 SAtk / 108 Spd Mild Nature (+SAtk, -Def) - Superpower - Fire Blast - Grass Knot - Hidden Power [Ice] This set can outspeed and OHKO the four most prominent walls in Neverused: Lickilicky, Tangela, Quagsire and Altaria. Emboar is probably the best Wallbreaker in NU because of his vast movepool and mixed offenses. Outside of the four pokemon previously mentioned it can also combat many other grass types and maintain offensive pressure throughout the match. No Pokemon in NU can safely switch into this Emboar without taking significant damage from at least one move. Another more interesting Wall-breaker in NU is Pinsir Pinsir (M) @ Life Orb Trait: Mold Breaker EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk) - X-Scissor - Swords Dance - Earthquake - Stone Edge Pinsir's amazing ability Moldbreaker allows him to bypass Quagsire's unaware and Swords Dance in his face. After a Swords Dance Pinsir is capable of 2HKO'ing all of the aforementioned walls after Stealth Rock. Although that is not as impressive as Emboar; Pinsir has much more utility against other team styles. And if you can keep Stealth Rock off of the field he can freely switch in and demolish multiple times. Tangela is almost always OHKO'd if it switches in on Swords Dance; Quagsire and Lickilicky are all 2HKO'd, Altaria is OHKO'd and the others are also defeated. Unfortunately this set struggles against Misdreavus, who can WoW as she takes a +2 Earthquake.
...
I feel there are a lot of Wallbreaking options that are still unexplored and the discovery of them has the potential to shake up the metagame significantly. Don't be afraid to post innovative sets if you know they work but please test your sets first. I know this isn't a great OP; my writing skills need work(I'm trying to improve them) and I probably didn't convey the purpose of this thread very well so I'll say it one last time. This thread is for the discussion of Wallbreakers in the tier Neverused. A Wallbreaker is a Pokemon that can effectively incapacitate many pokemon in a common defensive core. Feel free to post your own Wallbreaker sets or comment on previously posted ones.

Standard Guts Ursaring makes a really, really potent wall breaker in NU. Being one of the few mons to possess the ability to 2HKO Tangela on the physical side.
Ursaring @ Flame Orb / Toxic Orb Trait: Guts Nature: Adamant -Protect / Swords Dance -Facade -Close Combat -Crunch Often times I don't find the need to swords dance, since ursa just packs so. much. power. 49.4% - 58.4% to 252/252 bold Tangela with Facade. 58.6% - 69.1% to 252/252 bold Misdreavus with Crunch. 44.9% - 52.8% to 252/0 Adamant Regirock with Close Combat. it doesn't matter what you throw in Ursa's way, it's going to get hit. And it's going to get hit HARD. EDIT: to avoid double posting, I also had success with Pinsir in earlier rounds as an effective wallbreaker to ability abusers like Missy, Weezing and Eelektross. Mold Breaker is so handy in nulling those abilities so that all Pinsir has to do esentially is sit back, and earthquake anything that doesn't fly. It also nulls Sturdy, which can make a pretty handy KO on mons like Golem, Regirock and Probopass.

You can't forget about Braviary and Magmortar.
![]() Braviary @ Choice Band EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe Jolly Nature (+Spe, -SpA) - Brave Bird - Frustration - U-turn - Superpower Braviary basically 2HKO's every Pokemon in NU; Alomomola, physically defensive Regirock, and Metang are about the only Pokemon that aren't 2HKO'd. Each of those have their own host of problems -- other than Regirock -- who rarely runs 252 Defense EV's; has no recovery other than Leftovers; and is pretty easy to weaken. Braviary doesn't even have to predict much -- it can just spam Brave Bird most of the time. Most of the time only one Pokemon on the opposing team has a resistance to Flying, and even those resistances may be 2HKO'd because Braviary is just so powerful. It also OHKO's Amoonguss and Vileplume and does a ton of damage to Tangela. ![]() Magmortar @ Choice Specs EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe Timid Nature (+Spe, -Atk) - Fire Blast - Thunderbolt - Focus Blast - Hidden Power Ice Choice Specs Fire Blast from Magmortar is just so powerful that Magmortar can just spam it a lot of the time. Standard Golem? 2HKO'd. Physically defensive Quagsire? 2HKO'd. There are very Pokemon that don't get 2HKO'd by Choice Specs Magmortar. These Pokemon are the only Pokemon that don't get 2HKO'd by Specs Magmortar in NU: Grumpig, Flareon, specially defensive Lampent, Dragonair. That's basically it. Choice Specs Magmortar is quite the nuke, and is a huge threat to stall teams. Also, the Ursaring set that Steamroll posted is also incredibly good at wallbreaking. Guts Ursaring's power is insane. The few times I fought against it with my stall team I had to resort to making it kill itself by making good switches and letting its burn kill it... and that doesn't work for very long. You'll usually have to sac something... or a few things. |

