Smogon Shoddy Server Statistics - July 2008
I've been working very hard over the past few weeks to gather usage statistics for the Smogon Shoddy Server. Initially, I thought it would be simple. However, as I got more ambitious with the type of stats I wanted to collect, the collection program grew in complexity as well. Statistics were collected by parsing 168,958 individual battle logs. That's a LOT of logs... I've now got some stats that I think are very interesting. I've been working on this night and day over the past few days, trying to get this ready by the close of the server's first month of operation.
Now that I have the basic stat collection done, chaos and I can figure out how to put this up on the Smogon site in a nice format. For now, this will have to do. Also, now that I can get my head out of stat gathering code, I'll get a chance to look at some of the bugs people have been complaining about on the server. But, let's get on to the statistics... that's why you are here, right? The first list is basic usage rankings per ladder. I also included pokemon usage for all Unrated play. I don't know the statistical significance of Unrated play, but I had to segregate these battles from regular ladder play, so I figured I might as well capture the info. I didn't expect this, although teams were roaming with Claydol because Hitmonlee and Steelix rising in popularity. I was sure Steelix and Clefable will rule the charts.. but yeah, Steelix is that good. =\ Good work.

Wow this is amazing, thanks for all the effort put into this.
Deo-E 6th in usage now isn't a shock, but people saying he is overrated as an OU threat can now quiet down with that stat. Jirachi being 30 surprises me a little (that he is that low), but then again Metagross shares his same typing but gives much more offensive muscle to threaten with. The "utility" pokemon role also is fading a little bit with Bronzong being the best at it (at least favored one according to stats) |

Good job and thanks a lot for all your hard work. I'm glad to see that maybe by the next OU tier list update well be able to see 3 new faces. (Alakazam, Aerodactyl, and Crobat) as they're just about to hit the mark.
The UU tier list isn't all that surprising. The top 10 pokemon will be seen every match and 10-20 every other match. I'm also surprised about Claydol. It's interesting to see that Persian is the top most-used lead in UU. I guess Hypnosis is the best move for a starter then? Seeing how Gengar Bronzong and Persian are all popular leads because they carry it. Anyhow, these statistics will help us prove all the theorymon going on in the BL-UU thread. Thanks again.
