Ability Unity!

Protean Porygon-Z is still pretty great because it has nice coverage options.

Protean Manaphy is also something to be afraid of since it does still have Tail Glow (though that Bug typing is easily exploitable)

Also:
Double Intimidate Manectric? Intimidate Raikou? Mega Abilities were made to be mega-specific.
Hate to sound nitpicky, but Shinx and its evolutions also get Intimidate for those 2 to happen.

I mentioned in my latest post that Intimidate sounded neat on solo electric mons. But the point sticks to Mega Abilities in general, and I'd like others to give their voice so Mega Gallade can give his judgment on the unity of Mega Abilities and Primal Abilities. A lot of problems will linger around Aerilate, Delta Stream, Desolate Land (for Camerupt tho) and Primordial Sea. The ban of these types of abilities can be settled with an extended ban to Mega Abilities in general. Benefits of this: no drought for charizard with a Charizardite X, no swift swim for Mega Pert pre-evo (though Storm Drain/Water Absorb/Unaware may be better pre evo, who knows), the ban on Parental Bond would've happened if it were an extension of a Mega Ability ban, and it seems uncanny to limit mega abilities piece by piece, rather than the whole lot of them.

Adaptability Venomoth sounds cute, but it could very well be what takes it out of its normal BL, but that's just an afterthought that would need testing.

No Guard Pidgeot extends to every bird type in the game (practically), I can't even begin to name pokemon that would benefit from no guard with a better move pool than pidgeot (though weaker and presumably slower).

If you want a faster but slightly weaker Heracross, he gets his Skill Link.

Filter Registeel sounds like a monster. Klingklang benefit from this more than Clear Body I think.

All pure ghosts get prankster (if it wasn't banned already), banette gets his beloved prankster pre-evo. He might not even need evo, he can be his annoying prankster self without taking a mega slot.

Absol gets his magic bounce before he evolves.

So does Diancie.

The point is that certain mega abilities feel unnatural when they're shared, therefore we should take to limiting megas from sharing with their types. This would've taken to removing problems like Huge/Pure Power by extension (though I don't see how klefki benefits from huge power, and all other respective Power holders can't pass it to any other pokemon, other than Gallade, which would've been settled by a mega ability unity ban)

Side note, Sheer Force/Protean/Lightning Rod are all available for solo water types, thanks to Gatr, Froakie, Seaking respectively.
I've always thought Samurott would be more appropriate with Lightningrod as its hidden ability, and now he can have it.

Ive just been browsing this thread and this post/suggestion caught my eye.

I feel like the method of blanket-banning all mega abilities is truly pointless and will be a damaging blow to creativity in the metagame. Since there are such a large percentage of mega abilities that actually seem completely fine, blanket banning all of them to prevent 1 or 2 powerful combinations seems incredibly illogical. Instead I dont see whats wrong with going through very mega evolution and judging them individually.

For instance, if I start with a few examples you used in your previous posts-

Mega Swampert- Grants Swift Swim to Swampert (non-mega), Gastrodon, Quagsire, Seismitoad, Whiscash. This one is completely irrelevant because water/ground has swift swim from seismitoad already, removing mega swamperts ability from the pool will change nothing.

Mega Aggron- Grants Filter to Registeel, Klinklang. Klinklang is NU, Regi is RU. I really dont think giving them an ability that you can essentially find on Mr Mime or regular camerupt will break them in any way or relieve them of any of their actual major flaws (regi has no offensive presence or reliable recovery, klinklang has no coverage), however I think Registeel will be healthy for the metagame as a tank. Mega Aggron is C rank I believe in the current OU metagame VR, so i dont think Registeel is exactly going to dominate in a metagame that is even stronger overall.

Mega Beedrill- Grants Adaptability to Ariados, Beedrill (non-mega), Dustox, Scolipede, Venomoth. You mentioned this might be what pulls venomoth out of BL- note hes in BL because he is too unused for regular OU, so pulling him out of BL is great if it did happen! However, Venomoth gained its BL status for its utility, and already has more fitting abilities for its role as a baton passer (which is getting destroyed by the new BP clause, which is going to drop venomoth into obscurity- comparable to butterfree in NU statwise and movepoolwise without being able to baton pass anymore). Even if the new BP rules arent used here, honestly I think Venomoth could use all the boosts to its miserable offenses it could get, and still is less offensive than other sleep-based OU setup like spore breloom. If BP rules ARE used, then venomoth is going to love this buff which saves it from viability oblivion. And Im sure the other (absolutely useless) bugs ariados and dustox would also love a buff from adaptability too.

