[OVERVIEW]

Braviary is a Pokemon to watch out for in the Almost Any Ability metagame. It is arguably the metagame's best Gale Wings user: it's faster than Honchkrow, and more powerful than Staraptor; it is also bulkier than both of them. Unlike Skarmory, it can hit hard without boosts and isn't walled by Steel- and Electric-types. It also has access to Superpower, which, when combined with its STAB moves, allows Braviary to hit everything in the metagame apart from Doublade for neutral damage. If you don't need a Gale Wings revenge killer, Braviary can also run a Bulk Up set with Poison Heal to break through stall teams. Despite facing competition from Snorlax, Braviary has more than enough tools to stand out from it: it's faster, and more powerful, and also has reliable recovery in Roost, and packs a STAB move that nothing is immune to in Brave Bird.

Things aren't perfect for the all-American eagle, though, as its weakness to Stealth Rock in tandem with the recoil it takes from Brave Bird wear it down quickly. Braviary is also walled by Doublade and Skarmory, two very common threats. Refrigerate Extreme Speed users such as Lucario and Genesect can also check Braviary.

Moves
========

Brave Bird is the main attack on this set, getting STAB and gaining +1 priority thanks to Gale Wings. Superpower hits Rock- and Steel-types such as Tyranitar and Heatran that resist Braviary's STAB moves for super effective damage. U-turn lets Braviary scout switch-ins and grab momentum, which can be useful to get in a teammate that possesses the ability Magnet Pull. Return is the other STAB move on this set, hitting Electric-types such as Rotom-W and Zapdos that resist Brave Bird hard. Tailwind can be used as a last-ditch move to help Braviary's teammates outrun a would-be check.

Set details
========

A Choice Band gives Braviary great power, allowing it to 2HKO almost everything that doesn't resist its STAB moves. The Speed EVs let Braviary outrun max Speed Adamant Honchkrow, and Attack is maximized for optimum power; the rest of the EVs are placed into HP for some extra bulk. The EV spread is flexible: maximum Speed with a Jolly nature is viable too, if you're worried about being outrun by opposing Braviary. Braviary can also run an EV spread of 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Def if you prefer bulk to Speed. Gale Wings is chosen in order to circumvent Braviary's average Speed with a priority Brave Bird.

Usage tips
========

This set is best used as a revenge killer and late-game cleaner. Even though Braviary's not frail, this set has no recovery whatsoever, so don't switch it in recklessly. When possible, bring it in via a slow Volt Switch or U-turn or after one of its teammates faints. If you're pairing Braviary with a Magnet Pull user such as Heatran or Raikou, using U-turn early in the game is advised to draw out the likes of Skarmory. Be sure to keep an eye out for Extreme Speed users, as they will outprioritize Brave Bird. Refrigerate-boosted Extreme Speed will really hurt; Lucario and Genesect are notable users of this move. Brave Bird will be Braviary's go-to move most of the time, unless your opponent still has Pokemon that resist it. A well-timed Return or Superpower could open up a vital hole in your opponent's team.

Team options
========

Powerful Ground-types such as Garchomp, Mega Swampert, and Landorus-T can remove the Rock-, Steel-, and Electric-types that resist Braviary's Flying STAB and help clear the way for a sweep. They can also come in on the Volt Switch users that Braviary draws in and help conserve momentum.

Keeping Stealth Rock off the field is a top priority when using this set. Latias can provide Defog support and heal Braviary with Healing Wish; Excadrill can spin away the entry hazards and check Rock-, Steel-, and Electric-types. Entry hazards help Braviary get KOs it otherwise couldn't: Stealth Rock allows Braviary to 2HKO 252 HP / 252 Def Bold Cresselia most of the time with Brave Bird. Ferrothorn has good defensive synergy with Braviary, as it resists Electric- and Rock-type moves; Braviary can also check the Fighting-types that Ferrothorn fears. Magnet Pull users such as Heatran and Rotom-W can also trap and remove bulky Steel-types, most notably Skarmory. While Braviary fears Doublade and Skarmory, they both, ironically, make for good teammates, as they can switch in on the Refrigerate-boosted Extreme Speed users that Braviary draws to it.

