ASB Factory Tournament R1: Orcinus Duo vs Complications

And another exciting tourney begins in our humble little realm of Smogon's Anime Style Battling League! Though this Round 1 match between Orcinus_Duo and Complications may not be the pinnacle highlight match of this Round 1 (lucarioisawesome vs Yarnus grabs that title), it is certainly forming up to be an exciting match between a Gym Leader and a Gym Leader candidate!

Before we continue on the referee's pre-battle musings, its best if we get everything organized, including...

Team Complications:

Complication's team emphasizes bulky offense with its powerful fighting/dark/psychic core formed by Scrafty and Girafarig, backed up by the monstrous blob of HP known as Lapras. Striking from both sides of the attacking spectrum, having good offensive coverage and decent defensive synergy among its mons, Complications team will be a tough nut to crack if he keeps on top of switching into good matchups. Its only downside is generally low speed (even then, Girafarig is sitting at an average 85), but good old-fashioned smashing should be able to overcome that.

Team Orcinus_Duo:

Orcinus's team has very little Scolipede. As many historians and announcers have mentioned in several documentaries on the topic, Scolipede is a surefire counter to a majority of Complication's team, and would steamroll (pun most certainly intended) right through this battle. It's high speed, access to hazards, and ability to spam a high-BAP flinching move give it a great advantage over slower teams such as complications, especially when one of its members is weak to bug. It is a badass purple mon, which puts it on par with Gengar immediately. Scolipede is also highly underused in ASB, and would promote the value of using rare and creative Pokemon, as this Tournament was partially intended for that purpose. However, Orcinus wimped out and got Ambipom instead. Leading experts in Orcidynamics have considered this momentous change a valuable experiment - one that may shake the very foundations of the science. Though many theories have been tentatively put forth, originally the premier theory was that this happenstance is based of the Dodge Conundrum - subconsciously Orcinus holds a grudge against fast, frail Pokemon due to their ability to use his hated dodge effectively. However, this was quickly debunked because Orcinus used Ambipom in the centipede's place, and replaced with the far more logical Leadership Paradigm - where Orcinus switched forth to Ambipom on the basis that Scolipede, being big and scary, represented the Council in some way, thus turning him off to its other more obvious positive qualities. Regardless, the battle and upcoming tourney should lead to more conclusive evidence, pushing forward the infant field of Orcidynamics signifcantly.

Ambipom (F)

Nature: Jolly (+Spe, +20 Acc., -SpAtk)

Type: Normal
Normal: Normal STAB; adapt comfortably to any surrounding after 3 actions. Able to use Outrage without losing focus.

Ability:
Technician: (Innate) This Pokemon is more skilled at performing weaker moves, causing any of their one-hit or two-hit attacks that normally have 6 or less Base Attack Power to have their Base Attack Power on each hit multiplied by 1.5. (e.g. Aerial Ace goes from 6 to 9, Mach Punch goes from 4 to 6, Double Hit to from 4 per hit to 6 per hit etc.) The Energy Cost for a one-hit or two-hit attack is increased by one (1). Each hit in a multi-hit move is boosted by one (1) Base Attack Power, and the Energy Cost for multi-hit attacks is increased by two (2). Because Technician is a multiplier on single hit moves, its effect is applied to Base Attack Power before any additive effects. Technician only applies to combos in the rare case that an initial hit will have 6 or less BAP.

"I think I know what Orcinus is up to..."

A board of international leaders in Orcidynamics has been privy to viewing this battle, and a fortunate side effect of collecting such a large amount of brilliant minds in once place is the spontaneous invention of Poke-thought-and-voice-translator to aid our understanding of the forthcoming battle.

The scientists sit forward on the edge of their seats, pushing up their glasses and clicking their pens with unnatural vigor in eager anticipation of Orcinus's first move. He fingers his Pokeball seductively because he is sex, as if the sphere were one of his girlfriend's breasts, before tossing it out into the arena in a decidedly unbreastlike manner. In the flash of light, smoke, and mirrors that seemed to appear from nowhere (clipboards are furiously written upon, no data must be excluded in such a complex experiment), the shadow of a great rearing centipede appears, clacking its mandibles ferociously as the smoke slowly dissipates from its stage entrance. A consecutive gasp ripples throughout the tournament crowd - could Orcinus have encountered a last minute change of heart, seeing past his disgust at flaunting strongthness and have found the good within Scolipede's wondrous heart of gold? No! It's just a nameless female Alakazam, another awkward species-sex combo shipped off to the Battle Factory in neglect and shame from its previous trainer, showcasing her incomprehensible psychic might by simultaneously tricking ever single spectator in the crowd that it was indeed a Scolipede. Was Alakazam desperately trying to prove her worth, hoping that just maybe her cruel first owner would realize the true beauty in an extremely feminine meter-long mustache? Did Orcinus plan this spectacle, or did Alakazam create the illusion out of her own unseen motives?

Complications releases a visible sigh of relief upon seeing the shadowed Scolipede transform into an Alakzam - at least he won't have to be troubled by the strongest Pokemon in the entire Anime Style Battling League, though Alakazam would indeed prove a tough foe for the battle. Muttering angrily about the lack of a pun in the title, he furrows his brow for a few moments before deciding upon his first Pokemon. In a flash of light (no smoke and mirrors here), out appears the named Lillith the Scrafty. Lillith gazes deep within Alakazam's narrow eyes with a sense of unerring empathy - she understands the difficulties of being a shemale. Alakazam returns the look with resigned sorrow, as they both know there is no way out of the upcoming bloody fight. Perhaps afterwards, if both of their usually forgotten corpses are repaired to a semblance of healthiness, they can go shopping. Perhaps not; emotions flare in the heat of battle, and whatever friendship that could be created just as easily be destroyed, as inconsistent as a Smeargle before the English translations of Black and White.

