Arena: Move Research Centre I

Overview

The pokemon are battling inside a laboratory. The lab does not provide sufficient rocks, grass or water for moves requiring such external sources, nor does it allow weather to function unless the pokemon trying to cause weather has the appropriate rock equipped. What this lab does provide, however, are several machines and many research notes pertaining to energy manipulation. The machines are currently active and this allows the pokemon to change the way their moves are executed. However, the research is still in the early stages so this process will typically be somewhat exhausting for the pokemon, if not outright impossible in some cases.

When a pokemon chooses to change the way a move works, this is called a modification. A pokemon may use as many modifications as it wants in the round, but each move, command or combo may only have one modification applied to it at a time, with the exception of Major Transmit and Minor Transmit, which can both be applied to the same move, command or combo at the same time, and the Conjure modification, which can be applied in conjunction with another modification to a move, command or combo.

List of modifications

  • Effect: The move is usable despite lack of the required external source.
  • Can be applied to: Any move, command or combo that requires an external water source, external grass or external rocks.
  • Energy cost: 3
  • Effect: The move's priority is lowered by 2, or by 1 if it is already -6. The priority of the move's evasive component (such as on Dig) is lowered by the same amount. The priority of the move's charge-up component (such as on Sky Attack) is not lowered.
  • Can be applied to: Any move, command or combo whose priority is greater than -7, except Chill.
  • Energy cost: 5
  • Effect: The effect of the move lasts for 50% longer than normal (after applying all other effects that would increase the duration of the move's effect), rounded up to the nearest whole action or round.
  • Can be applied to: Aqua Ring, Disable, Embargo, Encore, Entrainment, Focus Energy, Gastro Acid, Gravity, Guard Split, Hail, Imprison, Ingrain, Leech Seed, Levitate command, Light Screen, Magic Room, Magnet Rise, Mist, Mud Sport, Power Split, Power Trick, Rain Dance, Reflect, Reflect Type, Role Play, Safeguard, Sandstorm, Simple Beam, Soak, Spider Web, Spite, Sunny Day, Taunt, Torment, Trace command, Trick Room, Water Sport, Wonder Room, Worry Seed and any combos involving these moves.
  • Energy cost: 5
  • Effect: The move's BAP or fixed damage is reduced by 50% before all other modifiers. Reflect and Light Screen work based on this modified BAP. The move only has a 1/32 chance of landing a critical hit, regardless of anything that might increase the move's critical hit chance. If the move normally has any other effect besides dealing damage (whether chance-based like Air Slash's flinch effect or inherent like Drain Punch's draining effect), inhibiting the move prevents such effects. If the move would normally not be boosted by Technician or Light Metal, inhibiting the move does not cause it to get boosted by these abilities.
  • Can be applied to: Any physical or special move, command or combo, except those that inflict the Sluggish status on non-Truant pokemon.
  • Energy cost: -4; the move's energy cost cannot be lowered to less than 1
  • Effect: The move is used as though the pokemon had a Size Class of 7 and a Weight Class of 12, including any energy cost adjustments based on Size Class and Weight Class. If the move has any Size Class or Weight Class restrictions, these restrictions are ignored. Magnifying Outrage, Petal Dance, Thrash or any combo involving those moves causes its effect and energy cost to apply to all forced consecutive uses of the move.
  • Can be applied to: Block, Bodyblock, Body Slam, Bounce, Brave Bird, Circle Throw, Dig, Dive, Double-Edge, Flare Blitz, Giga Impact, Head Charge, Head Smash, Heat Crash, Heavy Slam, Outrage, Petal Dance, Psychic, Seismic Toss, Sky Drop, Steamroller, Stomp, Storm Throw, Submission, Tackle, Take Down, Thrash, Vital Throw, Volt Tackle, Wild Charge, Wood Hammer and any combos involving these moves.
  • Energy cost: 3
  • Effect: The move may target any pokemon, including benched pokemon. A major transmitted move ignores Light Screen, Reflect, Safeguard and Substitute, dealing damage to the actual target if the target has a substitute up. If the target is a benched pokemon, any effects of the move other than direct damage do not decay, increment or have any effect on the target until it comes out. Major transmitting Pursuit causes its BAP to be increased to 8 if the target is either behind a substitute or benched.
  • Can be applied to: Any move, command or combo whose target is one (1) pokemon other than the user.
  • Energy cost: 7
  • Effect: The move is treated as a non-contact move.
  • Can be applied to: Any contact move, command or combo
  • Energy cost: 1
  • Effect: The move's priority is raised by 1. The priority of the move's evasive component (such as on Dig) or charge-up component (such as on Sky Attack) is raised by the same amount.
  • Can be applied to: Any move, command or combo.
  • Energy cost: 6 if applied to Chill; 5 otherwise
  • Effect: The move ignores the ability Soundproof.
  • Can be applied to: Bug Buzz, Chatter, Echoed Voice, GrassWhistle, Growl, Heal Bell, Hyper Voice, Metal Sound, Perish Song, Relic Song, Roar, Round, Screech, Sing, Snarl, Snore, Supersonic, Uproar and any combos involving these moves.
  • Energy cost: 10 if applied to Perish Song or a combo involving Perish Song; 1 otherwise
  • Effect: The move now affects up to three (3) adjacent opponents or up to three (3) adjacent allies depending on where it is aimed. A widened move's damage is subject to the multi-target BAP reduction. A widened move still cannot affect the user.
  • Can be applied to: Any move, command or combo whose target is one (1) pokemon other than the user.
  • Energy cost: 3

