Anime and Manga: Beware of Spoilers!

I am always tired. Don't bother me.
Seconding Raikage's sentiments. I really enjoyed watching it. It made me feel nostalgic of Bakemonogatari. It retains a good bit of humor, and although there was lack of Senjogahara (as expected of a prequel), there were still many memorable moments.

medaka box is an unconventional battle manga. i only read the manga but sometimes ill catch a few episodes of the anime. every chapter is amazing and i am never disappointed each week.
(
medaka box is unconventional like you know a fucking god damn thing about anything

Nekomonogatari was pretty weak. It's like the writer realized that Araragi getting beaten up in a fight doesn't create any tension because he's immortal, so he just decided "Okay, just make him get beat up harder!" (Shinobu showing up and fixing his problems for him is getting old too). Random elements showing up out of nowhere like Tsubasa being an exorcism expert somehow or Shinobu just happening to have a sword that can cut the monster while leaving Tsubasa unharmed (but not giving it to Meme for some reason) don't help either, and the conversations were on the weak side too.

Actually I think it might even be a little worse than Nisemonogatari, because while the latter turned into a complete snoozefest at times it also had the segments with Kaiki which was some of the best stuff in either season. I'm hoping the series still has some life left in it because it'll probably get sequels to infinity but it's not looking good atm.

Hate to revive this thread but I have recently gotten back into reading Manga (it's been a few years... x.x). So here's my request:

Please give me some manga to work with. Most of what I read about in this thread I have either little interest in (such as Naruto, Bleach, OP, etc) or stuff I plan on reading (Liar's Game, I dunno.........).

So yeah.

Also since the season's pretty much over I will say that:

Zetsuen no Tempest was amazing. Please do yourself a favor and watch it. It's one of the few solid gems out there. I'd give it 10/10 in my books mainly due to the fact that the storyline is so damn good and the writer did a fantastic job at covering any plotholes.

Mondaijitachi ga Isekai Kara Kuru Sou Desu yo was also amazing. The main character is just too badass to handle. I suppose some people won't like how the anime plays out and how some characters are a tad cliche, but GAWD DAMM is Izayoi OP. I'm excited for the OVA that's coming out this summer. Most likely going to be getting another season too. I can't seem to find the Manga on my phone, but I'll probably be looking for it on my comp when I get the chance.

Robotics;Notes doesn't necessarily live up to the hype that Steins;Gate managed to conjure, but it still is good. My only gripe is how short the ending is and how it feels like they left a lot of plot-holes unchecked.

Spring-Summer season anime:

Attack on Titan: Watched the first episode. So far it's been a cockbreaker. The show pretty much says "I'm gory and a bloody mess, and while I'm not giving a shit have fun watching the Main character's mom getting eaten alive. (spoilers in white) Show's about giants who attack humans who are fighting for their lives in a world where giants are prevalent and they prey on human beings.

Date A Live: Wtf. I don't get this anime one bit. It seems like another harem...only 2 ep in and I'm getting a bad taste already...(anyone who read the manga please tell me it gets better, otherwise I'm dropping this one if it doesn't change in 2 ep)

Devil Survivor 2 The Animation: I haven't actually touched this game but I have it on my Acekard. I plan on watching it because I lack the effort to put time into this game (as well as actual time in general).

Karneval: Ep 2 has just come out but I haven't watched it yet since it's still raw. First episode was definitely interesting but I still don't quite understand what's going on. Hopefully it'll make more sense as the show goes on.

Red Data Girl: 4 episodes in. It's an okay anime about a girl who disables any modern electronic device she comes into contact with...partly because she has an ancient spirit residing in her.

Suisei no Gargantia: Not sure how this will play out but so far it's been interesting. It definitely gives me Gurren Lagann vibes but only in the sense that it's a SciFi Mecha anime. The main character seems rather bland tho...

Anyways yeah. I NEED MANGA SUGGESTIONS PLS THROW THEM AT ME.

Tower of God is a pretty good manhwa / webcomic (think Noblesse, color too :D). Also there's Breaker and King of Hell (more manhwa .-.)

Are you looking for anything in particular?