With a lone gong to silence the roaring crowd, the battle begins. Alakazam seems to be holding back for something - the Orcidynamics board lean over to each other and be discussing quickly. Could Orcinus be forfeiting the match, a silence protest against the countless wrongs against him? Is Orcinus too busy raging at some locked-away portion of his inner soul, and is struck with momentary indecision in the midst of battle? Dozens of theories are suggested, nearly all of them countered, and after a quick review of the meeting's notes, it is adjourned to watch the unfolding match once again. Lillith looks uncertainly at her trainer, torn between her sudden understanding of Alakazam's plight and the drive to impress her new trainer. Complications, fantastic human being that he is, somehow manages to give Lillith a warm smile and an encouraging nod through his impasse battle mask of determination, and her soul swells with fuzzies: her mind is set. As she runs forward, however, one look into Alakazam’s deep troubled eyes tears Lilith’s heart right in two. She stops and falls to her knees before the other yellow Pokemon (subconsciously, she realizes that is in fact another similarity she shares with her supposed enemy), tears already streaming down her face. The Crunch of a Scrafty leaves human gangs running for their mommas, and could probably tear the frail and sickly malnourished Alakazam right in two, but all Lillith can manage is wrapping her full lips around Alakzam’s nipple and giving a tender suckle, wishing that this nipple was that of her long-lost momma Scrafty, who is neither fat nor poor nor stupid, granting her delicious, warm milk instead of the horrors of factory battles. Nevertheless, the dark energies imbued in every Scrafty courses through her saliva, and wrenches Alakzam with terrible pain. The psychic-type gives a shrill scream, falling to the ground and struggling with spasms all through her wiry limbs. Lillith rears back in regret, the tears streaming down her cheeks like a +6 Choice Band Gyarados’s Waterfall.

Unable to bear the flowing waves of grief from the happenings on the field, all eyes turn expectantly to Orcinus. He stands coolly, perhaps even lustily, and shows no emotion – a far cry from his standard rampages, but in fact as a true trainer should. The crowd is silent, the scientists stop their discussing, the music finishes, not even a baby dares babble. The only sound in the massive arena is the earsplitting screech of a deprived Alakazam experiencing pain like she has never before, though she has certainly endured an enormous amount during her impoverished lifetime. After what seemed to be an eternity, Alakzam quiets down into an unnerving mixture of heavy panting and squealing that absurdly strikes all portions of the sound spectrum.

Orcinus utters a single word, his voice echoing with majestic power over the silent stadium. Sixteen women orgasm, and at least three men are hard. “Counter”

Impossible. This word runs through the mind of most everybody in the arena. Despite his perfectly chiseled body and incredibly persuasive personality, a ripple of discord spreads its way through the crowd. How could such an amazing man speak such terrible orders? Is he immune to the grief-stricken relationship between the two sisters-from-another-mister on the battlefield? Can he not see the truth behind the Pokemon battle? Is Orcinus indeed the pure embodiment of sex itself, with no care for feelings, only the ruthless drive for a peak in excitement? Alakazam, struggling to return to her feet, falls back down again at the mention of that cursed word. Indeed, Lillith has given her great pain, but Alakazam knows that she didn’t truly mean it. Deep inside, Alakazam knows Lillith has a heart as grand as any Scolipede’s. Alakazam begins to shake her head – there is no way in hell that she could possibly betray Lillith like that, even if one of the seven deadly sins itself was ordering her to do it. She instantly regrets this decision, as the factory-ordained specialized microchip shock collar fries a single one of her brain cells into the abyss. She winces in pain; the memories and thoughts somehow managing to flow even faster despite the fact that she in fact lost a brain cell.

She remembers that day, that horrible day her abusive trainer sent her to the factory in repulsion. There, in a large plain room, dirty white walls barely illuminated by a lone imprisoned Tynamo, a long table seemed to stretch on forever, its dark shadows stretching even further in the dim lighting. This table held exactly six hundred and forty nine microchip designs – one to inflict the most terrible thing imaginable upon a disobedient factory Pokemon, without actually decreasing its combat effectiveness whatsoever. Ah yes, it’s always about how well they fight, not how well they feel. They had strapped her down to the table, dirty scalpels brandished ferociously in the dark room, and implanted the Alakazam design on her forehead, leaving a bloody mess for days – the scar still remains faintly, and she cringes every time the factory overlords grant her mirror privileges.

Even now, she feels her intelligence slipping away, panicking frantically. Could she still teach other Alakazam to break free of the “four moveslot syndrome”? Could she still take the derivative, and thusly find the slope, of an excerpt of “Othello” translated into Thai? Could she even solve a Rubik’s Cube anymore? How much longer until she was more lowbrow than a Conkeldurr too dumb to find its own pillars? She shuddered at the very thought, but in between this horror of the mind from the dastardly factory owners and horror of the body from Lillith’s previous attack, a swelling rage began to grow within her gizzard. That was it. There would be no more of this abuse, starting today. Alakazam was a new woman; a strong independent Pokemon. She straightened her posture, she narrowed her already narrow eyes, she clenched her fists, and she donned a pair of sexy glasses gifted to her by that demon of lust Orcinus. No longer would she be trampled by everyone. And to show her newfound confidence, she exorcised every bit of hate, every bit of anger from her newly-cleansed soul. She sent a wave of pure roiling energy towards the whimpering Lillith, but one glance into those big lazy eyes, anxiously trying to remember a distant, happier time, and the potentially-deadly energy blast soared out across the stadium – Alakazam knew she could not do this alone, and Lillith would be the perfect partner for the unstable years ahead. Together, they could do anything. Alas, as in all tragedies, Alakazam’s change of heart was an unfortunate moment too late, and Lillith crumpled beneath the might of the rage blast. Alakazam rushed towards her friend, wrapping her arms around the limp form.