[SET COMMENTS]

Moves
========

Bulk Up boosts Braviary's Attack and Defense, giving it the power and bulk it needs to sweep. Brave Bird is Braviary's primary STAB attack, as nothing is immune to it. Roost provides reliable recovery, helping Braviary grab more opportunities to grab boosts. Facade can be used to hit Electric-types, and to act as a STAB move with no recoil. Its high PP also lets Braviary stall out Unaware Cresselia and Suicune. Substitute could be used instead to avoid Leech Seed, Worry Seed, and Dragon Tail. Superpower can also be used to hit the Rock- and Steel-types that resist Brave Bird super effectively. Protect is also an option if running Poison Heal to guarantee that Toxic Orb will activate; it also lets Braviary scout the foe's moves and grab another turn of recovery.

Set Details
========

236 HP EVs give Braviary a HP stat divisible by 8, thus maximising Poison Heal recovery. 52 Speed EVs let Braviary outrun uninvested Rotom-W. The rest of the EVs are put in Special Defense for extra bulk. Since Bulk Up boosts Attack and Defense, those stats don't need investment. If running Substitute or Gale Wings, run an EV spread of 252 HP / 204 SpD / 52 Spe, as that lets Braviary make 101 HP Substitutes, meaning that Seismic Toss won't break them in one hit. Toxic Orb is used to activate Poison Heal, giving Braviary passive recovery and an immunity to status ailments. Gale Wings could also be used to offer a balance of stallbreaking and sweeping. If running Gale Wings, Leftovers should be used for passive recovery.

Usage Tips
========

This set is best used mid- and late-game once Braviary's checks and counters have been weakened. It's important to note that while this set is very effective against stall teams, it struggles against heavily offensive teams. Weak walls with no phazing moves such as Alomomola, Porygon2, (AC) and non-Skill Swap Chansey are ideal to set up on. Keep Braviary away from users of sound-based moves such as Noivern, as they those moves bypass Substitutes. Also, be wary of Knock Off users if Braviary hasn't been poisoned yet. Phazers such as Skarmory and Hippowdon can stop this set before it gets too far, so make sure they're out of the picture before setting up.

Team Options
========

Strong Ground-types make for good allies to soften up the Rock- and Steel-types that resist Brave Bird and Facade, namely Tyranitar and Heatran. They can also come in on the Electric-type moves that Braviary is weak to. Physical wallbreakers such as Tough Claws Genesect and Swords Dance Lucario can soften up or outright remove Braviary's checks. Despite Braviary's access to Roost and Poison Heal, entry hazard removal is still strongly recommended to make it less reliant on recovery. Excadrill, Skarmory, and Latias can provide this support; the former two can also set up entry hazards themselves.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]

Other Options
========

A Sky Plate or Sharp Beak could be used on the Gale Wings set, but Braviary would lose out on a lot of power. Shadow Claw can 3HKO Doublade, but it has little utility elsewhere; Braviary also just doesn't have the space for it. Sleep Talk is an option if running Choice Band, but Return and Tailwind power and utility respectively are more useful for that set. There are a few more abilities that can be used on the Bulk Up set. Delta Stream negates all of Braviary's weaknesses, making it very difficult to take down after a few boosts. Tinted Lens gives Brave Bird almost perfect neutral coverage, as Magnezone is the only Pokémon that Pokemon with a 4x resistance to it. Braviary can use Defog, but Mandibuzz, Zapdos, and Togekiss are better users of that move due to their superior defensive typings and better overall bulk.

Checks and Counters
========

**Bulky Steel-types** Doublade and Skarmory wall Braviary completely. Doublade can set up on it, while defensive Skarmory can phaze it out with Whirlwind. Mega Metagross can handle anything Braviary does and hit it back hard with a Tough Claws-boosted Meteor Mash.

**Electric-types** Bulky Electric-types such as Zapdos and Rotom-W can survive a Choice Band-boosted Return and OHKO Braviary with Thunderbolt. Faster Electric types such as Raikou and Thundurus can endure a Brave Bird, outrun Braviary, and OHKO it with Thunderbolt. However, many of the faster Electric-types will have to watch out for a Choice Band-boosted Return.

