Well, it took a good three months of waiting, but in typical Engineer fashion, our beloved Poison-type Gym Leader has finally come to accept the challenge of Italy's #1 Smogon ASB player: zarator. Engineer comes into this match with a solid record, his only loss in his gym defence coming against yours truly, but zarator might prove to be one tougher customer to deal with, who seems to be ready to storm the gym, armed with his trusty 100+ move behemoths! This looks to be a tightly contested match on paper, but will it be a tightly contested match in practice? We shall find out, as we get ready to roll on this... stable flask that seems to highlight Engineer's ambitions in chemistry... -.-'

Restrictions: OHKO moves are banned.

Description:
In the beautiful world of PYREX™ lies a gigantic titration flask, half-full with some ungodly acid; the opening is barely large enough for daring trainers to slip through, and so, of course, that's where the gym battles always take place.

Anything poisonous is powered up in this flask, especially slow-acting toxins. Acid constantly eats away at those affected by it, taking its toll over long periods of time—not even pressure equalization can stop the acid from doing its deed. Yet, the water content is enough those who need it to draw their power from.

Despite borosilicate's resistance to thermal expansion and network solid configuration, it's still quite fragile and vulnerable to a Pokemon's attacks. As such, all of the highly powerful attacks are outright banned, as are items whose sole purpose are to increase damage. That's all there is to it.

Summary:
Effects
  • BPSN starts at 2 DPA instead of the normal 1 DPA.
  • Pokemon without a Poison or non-corroded Steel typing take 1/3 DPA.
  • Rain Dish and Dry Skin are activated at half value in clear weather.
  • Choice Band, Choice Specs, Life Orb, Expert Belt, Muscle Band, Wise Glasses, Evolutionary Stones, Elemental Gems, and +4 DMG items (e.g. Silk Scarf) have no effect.
  • Black Sludge has its effect increased by 50% if it is not boosted by the holder's ability.
Codifications
  • A Pokemon afflicted with PSN that would be PSNed again by an attack will have PSN replaced with BPSN which starts at 2 DPA.
  • Weather Ball is Water-type.
  • SolarBeam retains its full BAP. Morning Sun, Moonlight, and Synthesis restore default amounts of HP.
  • Camouflage replaces the user's typing with a Poison typing.
  • Air Lock and Cloud Nine have no effect on acid DMG.

TEAM ENGINEER PIKACHU

Toxicroak (Kailu) (M)
NATR: Lonely (+1 Atk, -1 Def)

TYPE: Poison / Fighting
Poison STAB; immunity to Poison/Toxic, see and breath through smog/smokescreens/haze uninhibited. Able to use Wrap and Bind without losing focus. Superior senses in urban settings.

Fighting STAB; ignore weight restrictions of throwing/grappling moves. Superior reaction time in close quarters.

ABILITIES
Anticipation: (Passive) This Pokemon is better at sensing dangerous attacks, and reduced the Base Attack Power from super-effective attacks, Selfdestruct, and Explosion by two (2).
Dry Skin: (Passive) This Pokemon has spongy, yet sensitive skin, causing it to burn in bright sunlight for damage but absorb water and heal damaged tissues in rain. This effect results in dealing 2 damage/action to this Pokemon in sunlight and recovering 2 HP/action in rain. In addition, the dry skin is very vulnerable to flames and the Base Attack Power of incoming Fire attacks is increased by 2. The Pokemon absorbs the damage of water attacks and recovers 25% of HP the damage that would have been inflicted.
Poison Touch (Unlocked): (Toggle) This Pokemon's body is covered with a film of poison. On default, whenever it hits an opponent with a contact attack, that opponent has a 30% chance of being Poisoned. When toggled, this Pokemon's natural toxins are more potent, and so all of this Pokemon's attacks that inflict regular poison will inflict Toxic poison instead, with the same chance of effect.

Mold Breaker: (Innate) Whenever this Pokemon attacks, it emits an invisible, blindingly quick pulse preceding the attack that disables the opponents natural abilities (e.g. Levitators plummet towards the ground before Earthquake hits, Volt Absorb will not absorb electric attacks, Clear Body does not prevent stat-drops, etc.)
Unnerve (DW): (Innate) The Pokemon's presense causes immense tension in the opponent, preventing them from eating a held Berry. Natural Gift may still be used.

It can still attack itself in confusion, but will not take any damage from it. Additionally, the energy protects the Pokemon from its own reckless recoil attacks. Toxic still increases in damage each round, although if Magic Guard is in effect the Pokemon will not suffer any damage. Life Orb recoil is not negated.

