[17:12] @Electrolyte: Id like to write the BH Mega Mewtwo Y analysis
[17:17] &Eevee General: yea ok you wore me down

Initial QC Approvals: [2/2] [Kingslayer2779, nyan kat]
Final QC Approval: [0/1] [---]
GP Approvals: [0/2] [---, ---]

What's the plan?:

- I spoke with Eevee General, and we're going to try to integrate this analysis into the same page along with the Mega Mewtwo X analysis instead of just merging them both into one analysis, since, in BH, they're basically two different Pokemon. If there are any better ideas on how to handle this, feel free to suggest them!
- This thing can run a lot of sets, so here are a list of "viable" sets that Im not going to write an analysis for as of right now and the reasons why:
-- Contrary Psycho Boost (Chansey weak, other Pokemon do it better)
-- Mold Breaker / Teravolt (Mega Gengar does it better)
-- Simple Booster (Chansey weak, other Pokemon do it better, blissfully easy to revenge kill)
-- -ate (Just no)
- For now, I am going to try to group the two main types of Protean sets (Spooky Judgment and elemental sweeper) into one set. This means the slashing will be ugly, however, so if I dont think I can do it I'll have to split it into two sets. Protean has been split into two sets.
- Predicting that "Checks & Counters" section will be barren :^)

- - - - -

[OVERVIEW]

- 140 Spe and 190 SpA. bye
- With the highest SpA stat in the game and enough Speed to beat almost everything relevant, MMY is one of the most formidable Special Attackers in the metagame
- So many powerful offensive options to choose from makes MMY very versatile and unpredictable. Pokemon that can proudly claim to check or counter one set usually cannot say the same for another
- Decently bulky too, 106 / 70 / 120 is lacking physically but fairly bulky specially, allowing MMY to at least survive most even more powerful special attacks. With Protean, MMY can extend its bulk even further by changing its typing to allow it to resist faster attacks
- Despite all of this, Y still takes quite a battering from almost anything and cannot switch in easily, thus requiring defensive team support or something else to die
- It's so good and so common that almost every team will carry their own unique check / counter to beat it
- STAB of Psychic-type is not as widely applicable; it has some powerful Psychic-type options, but those are overshadowed by the better Protean sets, which dont care about initial typing and can therefore abuse a much wider variety of attacks more efficiently.

move 2: Secret Sword
move 3: Quiver Dance / Boomburst / Infestation
move 4: King's Shield
item: Spooky Plate
ability: Protean
nature: Timid
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

- Judgment is the main attacking move on this set. With Spooky Plate, it turns into a effectively 120 BP Ghost-type move, which, after boosted by STAB from Protean, is incredibly powerful and can hit a lot of threats in the metagame fairly hard.
- Judgment is also really useful as opposing Imposter Chanseys with Eviolite will retain the Normal-type Judgment, and if Mega Mewtwo's only other attacking move is Secret Sword, they wont be able to damage your own Spooky Plate Ghost-type MMY.
- In the second slot, Secret Sword should be used to hit Normal- and Dark-types that resist Ghost. With Secret Sword and Judgment, Imposter Chanseys will not be able to touch your Ghost-type MMY.
- Quiver Dance can be used in the third slot, allowing Mega Mewtwo Y to boost its stats, while still being able to avoid losing to Chansey. Boomburst is another option, as it is very powerful and reliable damage against Pokemon that resist Judgment and arent weak to Secret Sword (such as Mega Audino and Yveltal). Infestion could also be used, as a way to beat Shedinja, while still being Imposter-resistant.
- In the last slot, King's Shield is absolutely imperative, as it allows this set to beat -ate Pokemon one on one. Even if the opponent chooses not to use a contact move on the turn you protect yourself, MMY's typing will still be changed to Steel, so on the next turn any attempts to use priority -ate moves will deal half as much damage, giving MMY an easy opportunity to safely attack. It is also generally useful to weaken potential physical attacks.

