The ASB Tournament Arena

Surrounded by thousands of screaming Pokemon fans, the ASB Arena can be best described as a standard Pokemon battling arena. In the center of the arena lies a dirt-based floor outlined to show two separate sides (with a white Pokeball center). Surrounding the dirt is a moat filled with water. The moat is about fifteen feet wide and creates a perimeter around the dirt arena. The arena itself is eighty feet wide, one hundred feet long. All moves, weathers, and abilities are legal for the match, since it's an outdoor arena with a large water source and packed dirt. Pokemon must stay in the arena (or the dimensions of the arena in the case of Flying Pokemon, who cannot leave the arena and cannot fly higher than sixty feet). This prevents Pokemon from injuring the crowd watching the tournament. There are no outside interruptions by fans, Pokemon, or other elements not associated with the current battle.

BATTLE: ON!

Laharl and Lenneth cautiously walk into the ASB Arena, seeing their opponent waiting for them on the the other half.

"Here we are, Lenneth. The ASB Tournament. Do you hear the cheers of those fans?"

"No."

"That's because there are none... yet. But give it some time, sister. We may garner a following if we manage to win this!"

"Which one of us shall go first? My Toxicroak or your Honchkrow?"

"I'll take that honor (or inconvenience.) Eclipse the Honchkrow, go!"

"Oh, always the gallant warrior riding off into the battle... Leaving me to clean up your failings."

"This from the person with no strategy whatsoever..."

The banter continues as the other trainer makes his move...

Shiva! Go! Let's Knock them out so hard that they don't wake up until sundae, uh, sunday! Start with TOXIC ICE CREAM OF DOOM (I.E. Mint Chocolate Chip), then go for Hail (I.E. Sugar Sprinkles), then finish off with Avalanche (I.E. Mr. Whippy Machine gone wrong)! If he decides to taunt you, Use Ice Beam instead of the first two actions!

Toxic/Ice Beam (If Taunt is ordered) > Hail/Ice Beam (If Taunt is ordered) > Avalanche

"Honchkrow, we'll force him to play our game, our way. Taunt him that first action, then follow up with a Snarl to lower his damage a bit. Finally, Roost off some of your damage (and lose your Flying type). Next turn is where the real action begins!"

Gooooood morning ladies and gentlemen! I'm your referee/anouncer Limewire, and boy, what a lovely day it is. Every match in this tournament will be special and unique in their own ways. How will this match up fair?

After our competitors are finished shaking hands, a coin is flipped to determine who will goes first. The coin stops, and Temperentia will send out a Pokemon. Out goes the Pokeball, and out pops up Eclipse the Honchkrow! Arcanite clearly wants the type advantage here, and sends out Shiva the Vanillish!

Bam! The match start off! Eclipse is such a boss that he Taunts Shiva for even stepping into the arena. Shiva becomes really made at this. Normally, she's a happy-go-lucky type of Pokemon, but that's no way to behave in a competitive sport! Shiva retaliates by firing an Ice Beam straight at Eclipse.

The attack appears to catch Eclipse off-guard. Feeling pissed off, he Snarls at Shiva. Because Eclipse is such a boss, the attack not only damages Shiva, it also lowers her Special Attack! Shiva fires off another (slightly weaker) Ice Beam attack at the bird.

So far, the round has a very rocky start for Eclipse- he has lost a chunk of health. Not to worry, though, for Honchkrow Roosts down onto the ground and recovers some health. Shiva meanwhile creates a bunch of gigantic snowballs over the Honchkrow and lets them Avalanche down onto it. Its a good thing that Eclipse was grounded, though, or else that attack would have hurt!

Eclipse: Taunt on Shiva. Costs 10 energy. Shiva is Taunted for 6 actions.
Shiva: Ice Beam on Eclipse. Deals 20.5 damage. Costs 7 energy.
Eclipse: Snarl on Shiva. Deals 10.5 damage. Costs 5 energy. Lowers Shiva's SpA by 1.
Shiva: Ice Beam on Eclipse. Deals 18.75 damage. Costs 9 energy.
Eclipse: Roosts. Heals 20 HP. Costs 12 (110/10 + 2) energy.
Shiva: Avalanche on Eclipse. Deals 10.5 damage. Costs 6 energy.