No Guard: (Innate) This Pokemon has an immense confidence from perfecting each of its attacks, giving them all perfect accuracy. As a result, it feels it can weather every strike, and will not dodge an attack even if ordered to. Only when an OHKO move is issued by the opponent does sense return, and the Pokemon acts normally. Additionally, even with their extra skill, the power and exhaustion involved in using OHKO moves prevents them from being benefited by No Guard; they will have their normal accuracy.
Illusion (DW): (Innate) Whenever you send this Pokemon out, it can feign the appearance of another member on your squad. If this Pokemon is damaged by a direct attack, the Illusion will cease at the end of the round. Direct damage is any attack that does damage to the Pokemon's HP. Attacks that are evaded, blocked via Protect, or damage a Substitute are not considered direct damage. It will retain the typing and moveset of the Pokemon with Illusion. [Usage Note: PM the ref if you are sending out a Pokemon with Illusion with the info on said Pokemon and one of your squad members in a Switch=KO battle. You must use that squad member later in the battle though.]

Experiment One - Telekinesis vs. Seismic Moves

Aim: To see if you can avoid seismic moves by using Telekinesis on yourself.

Hypothesis: Can you use Telekinesis on yourself & avoid seismic attacks or something?

Equipment: One Leader Engineer Pikachu with one Fidgit holding a Black Sludge, one Challenger with one Snorlax holding a Full Incense, one Data Audit Thread, one Random.org.

Procedure: Whatever the trainers ordered. Yeah, well who am I to tell two users how to order?

What Happened: The Fidgit (Shokoli) started by going against the script & planted several sharp stones on the side of Engineer Pikachu's opponent, zarator. zarator's Snorlax (Bahgtru) went against the script as well, & decided to belly flop on Shokoli. Not much damage occured, & it seems like nothing else happened of note. The acid then started eating into Bahgtru & Shokoli absorbed some of her Black Sludge. Shokoli finally decides to participate in the experiment & uses Telekinesis on herself. Somehow through all logic & shitty precedent, Shokoli has locked herself into place in the air. Bahgtru also participates & causes a tremor to occur in the Erlenmayer Flask. It seems like nothing happened to Shokoli, despite some acid spitting out. More acid effects then occurred, as Bahgtru created another tremor, this time stronger than the last. More spilling of acid occurred, but the Fidgit was unharmed. Shokoli finally fired off a gust of wind that somehow managed to lift the heavy Snorlax up off the ground & back into his Poké Ball. zarator's Haxorus (Lendys) was then brought out & was jabbed by pointed stones.

LEADER ENGINEER PIKACHU VS. CHALLENGER ZARATOR

Experiment Two - Is Spike-Stacking Actually Broken In ASB?

Aim: To prove whether spike-stacking is broken in ASB or not.

Hypothesis: It is considered to be one of the more supposedly dangerous strategies in ASB, but is it really that dangerous? Innocent until proven guilty, so surely spike-stacking is not broken until proven otherwise, right?

Equipment: One Leader Engineer Pikachu with one Fidgit holding a Black Sludge, one Challenger with one Haxorus holding a Mental Herb, one Data Audit Thread, one Random.org.

Procedure: Whatever the trainers ordered. Yeah, well who am I to tell two users how to order?

Results: The Fidgit (Shokoli) initially went against the experiment by firing smelly, disgusting sludge at the Haxorus (Lendys). The sludge hit Lendys, & he was badly poisoned as a result. Lendys then went against the experiment by enveloping his tail in H2O, before whipping his tail at Shokoli, dousing her in H2O & dealing considerable damage. Lendys was then hurt by poison & acid, as Shokoli absorbed some of her unsanitary sludge. Shokoli then decided to go on with the experiment by firing off a bunch of spikes, which planted themselves around zarator's field alongside the pointed stones that existed. Lendys simply continued to attack, on the other hand, by enveloping himself in dragon-like energy, before slashing his claws into Shokoli's skin for some more damage. More acid & poison then ate into Lendys' skin, as Shokoli continued to absorb some of her pollutant. Shokoli then attacked with a gust of SiO2 in an attempt to trap Lendys, but the Haxorus simply evaded the attack. Lendys then enveloped his tail in dragon-like energy, before slamming it at Shokoli, dealing damage & shocking her. More poison & acid continued to bite at Lendys, while Shokoli continued to regenerate from her never-ending pile of sludge. At this point, Shokoli was then forced back into Engineer Pikachu's Poké Ball, & his Gengar (Youma) was forced out to replace it.

Conclusion: It is inconclusive to say whether spike-stacking is broken in ASB or not. Maybe it -could- be proven in future experiments, but... not this one! What was proven, however, is that SiO2 whirlwinds are not accurate, & that Haxorus are definitely powerful attackers.

References: The above posts & the Data Audit Thread.

In short, Lendys dealt a lot of damage, while Shokoli engaged in more support & residual damage-dealing, but missing with Sand Tomb certainly hurt. Shall we move on to the next experiment?

LEADER ENGINEER PIKACHU VS. CHALLENGER ZARATOR

Experiment Three - Can A Gengar Out-damage A Haxorus?

Aim: To prove that Gengar can win damage races, even against something like Haxorus.