Set Details
========

- Protean is the backbone of this set. Not only does it grant MMY STAB on all of its moves, significantly increasing their power, but it also enables MMY to change its own typing to resist attacks that the opponent might use, increasing MMY's longevity.
- Spooky Plate is vital for this set's success. It makes Judgment Ghost-type, not only giving Mega Mewtwo Y a reliable STAB attack, but also preventing opposing Imposter Chanseys from checking the set.
- Timid and 252 Spe EVs are essential, as MMY needs to be able to outspeed as many opponents as possible to be maximally effective. Then, SpA is maximized to maximize power, and the last 4 EVs are put into HP.

Usage Tips
========

- MMY is generally not bulky enough to be switching in freely, even against resisted attacks.
- Once Mega Mewtwo Y is in safely against an unthreatening opponent, then it can simply just launch off its strongest attacks (Judgment) or its least resisted attacks if there are any, depending on the situation. Usually it is powerful enough to 2HKO all Pokemon on your opponent's team besides walls, so serious prediction is usually not necessary.
- Use King's Shield if you predict a powerful physical move / priority move. It could potentially lower the opponent's attack stat, and also converts MMY's typing to Steel until it attacks again, giving it resistance (or at least lack of weakness to) the priority that it might be facing.
- Dont overuse KS though, as opponents might take advantage of the free turn to status you or set up.
- Try to scout your opponent's support Pokemon before using this set, as it is quite weak to Prankster cripplers. Switch out to avoid being statused if you suspect a Spore coming, as MMY can quickly be taken down once it is crippled.
- This MMY is a great late game cleaner, as it is very difficult to stop once its very few checks are eliminated.
- When using Spooky Plate and facing Chansey, try to stay in Ghost-type mode so it cant touch you. Only boost with Quiver Dance when the opportunity arises so you dont have to worry about winning the Speed tie, switch back to Ghost-type whenever you fear an attack, and attack with Secret Sword (which will deal more damage to a SpDef boosted opponent) to gradually take the Imposter down.

Team Options
========
- This set is fairly independent, and doesnt really require much offensive support.
- Bulky pivots like Registeel, Giratina, and Mega Audino, to use their slow pivot to bring MMY in safely. They can also provide cleric healing, and set hazards to check Shedinjas that wall sets without Magma Storm.
- PROTEAN MMY COUNTERS. Even the Judgment set can lose to Chansey with some poor initial luck or bad predictions, so it is important to have a backup plan to stop your own MMY if necessary. Prankster Spore can shut it down fairly quickly, or you can simply bring a neutral SpDef bulky Pokemon (PH Kyogre, Ho-Oh, Yveltal) to try to cripple it.
- Other powerhouse sweepers can help fill the holes in MMY's coverage. This set primarily functions as a late game cleaner, so wallbreakers and setup sweepers make great partners.
- Knock Off absorbers. Judgment loses its functionality without Spooky Plate, and LO set is significantly weaker without Life Orb (but still very powerful)
- Strong physical attackers (Contrary Pokemon) can help wear down Mega Audino and Fur Coat Chansey
- Mold Breaker partners for the Judgment set to check Shedinja

