As everyone knows, Pokemon Black and White came out like 2 weeks ago. This means I will probably never play generation 4 again unless it's for tournaments(like SPL). With all the new Pokemon and items, I doubt that hail is going to work, you never know though!
Anyway, with the Black and White release, with this team being my best one, and with a lot of people knowing this team now, so why not make a RMT? -----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hail Stall story
----------------------------------------------------------------------- Hail Stall #2 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- PartyStarter (Abomasnow) (M) @ Leftovers Ability: Snow Warning EVs: 252 HP/32 Spd/224 SDef Sassy nature (+SDef, -Spd) - Wood Hammer - Blizzard - Protect - Leech Seed --- You will see an Abomasnow in any hail team of course. I'm leading with it because I want to start hail ASAP, 6% damage every turn to the opposite Pokemon is really good, especially that Ice types aren't really common in OU. 32 Speed EVs are there to outspeed Swampert leads and OHKO them with Wood Hammer before they set up rocks, even though Swampert leads are very rare these days I'll keep the 32 Speed EVs, adding them to SDef isn't really going to help me anyway. Without Abomasnow this team will have a really hard time against stuff like CroCune, and the 1-x comebacks with Curse Snorlax or Curse Tyranitar. With Leech Seed Abomasnow is almost always at full health, Leech Seed also helps me to against the popular Abomasnow switch-ins like Scizor, Leech Seed + Protect + SR and Spikes make stuff like it to die before they do any damage to the team. Abomasnow doesn't match up well against most of the leads, so here's how I deal with the 10 top leads:
...
Sugarcult (Skarmory) (M) @ Leftovers Ability: Keen Eye EVs: 252 HP/24 Def/36 Spd/196 SDef Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk) - Whirlwind - Brave Bird - Spikes - Roost --- As I said before, I only made this team because my old team needed a Steel type, so I chose Skarmory. It's not there only because it's a Steel type, it is also one of the best Spikes user and Scizor switch-ins. This spread is used to make it bulky in both, defence and special defence. The 36 Speed EVs are there to let it outspeed CB Tyranitar and other Skarmory's. Spikes is really helpful for this team, it lets me kill stuff like Roar Heatran and Swords Dance Scizor, who can do some damage to this team, easier. That's it really. Skarmory might not do many stuff, but it is really helpful for this team. New Day (Nidoqueen) (F) @ Leftovers Ability: Poison Point EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/6 Spd Relaxed nature (+Def, -Spd) - Toxic Spikes - Stealth Rock - Fire Blast - Earthquake --- Nidoqueen, like any other member of this team, is really important. Without it, I lose to things like SD Roost Scizor. Stealth Rock to hurt anything that switches in(duh). Toxic Spikes helps me against stuff that I can't toxic with Blissey because they will weaken/kill it if I do, like Tyranitar, who is really a problem for this team team, especially DD and the mixed versions, who get screwed by Toxic Spikes. Fire Blast is obviously for Scizor and Forretress, who can set up on this team. This my counter to Lucario, and if Nidoqueen dies before Lucario it means I have to burn it with Spiritomb, which isn't really the best way to deal with Lucario. Nidoqueen is also my Trick switch-in, she doesn't really mind being choiced. Stacys mom (Blissey) (F) @ Leftovers Ability: Natural Cure EVs: 148 HP/252 Def/108 SDef Bold nature (+Def, -Atk) - Wish - Toxic - Protect - Seismic Toss --- Wish support, walling most of the special attackers, and Toxic. That is pretty much what Blissey does to this team. With Wish I can heal Abomasnow and Nidoqueen, Abomasnow doesn't really lose a lot of its health most of the time, but Nidoqueen is mostly at low health. Without Blissey, Zapdos can dominate this team. If I see a Zapdos I never take risks with Blissey that cause killing her, otherwise I have to burn it and stall it out with Spiritomb, who usually dies to other stuff. Toxic helps against anything that isn't a Steel or Poison type, obviously, with hail damage and poison it makes stuff die faster. Always (Spiritomb) (M) @ Leftovers Ability: Pressure EVs: 252 HP/30 Def/228 SDef Careful nature (+SDef, -SAtk) - Will-o-wisp - Pursuit - Rest - Sleep Talk --- Spiritomb is one of my favorite Pokemon, but that isn't really the reason I'm using it for. I'm using it mainly because it's a ghost/ who can block Rapid Spin, and because of Gengar, who I couldn't touch at all with the previous team. Starmie is already a good spinner, but with this thing Pursuiting ghosts like Rotom-A, it will be an even better spinner. Though, I rarely Pursuit Rotom-A's with this, but at some points it is really needed. Pursuit is also for the biggest threat to my old version of the team, Gengar, I literally didn't have anything for Gengar with the previous version. Will-o-wisp is to cripple things like Scizor, who sometimes switch in on Spiritomb for some reason, it also helps me against DD Tyranitar with Lum Berry(after Toxic Spikes activate it). Rest and Sleep Talk are there to heal it and remove status. Paralyzer (Starmie) @ Leftovers Ability: Natural Cure EVs: 252 HP/120 Def/136 Spd Bold nature (+Def, -Atk) - Surf - Thunderbolt - Rapid Spin - Recover --- My team needs a spinner, so I decided to use Starmie for multiple reasons, not to spin only. It also counters Gyarados, who can be a problem to this team without Starmie. I'm using Bold nature with max HP and a lot of Defence to take Physical attacks better. With this spread, Scarf Tyranitar can never OHKO me with Crunch/Pursuit on the switch, which has helped me in a lot of battles. Without Starmie, as I mentioned before, Gyarados can be a big problem to this team. I have to watch out for CB Gyarados who can Payback me on the switch though, but thankfully, it's rare. With Pursuit Spiritomb, Starmie spins much easier. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Closing words: I'm really going to miss using this team and hail teams in general in generation 5. I'm also going to miss generation 4, it is the first generation that I played Pokemon competitively in. Again, goodbye generation 4~ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Threat List: (taken from Kevin Garrett's RMT)