Objection vs. zarator (4v4 Singles) - IAR Refs - Round 1

zarator, I believe the term you are looking for is Evasive Damaging Move. I'll let it pass this time.

OBJECTION VS. GHETSIS ZARATOR

Round One - Battle Begin!

And so, here we are, in the Move Research Centre, & we are all set for this spicy matchup between Objection & zarator! Objection goes to release his first Pokemon, & it is Gantu the Gyarados! Objection makes sure he is not disadvantaged by handing a Cell Battery to his Pokemon. zarator responds by going into his Ghetsis persona, & sends out Bahamut the Cyclohm! With the obvious type advantage, zarator give Bahamut a Life Orb, & the match was on! First, let us see the initial stats for these Pokemon, shall we?

Okay, with that done, the battle was on! Gantu begins by letting off a loud shriek, which weakens Bahamut's Attack, before springing up, hurling his serpentine structure into the air! Bahamut takes advantage by channeling draconic energy & releasing it in the form of a dance, making him faster & physically stronger, as Gantu crashes down on Bahamut, as Bahamut takes damage, but what is this? It seems that Bahamut's body reacted, paralysing Gantu! Not only that, but the attack has also appeared to have paralysed Bahamut as well! Now, that is something we do not see every day, do we not?

Bahamut puts his Speed advantage to good use, letting rip a powerful burst of electricity which hits Gantu & makes Bahamut lose some life force, but what is this? It seems that Gantu was not hurt! That must bebecause of that battery he was holding absorbed the attack! Well, if anything is for certain, Objection will not be getting that battery back, but Gantu is physically stronger as a result now. Gantu then responds by swiping his tail at Bahamut, striking, tripping, & shocking Bahamut! Looks Like Bahamut will be on his way out soon...

Bahamut then tries to do something, but the electricity in his body pulsated, before locking the limbs in place! Looks like Bahamut was fully paralysed, but at least the paralysis will weaken in strength. In the meantime, Gantu once again jumps into the air whilst hauling his serpentine body upwards, before crashing into Bahamut, dealing more damage!

With the round end, both monster's paralysis levels weaken again, as suddenly, Bahamut is switched out, & Lendys the Haxorus is sent out in his place! Lendys is given the Dragon Fang, & looks ready to battle! But first, let us pull up Lendys' stats, shall we?

Okay, thanks to zarator, I need you all to specify the abilities & items of all your remaining Pokemon in your next post. Cheaparator. :P

OBJECTION VS. ZARATOR

Round Two - Cheap Shot!

Lendys begins the round by...Grabbing the Major Transmit? What is this? Lendys uses the modification to power up his Dragon Claw attack to the point where Lendys attacks...Objection's belt? What is this...Well, Objection was not hurt, but something certainly was, what got hurt, we will obviously have to wait & see! In the meantime, Gantu chomps on Lendys with a cold bite which hurt! Ouch!