Our competitors are still at the middle of the arena. Temperentia will go first now!

"That wasn't so bad, Honchkrow! Use Nasty Plot, then Heat Wave Twice! But if he uses Avalanche on turns 2 or 3, Thunder Wave once instead. We'll take out this popsicle yet!"

Seeing as you are taunted, we have nothing better to do than Icicle spear to interupt his plotting, then an icy wind to lower his speed down. Then, try to reduce his mobility by firing an ice beam at his wings!

As soon as the first round ended, our two Pokemon immediately start slugging it out. Eclipse is pissed that he has lost so much health in so little time. To add insult to injury, the Pokemon who caused said damage was an ice cream cone. Have you ever heard of an ice cream cone taking out a badass muthafucka gangster boss? Eclipse thinks not. Feeling anger and rage inside of him, he starts to imagine Nasty Plots to inflict upon Shiva, who opens her mouth wide and spits out a flurry of frozen Icicle Spears at Eclipse. The spears whizz by Eclipse like bullets, and a few jab him at critical parts. Eclipse is still pumping up his special attacks when another round of spears are launched at the bird. His wings, taltons, "beard", tails- all of them have been impaled with spears. With great effort, Eclipse manages to yank out the spears, spurting a tiny bit of blood every time he does so.

The barrage of spears has severly weakened Eclipse. He is starting to feel exhaustion settling in. Wait a minute- it appears as if Nasty Plot has finished! Could this turn the tide around? With a cruel smile on his face, Honchkrow's wings glow firey red- hold on, they actually are on fire- and despite the nasty wounds, he flaps them vigorously. The flames on the crow's wings mix with the gust eminated from the flapping, creating a massive Heat Wave that blasts right into Shiva, knocking her quite a few feet away. The heat suddenly triggers some sort of primordial fear for her, just as we humans have a primordial fear when we are, say, being attacked by a wild animal. The heat slowly starts to literally melt her away. Shiva panicks and starts to blow an Icy cold Wind to stop the heat. Alas! for the heat is simply too stong. However, Eclipse's bleeding wings forces him to stop flapping, and immediately he is hit by the wind. The sheer temperature- or lack of, should I say- chills him right to the bone, and lowers his speed.

Feeling quite uncomfortable, Eclipse attempts to warm himself again with another Heat Wave. The blast, once again, starts to make Shiva panick. However, this time, she seems to be a bit more prepared. Shiva creates an Ice Beam that manages to penetrate the heat wave due to it being concentrated. For some reason, the attack seems to have missed Eclipse's body and hit the wings instead. That would lower the damage of the attack by a bit, an- wait just a minute! I believe I see what is going on. By using Ice Beam on the Honckrow's wings, not only will Eclipse be forced to waste a turn unmelting it, he will also be grounded. Eclipse has also catched on- he tries to generate even more heat, but once again, the previous wounds force him to stop flapping. The Ice Beam hits his left wing, freezing it and causing Honchkrow to plummet to the ground.

Eclipse: +2 to SpA via Nasty Plot. Costs 7 energy.
Shiva: Icicle Spear x2. Deals 27 (13.5 x 2) damage. Costs 6 energy.
Eclipse: Heat Wave on Shiva. Deals 23.25 damage. Costs 7 energy. Shiva is burned!
Shiva: Ice Wind on Eclipse. Deals 14 damage. Costs 4 energy. Lowers speed. -2 HP.
Eclipse: Heat Wave on Shiva. Deals 23.25 damage. Costs 9 (7 + 2) energy.
Shiva: Ice Beam on Shiva's wings. Deals 14 damage (reduced because it did not hit Eclipse's body). Freezes wings; Eclipse starts to plummet down. Costs 9 energy. -2 HP to Shiva.

The battle has moved a bit to the north. Honchkrow is about 10 feet from the center of the arena, and Shiva is 15 feet away from him, a bit to the north-east. Arcanite will start off this time.