**Rock-types** Tyranitar resists Return and Brave Bird and can OHKO Braviary with Stone Edge. It is OHKOed by Superpower, though. Mega Diancie can outrun Braviary and can OHKO it with Diamond Storm; it also takes little damage from Brave Bird.

**Extreme Speed and Faster Priority Users** Refrigerate Genesect and Lucario can outprioritize Braviary with their respective Extreme Speeds and OHKO it, although they are both are OHKOed by a Choice Band-boosted Brave Bird, so they can't switch into it. Staraptor is faster than Braviary and can OHKO it with its own Gale Wings-boosted Brave Bird, but likewise, it is OHKOed by a Choice Band-boosted Brave Bird or Return.

Overview
  • Mention how Braviary is bulkier than Honchkrow, its other main rival.
  • Note how Braviary is walled by Skarmory and Doublade, two of the most common Pokemon in the metagame.
  • Can't find anything other than this, good work!

Gale Wings Attacker

Set
  • Move Return to slot 4 as Superpower and U-Turn are more critical to Braviary's usefulness.
  • Slash Tailwind after Return as a last ditch effort priority move that Braviary can use to support its teammates.
  • Remove Sky Plate, as without a Choice Band Braviary is largely outclassed by offensive Skarmory.
  • 4 Defense EVs are better than 4 Special Defense EVs on Braviary, as Braviary's powerful Priority will generally mean most special attackers will not be able to stand up to it, and it has more to fear from both Download users with priority (Which apart from Vacuum Wave is always physical) and Download Metagross.
Moves
  • Add an explanation for the newly added Tailwind.
Set Details
  • Just say that the given EVs outspeed uninvested Zapdos instead of base 100s, since zappy is pretty much the only reason Braviary has speed investment.
  • Mention in Set Details how if Return is not used a [ 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Def ] spread is better, as Braviary no longer needs to outspeed Zapdos.
Usage Tips
  • Mention how keeping Stealth Rock off the field should be a top priority when using Braviary since they wear down Braviary very quickly.
  • Since ExtremeSpeed has higher priority than Brave Bird, mention how Braviary should keep an eye out for ExtremeSpeed users, Refrigerate ones especially.
Team Options
  • Mention how these Ground-types can also absorb Volt Switch for Braviary and help conserve momentum.
  • Mention Magnet Pull users such as Heatran and Rotom-W to trap and eliminate problematic Steel-types for Braviary.
  • Flash Fire Steel-types such as Doublade and Skarmory can switch in to ExtremeSpeed users which threaten Braviary.

Bulk Up

Set
  • Bulk Up Braviary is a lot better with Poison Heal, as the additional passive recovery and immunity to status allow it to function a lot better. Replace all the given abilities with Poison Heal and Leftovers with Toxic Orb.
  • Unslash Return from Brave Bird since Scrappy is no longer being used.
  • Slash Facade before Substitute, as the immunity to status no longer makes Substitute as mandatory.
Moves
  • Adjust the move descriptions according to the changes on the set.
  • Be sure to mention how Facade's high PP allows Braviary to beat common Unaware users such as Suicune and Cresselia by stalling out their recovery.
  • Mention how Substitute is very useful to block moves such as Worry Seed and Dragon Tail, and that it provides Braviary with a way to shield itself from predicted switch-ins and critical hits.
Set Details
  • Again adjust for the changes.
Usage Tips
  • Since Poison Heal is now Braviary's main ability, be sure to specify Chansey that don't have Skill Swap.
  • Mention that Braviary should be cautious of Knock Off users before its Toxic Orb activates, as Braviary is not nearly as useful unpoisoned.
Team Options
  • Mention Magnet Pull users again to trap and eliminate problematic Steel-types.
  • Remove the mention of Tinted Lens.

Strategy Comments

Other Options
  • Remove the mentions of a Scarf set, there's almost no reason to use that over Gale Wings.
  • Remove the mention of Poison Heal here since it's on the main set, and mention Delta Stream and Gale Wings on that set instead. Magic Guard is also generally outclassed by Poison Heal, so remove that.
  • Since Tailwind is now on the main set remove mentions of it here.
C&C
  • The format here needs to be changed a bit - see another analysis in the quality control phase in this forum to see how it needs to be formatted.
  • Checks and counters need to be Pokemon, so remove the section dedicated to passive damage.
  • Mention Doublade as a counter, as it can cut through Bulk Up boosts with Sacred Sword and in general takes very little damage from either set.