move 3: Earth Power / Magma Storm / Seed Flare

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

- Boomburst is the main attacking move on this set, and is incredibly powerful, as it is the strongest reliable special attack in the game, and provides plenty of raw damage, especially when boosted by Protean and Life Orb.
- In the second slot, Moonblast is used as Fairy-type coverage, allowing MMY to hit MMX and the many common Dark- and Dragon-types in the tier super effectively, as well as avoid taking damage from Dragon-type attacks that turn, and taking reduced damage from Dark-type attacks. Steam Eruption can also be used if you wish to be able to cripple switch ins and wear them down even faster, as the nice burn chance coupled with higher base power makes it very effective. It can also still hit Rock-types, should you choose not to run other coverage moves to hit them.
- Earth Power should be used in the third slot, as it has very nice coverage with Boomburst and Moonblast, hitting Steel- and Poison-types super effectively. It hits Rock-types as well, and is Mega Mewtwo Y's best offense against Mega Diancie. It makes Mega Mewtwo Y a very powerful wallbreaker, capable of getting past both Giratina and bulky Steel-types. Magma Storm can also be used in the third slot, providing even more powerful Fire-type coverage to hit Steel-types, and also has the added benefit of being able to KO Shedinja. Seed Flare is a useful choice for breaking through Water-, Rock-, and Ground-types. Its SpDef drop side effect can also allow you to easily break through opposing threats. It also grants you temporary Spore immunity against slower threats.

Set Details
========

- Protean is the backbone of this set. Not only does it grant MMY STAB on all of its moves, significantly increasing their power, but it also enables MMY to change its own typing to resist attacks that the opponent might use, increasing MMY's longevity.
- Safety Goggles makes Mega Mewtwo Y immune to Spore from Prankster users that try to shut it down. Life Orb can also be used to add an extra power boost to all of Mega Mewtwo Y's attacks, making it even more difficult to wall.
- Timid and 252 Spe EVs are essential, as MMY needs to be able to outspeed as many opponents as possible to be maximally effective. Then, SpA is maximized to maximize power, and the last 4 EVs are put into HP.

Usage Tips
========

- Unlike the last set, this set isn't built to deal with Chansey 1v1. Instead, it takes more of a hit-and-run role and nuke with specific coverage to deal with threats that your other team members have trouble breaking through. If there is a Chansey in the wings, however, try not to keep Mewtwo in for too long, as Chansey could switch in and punish.
- MMY is generally not bulky enough to be switching in freely, even against resisted attacks.
- Once Mega Mewtwo Y is in safely against an unthreatening opponent, then it can simply just launch off its strongest attack (Boomburst) or its least resisted attacks if there are any, depending on the situation. Usually it is powerful enough to 2HKO all Pokemon on your opponent's team besides walls, so serious prediction is usually not necessary. However, don't be afraid to switch out, as will often be necessary after a threat is taken down.
Switch out to avoid being statused if you lack Safety Goggles and suspect a Spore coming, as MMY can quickly be taken down once it is crippled.

Team Options
========
- This set is designed to offer offensive coverage support to other main sweepers, so there aren't really any offensive pairings that this specifically fits in. Instead, this set should be molded to match with other sweepers. Powerful sweepers that can take advantage of Mewtwo's extensive type coverage are always welcome, though.
- Bulky pivots like Registeel, Giratina, and Mega Audino, to use their slow pivot to bring MMY in safely. They can also provide cleric healing, and set hazards to check Shedinjas that wall sets without Magma Storm.
- MMY COUNTERS ARE ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL. This set will lose to Chansey almost all the time, so it is important to have a backup plan to stop your own MMY if necessary. Prankster Spore can shut it down fairly quickly, or you can simply bring a neutral SpDef bulky Pokemon (PH Kyogre, Ho-Oh, Yveltal) to try to cripple it.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

- You can justifiably run almost any type coverage on the Protean set besides the ones listed to cover certain threats.
- Another Protean set with Fist Plate, Judgment, and all Fighting-weak coverage such as Boomburst, Power Gem, Ice Beam, and Doom Desire). This is especially effective as Imposters wont be able to hit you effectively after you King's Shield, while you can always hit them super effectively with Judgment.
- No Guard set - with Lum Berry and Sing / Zap Cannon / Inferno / coverage. It can also run Dynamic Punch with a Naive nature and 4 HP EVs shifted to Attack. This set works very well as a momentum disturber, and can reliably status multiple Pokemon on the opponent's team.
- Tinted Lens + Future Sight - an incredibly powerful wallbreaking set that has very few switchins.
- Contrary, Psycho Boost / Overheat / Leaf Storm / Draco Meteor. No easy bulk or spe dropping Special moves unfortunately, so it's outclassed by the physical Contraries, and utterly Chansey / Shedinja weak. However, it is extremely powerful, and can 2HKO almost everything in the tier after just one boost.
- Simple / Non Simple + Setup moves (Shell Smash, Geomancy, Quiver Dance) is also an option, but again Chansey weak, and there are better Pokemon suited for that role because of MMY's poor typing.
- Random support moves like Spore can be used to surprise the opponent, but MMY already suffers enough from 4MSS

