Bring 4, Pick 3 Singles. You PM 4 pokemons to the ref from your profile, but the battle will be 3vs3 singles. You will choose and send out your mons as the battle develops.
ASB Arena
Strict 72h Disqualification.
One warning per player. First warning (any tag after DQ interval is passed) resets the timer. If the player passes DQ interval a second time, DQ can be called, giving the player one hour to post (with full orders/pokemon, just saying "orders coming watch this space" doesn't suffice) after DQ is called to rescind it. If one hour passes, the player is DQ'd regardless of the ref posting or not. User calling DQ must tag DQ'd player. Referees please tag the combatants when you have finished your reffing. Players, if you know you're going to be away you better post a Leave of Absence BEFORE you leave, or give a very good reason in case of an emergency. DQ time won't pass during a valid LoA. I will say this only once: don't test me
75 days Time Limit: After 75 days I reserve the right to forcibly end any matches that don't seem like ending anytime soon. Said matches will be judged by the voters. This Time Limit ends at June 9th.
Infinite Recoveries/Chills per Pokémon.
Three Substitutions per player excluding KO Substitutions.
One Mega Evolution
Switch = OK
Abilities = ALL
Items = ON.
Arena: ASB Tournament Arena
Ubers Rule:
Mewtwo and Victini may be used in battle, but they will take up the mega slot of the player. Other pokemon may be included in this list as the tournament progresses.

Modest (+1 SpA, -1 Atk)

[Type]
Fire / Poison

Fire STAB; immune to burn status. Brighten Command.

Poison STAB; immunity to Poison/Toxic status. Absorb Toxic Spikes on switch-in unless Flying-typed or using the ability Levitate. -- Accuracy when using Toxic, Poison Gas, or Poison Powder, hitting even during Dig, Fly, etc. Ignore Fog's accuracy reduction. Store Command.

Dry Skin / Illuminate

Dry Skin
(Passive, Mold Breaker affects - No)

The Pokemon absorbs the damage of water attacks and recovers 25% of HP the damage that would have been inflicted.

Illuminate (✓) (UnLocked)
(Toggle, Mold Breaker affects - No)
At default this Pokemon emits a continuous light that brightens the environment and makes it easier for all Pokemon to see. Boosts from multiple Illuminates do not stack. When toggled, no effect.

Sludge Wave ~ Sludge Bomb ~ Sludge Wave

IF Azumaill uses a D/E move, AND without suspense, AND is in the evasive stage of the move, THEN use COMBO (Sludge Bomb + Sludge Bomb) on the first instance, Stealth Rock on the second instance and restart the queue each time.

IF Damaging Ground Type Move is used, AND your adjusted speed is greater than Azumarill that action, THEN use Command [Activate Eject Button] (Avoid the attack) Acid Armor on the first instance, use Stealth Rock on the following action and restart the queue.

IF Azumarill uses rest, AND Azumarill is not behind a substitute that action, THEN use COMBO (Sludge Wave + Sludge Wave) on the first instance, and restart the queue.

Okay, before I order there is no god damned way that second substitution can be legal. It's pretty much IF xx THEN yy AND replace this sub with IF cc THEN vv. No chance. jayelt413 @ anyoneelse can you confirm?

EDIT: second non-KO substitution to clarify

Hmm.

The Handbook has no explicit ruling on this type of substitution. However, you are allowed to tamper with substitutions and the contents of them as per the current rules. My opinion would say that it is a legal substitution, considering that you can replace portions of a substitution with other words/moves via your current substitutions.

However, I am going to tag Frosty and Dogfish44 to come here and give their opinions.

Substitutions Interaction

It is possible for a Substitution to interact with other substitutions, whether as a kind of chance clause, or as the Action Clause. So clauses like the below are acceptable:

If Magmortar's second substitution is to be activated THEN ...
If Chansey's first substitution activates for the second time THEN ...
If Rain Dance AND Eelektross's first substitution doesn't activate THEN ...'
If (...) THEN Disregard Aipom's first sub
If (...) THEN Rain Dance AND Replace Thunderbolt on the first sub with Thunder
If (...) THEN (...) AND Replace all instances of Hyper Voice with Surf, including on substitutions
I think our substitution interactions rules are, shall we say, bloody stupid, but under current rules they hold up? There might be an argument to be made that none of the examples explicitly allow for the changing of the "IF X" clause, but there's none which explicitly don't, either. As it stands, legal.