Good analysis!

Made the changes - also slashed Protect in with Substitute on the Bulk Up set, as that guarantees the Toxic Orb will activate. You can also use it to scout the opponent's moves and grab a turn of Poison Heal recovery. I also listed a spread of 236 HP / 220 SpD / 52 Spe for sets not running Substitute, as that hits a Poison Heal number.

Adrian's computer broke and aesf quit. You can tag -Grim too now, though. Also, this wasn't supposed to be written in full until you got two QC checks.

Mention that being locked in a move doesn't matter a lot because most of the time Braviary is just using Brave Bird or predicting a switch in anyway.

Mention max Speed to outrun opposing Braviary (and Honchkrow).

Usage tips

Mention that this is supposed to work best mid- / end- game after its checks have been worn down.

Team Options
========
Don't say things like 'As before', the sets will be seperate in the smogdex and people will probably not read both.
I think physical wallbreakers would be a much better teammates considering physical walls that bother Braviary are never going to be switched into special wallbreakers lol.
Magnet Pull users are still good teammates for the same reasons (even more so because of the lack of Superpower coverage).

Other Options
========
Mention why Braviary is mostly outclassed as a Defogger (likes coverage and a choice band).
Mention Sharp Beak.
Mention Shadow Claw, it hits Doublade for decent damage (252+ Atk Choice Band Braviary Shadow Claw vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Doublade: 114-136 (35.5 - 42.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO), but not enough to 2hko without lots of entry hazards are prior damage.

Checks and Counters
========
Mention Electric-types in general instead of just bulky ones because faster ones like Raikou can also check it. Do mention that bulky ones are better of course.
Same goes for Rock-types, faster Rock-types are rarer but I'm quite sure max Speed Tyranitar outruns the current ev spread and Choice Scarf isn't a bad item. Also mention regular diancie, it's fat enough to wall birds completely coupled with its typing.
Change 'Extremespeed users' to 'Faster Priority' because faster Gale Wings users such as Staraptor and similar stuff also beats Braviary.

Bulk Up boosts Bravirary's boosts Attack and Defencse, giving it the power and bulk to sweep. Brave Bird is the chosen attack as nothing is immune to it. Roost provides reliable recovery, helping Braviary grab more boosts. Facade can be used to hit Electric -types, as well as giving Braviary a STAB move with no recoil. Its high PP also lets youit stall out Unaware Cresselia and Suicune's recovery. Substitute could be used instead to avoid Leech Seed, Worry Seed and Dragon Tail. Superpower can be used to hit the Rock- and Steel -types that resist Brave Bird super effectively. Protect is also an option if running Poison Heal to guarantee the Toxic Orb will activate, as well as; it also lets Braviary scout the opponent's moves and grab another turn of recovery.

Set Details

236 HP EVs give Braviaryreach a Poison Heal number. 52 Speed EVs lets Braviary outrun uninvested Rotom-A. The rest iof the EVs are put in Special Defencse for extra bulk in that area. Since Bulk Up boosts Attack and Defencse, theyose stats don't need investment. If running Substitute or Gale Wings, run a spread of 252 HP / 204 SpD / 52 Spe as that lets Braviaryou make 101 HP Substitutes so, meaning that 1 Seismic Toss won't break them. **Faster Priority** Refrigerate Genesect and Lucario can out prioritisze Braviary with their respective Extreme Speeds and OHKO, although both are OHKOed by a Choice Band -boosted Brave Bird. Staraptor is faster than Braviary and can OHKO it with its own Gale Wings -boosted Brave Bird, but is OHKOed by a Choice Band -boosted Brave Bird or Return.

A Choice Band gives Braviary great power, allowing it to 2HKO almost everything that doesn't resist its STABs. The Speed EVs let Braviary outrun max Speed Adamant Honchkrow, with Attack maximized for optimum power; the rest of the EVs are placed into HP for some extra bulk. The spread is flexible: max Speed with a Jolly nature is viable too in order to outpace opposing Gale Wings users. You could also run a spread of 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Def if you prefer bulk to Speed. Gale Wings is chosen in order to circumvent Braviary's average Speed with a priority Brave Bird.