Yo, gen 4 isn't over yet son! WTF are you doing posting this team before the Tour ends!? Anyways, I've never understood how you were so damn successful w/ this team bro... I don't think I've ever lost to it. But man, watching you use it on ladder or in tournaments is seriously a beauty. You know how this team works like the back of your hand, and you always pull out wins in the most unlikely situations possible, so for that I really respect you and this team. You got everything checked here, so I would give you 5 stars if that system were still in tact. Instead, you're getting a Luvdisc. Congrats on your incredible success with a Hail team where nothing is even immune to hail except Abomasnow! Don't stop using this team though please, so I can keep owning it B)
Edit: Why don't you use Ice Shard on Abomasnow for things like Mixed Dragonite, which could fuck you up? I always thought you had that.

Good shit. Starmie really is the glue of this team, checking the threats that would otherwise decimate this team, things like Mixed Infernape, Life Orb Heatran. Though I still think Mixed Dragonite and mixed Flygon could be troublesome, I suggested Blizzard on Starmie on IRC, but like you said, all four of its current moves are important. I'd say try out Ice Shard on Abomasnow, or you could try Rest talk Rotom-F over Spiritomb to slightly alleviate the Mixed Dragons problem.
Other than that I don't see any weaknesses, as this is an excellent build.

The definitive Hail team of the 4th generation. I honestly like the Hitmontop variant better, though, since it has an easier time against the archetypal Scarftar Stall teams that are everywhere now. Hitmontop is obviously way harder to trap and kill than Starmie is.

He Ladybug!
Pretty interesting team, the big weakness I see is Nasty plot Infernape. it can set up on about 1/2 of your team and start wreaking havoc. It outspeeds and OHKOes, Starmie with +2 LO grass not. I would recommend Switching Starmie's nature to Timid, so that you can outspeed it before it causes a lot of problems. Anyways, a really solid team! Goodluck!

Wil o wisp kinda conflicts with your poisen damage from toxic spikes. I.e you can't touch Tyranitar if it's poisned, you could always try Hp Fighting, with a speed lowering nature.