Complications had no idea what to think in such a situation ; it was unlike anything he had ever encountered in his journeys. Did he break down and grant these two poor Pokemon the love they need, forfeiting the ever-important Tournament? Clearly Orcinus would do no such thing after that already infamous command. He was caught with a Toxicroak in his throat; was there no positive outcome to this battle? Both Pokemon were in unimaginable pain and the battle had only just begun. Already Complications was smitten with Lillith – never before had he seen a dark-type with such affection toward others, a complete opposite from the ruthless Optimus he was used to. Complications only wanted the best for his Pokemon, but if the battle was won, he could gain the chance to live a lifetime with Lillith by his side, freeing her from the endless cycle of slavery every factory Pokemon lives. Sighing with resignation, Complications opted for the decision that benefited them both in the long term, rather than rescuing them from them from even more pain now. Complications gave Lillith plenty of time to recover before rushing to her side, kneeling so they could speak eye to eye. Alakazam reluctantly gave her up.

“Listen, Lillith,” Complications looked at her with a thin frown, gripping her shoulders comfortingly, “You’re doing great so far. I’m not going to lie and say I understand what’s going on out there – that’s between you and Alakazam. There’s nothing I love more seeing bonding between Pokemon – except for them bonding with me. I love how caring you are Lilith, it is like nothing I’ve ever seen before…”

He sat down and looked her in the eye, the frown slowly working its way towards a smile, “Lillith, if we win this, we can be together forever. I’ll take you home, away from this place, you’ll live the life you’ve always wanted! We’ll take on the world together, Lillith, you and I, partners forever. Nothing can stop us!”

Lillith wanted to cry out, complaining that it wasn’t fair that Complications should force her to choose between him and Alakazam. Such a life-changing decision shouldn’t be forced on someone in this state! All she managed was a sniffle and a meek “Scrafty!”, while she absently pulled on her pants.

“And I know that it’s not fair for me to choose between you and Alakazam. And so I’ll make this promise to you. If we win this battle, I’ll take Alakazam from the grip of that devilish sex demon, and we’ll make it all the way to the finals, and I’ll forfeit right then and there. We’ll all run away, far away from this hellhole, and we’ll never speak of these dark times again. We’ll live a new life!”

Lilith paused in her intermittent breathing, taking in a mouthful of sweet relief. It could work, Complications was right! She just had to win this battle; they could do it! She turned back towards Alakazam, who had been listening in with a glimmer of hope. Complications stopped her with the most gentle of touches on the shoulder. She looked back at him, her tears already drying in the face of a a new life.

“Wait, Lillith. So you know I am true…”

I know you’re true, Complications! You are the greatest trainer I’ve ever met, even if this plan fails, you will always be in my heart! She began to cry again, this time tears of unadulterated joy, and Complications gave her that smile once again, his deep eyes beginning to wet as well. He welcomed her into a safe embrace, and Lillith never wanted to leave the grasp of his strong, tender arms. They remained silent for a moment, before Complications slowly detached one of his arms from Lillith’s shoulder to reach into his backpack. He produced what appeared to be a simple herb, but somehow Lillith knew it meant so much more.

“Lillith, take this. I smuggled it in; the officials think its just a Mental Herb, but it means a lot to me. It is a feather my older sister wore in her hair every day until she died. She was a strong girl, the bravest and greatest I had ever known – until I met you, Lillith. Take this, you deserve it. With it, you’ll be the strongest you’ve ever been. Go now, Lillith, I believe in you.”

He turned his caring gaze to Alakazam. “I hope to free you, as well, and give you the name you’ve always wanted. In fact, you’ve worked hard enough to deserve one now, my new friend. I christen you Helen, and I trust you will do your best to work with us. You are a strong woman indeed; that blast earlier could not be matched by most Pokemon, and I look forward to working with you. Good luck, you two.”

And with that, Complications stepped back out of the battle and to the sidelines, a hopeful smile plastered on his face. What he had handed Lilith was in fact just a Mental Herb, but the false significance gave her that kick she needed, and with some smart plays and good training, they could make it happen. Complications, in his boundless compassion, knew how to get others to achieve what they wanted, in the kindest way possible. Lillith also returned to her duties, and with a solemn nod, began relentlessly pummeling Helen, fighting back tears the whole time. She it knew it was for the best, but it still hurt to carry out the act – and for this, she unleashed dark Payback upon Helen. Not payback for the earlier counterattack, not even payback for what the factory masters have put them both through, and certainly not payback for whatever nonexistent crimes Complications has committed against her. No, this payback was all focused on one point, and that one point was the monstrously alluring Orcinus, and his aloof uncaring manner. No man that beautiful should ever be that cruel, but this only made Lillith even angrier, as his black heart within defaced the pristine exterior, ruining what could have been an excellent trainer!

