[SET]
name: SpecsTaria
move 1: Draco Meteor
move 2: Fire Blast
move 3: Dragon Pulse / Hidden Power Ground
move 4: Rest
item: Choice Specs
ability: Natural Cure
nature: Modest
evs: 192 HP / 252 SpA / 64 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

With NU's premier walls mostly being physically defensive, SpecsTaria is here to punish the tier for its lack of Steel-types and dedicated special walls. With just Draco Meteor and Dragon Pulse, Altaria is already wielding virtually unresisted coverage under its fluffy wings, and with the addition of Fire Blast it can hit every single Pokemon in NU for at least neutral damage. Even with an unimpressive base 70 Special Attack stat, Choice Specs makes Altaria deceptively strong and very difficult to switch into, while Altaria itself is capable of switching in many times thanks to its excellent Dragon / Flying typing and well-rounded 75 / 90 / 105 base defenses. Another key trait of this set is its surprise factor, as many opponents will switch their Tangela, Weezing, or Quagsire into Altaria expecting a Dragon Dance, only to be obliterated by Draco Meteor. Those three Pokemon aren't the only ones that SpecsTaria can safely switch into, as its bulk and typing lets it come in on a myriad of threats, such as Gurdurr, Duosion, Exeggutor, Sawk, Magmortar, Misdreavus, Samurott, Torterra, Vileplume, Garbodor, and many more, to unleash a powerful Draco Meteor, crippling or even OHKOing them.

SpecsTaria's ability to not only lure in and beat its usual counters in one move, but countering them, ridding the field of the physical walls who might plague your teammates, and tearing teams apart in general, is why this set works wonders. However, not everything is fun and rainbows for our fellow Chinese bird of legend, as there are a couple of things that cloud its path to victory. Stealth Rock for one is easy to set up due to NU's lack of reliable Rapid Spin users and hampers Altaria's ability to continuously switch in. While its typing is generally brilliant, it leaves Altaria open to the common Rock- and Ice-type attacks thrown around in NU. Despite these shortcomings, SpecsTaria can still soar through the skies of NU with the proper support; a Rapid Spin user such as Cryogonal, or a Rock- and Ice-type resistor such as Probopass (who can use Stealth Rock) can aid Altaria in its quest for cloudy destruction. To showcase just how strong SpecsTaria is, here are some damage calculations to demonstrate its power:

Draco Meteor vs. 252/4 Tangela 101.5% - 119.5%

Draco Meteor vs. 252/4 Weezing 100% - 118%

Draco Meteor vs. 252/4 Quagsire 89.5% - 105.8%

Draco Meteor vs. 4/0 Samurott 101.2% - 119.3%

Draco Meteor vs. 252/0 Eviolite Gurdurr 77.3% - 91.4%

Draco Meteor vs. 252/4 Regirock 68.7% - 81%

Fire Blast vs. 132/0 Exeggutor 112.1% - 131.9%

Fire Blast vs. 252/0 Vileplume 88.7% - 104.5%

Fire Blast vs. 252/4 Eviolite Metang 71% - 84%

Hidden Power Ground vs. 252/252+ Probopass 55.6% - 66.7%

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

The EV spread allows Altaria to hit as hard as possible and be able to tank hits very well while dishing them out. Altaria can use Rest to restore its HP and status, which enables it to switch in and out, bombing the opposing field with Draco Meteor repeatedly even if Stealth Rock is up. Rest works extremely well in conjunction with Altaria's Natural Cure ability, which cures its sleep status upon switching out. 64 Speed EVs allow Altaria to outspeed Adamant Torterra, whose attacks—bar Stone Edge—are all ineffective against Altaria, and unleash a Fire Blast to roast it. Alternatively, Altaria can use Ice Beam instead of Dragon Pulse or Hidden Power Ground for Pokemon such as Torterra and Drifblim, and is useful when you need a powerful attack that doesn't cut Altaria's Special Attack.

SpecsTaria absolutely loves entry hazard support, as with a little extra damage, Altaria can secure a KO on foes that would survive the hit otherwise, such as Regirock, Gurdurr, and Quagsire. Rock-type Pokemon such as Golem, Gigalith, Regirock, Probopass, and Bastiodon synergize well with Altaria and can set up Stealth Rock to assist it. If using Dragon Pulse instead of Hidden Power Ground SpecsTaria will be walled easily by Probopass, Bastiodon, and Lairon. Therefore pairing it up with Golem or Marowak is recommended, as they defeat the aforementioned Pokemon and also supply Altaria with Stealth Rock support. Garbodor can provide both Spikes and Toxic Spikes and can even help take down Altaria's counters. Another plus is that Altaria can switch into the Ground- and Psychic-type moves aimed at Garbodor and retaliate with Draco Meteor. The Pokemon that can take on SpecsTaria, such as Lickilicky, Hypno, Cradily, and Gardevoir, are easily beat by Absol and Choice Band Torterra. Both Pokemon are very powerful in their own right, and together with SpecsTaria they can blast holes in the opponent's team easily.

Mention hazard support in AC, since it makes a lot of KOes that are uncertain much easier once they're on the field. Otherwise from that this looks like a solid skeleton, gj!