Usage tips
========

This set is best used as a revenge killer and late-game cleaner. Even though Braviary's not frail, this set has no recovery whatsoever, so don't switch it in recklessly. When possible, bring it in via a slow Volt Switch/U-turn or after one of its teammates faints. If you're pairing Braviary with a Magnet Pull-user such as Heatran or Raikou, using U-turn early in the game is advised to draw out the likes of Skarmory. Be sure to keep an eye out for Extreme Speed-users, as they will out-prioritize Brave Bird. Refrigerate-boosted Extreme Speeds in particular will really hurt; Lucario and Genesect are notable users of this move. Brave Bird will be your go-to move most of the time, unless your opponent still has Pokemon that resist it. A well-timed Return or Superpower could open up a vital hole in your opponent's team.

Team options
========

Powerful Ground-types such as Garchomp, Mega Swampert, and Landorus-T can remove the Rock-, Steel- and Electric-types that resist Braviary's Flying STAB and help clear the way for a sweep. They can also come in on the Volt Switches Braviary draws in and help conserve momentum.

Keeping Stealth Rock off the field is a top priority when using this set. Latias can provide Defog support and heal Braviary with Healing Wish; Excadrill can Spin away the hazards and check the aforementioned Rock-, Steel-, and Electric-types. Entry hazards help Braviary get KOs it otherwise couldn't: Stealth Rock allows Braviary to 2HKO 252 HP / 252 Def Bold Cresselia most of the time with Brave Bird. Ferrothorn gets good synergy with Braviary, as it resists Electric and Rock moves; Braviary can also check the Fighting-types Ferrothorn fears. Magnet Pull-users such as Heatran and Rotom-W can also trap and remove bulky Steel-types, most notably Skarmory. While Braviary fears Doublade and Skarmory, they both make good teammates as they can switch in on the Refrigerate-boosted Extreme Speeds Braviary draws to it.

Moves
========

Bulk Up boosts Braviary's Attack and Defense, giving it power and bulk to sweep. Brave Bird is the chosen attack as nothing is immune to it. Roost provides reliable recovery, helping Braviary grab more boosts. Facade can be used to hit Electric-types, as well as giving Braviary a STAB move with no recoil. Its high PP also lets it stall out Unaware Cresselia and Suicune. Substitute could be used instead to avoid Leech Seed, Worry Seed and Dragon Tail. Superpower can be used to hit the Rock- and Steel-types that resist Brave Bird super effectively. Protect is also an option if running Poison Heal to guarantee the Toxic Orb will activate; it also lets Braviary scout the opponent's moves and grab another turn of recovery.

Set Details
========

236 HP EVs reach a Poison Heal number. 52 Speed EVs let Braviary outrun uninvested Rotom-A. The rest of the EVs are put in Special Defense for extra bulk in. Since Bulk Up boosts Attack and Defense, those stats don't need investment. If running Substitute or Gale Wings, run a spread of 252 HP / 204 SpD / 52 Spe as that lets Braviary make 101 HP Substitutes, meaning that 1 Seismic Toss won't break them. Toxic Orb is used to activate Poison Heal, giving Braviary passive recovery and an immunity to status. Gale Wings could also be used to offer a balance of stallbreaking and sweeping. If running Gale Wings, Leftovers should be used.

Usage Tips
========

This set is best used mid- to late-game once Braviary's checks and counters have been weakened. It's important to note that while this set is very effective against stall teams, it struggles against heavily offensive teams. Weak walls with no phazing such as Alomomola, Porygon2 and Chansey that lack Skill Swap are ideal to set up on. Keep Braviary away from users of sound-based moves such as Noivern, as they bypass Braviar's Substitutes. Also be wary of Knock Off users if Braviary hasn't been poisoned yet. Phazers such as Skarmory and Hippowdon can stop this set before it gets too far, so make sure they're out of the picture before setting up.