As Lillith continued to pummel Helen’s willing body, the crowd fell silent as the unspoken command hung heavily in the air. Complications tore his gaze away from the fight with a contorted expression of grief; he couldn’t bear to see such horrors unleashed once again. Alakazam is a far more nimble Pokemon than Scrafty, why hadn’t Helen already acted? There could only be one answer…

Counter.

It is unknown to this day how women can scream deadly curses and boo the very man who wets them just by speaking.

This time, Helen held no regrets, bearing her new name proudly and with great faith in the future. She returned Lillith’s attack with even greater force; she unleashed all of her hate against that infallible hunk commanding her. The poor Scrafty was sent flying across the field and landed in a heap, still holding on tight to the Mental Herb despite everything that struck her. The reluctance from Helen’s attack was permeable in the air. She paused for only a moment to regain her breath for limping over to Lillith’s body, only a half a step ahead of Complications. Together they comforted each other, pouring their confidence and optimism into a great communal pool. Lillith and Helen, beaten and bruised, barely managed to return Complication’s empowering smile. This battle is testing the limits like no other, but together they could win.

and then a3 is a repeat of a1 lol flavor is so ez why do people skip out on it???

What a pity, I envisioned that my tournament opponents would be of higher standards. Your Scrafty was your lynchpin this game, and now you've let it die. How unfortunate.

And damn you Alakazam, you're mine, not Complication's. We don't do emotional hocus-pocus here. Helen is a whore's name, and I'll be blasted if I'm forced to call you that. Just do what I tell you and keep the frolicking about to a minimum, and maybe I'll pick you when I win the tournament.

Alakazam back, Ambipom@Sticky Barb out

"You confuse standards for mistakes, Orcinus. Unfortunately, however, this one appears to be quite critical, but don't count me out yet. Lillith is almost unconscious but she still has some fight left in her; I think I'll stay in."

The Orcidynamics Board held their breath for the pause in the action – what would their subject do next? He had been betrayed by his own allies, yet seems completely unfazed. Is Orcinus a binary entity, switching between utter cool and unbridled rage? What switches him between these two vastly different forms? Questions were proposed, arguments counter-formed, and discussion continued as usual, all awaiting Orcinus’s next command.

He surveys the battle calmly, his seductive features betraying no emotions roiling inside. Eventually his gaze comes to stop on Helen, cowering within the comforting hug of Complications and Lilith. He lowers his hand to his belt, causing a wave of excitement through the crowd, and an even bigger wave of dismay when he merely unclips a Pokeball. He raises the ball in the most seductive of manners, clears his throat, and speaks out in his silky, deep voice.

“Alakazam, return.”

The arena unleashes another vicious salvo of boos upon the sex god, but he ignores them dispassionately. He raises the Pokeball, kinkily kneading it between his knuckles before giving the button a sensual tap. A large red beam flashes out towards Helen, and she can only wish it was a Porygon-Z’s world-crushing Hyper Beam to give her blissful release from the cycle of slavery instead of its true meaning, an unbreakable chain binding her to this harsh, intensely attractive master. The beam circles out across the stadium in an unnecessary roundabout path; was Helen tapping her psychic prowess to delay the switch? Eventually, it can be put off no more, and the red beam encases Helen in a glowing prison, not unlike the neon glare from a red-light district. She gives a final squeeze to her friends, looking into Complication’s compassionate eyes, hoping to find some semblance of hope in the deep brown pupils. There! There it is, Complications truly believes they can still find success, the world will eventually be good, in some distant fairy-tale future. Helen clings onto this last shred of courage as she feels herself being dragged away into the uncomfortable rental ball. Lillith begins bawling once again; even Complications sheds an empathetic tear – but then suddenly it all stopps. The glow fades, and Helen remains exactly where she is.

Everyone takes a moment to try and figure out exactly what had just happened, but everyone’s efforts are in vain. As many times before during this eventful match, all eyes turn to Orcinus. The Orcidynamics scientists run some routine tests on their Orcimeters, and did in fact determine that this was not an intended outcome – something was wrong. Orcinus glanced quickly at the Pokeball again; had his intensifying massage hit the button again accidently? No, he had in fact not hit the Pokeball’s g-spot. What could possibly be the error? Regardless, he tries again, straightening up and unbuttoning his shirt slightly.

“Alakazam, return.”

Again, the red beam laces out across the stadium. Again, Helen stalls it for as long as possible. Again, she gives one final squeeze to her compatriots. And again, it fails at the last moment. Helen and Lillith look worriedly at each other, still gripping on tight. Slowly, Complications stands up, giving both of the Pokemon a reassuring pat on the back. He looks towards Orcinus with an expression of grim determination, the faintest glimmerings of a minor victory dancing in his eyes.

“Call her by name, you monster. That’s the only way to further your ruthless plans. At the very least, you can give her a name to remember herself by. All you have to say is ‘Helen, return’ and then your sick little game will continue.”

Orcinus’s gay fanclub of Jimmies are very rustled by this comment, but eventually even they realize the truth behind Complication’s brave statement. Helen will only ever return to that hellhole if called by name; it is coded deep within the circuitry of the rental ball. Even worse than the Jimmies was the fact that Orcinus’s cool exterior was beginning to crack, and despite both arousing and interesting the scientists, this could only mean horrible things to come for everyone else on the battlefield.

“Alakazam, return.”

In traditional sex god style, Orcinus concedes nothing. As Helen continues to psychically reroute the Pokeball beam, Orcinus steps down from his pedestal (the Orcidynamics council questioned where this pedestal came from) and begins to stride majestically across the battlefield, on a determined line towards the grief-stricken group in the center of the field.

