Advance UnderUsed dates back to a time when tiering was determined very differently. A Pokemon was considered BorderLine not necessarily because it was banned from UU, but because it still had potential in OU. As a result, the BL list in Advance is huge - almost as large as the tier itself. But are all of these BL 'mons justified?

For Advance UnderUsed REVAMPED, we will be releasing a select few BL Pokemon into the tier. These were chosen because they looked like they might have a positive effect on the metagame, whether by balancing current powerhouses such as Kangaskhan or by adding something new to the tier.

How will the metagame change when Pokemon such as Armaldo and Slowbro are allowed? Will NFEs like Haunter and Vigoroth make a splash? Will anyone be able to break through Articuno stall? Find out in Advance UnderUsed REVAMPED!

Advance UnderUsed REVAMPED
The tour will be played under Advance UU rules, with the exception of these two changes. The following Borderline Pokemon are ALLOWED in this tour:

Arcanine, Armaldo, Articuno, Miltank, Regirock, Slowbro, Swellow, Typhlosion, Venusaur

In addition, NFEs (non-fully evolved Pokemon) are currently ALLOWED for this tour. However, Chansey is banned.

Arcanine:
Despite its excellent stats and ability, Arcanine struggles from a lack of a physical STAB and, unlike Entei, it does not have Calm Mind to boost its Fire attacks. That said, Intimidate is a rarity in Adv UU, and decent priority is always appreciated in a tier with several potent Endure + Reversal sweepers.
Armaldo:
Armaldo is almost perfectly suited to shake up the Adv UU metagame, with a typing and bulk that allows it to take on Kangaskahn and bulky Psychics such as Hypno. It is capable of running a utility set with Rapid Spin or RestTalk, or going offensive with Swords Dance and a powerful dual STAB. Will its Speed and weakness to common attacking types in the tier such as Water and Rock prove to be enough to keep this from being a dominant threat in UU?
Articuno:
Articuno was traditionally banned thanks to its absolutely monstrous defenses and excellent support movepool. Previously it was thought that with Articuno present, stall would be nearly unbreakable. However, the introduction of new Fire types such as Arcanine and Typhlosion as well as bulky Rock-types Regirock and Armaldo may prove to be enough to balance this legendary bird. Also, its lack of recovery outside of the unreliable Rest leaves it more vulnerable than before thanks to the recently discovered Sleep Talk mechanics.
Miltank
: Miltank has always seemed out of place on the BL list, kept there more because it potentially has use in OU than because of any unbalancing factor it might have in UU. That said it has excellent bulk, it provides access to the rare Heal Bell, and its Curse set is definitely a major threat.
Regirock: With the best physical bulk in the game and above-average Attack and Special bulk, Regirock on paper seems to be far too much for the tier. However, a limited offensive movepool and no reliable recovery limits this behemoth, as does its weakness to common moves from many of the physical attackers it is expected to check. Still, with stats this good it is unlikely that Regirock will prove to be a slouch even in this new more aggressive metagame.
Slowbro: Slowking's fatter cousin could easily become the premier bulky Water in Adv UU, putting other contenders such as Walrein and Blastoise out of a job. However, without recovery outside of Rest, Slowbro can struggle to consistently check threats throughout the game. It is also slower than some of the new threats introduced that a Water-type might be expected to check, such as Armaldo, which can hit Slowbro hard with strong Bug attacks.
Swellow: Swellow is insanely fast, but reliant on Guts to provide decent damage when compared to other Normal-types such as Kangaskahn and Granbull. While it probably outclasses Fearow, who is stronger but significantly slower and more susceptible to status, the addition of many new defensive threats should serve to keep this speed demon in check.
Typhlosion: Typhlosion threatens to usurp Ninetales as the premier offensive Fire-type in Advance UU, thanks to equivalent Speed and significantly better Special Attack. It also has access to an extremely dangerous special ability in Blaze, with Blaze Fire Blasts threatening to 2HKO even moderately bulky resists. It even has decent Attack, allowing it to sport things like Focus Punch or Earthquake to break through the likes of Miltank and Tentacruel. However, it lacks much of Ninetales' utility, as Ninetales carries far better Special bulk, a Fire-type immunity and access to the extremely rare Will-O-Wisp. Still, Typhlosion should keep things hot with its great mixed offenses and powerful Fire Blasts.
Venusaur: Excellent bulk and decent mixed offenses make Venusaur a great choice for balanced or offensive teams over the far more passive Vileplume or Meganium. However, Venusaur is unable to provide the Aromatherapy support that many rely upon Vileplume for, nor can it threaten to sweep with Sunny Day. That said, it should be a very interesting addition as a bulky attacker.
NFEs:
The ban of NFEs dates back to an old and mostly outdated method of tiering. Most NFEs, with the exception of Chansey, would hardly prove unbalanced in the tier, and some (such as Haunter and Trapinch) could potentially be welcome additions. The big question mark is Kadabra, whose excellent Speed and Special Attack marks it as a potentially potent threat. Will Kadabra prove unbalanced in this new revamped meta, or will strong Special walls such as Hypno and the newly-freed Articuno be enough to keep it in check?