Anyway, I tested Ice Shard before. Without Blizzard, I'm even weaker to things like Gliscor, who can just Taunt and Toxic everthing, they usually use it with a Pursuiter user, so they will try to get rid of Starmie and do work with Gliscor. Though, it's really helpful for things like Dragonite and Flygon, but I prefer having Blizzard for Gliscor over Ice Shard for the dragons. I guess it's your choice if you want to use Ice Shard or Blizzard. Also, Blizzard hits harder! Quote:

Hi there Lady Bug,
I have absolutely nothing to add regarding the team itself, this is clearly the best form Hail Stall will ever assume on 4th gen. I just wanted to nitpick something: On Starmie, with a Timid nature and an EV Spread of 252 HP / 228 Def / 28 Spe; you get 4 extra Defense and the same Speed. Nothing huge, but who knows when these will come in handy. Great team =)

SD Cradily weak
Ok so anyway I've played this team a few times (once for a ST, several times on the ladder) and it is quite certainly the face of an "effective OU hail team," so congrats for that. I have but a few suggestions. -On Spiritomb, I suggest replacing Sleep Talk with Shadow Ball, Sucker Punch or Curse. When you use Sleep Talk, selecting Rest or Pursuit will both give you no benefit, as Pursuit does very feeble damage when the opponent stays in, especialy with no Attack investment. Even if you do select WoW, not only will it often not be an ideal move to thit the opponent with (Infernape and Heatran are two of the most common switch-ins anyway), and even if hitting it with WoW is ideal, factoring in the shaky accuracy, you only have ~25% chance of doing something productive while Sleep Talking. You could also run Pain Split over Rest if you don't like the idea of Rest with no Sleep Talk. -Next, I suggest you put Blizzard on Nidoqueen (if you put it over SR, shift SR to Blissey, if you put it over TSpikes, then... You don't get TSpikes). Blizzard really helps you deal with threats like DD Dragonite who can really hurt this team if Skarmory is weakened (assuming it packs Fire Punch/Fire Blast), and Blizzard Nidoqueen makes for a great check to it if it's not a LO Earthquake variant. Blizzard also hits Gliscor and Flygon, and does more damage against shit like Hippowdon (70% accuracy though) and Gengar. -As Bluewind said even if you want to invest more EVs in Defense than Speed, using a Timid nature yields you more stats, which can come in handy when you rely on Starmie to counter so much (Gyarados, Infernape, etc). I'd also suggest you at least test Vaporeon over Starmie, but I'm sure you're adamant about having a spinner for Obama so I probably won't even suggest that. Great team, one of the best of Gen IV (maybe not anymore, but when the metagame was better for it), congratulations.

this is obviously a great team with not many things to change as previous posters have already said. i second the suggestion of using ice shard over blizzard because dragons can really be a problem for this team as i'm sure you know, especially the mix ones with draco meteor, and ice shard really helps. you already have starmie and gliscor will always switch out the first time against abomasnow to check for the ice-type attack so it doesn't matter much anyways. if you think you will still have gliscor problems without blizzard, you can look for ice beam/blizzard on nidoqueen instead of probably fire blast, or possibly stealth rock if you give blissey stealth rock instead of toxic since it isn't all that important considering a lot of zapdos have substitute, which is what i assume toxic is used for mainly, and pain split rotom doesn't mind toxic that much as long as it doesn't stay in a lot and keeps pain splitting (plus a lot of those have substitute too). i like to use reflect on my resttalk rotoms when i also have toxic spikes because not only does wisp often conflict with toxic spikes but wisp and reflect basically do the same thing except reflect can support the team, and offensive attackers like lo gyara will die pretty quickly with or without the burn damage (plus reflect cannot miss). i would also move the defense evs to special defense since you have wisp/reflect, but that doesn't matter much. that's all i got, serious props for using hail for spl, tours, etc. because hail is not easy to use; it just shows how skilled you really are. good luck lady bug and i hope i helped a little!

@Bluewind
Thanks, I'll use that spread now. @Delta hmm... I'll go and test some moves over Sleep Talk for now, because like what you said, it wasn't really helpful really, only against Starmie. Also, I'm going to keep rest because of Toxic and Substitute Machamp. I was going to use Blizzard on Nidoqueen, but sadly, I need its current 4 moves, so I can't really replace it with anything. And yea, Rapid Spin is really needed. Not just for SR, also for stuff like Skarmory, who can set up on this team freely without Starmie. @Cost Blissey actually uses Toxic more than any other move. Without it, Zapdos can PP stall Blissey easily, and I don't want to keep using SR just to stall it out... plus it means I'll run out of PP too and won't be able to wall other special attackers. Also, when I Toxic a Pain Split Rotom-A, I just keep using Wish and Protect, since it will eventually die due to Toxic. Or I can just go to Spiritomb and spam Pursuit on it, because if it switches it will lose a lot of health, and if it stays in it will die because of Toxic. Anyway, I'm going to test Ice Shard again along with something else over Sleep Talk on Spiritomb, not sure what for now. |