Attack on Titan - You watched it sooo...yea the manga is awesome as well :D
Akame ga Kiru - Thread on the manga
Kiwaguro no Brynhildr - from the creator of Elfen Lied if you ever watched/heard of it. Similar 'brutality,' human experiments, etc...
World Embryo - Story and feel similar to Guilty Crown, but better imo.
Denpa Kyoushi - 'Less mature' GTO, with a (otaku) teacher that helps/teaches lessons in creative and awesome ways.
Watashitachi no Shiawase na Jikan- Very touching manga (imo) about a prisoner on death row, and a suicidal woman who begin to change their outlook on life after meeting and talking over a span of time.

Also, I totally agree on Zetsuen no Tempest. One of my favorites last season, although the ending was a bit frustrating hahaha. Mondaiji was just good for me for the reasons you stated.

Date A Live's manga got cancelled due to the health of the mangaka, so it pretty much caught up with the manga already. From what I've heard of the novel however, it's actually really nice. Which part don't you get? I can try to explain it.

I'm loving the spring season so far! Lot's of anime's with a great start. I hope they keep it up throughout the series.

My favorite ones so far (somewhat in order):

Attack on Titan
Hataraku Maou-sama
Suisei no Gargantia
OreGairu
OreImo S2

EDIT:
Seconding Aku no Hana below! Cannot believe I forgot about that.

i dont know what manga youre looking for so ill just throw out some stuff ive enjoyed and think you may like and havent seen many people talk about

onepunch-man: "Follows the life of an average hero who manages to win all battles with only one punch. This ability seems to frustrate him as he no longer feels the thrill and adrenaline of fighting a tough battle, which leads to him questioning his past desire of being strong. "
its a jump comic thats a comedy. very funny and very not wordy. you should be able to fly through the series to get up to date.

aku no hana: "Kusuga-kun steals a pair gym clothes of the girl he likes, the next day the girl that sits behind him reveals that she saw everything. Now if he doesn't form a "contract" with her, she is going to tell."
its kind of the dark side of slice of life, its perverted and weird, but not sexual. the psychology of the characters is what keeps you interested.

Bio Meat: "Man is having a hard time finding food and getting rid of their trash, so science comes up with a bio-engineered animal that survives by eating trash, and is then killed to feed humanity. But the self-replicating, endlessly hungry killing machine gets loose in Tokyo... "
a survival horror based around a group of kids in 3 acts (pre-teens, teens, late teens). this manga is complete~

last inning: "Hatogaya, a man who loved baseball and yet left it, is set up to take the fall for his company and gets sent to prison. A high-school principal and his former coach--whose school is about to lose its baseball program--bails Hatogaya out. But, in exchange for getting him out of jail, he has to coach the schools not-so-great baseball team. "
sports manga where smarts trump action~

nana to kaoru: "Kaoru is a 17-year old virgin who has a SM fetish. He always dreams about a SM relationship with his childhood friend Nana. One day Kaoru's mom decides to hide all his SM toys so he'll study for a change, by asking Nana to hide his toys. Nana finds the leather one-piece that Kaoru bought and tries it on but she accidentally locks it and doesn't have the key!"
sexy and sweet~ also check out nana to kaoru: black label after youve read the main series (up to date) for a side story.

sun-ken rock: "Ken, a young Japanese guy, is in love with a young Korean girl Yumin. He followed her in Korea and wants to become a policeman just like her. But then, he finds himself at the head of a local gang. What will happen to Ken?"
a battle manga revolved around being in the mafia. more mature (but with comedy elements) than the usual jump fare

aiki: "There is fighting at the high school due to a power struggle for control. The granddaughter of the chief director requests help from the Aikido fighting style genius. Will he help? Or will he show his true colors with his bad boy ways? "
same as sun-ken rock, but a lot more comedy

lost+brain: "High school student Hirama Ren hates his life. One day, he shoves aside a group of bullies, who decide to get even with him. They beat up some of his classmates and lay the blame on Hirama. Enraged, Hirama decides to create a world where he lived alone, without anybody getting in his way. The next day, the student council sets up a magic show where the magician uses hypnosis on the audience. Observing his tactics, Hirama finally knows how to achieve the goal he wants...and he will not let anyone stand in his way."
kinda like death note but ends when it needs to.