Within one final stride, he arrives. He inexplicably looms over them, his sculpted abs nearly bursting out of his tight, mostly unbuttoned shirt and punching them each individually in the face with little ab-fists. There he glares at Complications, then at Helen, and back to Complications again. He gives a disparaging hmph in the general direction of Lillith, and then glares back at Complications, locking eyes with the goodhearted trainer.

In an unexpected move that leaves the entire audience, all of the scientists, and several frolicking Pidgey utterly stunned, Orcinus smacks his own Alakazam with an immense punch, making any Machamp jealous. Helen’s frail and broken body is sent flying across the field until she hangs limply on the edge of the moat, gasping for air and struggling to hold on. Lillith yelps out with surprise, but Complications gently holds her back from rushing to the side of her friend. If Lillith is going to make it any further, he knows she must not exert herself; she’s already exhausted and battered from Helen’s misguided attacks.

Orcinus returns silently to his pedestal, barely containing his seething inner rage at Helen’s disobedience. There, regaining his composure momentarily, he readies another Pokeball.

“Alakazam has now left the battlefield. In her stead, I choose Ambipom.”

He throws the ball out into the arena unceremoniously, and the blinding flash produces an Ambipom. Lillith, in her emotionally torn state, frantically searches for another ally against this monster Orcinus – but one look into the cold, calculating eyes of this Ambipom, and Lilith knows that Ambipom is as true of an enemy as Orcinus himself. The monkey gives a slight, wicked grin as she lands lightly on her feet. She wastes no time in casually working her way towards her new prey, inspecting every minor cut with obvious relish. She is looking forward to this.

Lillith grimaces with disappointment and worry. They really need another ally now, not a true sadistic servant befitting of a man(?) such as Orcinus. Nevertheless, with Complication’s reassuring firm grip on her shoulder, she hardens her resolve and prepares for whatever may come next. She balls her fists, turns her smile back upside-down like a true Scrafty, and readies herself for the oncoming onslaught.

However, Ambipom is not finished toying with her quite yet. She lazily lies back on the ground and stretches out her handtail, softly stroking Lillith on the cheek with the puffy apparatus. Ambipom giggles, her chiseled fangs flashing in the bright stadium lighting, and she lolls her tongue out of her jaw, as if the entire tournament were nothing more than a game. Her hand-tail steadily goes lower on Lillith’s body, and Ambipom keeps that grin on her face the entire time.

Lillith, getting more and more uncomfortable, resolves that this is not what she came here for. She did not come here to both have her heart torn in two and be fondled by this slavering Ambipom. This is not who she is. Lillith stood defiantly, and slapped away the hand-tail with disgust. She stands as tall and proud as a naturally hunchbacked midget could, and marches the long yard towards the reclining monkey.

Ambipom only snickers at the weakened Scraggy, and retracts her handtail to her – err, a different place. Her insufferable grin only widens when Lillith stumbles on her shaking legs, and she even releases a piercing giggle when Lillith falls over completely. Ambipom takes the hand-tail from her “different place” and even helps her foe up, the –uh, cruel condescension- dripping from her mildly damp handtail erasing any semblance of goodwill from the normally kind act.

After what seems to be an eternity, Lillith arrives at her destination, resolutely looking Ambipom in the eye, though Ambipom hardly returns the gaze, distractedly gazing around as if her opponent didn’t even exist. Lillith simply cannot take it anymore; this nightmare of a day has already gone on far too long with nothing good to show for it. She unleashes what little strength remains in her battered body and slaps Ambipom across the face – hard. Ambipom is taken back by the unexpected blow, her continued fondling abruptly stops, and she is knocked sprawling. Lillith gives a gruff “hmph”, relieved that something finally went well today. Still, she was on her last legs, and can only wait for Ampibom’s counter-attack.

Or perhaps not. Ambipom glances up blearily at what had previously been her plaything, but now should be considered a threat. Never before had a toy fought back so sternly. Ambipom frowns, winded and her breath coming up short. Surely, she is the strongest, and that is why every other Pokemon is just another of her little puppets – they are not allowed to hit her. Something clicks within her – something has been set off.

Orcinus lets a wry, indescribably attractive smile slip through his bored mask. This Ambipom is more like one of his own.

Ambipom rises up angrily, the wrath already roiling off of her. She parts a section of her fur, near her “different place”, and reveals a small sharp object. She always kept this barb on her in case of emergencies, and a toy fighting back is an emergency like no other. Wielding the spiny sphere in the palm of her moist handtail, she leaps on Lillith in a ferocious rage, slicing and scratching at a blinding speed. There is nothing Lillith could do; within moments she had already collapsed to the ground, knocked out cold.

But Ambipom does not stop. She continues to slice and dice, wracking the already-beaten Scraggy with repeated blows. She jumps up and down on Lillith’s head, gouges towards her eye with the barb, whips the poor victim’s stomach with her flexible tail, goes for the neck with fangs bared wide – all the while cackling gleefully, the energy and joy of inflicting so much unbridled pain empowering Ambipom into a frenzy. Trying again for the eye (she missed last time due to overexcitement), she reaches high with her handtail, intending to pierce deep, letting out a chilling chuckle as she pauses momentarily.