P.S. If you guys don't like the increased amount of writing/flavor, don't hesitate to tell me.

Ok Shiva! We can do it! Go for a Full on Ice Beam! Then Ice Shard until it faints! One Sucker punch won't kill us, and as you are faster, you can ice Shard before his sucker punch!

I will be away at TCG Nats until Monday Morning, and I will post my next round, if needed, then.

"Grr, Honchkrow! Rest your wings as you orient yourself to land neatly on the ground, Roost! From the ground,(retaining your loss of Flying typing) Fire a Heat Wave at him (Heat Wave tecnically uses the mouth/exhalation), then Sucker Punch the Vanillish. If everything goes according to plan, we'll defeat it and make it through this battle yet!"

What a heart-pounding round that was! Both Pokemon are now in critical condition. Eclipse has his wings frozen, his speed lowered, and has lower health and energy than Shiva, but makes up for it by having a boosted Special Attack. Shiva, on the other hand, is burned, and will have a tough time preying on Eclipse horrible Defense stat. It could be anyone's game this round.

Shiva find herself attacking faster this round (47 Eclipse vs 51 Shiva). She wastes no time gathering what cold air there is into one tiny concentrated ball, which explodes into an Ice Beam, hitting Eclipse square in the chest as he falls down. Meanwhile, the ground starts to get closer and closer to Eclipse- but wait! He manages to Roost along the way, not only recovering some health, but also avoiding any damage by colliding against the ground. Now that is what I call style!

Shiva immediately spits out a gigantic shard of ice that zooms right across the battlefield and smacks right into Eclipse. If Shiva wasn't burned, that attack would have nearly knocked him out! Despite this, though, the attack makes Eclipse wince in pain- more pain than I have observed so far. Perhaps this attack was a critical hit? No matter, though, for Eclipse launches a Heat Wave. This time, it emerges from his mouth as his wings are still frozen. The sheer intensity of the attack slightly melts his wings, and nearly destroys Shiva! With only very little health remaining, launches another nasty Ice Shard that rushes across the arena at Eclipse and straight at his chest, piercing his heart and killi- erm, "fainting" him for the rest of the battle.

Shiva: Ice Beam on Eclipse. Deals 20.5 damage. Costs 7 energy. -2 HP.
Eclipse: Roosts. Recovers 20 HP. Costs 12 (110/10 + 2) energy.
Shiva: Ice Shard on Eclipse. Critical hit! Deals 15 damage. Costs 2 energy. -2 HP.
Eclipse: Heat Wave on Shiva. Deals 18.75 damage. Costs 7 energy. Partially melts his wings.
Shiva: Ice Shard on Eclipse. Deals 8 damage. Costs 4 (2+2) energy. -2HP.
Eclipse: Sucker Punch on Eclipse. Fails due to Ice Shard being faster. Costs 5 energy.

Laharl recalls Honchkrow after it fell to the ground after attempting to perform its trainer's last action.

"Lenneth... I hoped to have been able to dent his next Pokemon... Just take it from here."

"Ohoho, brother. Putting me on the spot, now are you? No matter... Mr. Bubbles, let's finish this! One, quick Vacuum Wave should do it."

Can I query the calcs please:

I have the second Ice Shard doing 12 damage. (roost only lasts for one action)

Roost: The Pokemon's wings grow heavy and are surrounded by a white energy. The Pokemon grounds itself and recovers 20 HP, and loses all weaknesses, resistances, and immunities associated with the Flying type for the remainder of that action.

Alright, the mistake has been fixed. Sorry for screwing up >_<

Temperentia, please edit your post with Toxicroak's actions.

Nice try but,

1. My Speed is higher than yours (- dodge chance)
2. You have a speed decreasing nature (Accuracy boost for me)
3. Vacuum Wave=Priority=Dodge/Fail

Mr. Bubbles the Toxicroak ready to preform! He quickly does a few warm-ups to get himself into shape before the next round starts. Meanwhile, Shiva is wheezing and hacking on the other side. She obviously won't survive this time, but can she still manage to do some damage to her new foe?

