Big stories seem to be the huge burst of Snover, it rose more than 10% total use and almost tripled in lead usage in one month! Even with top players promoting it, that's impressive. Interesting diversity of items:

Hippopotas
Everyone always forgets about SS in LC.. It can work pretty well, and Hippo is solid.

I have to say that Hippopotas is probably the most underrated lead. While it does stick you with perma-sand, it also has great matchups against other leads, a healing move, decent attacks, and the ability to beat Sashed leads like Houndour with a little careful investment, something Phanpy can't do.

As for Cyndaquil and Wailmer, the big issue there is Houndour and Croagunk/Mantyke. When there are REALLY FUCKING SCARY things that can come in and eat your "only notable attack" for free (houndour specifically, as it can come in and pursuit), it becomes hard to use them.

I don't understand what you mean here. Hippopotas has less natural special bulk than Phanpy, and Phanpy doesn't need as much investment to never be OHKOed by Overheat, and neither of them lose to Houndour (with enough SpD investment) if they straight up attack, since Phanpy has Ice Shard. Phanpy can also actually EV itself to not even be 2HKOed by Houndour's Fire Blast, while Hippopotas can't.

Imo the only reason to use Hippopotas is for sand, otherwise you are using a shitty Phanpy without Ice Shard or Head Smash.

28 HP / 15 Atk / 15 Def / xx SAtk / 10 SDef / 10 Spe

Lead Hippopotas (212 HP / 100 Atk / 132 Def / 20 SDef Adamant):

26 HP / 16 Atk / 16 Def / xx SAtk / 11 SDef / 9 Spe

EVs not set in stone, but points in Attack can be swapped for points in either Defense or Special Defense if you need more bulk.

Either way, Hippopotas brings to the table equal defenses (more defense, less HP, evens out), Sandstorm (auto-sash-eating is go), 50% healing, Crunch (being able to hit Misdreavus and Gastly (and floon!) is pretty solid), and better Attack is enough to put Hippopotas on top. If you really need the Ice Shard utility for some eleventh hour priority, Phanpy still exists, and if you hate Sandstorm the same is true, but Hippopotas has a lot to bring to the table over Phanpy.

Seed Bomb is random filler, as goon doesn't have much else going for him.

I'll do some XS calcs once I get back from school.

Sadly, Bidoof doesn't get Waterfall like Bibarel so this set doesn't have much hope with steel-types, but if sleep clause isn't activated you can always Yawn them.

I don't know where you are getting Houndour beating Ice Shard Phanpy from. But:

(calcs assume Oran Berry)
Fire Blast: (51.35% - 64.86%)
Sucker Punch: (27.03% - 35.14%)

The only way Houndour is beating it is if it rolls absolute max damage both times. Not likely by any stretch of imagination.

Also, Phanpy can actually set up Stealth Rock on Sucker Punch. Houndour would be very silly to risk that.

Well first of all, the healing move doesn't make up for all the advantages Phanpy has. Second, Hippo isn't avoiding any 2HKOes from common leads any time soon. Out of the top 10 leads, it doesn't "completely" avoid 2HKOes from any Pokemon. However Diglett only has a 5% chance to 2HKO it with HP Ice, if it runs HP Ice, so I'll give you one. That said, Phanpy is able to beat Diglett easily, so that point is moot when comparing the two.

Phanpy's biggest stat advantage over Hippo is its Speed. This speed allows it to outpace Lead Machop and SubSeed Lead Snover (which it OHKOes with Head Smash).

It's other stat advantage is HP. That 1 HP allows it to survive silly things like Houndour Overheat, being 3HKOed by Voltorbs Hidden Power, etc.

As I have shown, the healing move means squat.

Crunch is good, but Head Smash is better. Head Smash, while being less accurate, hits ghosts for merely 10 base power less than Crunch. Crunch doesn't hit important Pokemon like Paras, Mantyke, or most importantly, Gligar (on the switch). The 80% accuracy and recoil are definitely worth the trade for not allowing your team to be fucked over by Mantyke or Paras.

Ice Shard is what seals the deal for me. Being able to be a Gligar check, while also having something to revenge kill Sub sweepers and the like is invaluable. The lack of priority on Hippopotas really turns me off.

Overall, I really think if you want the more versatile and effective lead Pokemon, use Phanpy. If you want to use Sandstorm for whatever reason, use Hippopotas.

Actually, it looks like you had ALL of the uses, lol. I just came back to LC, so mine must all be in December :P

An unboosted XS from Ziggy is more powerful than an unboosted XS from Dratini. Dratini hits 17 attack with Adamant. Zigzagoon hits 13 x 1.5 = 19.5 - Goon's XS will do ~15% more than Tini's will, unboosted.

Tini does have the better secondary moveset though (gets Tbolt for Mantyke, still gets Surf, gets a rediculous Draco Meteor, Fire Blast for Bronzor) and also has 20 more base stat points in SpA. He doesn't get anything to hit ghosts with though other than Draco Meteor.

...Yeah, maybe Tini does do it better. But Ziggy adds a coolness factor and gains a few KOs that Tini doesn't get with XS, mostly on uber-frail pokes. And then the fact that Tini does everything better after a DD.

All of those were assuming LO on Tini - he gets even less kos holding an Oran. The set I would use though would be a mixed priority that didn't need any setup - it could just come in and wreak havoc with decently powered XS and good secondary options. I'll test a Tini in the spot and see if I like it better.

Awesome to see a good number of battles, I really need to get back into battling. Hopefully over the holidays I will get my mojo back. Misdreauvs' usage is really strong and it's quite clearly centralising the metagame (Stunky usage)

It would be interesting to see the metagame without Missy and Gligar and who if any one pokemon would become the new top dog, I wouldn't be surprised if fighters were to become more dominant in that scenario.

Really, the problem with Pichu is that, the great Volt Tackle you're talking about comes off of 14 Attack, max. It also has horrible stats everywhere that isn't its passable Speed. Due to this low stat the the prevelance of Ground-types like Gligar, it isn't considered very good.

A plus +6 XS OHKO's the entire metagame, bar Ghosts obviously, with NO EV's, AND - Attack nature. Even Aron and Onix are both OHKO'd;

0 EV's, Modest natured, +6 Extremespeed against Max/Max Impish Aron:

You forgot to set the level to 5. The actual figures are 12.5% - 16.67%% against Aron (20.83% - 25% with max+ Attack) and 22.73% - 27.27% against Onix (33.33% - 41.67% with max+ attack). Still not too bad considering you're against the most defensive Pokemon in LC who resist your attack. Seed Bomb will do 200% - 254.55% to max/max+ Onix and 58.33% - 75% to max/max+ Aron. Rock Smash OHKOes Aron, but only does 54.55% - 72.73% to Onix.
