That's where humility comes into play. ;)

Anyway, this is getting off-topic. Any more-so and we'll be debating the core of the human condition before long. xD

Let's see, what's next on the agenda...

►Starter debate/evo speculation
►Xerneas/Yveltal lore
►Sylveon's typing drivel
►New evo/prevo wishlists
►Critical hits/butt hurt banter

►Something productive!

Well, we all know that's never gonna happen.

Got anything fresh to bring to the discussion, boys?
Discussion of the pokemon from previous gens who have appeared in both the original trailer and the sylvan trailer and, if they do end up in the game, what kind of areas they could reside in/show that might end up in game and what types of pokemon have not been shown yet and what these guys might signify?

If they would simply buff Lucky Chant to last longer, people wouldn't have to worry about crits anymore. I don't think they are going to pay attention to buffing old moves that no one uses anyway, so I wouldn't get my hopes up on permanent-till-you-switch-or-Baton-Pass Lucky Chant.

What type of Eeveelution would they pair with Sylveon if it turns out to be Flying? They have never released only a single one, so there's no precedent for there being only one. Same question for if it is Normal type applies also, and for that matter any other type it may be.

I'd like some backstory on Pokerus since this gen is based (at least in part) on genes. I'd like to know exactly what goes on with Pokerus that makes it beneficial, but maybe they'll just keep it as something magical that just happens. Maybe we'll get a professor that studies Pokemon genomics? Ideally, he'll be able to tell your Pokemon's IVs and all that jazz. Having a professor that works with this kind of stuff may actually teach kids stuff they'll use later on, which is always good, compared to the drivel that the other professors study. I mean, what do they even study?? There's like no ingame explanation for this, and if there is, you don't learn anything from it, and their areas of study aren't memorable, besides Rowan and his 90% of Pokemon evolve thing.

You guys know the shiny charm and the egg charm you get post game that helps you find shinies and hatch eggs, or whatever? I think it'd be wonderful to give the first pokemon in your party a disease charm that makes them more likely to contract PokeRus. Granted, PokeRus is more beneficial to training than finding shinies derping around more often in the wild, so it should be harder to obtain. Like with breeding perfect Pokemon, the lazy don't deserve the benefits.

Or, PokeRus is revealed to be a microscopic single-cell Pokemon with a defined shape and everything. That's a bit further of a stretch, as having the ability to own a germ could spread the virus to the other team members at the cost of a slot in your party. It could come with a crazy speed stat (since airborne/contact viruses can spread rapidly) and terrible everything else.

If it had to come in a pair, I think Normal with Ghost would be fitting, and Ground if Flying.

I would want the way the Pokedex works to be completely reworked to be more like how it works in the anime. The Pokedex starts off completely empty, and gets updated as you play:

For Pokedex entries, something like this: When the trainer meets a new Pokemon in a battle, the Pokedex pops up, gives the name of Pokemon and Entry #1. Upon capture of said Pokemon, Entry #2 is unlocked, height and weight. Entry #3, #4 and so forth are unlocked after using or facing said Pokemon a certain number of times. Thus, for the Pokedex entry of a Pokemon to be fully unlocked, you have to have captured it and meet/use it often enough.

For location/habitat, I know how useful it is to have all data to be available for you so that you can catch them all, but there's no challenge to it. It makes no sense to me how you meeting a Ratatta on Route 1 would suddenly allow your Pokedex to know that there are also Ratatta in Routes 3, 5 and 17. Or you facing the first Gym leader with a Scyther would let your Pokedex know that there are Scyther in the Victory Road or Route 27. I'd prefer it if the habitat/location list gets filled out as you meet wild Pokemon, and only on that spot where you actually met them. Which means that, if you meet a trainer with Mareep in Route 2, although Pokedex entry is unlocked, habitat data isn't. If you meet Mareep in the wild in Route 5, then it would add Mareep's data to Route 5 habitat/location list ONLY. That means it could have been be found in Route 4, you just were not able to. This, together with expanding Pokemon availability in multiple locations (I don't like how sometimes a certain Pokemon can only be found in a single location. It makes sense more for Murkrow to be found in Routes 11-18, rather than just Route 13 with a tiny patch of grass) makes the habitat/location list unique for every playthrough.

And while we're at it, add a movepool tab in the Pokedex. As your Pokemon, or the opponents/wild Pokemon uses a move, the data gets added to the movepool dex. It should prove useful for in-game players who don't use the internet to look up Pokemon learnsets for their ingame teams.

I just came on here to suggest this. I found myself during fifth gen, going on the Internet to google nearly all the wild pokemon I encountered. An in-battle pokedex like in the anime would be sweet

You're seeing patterns where there are none. Just because the last two times Eeveelutions were introduced they were in pairs, doesn't mean it'll necessarily be the same this time. Remember that the first batch was three. And only three instances is too little to form a pattern. I wouldn't be surpised if Sylveon is the only Eeveelution we get.

