Hey everyone! I'm pretty new here, so I thought I'd post my Pokemon team. This is my first competitive team, and my friend got me into NU, so that's what I play. Anyway, let's get started.
Previous Team
...
Current Team: Sexy, the Garbodor ![]() Item: Leftovers Ability: stench Nature: Impish EVs: 252HP/252Def/4SpD -Spikes -Toxic Spikes -Gunk Shot -Rock Blast Sexy is normally my starter. He gets out first to quickly set up as many layers of Spikes and Toxic Spikes as he can muster, and he can almost always set up 2 layers of Toxic Spikes, which is a very big help against every team. He's got the bulk to take a lot of hits while setting things up, and his Gunk Shot has been useful in a pinch. The fact that he's only weak to Psychic and Ground really helps him stay alive to set his traps. He is also my toxic spikes absorber. Sexy usually plays the role of somewhat of a throwaway pokemon once he gets his traps out, but he usually will live to return later in the battle. The Fonz, the Regirock ![]() Item: Leftovers Ability: Clear Body Nature: Careful EVs: 252HP/ 4Def/ 252SpD - Drain Punch - Stealth Rock - Earthquake - Rock Slide/Stone Edge The Fonz acts as a sort of tank/defender. In the case of an opponent with a Rapid Spin user, he acts as lead. Most opponents' leads are very fast and aggressive, so The Fonz can just soak up the damage to prevent a quick loss of one of my more aggressive Pokemon. His Stealth Rock is useful against flying threats, and sets up yet another trap for me. I gave The Fonz Drain punch so he could have a decent move against the dangerous normal types in the meta as well as opposing Regirocks. He also has Earthquake as another generally heavy attack. Normally, Thunder Wave would be a potential choice over Earthquake, but as Pokemon can only have one status condition at once and they are usually poisoned upon entering from Toxic Spikes, Thunder Wave is generally useless. Don Quixote, the Exeggutor ![]() Item: Sitrus Berry Ability: Harvest Nature: Bold EVs: 248HP/172Def/88Spe - Substitute - Leech Seed - Psychic - Giga Drain Don Quixote is very hard to kill. Between the Sitrus Berry/Harvest Combo and constant Substituting/Leech Seeding, he can basically live forever. His job is to take hits and stall. He goes on the offensive whenever he can, usually when he has Leech Seed set up and a strong Substitute set up. He gains me time to think for the most part. His leech seed can even be used a a pseudo healer if I switch in another Pokemon. Giga Drain is the obvious STAB move, and gains him life at the same time. He's a useful wall that can pack a punch too. Doorknob, the Absol ![]() Item: Life Orb Ability: Super Luck Nature: Adamant EVs: 252Atk/4SpD/252Spe - Sucker Punch - Pursuit - Superpower - Nightslash Doorknob is my wall breaker. He can get in quickly, as his speed is quite high. He outspeeds many of the other wall breakers in NU. I often find myself using Superpower for a OHKO and switching out, so he's not really a sweeper. He packs quite a punch with a combination of a boosted attack, powerful moves, and Life Orb. The recoil is generally worth taking for the added benefit of the Life Orb. He is a potential lead, but only if my opponent's lead would be weak to him and I can guarantee Doorknob is faster. He excels at breaking walls and can sweep without much difficulty once he gets going. Lando, the Rotom-S Item: Choice Scarf Ability: Levitate Nature: Timid EVs: 4Def/252SpA /252Spe -Thunderbolt -Air Slash -Volt Switch -Trick Lando provides protection against Samurott, who poses a large threat to my team. His speed and SpA prowess make him a force to be reckoned with. He is an excellent wall breaker and can prevent setup Pokemon from doing their thing with his Choice Scarf/Trick combo. Thunderbolt and Air Slash provide powerful attacks, while Volt Switch can save Lando in a pinch. He is a very offensive wall breaker, the likes of which I'm glad to have on my team. Gunther, the Golurk Item: Choice Band Ability: Iron Fist Nature: Adamant EVs: 168HP/252Atk/88Spe -Earthquake -Shadow Punch -Drain Punch -Ice Punch Gunther is the ever-necessary spin blocker on this team. With Toxic Spikes and often normal Spikes set up, I need something that can keep the spikes there. That's where Gunther comes in. He also provides protection against Armaldo, who normally ravages the majority of my team. His variety of very powerful