The Gold version probably had it's internal battery run dry... it's completely useless now, sorry there's nothing you can do about it.

As for the Ruby, one of two things have happened. 1, this bug that screws with berry growth has taken hold and you just need to link up with a copy of FR or LG to fix it. The second though is that ITS internal battery has also run dry, in which case there's also nothing you can do about it. The batteries, as far as I know, cannot be replaced. Maybe they can and I'm wrong, but I've never heard of anything before. There's a reason gen II and III games are usually played on emulators these days...

1). Welcome to Smogon, MichaelXD.
2). I believe that this may want to be asked where it belongs in the Simple Question, Simple Answer Thread

For what it's worth though, I believe that your battery has died, so time based things are disabled and the lack of saving with soon follow.

Actually, the internal battery can be replaced, at least for 2nd gen games (probably 3rd gen games too). I had my Silver battery replaced a few years ago after it ran dry and it worked just like new.

I was in a Gametraders once, and they advertised being able to replace batteries for GBA games (if i remember correctly). So i would believe that Ruby should be salvageable.

I did this with my Gold version and now it actually holds save (it couldn't even hold them overnight before). You basically melt a pen tip and stick it into the safety screw socket before it dries, unscrew it, open the cart, pry out the battery, put a new one in, tape it up, close the cart, put the screw back in place. bam.

I even got off my ass for an hour, taking my dog on a walk up to WalGreens where they had like 20 of these batteries in stock. It's really easy. I don't know about the ADV games though, you may want to search on youtube for it further.

Actually, the berry issue is a known glitch in Ruby and Sapphire. It's fixable if you have access to Emerald, Firered, or Leafgreen: http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Berry_glitch

I've heard you can recharge the gsc battery if you leave the game on overnight, but its only used for the gba sp.