Mega Pidgeot- Grants No Guard to Pidgeot (non-mega), Chatot, Braviary, Dodrio, Farfetch'd, Noctowl, Staraptor, Swellow, Unfezant. This is definitely a strong ability on paper. Then I went in and looked at these mons' movepools, and discovered the only real benefits it gave were Sing to Chatot, Hypnosis to Noctowl and Unfezant. Seriously, Pidgeot is the ONLY pokemon here that even gets hurricane... ive never seen such bland and perfectly accurate movepools. Out of all the birds here that are already competively viable, Staraptor isnt taking No Guard here over reckless (or over tinted lens which it can get from noctowl), but Im sure Chatot would love access to Sing in order to help pull it out of PU with its nasty plot boomburst set! I feel like this is still nothing compared to the really powerful sets in this metagame, so I think itd be healthy.

I mean go through most of these megas and they are mostly fine, and a blanket-ban starts to look more and more completely unnecessary. Especially when looking at the front page Im seeing sets like Drought Typhlosion, or Contrary Mega Sceptile (jesus christ), it kinda puts Adaptability Venomoth and Filter Registeel into perspective.. in many ways I feel like the most terrifying abilities are all from regular pokemon. I get that banning all mega evos from sharing their abilities is a very easy and "clean" solution to clean up a few individual issues but in reality you're cutting out a fairly large chunk of healthy metagame and bans should really do the least collateral damage that is possible.

Why remove really nice assets to your meta like magic bounce leftovers diancie, or any of the other innovations that are yet to come? Noivern with Aerialate sounds ridiculous, but then you should target Noviern with your ban, or Aerialate.
If there are several devastating users of Aerialate and its the ability itself that is unfair, ban Aerialate, otherwise ban noivern the same way you've banned archeops thanks to its single overpowered interaction with rock head from aerodactyl. *shrug*

can you explain more about why magic bounce is unhealthy on pre-evo diancie, since it has no recovery and doesnt seem too banworthy to me. and would there be an issue with banning either noivern/aerliate, and then moving on to banning something to do with Zard X/drought (if necessary)? its not like they need to be lumped together in a ban of all mega abilities still. just seems like a huge change from the regular way of banning things in ou as well, for instance look how they targetted baton pass (something problematic in the meta) without banning all of baton pass- since most of it is healthy and fine in the meta.

There's the matter of Primal Abilities and Delta Stream, and rather than ban mons that are strong with those abilities, I'd have those abilities banned.

Also it might be easier to code it to disallow the usage of Mega Pokemon/Primal Pokemon's abilities, rather than code 5 or 6 different exceptions, instead of banning mons that can abuse abilities, which removes their potential outside of broken abilities.

Protean Manaphy is also something to be afraid of since it does still have Tail Glow (though that Bug typing is easily exploitable)
That just screams BAN to me, but I see what you mean by the exploit possibilities. It's speed tier is pretty decent, but could be better. Just leaving my thoughts here.

Thanks! If you want, I can do N-Z - I'll link to this post in the OP :]
If we wanna do an Aerilate ban then let's do it.
Aerilate + Noivern is now BANNED. People have been stating that it should be banned since the start of the thread, although I've disagreed most times I think it's safe to say that it's easier and better just to ban it outright. However, Noivern isn't ban-worthy on its own, and sets like Multiscale Noivern may be fun to use. Same with Aerilate - Aerilate Ninjask and Yanmega might be fun to use as well, and them obtaining Aerilate isn't anything ban worthy as Gale Wings Moltres is about. So thus, the combination is banned.
There's the matter of Primal Abilities and Delta Stream, and rather than ban mons that are strong with those abilities, I'd have those abilities banned.
Primodial Sea doesn't seem like anything particularly ban worthy, as only pure Water-types get it and they resist Fire anyway.
As for Desolate Land, there are only two users of it- Numel and Camerupt. Numel is no way a threat, and Desolate Land is removed once Camerupt Mega-Evolves and becomes more of a threat anyway, if I'm not mistaken.
Delta Stream still leave Pokemon like Dragonite, Salamence and Noivern with Dragon-type and Fairy-type weaknesses, and in Dragonite's case, loses Multiscale, a very, possibly more viable ability. I'll keep these abilities in the threat list for sure, but at my current thinking I won't ban them.

EDIT:

All pure ghosts get prankster (if it wasn't banned already), banette gets his beloved prankster pre-evo. He might not even need evo, he can be his annoying prankster self without taking a mega slot.
Welp, Prankster is already banned.

Just Kidding I'm First
Called it! Get that cancer out of here. basically 1.5 times as strong as hurricane noivern with no drawback... thank you for banning it

going back to mega ability bans, can we just name mega pokemon who shouldn't be allowed to share their ability? That would get the best of both worlds without removing them all completely.

Nominations for mega pokemon to be banned from sharing mega abilities:
Mega Charizard Y
Mega Salamence
Mega Rayquaza
Primal Kyogre
Primal Groudon
Mega Rayquaza

Minor but potential:
Mega Aggron
Mega Beedrill

at that point it becomes stupid to disallow transfer from these pokemon instead of banning case to case.