All of those examples change the result of the sub, none change the trigger. To the best I can find there is no example of being able to change the trigger of the substitution. The second last example in Dogfish's quote is ambiguous since there is no context to the "Thunderbolt" instance it refers to. Regardless of what convoluted way Gale has tried to write it he is trying to sub for Damaging Ground typed move and Damaging Ground typed combination with two different results in the one sub. That's two triggers, two results, two substitutions. Any explanation other than this is ludicrous.

deadfox is right.

I wrote that part mind you and the intention was to change only the end result, not the trigger of the sub. And before you open your mouth to say that "what is important are the 'bloody stupid' rules written" lemme fetch you some context. That specific part was included back on the age where the only viable sub-related things you could do were the ones said explicitly on the text. If you check the votings, you will see that the sub interaction part (first vote of the thread) predates the change on condition subs (last vote) which was our first rule allowing other kinds of triggers (of anything really). Before that change, it was crystal clear that you could only do what the rules specifically allows you to. Like many other things in ASB, the other rules changed and we never bothered to update stuff, hoping that people will still abide by the old interpretations instead of pushing the envelope a bit too much. Although we are to blame for expecting that to happen, really.

To give you an idea: one of the reasons why I proposed that change was because iar once nulled a sub of mine because "disregard sub X" wasn't a valid action clause. Something that under new rules would be pretty easy to accept, given that now we aren't as harsh on what can and can't be done as on the time the interaction rules ere created.

Long story short: changes in triggers aren't listed by design. And thus aren't supposed to be allowed.

That is my ruling on the matter.

Deadfox, at any particular instance only one sub would exist.

---------

There is no change in design. A sub is disregarded / discarded and another sub takes its place.

Frosty said:
For more complex subs, there isn't any way to replace "disregard this sub" and "replace X with Y on the first substitution". Not with 100% equivalency. If you want I can show that.

First-to-order is a very big disadvantage and that is due to our sub rules. If the problem were it being abusable, then ok. But if the issue you have is with it being complicated, then I really question that. "Disregard this sub" is being proposed to simplify the extremely complicated subs you would use to replace that, same with the replace stuff.

The other option is not allowing those subs at all, and that only increases the problem with first-to-order disadvantage. Games should be won on skill, not on who was lucky enough to order last first.
The thing is, are we planning to show case level of skill here. Or are we planning to show case classic plays?

As far as the battle is concerned, my focus is to fulfill the requirements more than winning. If that sub would be treated as illegal, and deadfox wants to order then please go ahead.

Have you not just proven my point here? You are attempting to use one of your 3 substitution slots to result in two different substitutions. Regardless of whether they will both appear at the same time you have just said in black and white they are two different subs

so Frosty since it isn't crystal clear to me yet (as the ref), is the substitution in question: a) illegal, b) two substitutions, or c) allowed as is?

EDIT: I think this is how it goes, considering that Anti-Pedant is a thing here.

20:51:16<+Zt> That is stupid.
20:51:24<Skyla> otherwise id be reffing yet another fucking policy conundrum
20:51:29<+Zt> IF Damaging Ground Type Move is used, AND without suspense, THEN use Acid Armor on the first instance, restart the queue.
20:51:31<Skyla> how tf does that keep happening to me
20:51:50<Skyla> yeah deadfox could abuse that
20:51:58<+Zt> IF Damaging Ground Type Combo is used, AND used without suspense before, THEN Protect and restart queue.
20:52:02<+Zt> Two subs.

Thus, if anti-pedant actually works here, then the substitution could be made perfectly legal with the same logic, just two subs instead of one. Right?

it is a syntax mistake, so it can be anti-pedant into two subs, but only if that fixes the problem. Since it doesn't, anti-pedant doesn't activate and the sub is ignored entirely.

Also, give Gale Wing Srock a chance to reorder. Actually consider this me doing so. You have 48h.

And let me be clear: If your definition of thinking outside the box is thinking outside the rulebook, then I suggest you revisit that. If you feel that this kind of maneuver should be allowed, then by all means propose it on feedback and we will vote and reach a decision and then it shall become a rule, or an allowed possibility. If your "clever playing" is not following the rules agreed upon by the community, then I am sorry to say that, but that ain't smart playing, that is just rule-breaking. There is a very important difference here. I am positive many people here (#ib4someonementionsatheno) are more than capable of being very creative outside the rules, although I truly wonder if that is something to be proud of.

I think its a difference of perception. I see it feasible within the present rules, and Dogfish didn't find anything that was against the rules in the sub. That is the reason I tried it.

Rule-breaking was never the intention. Will change orders and tag Deadfox.