Most of the audience had already averted their eyes from the ghastly scene unfolding atop Lillith’s broken body, but a strong-stomached few still see Complication’s valiant act of bravery. He charges at the blood-frenzied Ampibom, nailing the monkey with a flying tackle just moments before she lowers the barb into Lillith’s bleeding eye. With the strength found from adrenaline and revenge, he leads directly into a tough jab, detangling the gut-covered limbs from his shirt and sending Ambipom to the ground once again.

Dusting himself off and grimly removing a bit of Lillith's liver from his pants, sweat on his brow and blood on his jacket, Complications looks up towards Orcinus, just like the last break in the action. This time, however, the battle has truly begun.

Banned deucer.
Orcinus surveyed the battle. He had not seen so violent a pokemon in a while--it was refreshing. But Lilith's death was...too much, almost. Too crude, too wrong.

"Tend the tigers of flame, son. It isn't your power, nor will it ever be. We are just the caretakers..."

His ice-cold countenance slipped for a fraction of a second, turning ever so slightly. But there was nobody there--of course there wouldn't be...

"Matches are fleeting. They light, they burn, and then they die out. But the fire...the fire that they produce is eternal. When the match is finished, the fire's warmth does not depart. It travels, it becomes the glow of steel, of grass. Fire burns forever." Dad's coarse hands held my cheeks, his weak voice ringing in the sweltering heat as the workshop's furnace sparked and flared behind him. "Let that fire burn bright, son. Let it burn..."

Now, again, Orcinus felt those hands upon his cheek. But as the monotonous roar of the crowd echoed around him, he realized that the wind was picking up, and that the wind was here long before there was any battles or Pokemon, and would be here long after their death...

But he was gone. He was gone, his hands and beard and way with fire; he treated them like he would a baby, tender, stroking and coaxing through the dead of night, watching with his kind eyes.

But he was gone. And the skinny child's lonely silhouette stood uncomprehendingly before a dead furnace, the black and soot, alone in the unlighted shop. His tussled hair was cold, his hands numb and blistered from the shovel, the smudge of a teardrop on his dirty face. Outside, the first drops of rain pitter-pattered the brick roof, and the wind picked up, and for a second he could no longer tell which was he and which was the barefoot boy in rags, standing there, deserted.

Fire burns forever...What sentimental bullshit. Orcinus raised his hazel eyes to his opponent, his mission.

You'll not best me.

Thunderpunch-Fake Out-Thunderpunch

Helen sluggishly raised her head from the ground. The cool waters of the arena moat lapped gently against her sore upper body, and she wiped her face, trying to clear her mind and ears of the ringing from the earlier blow. What actually had happened? She foggily tried to piece the memories back together, but she could hardly focus on anything at all. Orcinus had tried to force her back into her Pokeball, it didn’t work, then what? Raising her head, she slowly looked out towards her master on the platform raised slightly above the field. His stance was tense, and he suddenly seemed unfocused, searching his mind for something unseen.

Unseen to most, that is. Helen desperately tried to clear her mind; Orcinus’s guard was down, she could peer into whatever infernal mechanisms made him tick. This could potentially be the only chance she would get, for it wouldn’t be long before he locked up once again. She closed her eyes, and let the rhythmic current of the water guide her mind into complete concentration. She ignored the intense pain ebbing through her limbs for a moment; her mind was far more resilient than this frail physical baggage. Now, she needed to see into Orcinus’s mind.

She psychically sent out a tiny mental ray, leaping across and burrowing its way as far as it could into the workings of Orcinus’s psych before he could react and shut it out. Yes – it was working! Helen caught broken images of various memories and subtle flutterings of emotions, she visited the organized library of data as Orcinus thought carefully over the battle at hand, and something else. Something far deeper, as Orcinus struggled to hide it within – was there in fact conflict or regret hidden somewhere within this mysterious monster? Was he not driven by the single-minded goal of victory; was there something else skimming just beneath the surface?

Helen directed her psychic limb into this side path, searching deeper for the truth. This locked-off section of Orcinus’s mind was a tortuous maze of dark corridors interlocked in a never-ending mess – whatever was hidden inside was something Orcinus truly wished he could forget. Still, mentally connecting whatever minor fragments she could gather, Helen began to create an image: the warmth of an eternal flame, a kind figure to match it…was there some semblance of good concealed behind Orcinus’s uncaring mask?

And then it stopped suddenly, Helen being forced back into reality. Startled, she snapped her eyes open, and looked at Orcinus. He had recollected himself once again, ruining Helen’s chance, and was looking out over the battle, hands clasped behind his back, pleased with the progress. The Battle! Helen whipped her head towards what was happening in the arena, and immediately wished she hadn’t. Complications, jaw clenched and fists raised, stood defiantly between a shrieking blood-coated Ambipom and – oh merciful Arceus.

Helen tried to turn her head back, but she could not keep her eyes from the ghastly corpse that was once Lillith. The Scrafty lay on her back, her stomach torn wide open, innards halfway spilled out, and face marred unrecognizably by the Ambipom’s assaults. A spreading pool of blood ringed her corpse – wait, no, she was no corpse, Helen detected the slightest ragged breath! She searched harder, felt that bold desire to hold on just a little bit longer, that will to live, and the very same will Helen had detected far too often in her life. Lillith, dead? Helen wondered why she even bothered to play this sick game sometimes. Endlessly driven through exerting fights, friendships torn apart violently, what positives were there to the Factory? Helen began to feel the darkness coming on again, though, as she shouldn’t have exerted herself psychically so soon after waking. For Lillith’s sake, she struggled to hold on, but she still could not remember why she was laying on the bank of the moat…

Ambipom danced around impatiently, having calmed down a bit from her earlier frenzy. It is quite likely that she would have torn Lillith in two had Complications not intervened, and he still remained at guard over his Scrafty until the Chansey and nurses arrived. When they finally did, Complications kept a wary eye on Ambipom the entire time he helped them lift the broken Lillith atop the stretcher. He gave her one final reassuring squeeze on the hand and the most hopeful smile he could muster in these dark times, though he knew neither of them was recognized between the immense pain and her scarred eyes. He solemnly watched the nurses cart her off to the emergency Pokecenter for as long as possible before glaring back at Ambipom – however, something caught his eye at the edge of the arena.