Checks and Counters
===================

**Priority**: Mega Mewtwo Y relies on its high Speed stat to overpower its foes, so priority is one of the best ways to take it down. -ate users such as Mega Diancie or Mega Rayquaza can easily KO it or force it out with their strong -ate boosted attacks. Gale Wings sweepers can also deal significant amounts of damage. However, contact priority moves are risky, as Protean MMY always carries King's Shield, allowing it to lower the attack of revenge killers, and even convert to Steel-type for a turn and resist the second iteration. Prankster Pokemon are also great checks to Mega Mewtwo Y. Topsy-Turvy users check sets that set up by reversing the stats, and Prankster Spore is a reliable way to shut it down temporarily, as it rarely runs items such as Safety Goggles or Lum Berry in favor of more offensive items. Once Mega Mewtwo Y is crippled, it is far easier to take down with a partner. Finally, Sucker Punch users such as Mega Tyranitar, Yveltal, Mega Gyarados, and Protean Mega Mewtwo X can also KO MMY provided enough prior damage was received.

**Imposter Chansey**: Imposter Chansey can check Mega Mewtwo Y with a little bit of Speed tie luck. Chansey beats the non Judgment set easily, easily forcing it out and gaining massive amounts of momentum. However, it loses to the Judgment set, unless it can get lucky with Speed ties.

**Speed**: Powerful Pokemon that can outspeed Mega Mewtwo Y can check it so long as they switch in safely. Deoxys-Attack and Mega Aerodactyl can outspeed and KO and, with the right coverage moves, can maneuver past King's Shield on Protean as well. Unfortunately, these Pokemon have limited viability elsewhere.

**Extreme Bulk**: It requires a lot of natural for a Pokemon to be able to tank Mega Mewtwo Y's hits for extended periods of time, but some Pokemon can do it. Fur Coat Chansey is an excellent example, as it shrugs off both Protean sets' attacks fairly easily, depending on the coverage, and gradually wear Mega Mewtwo Y down, or even revenge KO it with Metal Burst. Poison Heal Mega Audino is also an excellent check, as it can easily shrug off hits from the Judgment Protean set, phasing it out should it try to set up. Poison Heal Yveltal is a reliable check as well to the Judgment Protean set, as it can sponge Judgment and Secret Sword continuously, and can hit Mega Mewtwo Y hard with its STAB attacks.

**Knock Off**: Besides dealing super effective damage, Knock Off can cripple the Judgment set, removing the Spooky Plate that makes Mega Mewtwo Y's Judgment Ghost-type. Without its Spooky Plate, Mega Mewtwo Y struggles to even damage most Ghost-types, and Pokemon such as Giratina, Mega Gengar, Aegislash, or even Imposter Chansey can check it far more easily. However, due to its immense offensive presence, it is not always easy to successfully Knock Off Mega Mewtwo Y without risking losing a Pokemon.

**Shedinja**: Shedinja is a good check to the Judgment set if it lacks Infestation, and with Lum Berry, can check the non-Judgment set as well. It is important to scout Mega Mewtwo Y's set, however, before trying to confront it.

