What's the deal with soul dew?

Lati@s is an old know folk of ours. In 3rd generation it was definitely Ubers material, it was fast and hit hard enough to kill everything that wasn't pink or fat. But GameFreak wasn't happy enough with this and, in the same gen, the eon Pokes were able to hit even harder with the aid of an item which you could only get capturing Latias in Ruby or Latios in Sapphire in the Hoenn's Southern Island.

Oh look, it's a Soul Dew!


Yeah, that's right Timmy! But what it does? Well, that is a simple question young grasshopper that haven't played 3rd gen, Soul Dew is like a free Calm Mind, so the SpAtk and SpDef of both jet dragons are at 1+. Well, old players must be like "So what? I don't need lessons in Pokemon history..." and I agree with them, but 5th gen finally gave us the chance to use Latis in OU and they are pretty succesful mons. Also, Soul Dew was released in BW2. This mean we can finally remember the good ol' times.

Now, let's go straight to the point:


Latios is a top OU Powerhouse best known as specs Draco Meteor. Latios is also play a little part in the defensive core of some teams (specially agaist Rotom-W) and is an important check to CB Terrakion and can revenge kill all non-boosted speed Dragons. But it isn't all flowers to Latios... Pursuittar got enough bulk to survive anything latios throw at (bar HP fighting, but this is really...really rare) and trap it with stabbed Pursuit or just kill it with Crunch. After Latios kill something with Draco, Scizor can also trap and kill it or just take huge chunks with Bullet Punch. Besides, with the new release of genetical enhanced and steroids boosted Scizor (aka Genesect) Latios can't run freely anymore.

With so many checks (a lot of scarfers fall in that category too) Latios would benefit greatly from the specs boost without getting locked in a single move. The defense boost would also allow the blue dragon to survive a hurricane from Tornadus-t.

Anyway, this is important because it should offer a good check to non-scarf Terrakion and Garchomp which are two huge threats in today metagame. But those two love to play with Ttar, Scizor and Sand.Co, making specs Latios life hard in doing what it should do. And with the addition of Genesect, Latios life gets even shorter.

So, with so many checks being top usage in OU, the power of specs without locking yourself would be good for the Dragon and wouldn't screw the metagame.

Latios Soul Dew (Timid, 252 SpAtk EV) Surf x Tyranitar (252HP, 252SpD+): 37,1 - 44,1% (3KO after Stealth Rock)
Latios Soul Dew (Timid, 252 SpAtk EV) Surf x Scizor (252Hp):
Latios Soul Dew (Timid, 252 SpAtk EV) -2 (after DM) HP fire x Scizor (252Hp): 79,1-94,2% (not OHKO even without EV in SpDef)
Latios Soul Dew (Timid, 252 SpAtk EV) Surf x Terrakion (0EV in HP or SpDef) in sand: 69,8-82,7% (not OHKO even with one layer of spikes)
Latios Soul Dew (Timid, 252 SpAtk EV) +1 Calm Mind Surf x Genesect (non Naive, 0EV in SpDef and 4 in HP): 85,2 - 100,4% (6% chance of KO)
So even non-scarf Genesect has a great chance of revenging it.

This is the set everyone fears, but it never has total coverage. Without HP, Ferrothorn blocks it, without Surf or HP fighting, ttar blocks it, without psyshock, the fatties are annoying. With subs, it can't recover HP, without subs it is easily revenge killed. And if you really are afraid of subs you can always run scarf Icicle Spear Mamoswine.

How about a Soul Dew retest in OU?

Anyway, if it end up being broken we wouldn't lose anything and the suspects ladder is there for it...

No, we are bit testing something like this. It is going to be overpowered and not once suggested to be brought down. Iirc it was even tested in Gen 4, and still deemed broken. It is not worth a retest.