Helen had finally come to, and she leaned exhaustedly on the edge of the moat, the slight current gently pulling her away from the edge. From the shocked, empty look on her face, Complications realized she had seen Lillith’s demise. Though her maiming bereaved him greatly, no doubt it had crushed Helen to an even greater extent. The dream of escape, so tangible and beautiful just minutes ago, was now scattered across the field like the widening pool of blood. Everything they had worked for was completely gone without Lillith and her unstoppable perseverance to push them along. Complications could go on living after this fateful day, no doubt changed, but Helen would be dragged back into the suffering and dread of a Factory slave. Her one chance had been thrown away by a sadistic Ambipom and an even more sadistic trainer. Her grip on reality, and on the edge of the moat, was slipping … eventually, she could grasp it no longer, and dropped into the moat.

A lightheaded, frail Alakazam’s swimming abilities and lung capacity leave much to be desired, and she quickly slips beneath the surface. A long few moments of silence pass before Complications notices Orcinus will not help; the demon of a man cares little for his own. Complications looks quickly at his remaining Pokeballs, a pang of guilt striking him as his eyes pass briefly over Lillith’s unoccupied ball. He makes his decision quickly, and lobs the sphere out over the field towards where Helen disappeared beneath the light waves.

“Go, Behemoth! Save her!”

Behemoth the Lapras lunges out of his Pokeball midair and crashes into the moat, diving with full force. Water sprays wildly as the massive creature hits the surface, and he fluidly dives down, pumping his flippers at full strength. Mere moments later, he breaks the surface again, Helen breathless and heaving for air atop his shell. He smoothly paddles over to the edge of the arena, and lays her down with his neck.

Helen lays inert, coughing up water occasionally. Sluggishly drifting in and out of consciousness, time loses its significance as her mind wanders idly as she lays on the grass, recovering from her near-drowning. Slowly but surely, Helen’s scattered short term memory begins to reconstruct the recent events – and her face darkens upon realizing Orcinus’s heinous crime. She remembers now how he had flung her feeble body across the arena in his soulless drive for conquest , and the sparks of an inner fire alight within her. The only thing stopping her from turning on him, from wrenching his mind with paralyzing visions of unimaginable horrors, is that damned microchip, holding her tightly in the Factory’s iron grip. In some far off corner of her mind, though, she recalls the inkling of kindness she discovered deep within the labyrinth of his mind, and searches desperately for an answer – how could one so kind have fallen so far?

Meanwhile, Orcinus calls Ambipom back to him, and she answers his call hesitantly, disappointed that her prey has left her. Upon seeing Complications unwillingly release Lapras, he had already prepared his next strategy, and now Orcinus slips Ambipom a small electric tazer. She giggles and hides it within a fold of fur on her other handtail. Orcinus answers her giggle with a wicked grin and looks back up the crowd. With everyone’s eyes on Behemoth’s rescue act, surely not a single eye in the crowd had seen him.

“Complications, my opponent. I see you have chosen your replacement for your dear Scrafty. Let us continue the battle, now.”

Complications scowls – he should have expected Orcinus to force his hand like this. Regardless, he hardens his expression, sets his feet apart, and readies for the upcoming battle. Behemoth rears his head and bellows loudly. Ambipom bounces eagerly on her handtails, careful to hide her new plaything. Orcinus looks down on the battle with indifference; and Complications glares up at his opponent with anything but indifference.

The hot sun of noon had left, leaving the battlers at the mercy of the impending cold. But perhaps night would never come. Nothing is forever, after all. One day the night must stop and the day must never end, just as flowers must wilt and rocks must erode. The planets wander through the emptiness of space--but they grow cold with loneliness, so they are attracted to each other, a sad walk of eternity with only their fellow prisoners for company. Gravity is but an inadequate explanation for...

But then Orcinus scoffed and spat on the ground. Love didn't exist, he knew, nor God, who abandoned us long ago like empty cars idling on the highway. Everything in the world was what we create or make. We are our own masters...

He sneered at the Lapras' act. The silly thing. It was a Pokemon in chains--and yet here it was, trying to save the world. But they all learn in time of the cruelness of reality.

The cold wind caressed his toned muscles, and he buttoned his shirt up to the collar. It was time to focus--the battle was closer than he would like. But his eyes wandered across the stadium, the people watching him, and he wondered if he knew anyone up there.

He ordered, and yet felt something unfinished. Orcinus stepped off his pedestal and paced around the dusty arena, waiting for his opponent to retaliate, but he was not truly concerned anymore.

It had been too long since he felt a woman's soul against his. Of course he had their bodies all the time, but he missed the time when he could reach out to a woman. Around them, the sky dimmed and the moon came out, shining her protection on the lover's embrace. The world around them grew cold and dim, but the two talked and shared secrets, hiding from sleep, keeping each other company through the darkness beyond. They fell recklessly in love, safe from the judgement of the world, experiencing the greatest joys of life...