moves allows him to have a heyday on many different types of Pokemon. He also works as a wall breaker, knocking down most opposing walls with ease. I decided to put more EVs into HP and fewer into Speed, simply because he needs to live longer, and can still outrun a few things. Thus concludes my team, and many thanks to ChaoticaMortis, Nyanswag, and MMF for the help! I would still appreciate other points of view and opinions, and any advice, not only in Pokemon/moves/stats, but also in strategy. I'm very new to this and need all the help I can get. Thanks! Hi there! Welcome to Smogon! Always glad to see new players in the NU environment, especially those who can humble themselves by putting up their own teams to be rated. Alright, first things first: You need to expand on your descriptions quite a bit. While I've gotten a slight idea as to what each member of your team is supposed to be doing, it's a little difficult for me to offer much help when I don't know the full potential that each of your Pokemon bring to the table. Also, your Regirock needs attacks. Note that your RMT might also become locked by a moderator if you choose not to expand.
I'd like to start the rate by pointing out a few Pokemon that can capitalize on a few common weaknesses on your team. Samurott in particular would be able to really cause you problems, as both of its common sets are able to outpace and beat many members of your team one-on-one. A huge threat that I'm noticing is also Armaldo, who also wouldn't mind going up against Absol, Exeggutor, Drifblim, or even Altaria. I'm just going to give you ways to stop those two for now. To fix your Samurott problem, there are actually quite a few things you could do. My suggestion would be to swap out your Altaria for Rotom-S (Rotom-Fan). ROTOM Item: Choice Scarf Ability: Levitate Nature: Timid EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe -Thunderbolt -Air Slash -Volt Switch -Trick Alright, with Rotom-S you know have access to one of the fastest sets in the tier. Not only will this allow you to beat Samurott without suffering heavy casualties, but it will also allow you to take on other powerful Pokemon like Gorebyss without breaking a sweat. Trick allows you to cripple walls or trap a Pokemon in a set-up move, and Volt Switch can help you escape from a situation in which you might have mis-predicted a switch. Moving on, to help against your Armaldo problem I suggest replacing Drifblim with Golurk. GOLURK Item: Choice Band Ability: Iron Fist Nature: Adamant EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe -Earthquake -Shadow Punch -Drain Punch -Ice Punch By switching Drifblim to Golurk you both retain the ability to spin block and reduce your weakness to Stealth Rock. Armaldo also can't do ANYTHING to Golurk, who just laughs at him all day. This is a pretty self-explanatory set: You come in on something that can't hurt you (like Armaldo), pick whatever move you think fits the situation best, and watch things die. Golurk is one of the most powerful Pokemon in the tier right now and this set plows through almost anything. This ridiculous amount of power also provides you with another wall-breaking Pokemon (and if I might add, one that is more reliable than Absol). So now that that's over, I'd like to thank you for giving this a read, encourage you to keep playing, and tell you to have fun battling! (also, if you do switch to Golurk, you might want to swap out Absol for Skuntank, who performs a similar role to Absol while being bulkier and able to absorb Toxic Spikes) EDIT: Lol how the fuck did I forget Garbodor absorbed T-Spikes. He already has a Toxic Spike absorber but I agree with your other ideas Chaotica.
First off, change your Absol to an Lum Berry Swords Dance set with Psycho Cut instead off Night Slash. @ Lum BerryTrait: Super Luck EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 HP Jolly Nature (+Spe, -SAtk) - Superpower - Sucker Punch - Psycho Cut - Swords Dance This set will give you a huge advantage vs Amoonguss as you can just SD in its face and OHKO with Psycho Cut, also your Superpower wont give you minus in attack before using it 3 times after SD. Sucker Punch its obvious as you can dent huge damage to everything that doesnt resist it. |

Hey there! Welcome to Smogon and the NU community! I saw a few things that I think need to be fixed so lets get into it shall we?
