I have been playing a lot of Dota recently, and the draft mode from that game adds a very interesting and dynamic aspect to the strategy, and thought, why can't that same form of drafting apply to Pokemon?
- Rules are the same as standard metagames - Excadrill and Blaziken are moved back to OU (tiers would be adjusted since hard to counter but not unbalanced pokemon can be banned strategically now) - Before the fight begins, you get to ban + draft your team - You cannot choose a pokemon that either player has already picked or banned the ban/pick phase would go like this (bold = player 1, italic = player 2) ban ban ban ban pick pick pick pick pick pick ban ban ban ban pick pick pick pick pick pick After this you get to choose your starter (secretly, neither player can see the other player's starter), and battle proceeds as normal. Thoughts? |

It's only after we've lost everything that we're free to do anything.

I've hosted tournaments similar to this, but without the banning step, and ending with each player having picked 9 Pokemon by the end (with the picking style being ABBAABBAABBAABBAAB). This wouldn't be very efficient on the ladder, but it is an interesting variation of that theme as a tourney idea.