Gantu then resorts to a stream of bubbles which strike Lendys for minor damage, as Lendys tries to retaliate, but fails.

Once again, Lendys grabs the Major Transmit modification & uses it to power Dragon Claw to strike Objection's belt once more, as Gantu bites down on Lendys once more, striking & freezing Lendys!

Well, zarator has made a cheap shot or two, striking the bench, but Gantu appears to have stopped that from happening for a while! What will happen next round? Let us wait & see!

OBJECTION VS. ZARATOR

Round Three - Dragon Claw!

Lendys begins the round frozen in his icy prison, as Gantu takes advantage of the situation, by glowing gold, before suddenly learning one of Lendys' past moves!

Whilst Lendys continues to remain sitting pretty in his icy prison, Gantu goes to use...Dragon Claw? Wait, Gyarados do not naturally learn Dragon Claw, right? Unless...Yeah, Mimic. Anyways, Gantu envelops himself in draconic energy, before slashing Lendys with his tail, piercing the icy prison & dealing damage!

After that, the icy prison encapsulating Lendys thawed out, & Lendys went on the offensive, slashing Gantu with draconic energy-enveloped claws, & dealing damage! Finally, Gantu once more, slashes Landys with his tail enveloped in draconic energy, forcing Lendys to slump, battered & bruised, but not out!

Round done, & Gantu has dealt significant damage to Lendys. But on the flip side, Gantu took damage for the first time this round, & that Cell Battery charge looks like it is about to wear off! What will happen next round? We will see soon enough.

OBJECTION VS. ZARATOR

Round Four - Major Transmit Abuse!

Lendys begins by utilising the Major Transmit once more to attack Objection's belt, but this time, striking it with meteors! I wonder if this is actually doing anything at all...In the meantime, Gantu chomps down on Lendys with a cold bite, dealing damage! At this point, the Cell Battery's effect wears off & is useless, so it is discarded.

Lendys then uses the Major Transmit, seemingly pointlessly striking Objection's belt with another slash, before Gamtu steals the Major Transmit, using it to mock zarator's belt! What the heck are these Pokemon doing?

Finally, Lendys stops using the Major Transmit, & starts going on a rampage, rushing & slamming into Gantu in a high impact collision, as Gantu bites into Lendys with cold fangs once more, & that was all it took to take out Lendys!

So, Objection is 4-3 up, but with the Major Transmit spam, god knows what the real score is! What will zarator send in next, how will he attack, & how will Objection respond? We will find out soon enough.

Cyric begins by going ahead & twisting the dimensions of the Move Research Centre, creating a bizarre dimension where speed was reversed! Cyric did beat Ursula to the punch though, who tries to twist the dimensions of the Move Research Centre, only to twist them back to normal! What a waste of an action! Cyric then uses the power of the Quicken Device, to make his Taunt attack faster, insulting Ursula before she could use the Quicken device! In her rage, Ursula does nothing, not happy she got beaten to the punch...Again...Nevertheless, The attacking begins Action Three with Cyric firing a ball of shadow at Ursula, damaging her badly! Ursula responds with an eye piercing attack, shocking Cyric with horror, & dealing damage, albeit not much.

It seems like zarator has a big advantage now. Will he be able to capitalise? Or will Objection find a way to fight back? We will find out next round...probably...

Cyric begins by firing a bright red beam of energy at Ursula, striking her & dealing damage, as Ursula grabs the Major Transmit Modification, & uses it to fire a cold beam of ice at zarator's belt...Wonder who got hurt...In the meantime, Cyric continues to inflict pain on Ursula, frying her with a bolt of lightning, while Ursula fights back, using the Conjure modification to create a powerful tidal wave, which batters Cyric for some damage! Cyric responds in anger with another ball of shadow, which he flings at Ursula, dealing more damage. Ursula is simply not interested, however, & uses the Major Transmit modification to fire another coldbeam of ice at zarator's belt.

Round over, and Cyric appears to be the dominant Pokemon on the field at the moment, as Ursula has taken significant damage from Cyric's assaults. Maybe Ursula has actually done something through the Major Transmit abuse? We do not know, as we wait for the next round to happen...