Firstly your Regirock has no moves and an inefficient EV spread as maxing both Special Defense and Defense is generally worse than maxing your HP and then putting the rest of the EVs into one defensive stat. I think you should use 248 HP / 252 Def / 10 SpDef with a moveset of Stealth Rock / Thunder Wave / Drain Punch / Rock Slide . Stealth Rock gives you a mini check to things like Swellow and Braviary while Thunder Wave is great in this offensive meta as many things hate being paralyzed such as Cinccino. Drain Punch is a good option to regain health as Regirock with generally take a lot of residual damage over the course of the match and Rock Slide is its STAB move and hits a lot of things neutrally. Next Altaria really isn't doing anything for you at all. It seems like its trying to do too many things at once which decreases its effectiveness. Chaotica is spot on with his suggestion of Rotom-S which does make Samurott easier to handle and also checks +2 Gorebyss which currently runs through your team like butter. And Rotom-S is an all around solid revenge killer and is pretty bulky as well. Golurk is also a pretty good suggestion as well although I don't think you need Max Speed as Golurk has some decent bulk that should be taken advantage of. I think you should use 168 HP / 252 Atk / 88 Spe. This lets Golurk outspeed 4 Spe Alomomola and 2hko it with hazards up and also gives Golurk some good bulk. The next thing is pretty small but I recommend using Giga Drain over HP Ice on Exeggutor as HP Ice only really hits Altaria as Psychic hits everything else harder and Giga Drain gives you another STAB move and another way to recover HP. And lastly CB Absol is pretty much outclassed by LO 4Atks Absol right now. You can keep the same set just with a Life Orb over Choice Band. Thats all I can think of at the moment but I hope I helped and good luck! Here's the sets:

Okay, I've taken most of the advice, deciding between conflicting opinions based on my own personal opinion. I really appreciate all the help, and I'll post the updated list ASAP.

Welcome to Smogon! You already had some of our better players give you advice, and you have changed your team accordingly. I saw your original team, and while it was interesting, it wasn't efficient with its EV spread and movesets (the standard sets tend to be standard for a reason after all). Now that you've adjusted your team, I'll give you some more input.
First, is that Hidden Power Grass I see on Regirock, or was that a typo/accident? If it is meant to be there, remove it! Not only does Regirock have a base 50 SpAtk, it is uninvested meaning it won't even 2HKO a Luvdisc (I'm not even kidding!). I'm assuming that you meant either Earthquake or Thunder Wave of course! ;) Ice attacks is the Achilles Heel of your team, since you don't resist it at all. That makes specially offensive Water-types a huge threat, with Gorebyss, Samurott, and Rain sweepers being at the front of the line. While Rain teams are rare still, people do use certain sweepers on their own, and Gorebyss is a threat no matter what. Special Samurott is also becoming more common nowadays since physical variants have so much trouble with Regenerator cores. The best I can advise you without drastically changing your team lineup anymore than it already has is to keep Rotom-S alive and give Regirock a Specially Defensive EV spread. Odd as it may seem, Regirock doesn't need max Def since the physical threats that it can come in on can't scratch it anyways, and the ones that can will still break through it (like Banded Sawk and Golurk). By investing in its Special Defense, Regirock can usually survive any super effective special or physical hit and either set up, status, or attack. Here's the set: Regirock @ Leftovers Ability: Clear Body Nature: Careful EVs: 252HP/ 4Def/ 252SpD - Drain Punch - Stealth Rock - Earthquake - Rock Slide/Stone Edge Hope I helped! :) |

Thanks a lot for your help, WhiteDMist! And yeah...it was a...typo haha. I'll replace that with Earthquake right away. I also did notice very quickly my weakness to Ice type attacks. I'll change Regirock to the set you suggested, but he's still very weak to Water attacks. If you had any major changes to suggest, I wouldn't be against hearing them as well. But thanks for the help you've given!