That would be kinda cool and realistic. I mean, it's obvious that the Pokedex updates itself based on what you encounter. If it just downloaded the data from the Internet or something, why wouldn't you have it download everything right from the start? So it's logical that the Pokédex wouldn't know that a Pokémon lives in a certain area if you never saw it there. Besides, I think I remember having a professor tell me that they wanted me to use the Pokédex to map out the locations of the different species of Pokémon. Still, I dunno if that would be worth the frustration of the Pokédex losing the function of telling you where to find that cool Pokémon you saw once and really want to get.

Obvious upprade to the Dex's functionality. Should really be done.

I agree, as even if they were to come in pairs, they would be announced in pairs, not one by one. Seeing as its been a trend for the past generations, and is likely to continue. :I

That too. Which is why I can say with some certainty that we won't get anything besides Sylveon.

Unless Game Freak is throwing a curveball at us. I wouldn't put it past them.

Usually in the pair of eeveelutions, 1 is at an advantage over the other(s).
Gen. 1: Vaporeon is weak to Jolteon. Flareon is weak to Vaporeon. Jolteon isn't weak to any of them.
Gen. 2: Espeon is weak to Umbreon.
Gen. 4: Leafeon is weak to Glaceon.
Gen. 6: Okay, this part is just speculation. I'm guessing Sylveon is Flying. So, Sylveon could have a Bug, Fighting, or Rock counterpart. Also, the mysterious eevee chart, has Jolteon across from Sylveon. So Sylveon coud be a single to balance out everything.

The fact that Jolteon exists ruins that theory. Let's assume that it's across Jolteon to indicate that Jolteon beats it. But Jolteon already beats Vaporeon, which was introduced in the same gen! Really, another theory that is ruined because the first batch of eeveelutions was a trio.

So many people turn into conspiracy theorists at times like this, taking the most irrelevant things and thinking that they must mean something.

The Eeveelutions are ordered top to bottom by chronological order of introduction. Myth busted.

Strongly disagreed.

Also, this is where having custom options for different game modes has forever improved gaming in every other big series apart from Pokemon which just hasn't seemed to modernize itself yet.

Options are the way to go. You want crits in story but not in MP? Set up a no-crit MP battle with options. You want crits in MP? Don't turn on the no-crit option.

Options are the future. Options are why other competitive games have thrived.

My instinct tells me that the ppl who wants crits out of the game are those who regularly get haxed by it. In short, whiners.

Honestly crits are part of the game and they're a part of what makes it attractive: the inherent risk that your Pokemon will get screwed no matter what. This risk applies for both you and your opponent, so it's fair in that sense (unless your opponent dicks out with Super Luck Honchkrow or something). Or alternatively, adapt strategies that don't get you fucked over heavily by crits i.e. setup sweepers

People suggest that dragon breath fire by breathing a flammable gas that inflames when it comes in contact with the air. The beam of flame is not supposed to come directly from its mouth because it would burn itself otherwise (Flash Fire notwithstanding).

If you look at the trailer again, you can see it says "Game footage not final". This may mean they will correct this problem by the time the game is released.

I believe this was touched upon but practically ignored straight afterwards...

...

I think most of us here who have seen the poster came to the conclusion that each Japanese character corresponds to an Eeveelution. The bow in the middle is supposedly meant to represent Sylveon. However, if you look towards the right of the title, you see two stars above the last character. I believe that's meant to be like the " in the third, blue character. But why would there be stars instead of " ? Maybe it's a hint that there'll be another Eeveelution or something?

Of course, there's no concrete evidence that it is a hint, but it's a possibility.

Good point. I mean Elm for example, he supposedly studies Pokemon breeding, yet he never gives you any decent information about it! They could have scripted info like "We've discovered that sometimes if a parent knows a move, the offspring will know that move even if they couldn't normally learn it." or "If the parent has great potential in a stat, there's a high chance its offspring will inherit that." But no, we just get "Hurr durr nobody knows where eggs come from."

Because it's a toy for a ten-year-old kid. Oak and so on were fibbing when they claimed it was serious research.

That's just covering their ass so they can't get done for false advertising if they change stuff.

On crits, without them you don't have a ready excuse when you lose! Besides, without them the complaints will just be moved to other random factors, like misses, secondary effects, or low/high damage rolls. Remove all of them, making everything entirely predictable, and the complaints will be about being given a poor team matchup.

Quickster, the stars have been stated as part of Japanese writing, to denote the kana representing a different sound.

I know what we can discuss. It's probably already been touched on but it always makes for fun speculation.

Previous gen pokemon who might evolve. Let's look at some of the possible suspects and speculate on how a boost of stats may effect them at a pure numbers level.

Assume everything just goes up by 10-20 in all stats. What do we get? I know some pokemon are freaks and get massive boosts on evolve, but the standard growth I think is about 10-20ish for primary stats.

Yes, but he also mentioned the " mark by the blue character, in which they didn't use the stars. Not that I believe this is a hint at anything (it would look weird in the middle of the logo, but looks ok by the end), but still.

TBH, I'm not even gonna bother buying the game. For me, looks like I'll just play competitively with showdown or PO and look at the anime/playthroughs if I'm actually interested in the story.