Team Options
========

Strong Ground-types make good allies to soften up the Rock- and Steel-types that resist Brave Bird and Facade, namely Tyranitar and Heatran. They can also come in on the Electric moves Braviary is weak to. Physical wallbreakers such as Tough Claws Genesect and Swords Dance Lucario can soften up or outright remove Braviary's checks. Despite Braviary's access to Roost and Poison Heal, hazard removal is still strongly recommended. Excadrill, Skarmory and Latias can provide Rapid Spin and Defog support, respectively; the former 2 can also set up hazards themselves.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]

Other Options
========

A Sky Plate or Sharp Beak could be used on the Gale Wings set, but Braviary would lose out on a lot of power. Shadow Claw can 3HKO Doublade, but has little utility elsewhere; Braviary also just doesn't have the space for it. Sleep Talk is an option if running Choice Band, but Return and Tailwind are simply better options. There are a few more abilities that can be used on the Bulk Up set: Delta Stream negates all of Braviary's weaknesses, making it very difficult to take down after a few boosts. Tinted Lens gives Brave Bird almost perfect neutral coverage, as Magnezone is the only Pokémon that 4x resists it. Braviary can use Defog, but Mandibuzz, Zapdos and Togekiss are better users of that move due to their superior defensive typing and better overall bulk.

Checks and Counters
========

**Bulky Steel types** Doublade and Skarmory wall Braviary completely. Doublade can set up on it, while defensive Skarmory can phaze it out with Whirlwind. Mega Metagross can handle anything Baviary does and hit back hard with a Tough Claws-boosted Meteor Mash.

**Electric types** Bulky Electric-types such as Zapdos and Rotom-W can survive a Choice Band-boosted Return and OHKO with Thunderbolt. Faster Electric types such as Raikou and Thundurus can endure a Brave Bird, outrun Braviary, and OHKO it with Thunderbolt. However, many of the faster Electric-types will have to watch out for a Choice Band-boosted Return.

**Rock types** Tyranitar resists Return and Brave Bird, and can OHKO Braviary with Stone Edge. It is OHKOed by Superpower though. Mega Diancie can outrun and can OHKO Braviary with Diamond Storm; it also takes little from Brave Bird.

**Faster Priority** Refrigerate Genesect and Lucario can out prioritize Braviary with their respective Extreme Speeds and OHKO, although both are OHKOed by a Choice Band-boosted Brave Bird. Staraptor is faster than Braviary and can OHKO it with its own Gale Wings-boosted Brave Bird, but is OHKOed by a Choice Band-boosted Brave Bird or Return.

[OVERVIEW]

Braviary is a Pokemon to watch out for in the Almost Any Ability metagame. It is arguably the metagame's best abuser of Gale Wings user: it's faster than Honchkrow, (AC) and more powerful than Staraptor, and; it is also bulkier than both of them. Unlike Skarmory, it can hit hard without boosts and isn't walled by Steel- and Electric-types. It also has access to Superpower, which, when combined with its STAB moves, (AC) allows Braviary to hit everything in the metagame apart from Doublade for neutral damage. If you don't need a Gale Wings revenge killer, Braviary can also run a Bulk Up set with Poison Heal to break through stall teams. Despite facing competition from Snorlax, Braviary has more than enough tools to stand out from it: it's faster, (AC) and more powerful, and also has reliable recovery in Roost, (AC) and packs a STAB which move that nothing is immune to in Brave Bird.

Things aren't perfect for the all-American eagle, though, as its weakness to Stealth Rock in tandem with the recoil it takes from Brave Bird wear it down quickly. Braviary is also walled by Doublade and Skarmory, two very common threats. Refrigerate Extreme Speed-(RH) users such as Lucario and Genesect can also check Braviary.

Brave Bird is the main STAB attack on this set, getting STAB and gaining +1 priority thanks to Gale Wings. Superpower hits Rock- and Steel-types such as Tyranitar and Heatran that resist Braviary's STAB moves for super effective damage. U-turn lets Braviary scout switch-ins and grab momentum, and which can be useful to get in a using teammate that possesses the ability has Magnet Pull. Return is the other STAB move on this set, hitting Electric-types such as Rotom-W and Zapdos that resist Brave Bird hard. Tailwind can be used as a last-(AH)ditch move to help Braviary's teammates outrun outspeed a would-be check.