[SET]
name: HAX
move 1: Zap Cannon
move 2: Inferno / Magma Storm
move 3: Sing
move 4: Hurricane / Blizzard
item: Life Orb
ability: No Guard
nature: Timid
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

- This set takes advantage of No Guard to allow it to securely use powerful low accuracy moves that can guarantee status.
- Zap Cannon is very powerful, hits a large portion of the metagame for a fair amount of damage, and paralyzes, which makes faster threats easier to deal with.
- Inferno is strong Fire-type coverage, and also burns, which is perfect to weaken opposing physical attackers. Magma Storm can also be used, as it traps weaker bulky Pokemon, damages them residually, and even allows Mega Mewtwo Y to inflict an alternate status along with the residual damage
- Sing allows you to temporarily immobilize a foe. Unfortunately, it doesnt effect Soundproof users, but the ability to bypass Substitute makes it superior to Hypnosis, and the tradeoff is usually worth it.
- The last slot is for coverage. Hurricane is strong Flying-type STAB coverage and also has a decent confusion chance. Blizzard is strong Ice-type STAB coverage to hit Dragon-types and also has a small freeze chance.

Set Details
========

- No Guard is the basis of the set. With all of its moves now made 100% accurate, Mega Mewtwo Y can take advantage of some very powerful moves and their guaranteed side effects to not only deal damage but also disrupt momentum.
- Max+ Speed is almost essential; MMY's supreme Speed stat is part of what makes it so powerful, enabling it to move first and hit hard.
- SpA is then maximized to maximize damage. Remaining 4 EVs put into HP
- Life Orb powers up the attacks and makes MMY even harder to counter.

Usage Tips
========

- Select the appropriate status attack that is best suited to cripple the opponent.
- For example, use Inferno against Physical attackers to reduce their damage output, and use Zap Cannon against fast opponents to slow them down. Use Sing to buy yourself a few turns to chip away at the opponent's health.
- If running Magma Storm, use it to trap bulkier / weaker opponents that cant pivot out, so you can keep them in and nail them repeatedly. Or, use it on a predicted bulky Pokemon's switch in to start up the residual damage so you have an easier time KOing them later.
- The last slot doesnt guarantee status as reliably, and are usually only meant as strong coverage moves. Refrain from relying on them if there are still unstatused Poison Heal Pokemon in the opponent's team.
- This set is very good at disrupting defensive / offensive momentum of the opponent, and while it may not be able to deal as much direct damage as the Protean set can, an prolific No Guard MMY can easily open up the way for a sweep later by a teammate.
- Use it early on to quickly status and cripple the opponent's Pokemon. This is also suggested as the earlier on you use it, the less chance a Poison Heal Pokemon will have activated their Toxic Orb.
- Use Sing to bypass King's Shield. If facing a common Poison Healer such as Mega Tyranitar, Mega Gyarados, or Giratina, use Sing first turn, which will bypass King's Shield and put them to sleep before their Toxic Orb can activate.

Team Options
========
- Setup sweepers that can take advantage of the status and initial damage that this set can inflict upon the foe. Mega Gengar, Shift Gear PHers, Contrary sweepers, and Tail Glowers like TLens Dialga or GWings RayMega all complement this set's offensive coverage very well.
- Bulky pivots such as Registeel, Giratina, or Mega Audino can bring this set in safely with their slow pivoting. -ate checks are also almost definitely necessary, as this set loses to all of them, and cannot function efficiently when -ate users are still at high health. Registeel, Regirock, Aegislash, and Fur Coat Chansey can sponge those powerful hits. Some of them can tank status or heal it with cleric moves.
- Spore absorbers are useful, as Prankster Spore will shut down Mega Mewtwo Y immediately and make it vulnerable to revenge killing.
- NO GUARD MMY COUNTERS. This set is very susceptible to Imposter Chansey. Add your own Prankster Spore, cleric, or Poison Heal Pokemon to help mitigate any possible mirror damage your team might be forced to take.

Okay this analysis is pretty good, but its going to need some adjustments and some of the sets aren't optimal.