Thanks you very much Geo :). Yeah I'll go right ahead and mention hazards in AC and hazard setters on teammates section.
EDIT: Done ^_^

Banned deucer.
Is Dragon Pulse any worthwile somewhere? I mean, it's a reliable STAB move and etc etc, and it's not like Bastiodon or Lairon (Probopass is though) are very common so it might deserve a slash or something. I mean, if it's not weak as fuck though.

Btw, what is this:
EVIOLITE Lairon - 119% - 141% (Ability | 83.6 | Rock Head :] )--?

Oh yeah, I forgot to put down Dragon Pulse, I think I can slash it with HP Ground, and say that if using Pulse to team up with Ground-types like Golem or Marowak.

The showing of Lairon mostly using Rock Head is to say that Specstaria can OHKO it most of the time as Sturdy isn't as popular on it. Most of that list was c/p'd from my comment on the NU Round 2 thread so I'll just remove that.

Taking Chris's and Destiny's advice on Dpulse > HP Ground. Probopass is easier to deal with Teammates than by trying to get a surprise Hp Ground.

Thanks Ice-eyes, I'll get to writing it up soon. Should I put some of the damage calculations in AC, if so which ones and in what format?

If you want calcs in your analysis, use this format (example calcs):

Close Combat vs. 252/252+ Skarmory 84.4% - 99.7%

Close Combat vs. 252/0+ Skarmory 101.5% - 119.5%

The first number is the amount of HP EVs the opponent has.
The second number is the amount of (in your case) Special Defense EVs the opponent has.
Add a plus behind the numbers, as seen above, if the opponent has a beneficial nature. Leave it be if it has a neutral one.

And since it has Rest in the last slot, I guess Natural Cure is the preferred ability, so add an "ability tag" (ability: Natural Cure).

Sorry for the inconvenience, I couldn't find information on how exactly to do it and was kind of dumbfounded when seeing he Porygon2 analysis on-site have the HP and SpD on it so I went with it.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

This The EV spread allows Altaria to hit as hard as possible and be able to tank hits very well while dishing them out. Rest allows Altaria to live longer, making the most out of its bulk and allows it to repeatably switch-in even in the face of Stealth Rock and lets Altaria unleash more Draco Meteor than it would normally be limited to due to Stealth Rock and its role as a pivot Altaria can use Rest to restore its HP and status, which enables it to switch in and out, bombing the opposing field with Draco Meteor repeatedly even if Stealth Rock is up. Rest also works extremely well in conjunction with Altaria's ability, Natural Cure ability, which cures status upon switching out, giving Altaria a reliable 100% recovery move that lets it wreak more havoc after coming back in its sleep status upon switching out. 64 Speed EVs allow Altaria to outspeed Adamant Torterra, allowing it do come in its STABs and all of its coverage moves barring whose attacks are all ineffective against Altaria except Stone Edge, and unleash a Fire Blast to roast it, while still being able to outspeed slower Tanks such as Golem and Marowak to beat them before they harm your team with their powerful attacks, great coverage, and access to Stealth Rock. Altaria can even use Ice Beam over Dragon Pulse or Hidden Power Ground to have another powerful move capable of hitting Pokemon like Max HP Torterra and Drifblim harder without having to deal with Draco Meteor's Special Attack drops.Alternatively, Altaria can use Ice Beam instead of Dragon Pulse or Hidden Power Ground for Pokemon such as Torterra and Drifblim, and is useful when you need a powerful attack that doesn't cut Altaria's Special Attack.

SpecsTaria absolutely loves hazards entry hazard support(Comma) in the form or Stealth Rock, Spikes, and/or Toxic Spikes to OHKO many of the mentioned Pokemon more reliably and make even resists or counters slowly wore down, allowing for a successive Draco Meteor to take them down as with a little extra damage, Altaria can secure a KO on foes that would survive the hit otherwise, such as Regirock, Gurdurr, and Quagsire. Rock-type Pokemon such as Golem, Gigalith, Regirock, Probopass, and Bastiodon synergize well with Altaria's Dragon / Flying typing and can set-up set up Stealth Rock to assist Altaria it. If using Dragon Pulse over instead of Hidden Power Ground SpecsTaria gets will be walled easily by Probopass, Bastiodon, and Lairon(Period) therefore Therefore(Comma) pairing it up with Golem and or Marowak is recommended(Comma) to relief this problem as they can both defeat Probopass, Bastiodon, and Lairon the aforementioned Pokemon and can also supply Altaria with Stealth Rock support. Garbodor can provides both Spikes and Toxic Spikes for Altaria to apply more pressure on the opponent with its powerful attacks and can even help take down its Altaria's counters. Another plus is that Altaria can switch into the Ground- and Psychic-type moves aimed at Garbodor and retaliate with a Draco Meteor. The Pokemon that can take on SpecsTaria(Comma) such as Lickilicky, Hypno, Cradily, and Gardevoir(Comma) are beat easily beat by Absol and Choice Band Torterra. Both Pokemon are very powerful in their own right(Comma) and together with SpecsTaria open they can blast holes in the opponent's teams easily.

[Checks and Counters]

SpecsTaria is countered by bulky Pokemon with reliable recovery such as Lickilicky, Hypno, specially defensive Cradily, and Gardevoir. If not using Hidden Power Ground the list increases with the addition of Lairon, Probopass, and Bastiodon who resist Draco Meteor and and good special bulk to take many Specs boosted Fire Blasts.

(You don't need a Check and Counters section for a single set. This will be added to the existing Altaria analysis, which already has one.)
