Big Announcment! Pokemon X and Y Worldwide October!

So where's this X-shaped Pokemon? Because the 2 legends are distinctly Y-shaped.

Awesome. Although it still looks like they're retaining the quad directional movement. I was hoping for something more like Ocarina of Time, but this is the next best thing. I don't even care about what Pokemon will be available during the main game because these graphics are incredible.

@ Katakiri: The elk-like legend would look like an X with its legs spread.

If you look in the video when the starters are battling, they each use a move of their type(water uses ice beam, close enough) and another move. The fire one is clearly Psychic, Grass looks like a Dark move, and Water looks like Fighting.

It is, pretty much. October 2013 for "most regions" in the world, which I guess would include at the very least Japan, North America, and Europe based on the beginning of the Direct. Although I notice that they didn't mention Australia at all in the Direct. Or South Korea.

But yeah, the attacks might be suggesting a second type.
Interestingly, if it's as we theorize (Grass/Dark, Fire/Psychic, Water/Fighting) it would give a secondary type triad that runs counter to the primary one. As a result, each of the starters would have a STAB move that can beat any of the others.

They confirmed it'll be as close to a worldwide release as possible (since North America doesn't release games on Fridays for the most part), specifically calling out NA, Europe and Australia.

The background does look like Aerial Ace, but there is some dark purple going on during the slashes too, who knows.

Looking again it does look more like water gun yeah. And the secondary type triad would be pretty awesome, people have been calling out for dark/psychic/fighting starters for a long time, I guess this would be close enough?

I noticed that Japanese release dates have usually been in September, whereas now it is October. Perhaps they delayed the Japanese launch a month in order to make it worldwide.

It's official, they've run out of colours. I'm still finding it hard to believe that this is basically everything the fans wanted and it's coming only 1.5 years after Gen V.

Also, I wonder what the rainbow symbols mean that they used to replace some of the parts of the katakana in the logo?

I've seen two theories on gamefaqs: Genetics and Dimensions. Personally, I support Genetics because

A. Pokemon Y has "Veins" and seems blood based

B. Pokemon X has a "heredity tree" kind of implications in its antlers

C. Dna was a big part of Kyurem's story. It only makes sense for the idea to be expanded upon

At least those are my thoughts

This isn't even a case of running out of colors lol. They used four in the first gen and that was it; they only returned to them because of the yin/yang concept ever-present in BW.

I mean, they didn't even finished the colors of the rainbow, how could they have run out of colors lol

While I'm aware of the other pair, I don't know if Game Freak would want to use those for another double sequel. Which would go with X and which with Y?

It could go X --> W and Y --> Z, for their positions in the alphabet.



But really, Z as a third game seems more likely. The fact that Zygote starts with a Z only helps in the English localisations.
