Audino [QC: 0/3]

Overview
########
  • Mega Audino faces severe competition from Clefable, which nearly directly outclasses it.
  • Somewhat hard to justify the use of its mega stone, as better Pokemon can be used and again Clefable is there.
  • Lack of Leftovers recovery really hurts; furthermore, Mega Audino has a horrible ability in Healer, which has 0 uses.
  • However, Mega Audino is a lot bulkier than Clefable.
  • Can much more easily handle Latios and Keldeo.
  • Mega Audino is the ultimate Knock Off absorber, shrugging off any and all Knock Off.
  • Two weaknesses is always nice, along with a few nice resistances and immunity.
  • Audino's use directly lies in the fact that it can play mind games pre-mega evolving and is able to play these games with Poison-types, along with being able to spam Regenerator for health.
  • Normal-typing pre-mega is still pretty good for a defensive Pokemon.
  • Once again, struggles to stand out in a metagame with many other good defensive Pokemon.

Wall
########
name: Wall
move 1: Thunder Wave
move 2: Wish
move 3: Protect / Fire Blast
move 4: Dazzling Gleam / Hyper Voice
ability: Regenerator
item: Audinite
evs: 252 HP / 68 Def / 188 SpD
nature: Calm

Moves
========
  • Thunder Wave cripples almost all offensive attackers and is especially useful because Audino is able to live some powerful hits and proceed to cripple the opponent.
  • Wish and Protect provide recovery for Mega Audino, and it really doesn't have another mean.
  • Fire Blast is really useful to roast (hehe) Steel-types such as Ferrothorn and Scizor, but then Wish becomes semiunreliable.
  • Protect is really useful to gain bulk and provide room to mega evolve and scout for moves as well.
  • Dazzling Gleam and Hyper Voice are really the STAB choices that can be picked from; Gleam for great Fairy-type coverage and Hyper Voice for the added power, solid coverage, and ability to hit things behind Substitute.
  • Using Icy Wind is a viable option over Thunder Wave because it can slow down Garchomp and Landorus-T while providing somewhat consistent damage; but Thunder Wave is more useful all around.
  • Heal Bell could find its way onto this set, but Mega Audino is pressed for moves as it is.
  • Knock Off deserves a special mention because of its general utility, but this makes Mega Audino a large set up fodder for any Pokemon carrying Substitute.

Set Details
========
  • The listed EVs give Mega Audino the best all-around bulk, though they can be adjusted a bit for specific threats.
  • Running 68 Defense EVs give Mega Audino a small chance to be 2HKOed by Mega Gallage's Close Combat, allows it much more room to take hits like Landorus-T's Earthquake and Talonflame's Brave Bird, and still allows it to retain great special bulk.
  • With this high special bulk, Mega Audino can wall Landorus-I completely, something Clefable fails to do.
  • Running max HP investment also allows for some beefy Wishes which can be passed to a partner should the need arise.
  • Audinite allows it to mega evolve of course, while Regenerator is extremely useful pre-Mega Evolving.

Usage Tips
========
  • Mega Audino should always WAIT to Mega Evolve because it loses Regenerator upon doing so.
  • This can be abused to its fullest by pivoting with regular Audino.
  • Before Mega Evolving, Audino can also play mind games with Poison-types because it easily has the bulk to tank their hits which it could otherwise not do.
  • However, it can not Mega Evolve and gain Regenerator on the turn because of the way priority mechanics work; it would switch before Mega Evolving.
  • This has to be stressed: Mega Audino can take on both Keldeo and Latios, so be sure to take advantage of this.
  • Thunder Wave should be used on anything it can, spreading paralysis is very useful.
  • WishTect should be played warily, as something could take advantage of the Protect turn. Thus, using Wish ---> Thunder Wave is often beneficial. It's all about prediction.

Team Options
========
  • Ferrothorn has fantastic synergy with Mega Audino.
  • Basically, good partners for Clefable are often good partners to Mega Audino; this is usually Ground-types such as Landorus-T or Hippowdon.
  • Partners that stand a chance against Greninja are always appreciated, Assault Vest Kyurem-B in particular stands out.
  • Forming a Regenerator core with Amoonguss is nice as well, as the two have stellar synergy.
  • Because Mega Audino is spreading around Thunder Wave, Pokemon that are strong, slow, hard hitters are appreciated; Azumarill, Choice Specs Heatran, Swords Dance Scizor.

Other Options
########
  • Firstly, Heal Bell is really useful to rid Mega Audino and its teammates of status.
  • Calm Mind sets are actually quite impressive and hard to break through, but it's a bit hard to pull off and is better left to things like Mega Slowbro.
  • Mega Audino's movepool is quite expansive and has selective coverage ranging from Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, and even Surf!
  • Trick Room could be set as well, thanks to Mega Audino's high bulk; though Thunder Wave often fulfills the role of aiding slower teammates and is permanent.
  • Healing Wish is intriguing but could be used on Trick Room sets with Special Attack investment to utilize its coverage and then proceed to bring in a sweeper safely.
  • Shadow Ball is useful for its ability to hit Gengar.
  • Magic Count reflects Taunt which Mega Audino despises it but is somewhat risky to use.
  • Finally, Yawn deserves a mention because it is useful for shuffling the opponent.

Checks & Counters
########
  • **Steel-types**: Scizor, Ferrothorn, etc are resistant to Mega Audino's STAB moves and can KO with their own STAB moves; fear Fire Blast on the switch in, however.
  • **Poison-types**: Poison-types such as Mega Venusaur give Mega Audino trouble with their STABs, but fail to do much to pre-Mega Evolved Audino.
  • **Taunt**: Taunt prevents Mega Audino from utilizing its expansive support movepool.
  • **Status**: Toxic wears Mega Audino down extremely fast and is tampering with its ability to wall threats; this is where Heal Bell shines.
  • **Greninja**: Greninjas hates Thunder Wave but can KO easily with Gunk Shot.