Silently, he looked up at the sky, closed his eyes, and wished for the moon.

"I will admit, things are not looking up in this match, but that is besides the point. Behemoth, it's our turn!"
Bide-Hold-RELEASE THE KRAKEN!!!

The emergency room of the tournament arena is tucked away behind the standard Pokemon center, as it is usually never necessary. Most injuries require a quick jaunt in the healing machine, the odd dimensions of Pokeball technology speeding along recovery to mere minutes. More serious wounds take a few days resting in bed, tended dutifully by a Chansey/Nurse pairing. Lillith’s battering fell into neither of these categories.

The nurses were greatly concerned when they first rescued Lillith from the arena itself, but their worries only grew the more they performed first aid on the dying Scrafty. Nurses bustled around her stretcher as they pushed transported Lillith to the emergency room – a nervous Chansey sitting by her side, cooing softly in a meaningless attempt to comfort the unconscious Lillith. Even with all of the technology and power available to the tournament Pokecenter, could Lillith even be saved?

The medical staff quickly realized that complete recovery is impossible, and now they fall back on damage control, closing as many wounds as possible and keeping bleeding to a minimum. The emergency room is a buzz of activity as a full team of nurses, many requisitioned from other duties, toils away on Lillith’s broken body, struggling to stop the ample flow of blood. As with every emergency operation, a required Chansey stands resolutely over the patient, replacing the need for painkillers with her boundless compassion and empathy.

Isabelle the Chansey gravely looks over her ward, choking back tears as she tightly clutches Lillith’s limp hand. Of course, Isabelle has seen many a battlefield wound during her career – and although Lillith’s is among the worst, Isabelle had dealt with similar tragedies in the past. What truly hurts her this time is the glowing spot of kindheartedness that is Lillith’s heart. Chansey have the uncanny ability, perhaps even showing latent psychic talent, to detect and spread kindness, and Lillith is a bright nexus of this energy. In fact, Isabelle even mistook Lillith for a Chansey at first as she accompanied the nurses out towards the battlefield, because such understanding is usually only found in her kin. She squeezes Lillith’s hand, and sits by helplessly as the response team continues to work.

----

Behemoth dives beneath the light waves of the moat, coolly disregarding the screeching Ambipom. In the uninterrupted underwater calm, he takes a moment to check up on his wounds. Ambipom was unrelenting in her clawing assaults, and he winces at every crack in his reinforced shell. More importantly, how had she been shocking him? Behemoth knows that distinctive pain of electricity coursing through his water-infused body, and it is not one he is used to receiving from an Ambipom, of all unlikely sources. Had he caught a glint of metal in one of her handtails as they jabbed him at a blinding speed? Perhaps, though Behemoth can’t be sure without another round of rough combat to confirm his theories. He hardens his resolve and resurfaces to a resounding cheer from the crowd – its clear who they have chosen. Behemoth stretches his long neck, attempting to get a closer glimpse at what Ambipom is trying to hide….

Orcinus watches the Lapras carefully when it breaks the surface again, tracking Behemoth’s eyes precisely. He notices the obvious expression of realization and curiosity in the Lapras’s eyes, and instantly recognizes that he needs change of plans. If the dim-witted hulking beast figures out what’s hitting him so hard, Complications will likely have arrived at the conclusion long before. Orcinus can’t risk exposing Ambipom’s weapon; if he’s detained for cheating, all this trouble will have been for naught. There is a master ball with his name on it – he doesn’t intend to give it up because this Ambipom can’t properly hide her toys.

“Ambipom, return.”

Ambipom had been pouting in loneliness because Behemoth abandoned her, diving out of even her extended reach, and only is given the chance for a brief angry screech before she returns silently to the Pokeball. Orcinus looks over the other two, sneering at the sight of Helen’s empty Pokeball. He pulls out the third, unused as of yet, Pokeball, and tosses it out onto the field.

Amoonguss lands near the edge of the arena, close enough to the moat to duel with Behemoth. He refers to himself as Burton, though a name is meaningless without voices to call it. He looks up from underneath his cap at the towering ice-type above him, neither fear nor confidence betraying his blank expression. Burton drags his hands along the grass as he lilts closer to the edge of the moat, inspecting the current situation with bored disinterest. Will this battle be any different from the usual humdrum of the factory? Unlikely. Do factory trainers wistfully hope for revealing an Amoonguss in one of their treasured Pokeballs? Do they cater to it in the training battles, and love it as if it were their own? Do they send into hopeless situations with regret and a glimmer of faith, or with only hard expectations? Do they stand side by side in the Amoonguss’s final hour? Do they hold back tears as they return the factory Amoonguss to the vast storage warehouses, or toss it away in disgust?

If these statements ever find truth, Burton has certainly not been the Amoonguss to receive it, and he doubts he ever will. What is this battle, but another mindless path to miserableness? Maybe, it means something more to the other contestants. The trainer commanding his foes certainly seems hot-blooded, and Lapras , at the very least, is roused. Nevertheless, Burton slogs forward, resigned in his eternal fate.

"I could say a lot of things right now. I could moan and complain and come up with excuses, but in reality the fault of the poor display here (on my behalf) is my own. I forgot about the simplest of things, even those that I reminded myself not to forget. I had a bad battle and I will have to do better in the future, and that brings me to my current situation. It seems as though I am down to one remaining Pokemon, that being Girafarig. Abaddon, let's mop the floor with this guy's blood."