Mega Ray is on their twice, but Mega Salamence I can agree on. I might not want to ban it straight away, but good suggestion.

You wanna talk "banning case to case?"

That's the point of the nominations. Off the top of my head, those abilities transfer and have a lot of irksome potential.

Drought and Aerilate and Delta Stream are in my opinion, without a doubt, deserving a ban (as far as transfering from Zard Y to Fire Flying, from Mence to Dragon Flying, and from Quaza to Dragon Flying)

Sun boosted zard x tears through unaware mons without having to overpredict a switch-in. Flare Blitz does half, then it cleans up with outrage.
252 Atk Tough Claws Mega Charizard X Flare Blitz vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Unaware Gastrodon in Sun: 180-212 (42.2 - 49.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

252 Atk Tough Claws Mega Charizard X Outrage vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Unaware Gastrodon: 240-283 (56.3 - 66.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Altaria is probably the best bulky setup mon in terms of pre-evo cotton guard/dragon dance setups, then it megas and sweeps with its pixilate nonsense. Granted these calcs call for cotton guard, the fact remains it's bulky as all hell when it becomes solo dragon.
252 Atk Refrigerate Mega Glalie Return vs. +3 248 HP / 8 Def Altaria in Strong Winds: 172-208 (48.7 - 58.9%) -- 97.3% chance to 2HKO

252 Atk Life Orb Tyrantrum Stone Edge vs. +3 248 HP / 8 Def Altaria in Strong Winds: 86-104 (24.3 - 29.4%) -- 99.6% chance to 4HKO

252+ SpA Life Orb Teravolt Kyurem-B Ice Beam vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Altaria in Strong Winds: 270-328 (76.4 - 92.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

And best of all, Dragonite! The new Aerilate abuser!
+1 252+ Atk Life Orb Aerilate Dragonite Extreme Speed vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Cobalion: 224-265 (58 - 68.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

+1 252+ Atk Life Orb Aerilate Dragonite Extreme Speed vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Ferrothorn: 220-261 (62.6 - 74.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (if you don't wanna use Fire Punch, which ohkos)

252+ Atk Life Orb Aerilate Dragonite Extreme Speed vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Coba Berry Filter Parasect: 310-365 (95.6 - 112.6%) -- 75% chance to OHKO

SpartanMalice

Y'all jokers must be crazy
I think a ban of Aerilate would be so much simpler tbh, it's clearly a very broken ability due to the fact that Flying can be paired with a multitude of stab combos for perfect coverage, and if Mega Salamence was based for a minimal attack boost but nice defenses off a middling defensive typing - well, you know it's broken.

I see sun boosted Zard-X as a necessary evil. I propose just suspecting Drought and Drizzle, however.

It's been pretty much a week now, and thanks to AllJokesAside I think it's safe to say I should make a few more changes, but what do you think?
  • Archeops unban
  • Due to the amount of defensive threats in this meta, Archeops may be a viable option, and can be played around easily anyway if prepared for.
  • Dragon/Flying Aerilate ban or Aerilate in general ban
  • This may be easier than banning one specific Pokemon and one specific ability, as we know Dragonite is definately a threat. Banning Aerilate outright may be simpler, but prevents the use of non-ban-worthy Pokemon using it, such as Bug/Flying Pokemon.
  • Hard-Coded Abilities unban
  • The reason they are banned is only because they simply won't work on other Pokemon. But Pokemon like Doublade may appreciate Stance Change due to No Guard's negative effects.
  • What do you think?

Otherwise, here is a replay I had against AllJokesAside: http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/customgame-253840493
You can see he might know the meta better than I can, haha, but stall seems quite viable and very good if unprepared for. (There was another replay were I won because he was unprepared for manaphy, but I'll let that one slide)

  • Archeops unban
As far as archeops i say unban him because like you said there are a lot of defensive threats in this meta and archeops loses to them
  • Dragon/Flying Aerilate ban or Aerilate in general ban
For Aerilate only ban dragon/flying from using it we all know how dangerous dnite with aerilate espeed is just ask anyone what happened in aaa and mnm yeah plus some bug/flying types might appreciate aerilate like ninjask for example.
  • Hard-Coded Abilities unban
I agree on unbanning hard-coded abilities like stance change for example.

Contrary is a great ability, and thanks to Spinda all normal types get it. So here's a set I thought of.

Spinda powerz (Snorlax) @ Leftovers
Ability: Contrary
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Superpower
- Return
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
This is basically an improved Curselax, thanks to Superpower Snorlax can unleash large amounts of damage while raising it's Attack and Defense by one stage which helps Snorlax become quite bulky and an offensive powerhouse. Rest+Sleep Talk for healing but they can be replaced with more offensive moves if you don't want to do a RestTalk set. However you need to have Ghost types out of the way because this set can't touch them.
