Default Crustle [WIP] [QC 0/3]

The Crab v2

C&C needs work, kind of unsure as to what to put there

[Overview]
  • Double hazards
  • Sturdy ability works as a focus sash
  • very specific niche as a hazard setter upper
  • Massive rock-looking shell
  • Good support movepool
  • Outclassed by Omastar and Gorebyss as a SS user

[SET]
name: Custap Lead
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Spikes
move 3: Rock Blast
move 4: X-Scissor / Toxic
item: Custap Berry
ability: Sturdy
nature: Hasty
evs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe
ivs: 0 HP / 0 Def / 0 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]
  • Stealth Rock is the best move in the game
  • Double hazards in the form of Spikes + Stealth Rock really rack up nice on the opponent's team
  • Rock Blast is Crustle's STAB and it can break Substitute leads
  • X-Scissor is Crustle's strongest move and it deals a lot of damage to Azelf and Mew
  • Toxic cripples anything non Steel and might be helpful as a last resort move
  • Custap Berry almost always ensures Crustle to get 2 layers on hazards on the field due to Sturdy

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
  • Hasty cuz fast as possible, outpaces Defensive Togekiss, Milotic, 0 Spe Gligar and Suicune, and other pokemon in the 75-85 base speed range that don't invest in speed, and to lower Crustle's good Defense stat to increase the odds of activating the berry
  • HP, Def and SpD as low as possible to ensure Crustle reaches below 25% to activate the berry
  • Bulldoze is a good answer against Speed boosting mons like Kingdra without Sub and Scrafty
  • Counter pairs up well with Sturdy and takes down physical threats in one blow -> layer afterwards
  • Spinblocker is a must. Cofagrigus and Sableye are nice options
  • Crustle is very useful on offensive teams due to the hard pressure it applies on the opponent compelling him to switch out often, taking lots of damage in the process
  • Darmanitan and Sharpedo are excellent partners for Crustle, as they love entry hazards on the field to get OHKOes left and right

[Other Options]
  • Shell Smash
  • Stone Edge over Rock Blast
  • Knock Off
  • X-Scissor

[Checks and Counters]
  • Taunt but it actually beats the three most common users of it (Froslass, Crobat, and Azelf).
  • Blastoise and Hitmontop can get an easy Rapid Spin off and be almost unharmed if not running Toxic.

you dont' want to lower crustle's def/hp like that. something that would normally 3hko you and bring you down to custap range can now 2hko you. running 0spdef ivs is fine because crustle isn't taking any special hits anytime soon, but you're practically crippling its usefulness with the current spread.

I'm not saying that running 0/0/0 is bad, but there are situations when not crippling its defenses like that can net you an extra layer

It's a good point, but you might end up failing to reach custap and therefore you would fail to get that extra layer, so it would go down the same way