Overview:
  • Calling MM2Y's defensive bulky "decent" is kinda a stretch. Non Protean sets can't even live a -2 Extremespeed from physical invested Mega Ray. I would call it mediocre. Although it Special Defense is actually decent.
  • While it takes a battering from everything Physical, It can defeat special attackers like Kyogre (unboosted ofc) partly becuase of its Special Defensive bulk.
  • Nitpicking again, but Psychic STAB has some powerful options such as Psystrike, Future Sight, and Psycho Boost, so it isn't totally useless. It also isn't limited to just Protean, but Protean is simply so powerful it outshines every other set.
Set 1:
  • You should split the two Protean sets. Judgment is more or less a totally different set from standard 3 attacks+ King's Shield Protean. While the sets might seem the same since they both run Protean, they are different in several functions. The non Judgment set is not Knock off weak, but cannot 1v1 imposter. Judgment sets are the only sets to run Plates, and is generally built to 1v1 Imposter and win or have a very specific coverage hole patched by Judgment.. Also by separating Judgment and Non-Judgment Protean sets, you can slash more common coverage moves. It will also make it clear which set can run which moves, without having to say "MM2y can run X if not Judgment."
  • Expert Belt and Safety Goggles should be mentioned here. Both are viable on the non Judgment set, and some would say Safety Goggles is better then Life Orb.
Set 2
  • No Guard should be moved to "Other Options." While status can annoy Offensive threats, Protean sets generally just OHKO them. Protean is simply so effective it almost always outweighs the benefits of a No Guard set. Also, Poison Heal and Magic Bounce walls are fairly common, blocking some or all of the status No Guard sets can inflict. Protean is almost always a better wallbreaker. Also, the optimal item on No Guard is Lum Berry, which enables MM2y to status Chansey first.
Other Options:
  • There is also a Fist Plate set that can 1v1 Imposter by running all Fighting weak coverage. (Boomburst, Power Gem, Dark Pulse, Ice Beam, Doom Desire.) You should mention that here.
  • You should also mention Tinted Lens with Future Sight. It is a extremely underused set (made by flint of course), with very few switch ins.
  • Not Literally everything. -_-
Checks and Counters
  • Mega Manectric is unviable, so don't mention it
  • Mega Sceptile is barely viable, and it is hosed by MMY2's common coverage. It also doesn't OHKO, so don't mention it.
  • You forgot to mention the Protean set can block priority with King's Shield. Especially since Steel resists most common priority. I know you mentioned it earlier, just do it again for clarity.

Nice analysis! Just a few nitpicks.
First Set:
  • Slash Boomburst in slot 3. It retains MMY's semi imposter-proof status and hits certain Ghost resists hard. (Notably Audino, Yveltal)
  • Life Orb shouldn't be slashed as an item choice in a Judgment set.
  • First point in Usage Tips contradicts itself, I'd get rid of the 2nd part.
Second Set:
  • Mention in the second point that Moonblast also hits Dark types super effectively.
  • I wouldn't mention Earth Power hitting Poison types super effectively as there is only one this applies to. Maybe mention Mega Gengar specifically. I'll leave this to your judgment.
  • In usage tips, get rid of the second part of the second point.
  • I'd remove Steam Eruption from the second point of Team Options because it is not a reliable way to kill Shed, who usually carries Lum Berry.
  • In the third point of Team Options, I'd remove "with some poor initial luck or bad predictions" because you will be losing to a healthy Chansey in almost every situation.
Other Options: You need to explain more what some of the options do more. Specifics below.
  • In the second bullet point, Future Sight should be removed as it isn't weak to Fighting. You should mention that you always hit Imposters SE with Fighting Judgment while their options won't be effective against yourself after a KS.
  • Mention that the No Guard set statuses opposing pokemon reliably.
  • Mention that the Contrary set is a powerful nuke that can 2hko almost everything.

Meh I'm sorry I dont have the time to write this.

If QC is fine with waiting another like two weeks I'll get to it once I finish my first college app, but I cant afford to spend time on this now. This should probably be reassigned.
