They will still get to the knock out stages. 2 teams to qualify in a group of 3 is a joke
If the group games that ended in tie didn't go into penalties and the winner of every group moved through then I would be optimistic about the 48 team structure, but this gives me no hopeI don't mind 48 teams at the world cup if they used the continental championships as the qualifiers. So say the top teams at the previous Euros or Afcon qualify for the world cup. That way there's less international qualifiers, less pressure on clubs and players, and a whole summer of football every 4 years. But of course that would mean less money for FIFA so...
*Host the world cupCant wait to see Fiji in the World Cup
I mean really even a 32 team world cup has national sides that are far from "powerhouses"Because Ukraine, Northern Ireland and Albania are football powerhouses.
The last world cup didn't have anyone that didn't belong. Sure there were a few number of teams that weren't powerhouses but more or less proved they should be thereI mean really even a 32 team world cup has national sides that are far from "powerhouses"
Correct. But you also had South Africa's world cup which had an influx of underpowered sides that could only launch an attack once every 23 minutes. Brazil 2014 also showed that Asian football is still weak and African football keeps disagreeing with player bonuses and whatever which ruins most of the tournament for at least three of their teams. The last world cup didn't have anyone that didn't belong. 32 still seems prestigious enough for a tournament. I would think maybe asia and africa could lose a qualification to europe and south america but the tournament seems in a good place. But that would assume fifa isn't in charge which...Correct. But you also had South Africa's world cup which had an influx of underpowered sides that could only launch an attack once every 23 minutes. There's too many issues with football that FIFA doesnt want to address because they're only concerned about money. The rules for one need a big update because currently the game rewards playing for a 0-0 instead of trying to win. 30 years ago, rules had to be changed to make wins more appealing than draws, and the 3-point system was introduced. I feel like football needs a bigger overhaul than that right now, but at least something should be attempted.Correct. more to do with the terrible football we played that stifled our creative players, and all the duffers he bought.Literally one of the most important coaches of the late 20th and 21st century and United fans still can't get over the fact that Ferguson left with a terrible squad to fuck over the managers for the next couple of years
Herrera, Shaw, Blind, Darmian, Martial, Lingard, Borthwick-Jackson, Rashford, McNair, Blackett etc, Van Gaal seemed to be bringing up new talent to replace the crap left by ferguson and not really dealt with by Moyes. Considering the youth players Van Gaal has brought up, Kluivert, Seedorf, Davids, Xavi, Iniesta, Puyol, Muller, Schweinsteiger, Badstuber, Alaba etc, could have probably made you guys solid for a while. But you guys went with the anti youth lol have fun with thatmore to do with the terrible football we played that stifled our creative players, and all the duffers he bought.
