Yet another thing I'd like to see: longer routes. I find it very unrealistic how some routes can be so short. After defeating the city's gym leader, you step out the city gates, hop on your bike, and look forward to the next challenge! But it wasn't even just ten seconds and you're already in the next city? Seriously some routes are too short, the cities might as well be sitting right beside each other. I don't know why they do this. Is it to save up on data space? Why can't they expand the map more?

We've had long routes before. We even had some in Gen 1 between Lavender and Fushia. We had the snow routes in DPPt that were pretty long. Route 119 in RSE was longer than the normal route too. The biggest routes BW/B2w2 had were the water routes beside Nuvema Town.

Pre-3DS, space is exactly the reason why.

This is why most rom hacks that add new areas have to almost always write over old areas. There is very very little space in GBA/DS games, and Nintendo/Gamefreak actually does a pretty good job using up most of what's available to them.

3DS games can have a much much larger file size so we could potentially see some improvements in this regard.

I have mixed feelings about long routes. Hoenn Route 119 was nice because it was very varied. The four routes between Lavender Town and Fuschia City are bearable as well because these trainers are really easy and there's an easier route to get to Fuschia City via Celadon City.

However, Hoenn's water routes were not, however, as there's nothing exciting about constant seas. The long routes in the Battle Zone in Generation IV were no fun, because you needed so many HMs and you couldn't Fly anywhere near it (unlike, say, Rock Tunnel in RBY).

Sorry, but IMO the best long route was 119, with the thunder's sound, rain, weather institute...So nostalgic!! :)

EDIT: Damn...I want to play R/S/E again with my old friends..:'(

How much larger? I can't seem to find actual values anywhere, but this sounds pretty awesome.

Also, what? Generation 5 was only on the DS. Generation 6 will only be on the 3DS.

In some ways I appreciate longer routes, but some, like Unova Route 6, just seem to go on forever unless you have like 10 repels. Still, it would be nice to see them put some actual work into them rather than just put some grass patches in random annoying spots.

Yeah, if every route was Lavender/Vermillion-Fuschia or Route 119 long it'd get very old very fast.

On cartridge size, the largest DS cartridges were 512 MB. BW2 use that size, but still only use about 300 MB of it. The map data, that says what features to put where, will only be a very small amount anyway, the models and textures will be much larger and they're repeated so it takes more to make a more varied route but not merely a longer one.

DS games max out at 512MB.

3DS carts are capable of 8GB of data, so roughly 16x larger.

Of course, you have to take in to account that higher resolutions and 3D models and more animations, etc...they're going to take up more space as well by default. But in the end, we're still making a massive improvement with the jump to 3DS.

Not to mention the 3DS is also capable of DLC content, so we could potentially see completely new areas added through the E-Shop as well eventually.

There's a lot of new potential here. It's pretty exciting.

Those filters are for searching only, though. I'd like it if the PC actually moved and organized Pokémon according to Pokédex Number, type, etc. like the Bag sorts items alphabetically, according to use, etc. when you press Start. That way I don't have to spend ten minutes nudging half of the Pokémon in my PC by one space whenever I catch something. Call it impatient OCD, if you will. :P

Yeah, and by that logic almost every pokemon will be sound type since it emits a noise... honestly, can we drop this farce already?

They look more like arteries to me. That just seems like a random biological reference, especially since the majority of the in-game playerbase probably doesn't know what those nucleotides are.

...you know the "Y Legendary" has had a name for around a month, right?

That's like calling Snivy "Tsutarja" or Jellicent "Burungeru" still.

And add some side-missions along the way too. I know it's unfair to compare the games to the anime but that's all Ash and co get up to. Maybe some stuff like more intractable Pokemon, find something injured, help it out and then it joins you (does Ash catch anything the old fashioned way). Just more things to do between gyms, rather than walk, would be nice

Hi i'm new to the forums but I've been playing Pokemon for a long while and i'd like to see the following or expect the following.

Since this is the 3ds: More visual based routes eg. Sky Arrow Bridge
As far as I know the 3ds has a sort of 'step counter' thus a pedometer based day care step counter. Spot pass functionality and 3d cut-scenes.

Other than that since generation 5 did not have a mass storage peripheral such as Pokemon box or my Pokemon ranch I expect a similar program will be released for X & Y possibly name Pokemon gene pool. Old genetic based Pokemon such as Mewtwo in the upcoming movie will receive a new signature move or hidden ability.

These other suggestions are just random ones such as the ability to fossilize Pokemon synthetically to serve as more space. More special poke eggs such as the Manaphy one.
Ability to 'split' Pokemon in a centrifuge such as Kyurem. More mirror Pokemon such as Kakuna and Metapod. Another suggestion is Pokemon W2/B2 to X/Y simplified requiring a connected Pokemon trainer account, wi-fi and 1 system similar to memory link. Possibly hidden natures will be added that require them to be 'brought out' eg. fainting under after paralysis/poison/sleep/confusion.

I hope though doubt walking Pokemon, mass game play through servers eg. 10 people on one map connected through WiFi, Pokemon buy able, Pokemon destroyable eg. darkrai in movie and Pokemon auction trades where players not only supply the Pokemon requested but also bid with poke currency. Also offers and deposits can be done simultaneously. As well a augmented reality battles.

Unfortunately, people still do this. This is the first time since GSC that I've been around for speculation periods of a new generation, so it bugs me to death every time I have to do a Google search every time I don't know what "Sazandora" or something is. People in this thread are still calling Sylveon Ninfia. Hell, I've seen people call Jigglypuff Purin before!

Seriously, people, you're not cool for calling Pokémon by their Japanese names.

Exactly what I was thinking. Think about not having to go to GameStop to get an event Pokémon...

I'd much rather not give the haters more fodder to hate Pokemon for supporting the idea of slave trading.

AR is still a work-in-progress. That needs more time to develop.

I'd love to have a Pokemon follow you again. There was some talk earlier of Pokemon mounts, which is kind of a bad idea. Yeah, Pokemon's a monster-oriented rpg, but you don't need a veritable chocobo.

Kids have short attention spans. Gamefreak don't want their target audience getting bored of the game because Route 1 takes 15 minutes to get through. Although I do agree that some routes could do with a little fleshing-out.

Also, what do you guys think of this split Trubbish evo I found? It'd be cool flavour-wise, but I can't imagine it doing well competitively. (inb4 "Trubbish sux, gen 1 was da best!!1!!)