cage of eden: "Akira and his classmates are traveling on a plane when it crashes onto an island inhabited by species thought to have been extinct. The situation becomes increasingly desperate as some of Akira's classmates are eaten alive, while some kill others in desperation. Now Akira and a few other survivors are trying to survive what seems to be a horrible nightmare."
an adventure/survival shonen manga. its also complete~

mousou shoujo otakukei: "It's a romantic comedy about a quadrangle of two fujoshi (i.e. otome, female otaku) and two straight (though very bishounen) guys. The story is about a fangirl who tries to hide her otaku fetishes, while having lots of yaoi daydreams about the boys in her class."
also know as fujoshi rumi, im only throwing this on here cause i scanned/uploaded it all. its also complete~

black joke: "Japan is now the 51st state of the U.S.A.. The isle of Neon, located near Japan, is the only place where prostitution and gambling are legal. There, Italian Mafia, Chinese Triad and Yakuza fight each other to gain the control of casinos and brothels."
very graphic violence :x

i am a hero: "Hideo Suzuki is a thirty-five year old mangaka assistant struggling to be the hero in his own life by breaking back into the lime light with a new serial all the while juggling his relationship with his girlfriend and his own delusions. However, as hard as Hideo may try, the world seems to have a different set of plans for him; sinister and dark machinations that completely overturn his reality as he knows it. "
its about zombies.

silver spoon: "A young boy named Yugo Hachiken apparently aspire to live separated from his family. So he took the chance by enrolling in an agriculture school, one which required its students to live at dormitory. He thinks, with his talent in studying, no problem will arise no matter what kind of school he goes to. But he's proven wrong. Grown up as all-easy-to-get city boy, he is forced to uncover not-too-convenient truth about agricultural life. Enjoy the story of Hachiken, as he trying to keep up with his friends, farmers' heirs who are already accustomed to hardworking farm life. "

suicide island: "Treating non-successful suicidal patients requires a lot of money and resources. With low budget and a personal respect argumentation, a doctor will ask a non-successful suicidal patient if he/she still wants to live on or not. If not the government will respect his/her wish. However, the government doesn't just simply kill them."
who knew putting a bunch of suicidal people on a lawless island could be a good thing (for some...).

Yeah that's a large quantity of manga XD

Thanks a bunch guys, I think I can pick and choose from here as to what interests me. You all gave me quite a few to work with (I'm pretty much open to any genre except sports genre...)

And I am still up for more if you do have any! I just have a giant bucket list to work with now~

Also Aku no Hana got an anime this season so I might check it out now!! :)

I'm actually with you on the anything but sports genre XD

Good luck with Aku no Hana....I was personally quite disappointed for obvious reasons. Call me close-minded but there's no way I can get past:

Props if that does not bother you though! I may watch it on certain parts to see how it compares to the manga.

Aku no Hana's anime is, well...it's not really an anime so much as it is a rotoscoped 3D animation. I'm not really familiar with rotoscoping but Aku no Hana's looks like this; detail fades in and out and the movements are really jerky, it's pretty much a mess.

As far as notable stuff this season goes, Valvrave is some crazy all over the place mecha with vague Code Geass vibes, Suisei no Gargantia is looking to be show of the season, and Yahari/Oregairu/SNAFU/whatever, Shingeki no Kyojin, and Hataraku Maou-sama are all looking good.

I was actually very excited for the 'anime' adaptation of Aku no Hana after enjoying the manga a great deal. From what I've read about an interview with the director on the art style, he said it was intentional and that he discussed it with AnH's author who agreed with it...

Ah well, I guess I'll just stick to the manga.

Suisei no Gargantia seems sorta like Full Metal Panic! with maybe a more serious/possibly better story at the cost of seemingly less interesting characters (especially in the main character department).

Also, Mondaiji Tachi was excellent only flaws were that it was too short imo, and the Gary Stu main character would cause problems if you were dumb enough to take the show seriously. Robotics;Notes had some decent moments and really nice animation+music, but the story and characters just don't compare to Steins;Gate. I would at least rate it above Chaos;Head, which was a complete train wreck that really misrepresented its source material.

Well, just to contribute I must absolutely list

www.animecrazy.net

I usually get off on torrents and stuff but I must absolutely recommend this to you because of their top notch loading times (good if you're stuck with low speed/ limited internet) and speedy uploads of all the ongoing anime and archived older ones. This is my anime viewing tool of choice while travelling, in inconvenient places..

Anime watchlist:

Hataraku Maou-sama is the anime of this season imo. Lot of humor, and it's a rare example of the Anime exceeding the novel in terms of execution.