I think Lum Berry should be considered on SD Pinsir. Even without Life Orb it still 2HKO's Quagsire and Tangela and even has a chance of 2HKOing max/max Lickilicky, and with Stealth Rock up it can 2HKO Misdreavus:
252Atk +2 Mold Breaker Pinsir (Neutral) Earthquake vs 252HP/252Def Eviolite Misdreavus (+Def): 42% - 50% (139 - 164 HP). Guaranteed 3HKO. 2% chance to 2HKO. Oh also, if you run Adamant on Braviary you can 2HKO even Alomomola. Stealth Rock needs to be up but still: 252Atk Choice Band Sheer Force Braviary (+Atk) Brave Bird vs 252HP/252Def Leftovers Alomomola (+Def): 48% - 56% (258 - 304 HP). Guaranteed 3HKO. 12% chance to 2HKO with Leftovers. So strong. Plus thats only for max/max Alomomola, which is kind of pointless. The thing I don't particularly like about Specs Magmortar is it has to predict perfectly. It can't switch in too many times because of the Stealth Rock weakness and poor bulk. I've been running an Expert Belt set and its amazing at wearing down walls: Magmortar (F) @ Expert Belt Trait: Vital Spirit EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd Hasty Nature (+Spd, -Def) - Fire Blast - Hidden Power [Grass] - Thunderbolt - Earthquake It is almost always assumed to be scarfed as they switch in Golem/Quagsire into Fire Blast and avoid a 2HKO, before they get demolished by HP Grass. Earthquake is there to hit Flareon / Rapidash, who love getting those Flash Fire boosts. T-Bolt is good coverage for Charizard and Water types. It is incapable of touching Altaria, but I've seen that less and less recently. I would also like to mention Choice Specs Exeggutor: Exeggutor (M) @ Choice Specs Trait: Chlorophyll EVs: 56 HP / 252 SAtk / 200 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Leaf Storm - Giga Drain - Hidden Power [Fire] - Psychic With enough Speed to just outrun Samurott and Stallbreaker Misdreavus, this can be an absolute menace. Leaf Storm destroys even things that resist it, and Giga Drain is great for recovery. HP Fire hits Metang among other things, and Psychic is there for Grass types (Amoonguss, I'm looking at you). Yeah I really love this set, not much in NU can stop it apart from predicting around it. |

Nobody else has really even mentioned CB Rampardos besides one other person (not in this thread), so it definitely deserves a mention for just being able to rape face if it can get in safely.
Rampardos @ Choice Band 252 atk/252 spe/4 hp adamant(jolly) / mold breaker Head Smash Stone Edge/Rock Slide/Fire Punch Earthquake Superpower breaks Sturdy, breaks Levitate, 2hko's Mismagius with Earthquake on the switch, 1hko's Golem with Superpower, 1hko's Amoonguss and Vileplume with Head Smash. 2hko's Tangela with Stone Edge or Fire Punch after SR and 2hko's Quagsire with Superpower. Then again, it also 2hko's both tangela and quaggy with Head Smash, so that's why it's a primary option. Its options other than Head Smash simply give it a more reliable hit on certain foes. Adamant is better so that all the mentioned KO'es are guaranteed, but with Jolly it can outspeed stuff like Gorebyss and Relicanth before they boost and 1hko them! |

After testing Pinsir more I realized he isn't an incredible wallbreaker, but still a good one. A low BP stab move is really the selling point. Give him Megahorn and he would be amazing.
another decent wall-breaker is Sawk (M) @ Choice Band Trait: Sturdy EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Close Combat - Stone Edge - Earthquake - Filler Sawk really only needs two moves to bust through anything not named Tangela. Spam Close Combat and watch everything die. It's relatively simple. Misdreavus (F) @ Eviolite Trait: Levitate EVs: 12 HP / 252 SAtk / 244 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Substitute / Taunt - Nasty Plot - Shadow Ball - Hidden Power [Fighting] Missy is more of a Stallbreaker than a wall-breaker but functions in a similar way. Very few of the walls in the tier can touch her so she is free to boost to +6 and spam shadow ball / hp fighting. Sub or Taunt to dodge status obviously. She will struggle against Quagsire of course because of unaware but can use Alomomola / Lickilicky as setup fodder and dominate Quagless teams effortlessly

Try Reversal in that filler spot. If you can get it down to 1 HP then something will die.
Have a look at this power: 252Atk Choice Band Sawk (Neutral) Reversal vs 252HP/252Def Leftovers Musharna (+Def): 43% - 51% (190 - 224 HP). Guaranteed 3HKO. 252Atk Choice Band Sawk (Neutral) Reversal vs 252HP/252Def Eviolite Tangela (+Def): 62% - 73% (208 - 246 HP). Guaranteed 2HKO. |