Hypothesis: Haxorus are known for being notoriously offensive with their ridiculous Physical Attack & decent bulk. Surely it will certainly out-damage Gengar, right?

Equipment: One Leader Engineer Pikachu with one Gengar holding a Black Sludge, one Challenger zarator with one Haxorus holding a Mental Herb, one Data Audit Thread, one Random.org.

Procedure: Whatever the trainers ordered. Yeah, well who am I to tell two users how to order?

Results: The Gengar (Youma) begins by raining drops of poison on the Haxorus (Lendys) which causes Lendys to scream in agony as the effects of his poisoning exacerbated the strength of the drops. Lendys then responds by striking Youma with one powerful dark strike, though it does not deal that much damage. Youma then heals up on his sludge, as Lendys continues to scream with the acid & poison continuing to take their toll. Youma then fires more poisonous drops from above which hit Lendys & make him scream louder. Lendys responds by enveloping his tail in an aura of ferrum, before slamming it at Youma, dealing some noticeable damage. Youma continues to recover as Lendys feels more agony. Youma then continues the pain with an exacerbating horror that takes over Lendys' horror & ruptures him on the inside for major damage before subsiding. At this point, Lendys was badly wounded, but he would not give up, enveloping his axe blades in dragon-like energy, before slashing at Youma twice for some sizeable damage. At this point, Youma was felling bruised, but was still recovering with his pollutant, while Lendys continued to struggle against the might of the worsening poison & acid.

Conclusion: The Gengar certainly out-damaged the Haxorus, but this was due to a number of factors from poison to acid increasing the strength of its attacks. Because of this assistance, we cannot completely prove that Gengar can win a damage race against a Haxorus.

References: The above posts & the Data Audit Thread.

In short, the two combatants trade blows in a high damage slog-fest, & it certainly looks like Lendys might fall over really soon... Maybe Lendys will fall next experiment?

Equipment: One Leader Engineer Pikachu with one Gengar holding a Black Sludge, one Challenger zarator with one Clefable holding a Mental Herb, one Data Audit Thread, one Random.org.

Eilistraee (F) @ Mental Herb (3)
Abilities
: Magic Guard
HP/EN: 100 / 100
Stats
: 3 / 3 / 4 / 3 / 52
SC/WC/BRT: 3 / 3 / 17
Boosts: -10% Evasion
Status: N/A

Procedure: Whatever the trainers ordered. Yeah, well who am I to tell two users how to order?

Results: Basically to summarise, The Clefable (Eilistraee) came in & shrugged off the entry hazards & went on an assault, but the Gengar (Youma) responded by creating four copies of himself. Eilistraee took down two clones before hitting the real Youma, but in the meantime, Youma simply absorbed some sludge, & fired off unsanitary waste & a sphere of focused aura at Eilistraee with sniper-like accuracy.

Conclusion: Indeed, because of chance, Double Team is unreliable. Always has been, & always will be. It was because of chance the Gengar got a free hit, & it was because of chance Gengar got hit.

References: The above posts & the Data Audit Thread.

Basically, Youma managed to buy some turns this round, as Eilistraee took the entire round to hit the real Gengar. It looks like things are not going exactly as how the challenger planned!

Experiment Six - Can You Dig Through A Flask?

Aim: To see if digging through a flask is possible

Hypothesis: Flasks are made of glass. You cannot dig through glass, right?

Equipment: One Leader Engineer Pikachu with one Mollux holding a Black Sludge, one Challenger zarator with one Clefable holding a Mental Herb, one Data Audit Thread, one Random.org.

Yogan (F) @ Black Sludge
Abilities

Stats
: 1 / 4 / 5 / 4 / 76
SC/WC/BRT: 3 / 3 / 20
Boosts: N/A
Status: N/A

Procedure: Whatever the trainers ordered. Yeah, well who am I to tell two users how to order?

Results: The Mollux (Yogan) goes on the offensive, starting with a volcanic plume of fire that torches the Clefable (Eilistraee). Eilistraee has other ideas though & paralyses Yogan with a pulse of static energy. Eilistraee then goes on the offensive by burying into the flask & the acid—which she does not seem to mind—eventually creating a hole that some of the acid seems to start leaking out of. Eilistraee manages to avoid the wave of heat summoned by Yogan, before popping through the same hole & striking for some noticeable damage. Yogan then suddenly regenerates though sludge & moist skin, as Eilistraee burrows through the hole once more, dodging a spray of poisonous substances from Yogan. Eilistraee then strikes once more as Yogan regenerates.

Conclusion: Yes, as nonsensical as it sounds, you -can- dig through a flask. Just do not do it at home — you will be an idiot for doing so. No, really, do not bother. I am warning you. Seriously.

References: The above posts & the Data Audit Thread. Also, random logic.

Well through random arena logic, the Clefable seems to make inroads into the new opponent with some noticeable damage! Well, after that, I guess Engineer better hopes that there is a way that the flask cam fix the holes & leaking acid caused by the Clefable's digging...