Apparently not. As soon as I blow the whistle, Mr. Bubbles immediately starts to swirl his arms around, creating a strange sort of Vacuum Wave. He immediately punches into the vortex, and his fist suddenly pops right in front of Shiva before she could react, hitting her dead-on and fainting her! Whoah! Let's see that on the slow-motion screen. Ah yes, the slow-mo shows that Mr. Bubble's fist first lands on Shiva's left cheek, causing the energy wave to move across her head and make a funny face before dissapearing at her right cheek and knocking her out. Even Muhammad Ali would be impressed at the grace of the punch.

Mr. Bubbles: Vaccuum Wave on Shiva. KO! Costs 2 energy.

With one mon left, Arcanite sends out Staryu and moves first. Since both challengers have an equal advantage at this point, a small half-time break is called, and the battle will start at the center of the arena.

Ok Staryu, start off with Reflect, then hit him with a Psychic! Then Finish off with a thunderbolt!

Not going to be able to post until sunday evening or monday afternoon, VGC Calls!

"Let's go, Mr. Bubbles. Stop his Reflect with a Fake Out, then use your Swagger to confuse him terribly (hope for the speed tie to be in our favor). Finish with a Taunt for good measure and stopping any future set-up attempts. We won't lose yet!"

Ah, that was a refreshing break, wasn't it? After our brief half-time, the match will resume. Both Pokemon are at full health and have roughly the same energy. Mr. Bubbles, being fully-evolved and all, may have the upper advantage, but his poor Special Defense stat and his speed tie with Fuma Shuriken the Staryu may cause his downfall. Who will win the match?

Mr. Bubbles immediately starts out with a Fake Out! He strikes Fuma Shuriken with amazing speed, in fact, the punch was so fast that it created a sonic boom that flinched Fuma (and me as well!) Oh, what's this? Mr. Bubbles's Poisoned Hands apparently touched FS for too long- the poor thing has been poisoned! This will be a severe disadvantage for the Staryu- or will it? One must not forget its own ability, Natural Cure, which will remedy the poison in six actions.

Mr. Bubbles is about to prepare another attack, but Fuma Shuriken breaks the speed tie and is moving first this time! It uses its Psychic energy to create a blue aura around Mr. Bubbles. FS then repeatedly picks him up and smashes him against the floor until the psychic connection breaks. The attack is extremely powerful against the Toxicroak, however, his Anticipation ability enables him to resist super effective attacks, so Psychic deals a bit less damage than normal. Now, this somewhat ticks Mr. Bubbles off. How does this puny starfish dare to make a mockery out of a champion boxer like him!? Fuma apparently needs a lesson to learn, so he uses his almighty Swaggah to send Fuma into a confusing rage.

Once again, we find FS breaking the speed tie. It is extremely furious (and perhaps a bit jealous) at the boxing frog's swagger, but manages to shrug off the confusion and hit it with a particularly nasty Thunderbolt. Owch! The attack hit Mr. Bubble's heart, dealing a critical hit. However, Mr. Bubble's heart muscles are extremely stong and avoid paralysis. Secretly, Mr. Bubbles is very glad that he isn't paralyzed, but he won't tell this to Fuma Shuriken, and instead Taunts the starfish for this.

Mr. Bubbles: Fake Out on Fuma Shuriken. Deals 8.5 damage. Costs 4 energy. Poison Skin activates! Fuma Shuriken is Poisoned!
F.S.: Flinches. -2 HP.
F.S.: Psychic on Mr. Bubbles. Deals 22.75 (-3 from Anticipation) damage. Costs 6 energy. -2 HP.
Mr. Bubbles: Swagger on Fuma Shuriken. Confusion for 3 turns! +2 Atk (FS) Costs 7 energy.
F.S.: Thunderbolt on Mr. Bubbles. Critical hit! Deals 16 damage. Costs 7 energy. -2 HP.
Mr. Bubbles: Taunts Fuma Shuriken for 6 actions. Costs 10 energy.