Karneval is interesting as well, it has a mysterious air to it behind this kid that seems to be wanted by every organization. Nothing spectacular unless some more developments happen since right now it's hard to determine what's going on but it's on my watchlist at least.

The others on my watchlist are Oreimo S2 (The show itself isn't amazing, but Oreimo followers will be Oreimo followers regardless) and Date A Live (which is so far a tragedy compared to the Light Novels).

And admit it, we only watched Mondaiji for Black Rabbit. Anything else with the anime I could care less about lol. She's just so cute and teaseable. This series has light novels as well. Tried reading them but without the voice actor behind Black Rabbit it just isn't the same.

On the maybe list for this season is Yahari (which I feel like is going to be an inferior Hataraku, Hataraku pretty much eliminated me watching anything that is romcom+school life). Have no interest in anything else for this season but I suppose it is a much better season compared to the last two.

Steins;Gate movie, P3 movie (feat. Makoto Yuki) and danganronpa anime are the only things i'm looking forward to atm...

I'm currently starting Doubt, and it's REALLY good. It's scaring the crap out of me and I'm reading at a breakneck speed. Also, I just finished Fairy Tail (or at least caught up) and I love it. Madoka is pretty good as well.

This this this. Everything else is just a distraction. P3 is getting 4, maybe 5 movies and if minato makoto gets half the badassery yu got in p4a, it wil live up to expectations and more. However, danganronpa is confirmed (I think) to be 13 30 minute episodes long, and there's no way they can give every character fair devoplment with that little time. Im still Super High School Level Hyped for it though- DR's fan translation is 99% done and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

You mean, the fan translation for the first psp game?

Yeah. Look up project zetsubou (can't link on my phone). I think you'll need a hacked psp to play it, so I'm going to have to buy one.

I believe there's too much hate on Aku no Hana anime adaptation.
The girls might be awful indeed, but the setting is impressive, it transmits the dense atmosphere of the manga perfectly. And well it's something that I'd watch because of the plot, not because of cute girls lol.
Of course it could be better by simply being a standard animation, but I'm not dropping it. I just hope they don't fuck up with the ending... I mean, they're animating only the first arc, methinks.

^ I agree there is excessive hate one it.

I'm trying my utter best to keep an open mind and watching it for the plot like you. I'll probably give it another couple episodes to see how they carry out certain scenes that should be appearing soon.

Really wish it looked like this though hahaha:

On another note, I highly doubt I'll get any answers but...do any of you have any idea where these might be from?

so can anyone recommend me horror mangas like

Higurashi
Umineko
Another
Ibitsu

and the likes? I especially love the Higurashi and Umineko series but I don't think that there is anything remotely similar to that.

wow no jojo's bizarre adventure, what is this.

i shouldn't have to tell ya what it is, a mega influential + popular series that's been running for 25 years now in 8 parts (8 is still a couple years from being done) inititially inspired by Hokuto No Ken (fist of the north star) but came into its own soon enough. my all-time favorite shonen anything.
the tl;dr i give to casual anime fans + outsiders is "dbz if it was actually good".

part 1 + 2 finished airing a couple weeks ago and it was incredible, very very faithful to the manga. part 3 is gonna air in...i think the winter some time b/c the studio is doing an anime for the horrible game neptunia. much better than any media i've seen adapt jojo. there was an ova for part 1 that didn't even have speedwagon.

part 3 is part pleb because it's the most popular, but arguably the weakest due to plot pacing + publisher demands of length and appeal to typical shonen fans. but hey, maybe the anime will fix that some. it's still good compared to a lot of manga + anime. i hope they'll do part 4 at the least, and at the most all 8 parts.

it's all tied in to the upcoming fighting game (character design spoilers) which looks fucking incredible + keeps all the VAs from the anime.

e: okay there were a couple posts but not nearly enough i m h o

Aku no Hana's anime being bad isn't because no cute girls, it's bad because it looks like absolute garbage in motion.

also yeah JJBA is fantastic, probably my favorite show of 2012, followed closely by Fate/Zero, and not so closely by Shin Sekai Yori and Jinrui wa Suitai. I've liked the JoJo manga for a long time and seeing it get a good adaption (more in terms of direction than budget, though that will hopefully improve with part 3) that actually improves on the manga was really nice.
