Baton Pass - The Legacy

Status
Not open for further replies.
There are 3 [This is new, there were only 2 teams before] different versions of the team listed, please tell which one you think is best then any fixes you have on them, thanks.
Hi to all, my name's Matt. Recently I've began playing Pokemon again via Shoddy Battle, a few months ago (around March), I quit after my DS was stolen with my Diamond in it (containing a lot of EV Trained/Breed/Etc Pokemon, so I decided to just leave Pokemon in the past). Recently, I've been playing again on shoddy, my friend had asked me to play with him some and there forth, I was again addicted to the great game. Well anyway the concept of Baton Pass teams leading to dramatic chains leading to an epic win, or fail. I've been playing the past week or so, making the team better and better as I was introduced to a new flaw in the team. Although the sets/etc are pretty much standard on the team, it's the way each works together to form the chain, that matters. Any rates or fixes will be appreciated, but please, give reason to why you would change it.

TEAM VERSION 1

The Team as a whole

@ Lum Berry
Calm - Pressure
252 Hit Points/ 112 Speed/ 146 Special Defense
Agility
Baton Pass
Substitute
Thunderbolt

Zapdos is the lead Pokemon on the team. Lum Berry is to take care of 1st turn sleepers/etc, while giving me a free Agility/Substitute. Thunderbolt is for an attack + STAB and Baton Pass is obviously for...passing. Lum Berry does more than just ensure a good set up from the start, it also gives Zapdos as a good pass target late game when I don't have a sub up (and have a Pokemon that can't make a sub) so that I can pass to Zapdos and let the berry take the status while Zapdos sets up the needed sub from there.

@ Leftovers
Jolly - Own Tempo
252 Hit Points/ 4 Defense/ 252 Special Defense
Baton Pass
Ingrain
Spore
Substitute

Smeargle is a must for all Baton Pass teams - being the only Pokemon that can both Baton Pass + Ingrain. Ingrain renders Roar and Whirlwind useless, being the teams biggest downfall. Substitute is there to create protection for when I pass back out and Spore is so that I can easily get Ingrain working.

@ Leftovers
Impish - Swarm
252 Hit Points/ 104 Defense/ 152 Speed
Baton Pass
Iron Defense
Iron Head
Swords Dance

Scizor comes next, covering - Physical - aspect needs to the team. Setting up Iron Defense is really crucial, because it allows me to take my time setting up the entire thing on my opponent - since they're moves won't be doing much to me after 2 or 3 of those. Swords Dance is the key to the team, pumping up the sweeper (Lucario) up for the win. Iron Head is here for an attack, and a damn good one at that.

@ Leftovers
Calm - Water Absorb
192 Hit Points/ 252 Defense/ 64 Speed
Baton Pass
Ice Beam
Roar
Substitute

Vaporeon - creator of MASSIVE subs. Ice Beam for an attack and also to take out that Garchomp/Salamence that begin pestering me while I'm setting up. Substitute because...Vaporeon is just the bomb when it comes to it and Roar > Wish..shockingly. Through my experience with the team, it was really complicated to set up a successful Wish that I felt would help more than hurt, and then I realized that Roar is much better for the team. Roar does the following:

--Knocks other Baton Pass teams off their feet (because I've yet to play another one that runs Roar/Whirlwind and they don't set up protection because they don't expect it).
--Kills set up Pokemon.
----I've noticed that while trying to set up the chain, the opponent would start bringing in things like Suicune/Cresselia/Etc to start using Calm Mind/Curse/Swords Dance/Etc, and making it quite a hazard to my team due to the powerful hits they would cause after setting up, Roar just straight up screws them over, and bad.

@ Leftovers
Calm - Soundproof
252 Hit Points/ 100 Defense/ 152 Special Defense
Baton Pass
Calm Mind
Grass Knot
Thunderbolt

Mr. Mime - The Deaf Clown. Used to block off a quick Roar when predicted, just incase Ingrain isn't set up yet. Calm Mind's multiple times (combined with Iron Defense for incredible defense), also pumps it's own attacks quite high along with making Lucario's Hidden Power - Ice all the more deadly. Grass Knot cover bulky waters/ground like Swampert. While Thunderbolt hits the big Gyarados who tends to Taunt me.

@ Expert Belt
Naughty - Inner Focus
252 Attack/ 196 Speed/ 60 Special Attack
Bullet Punch
Close Combat
Crunch
Hidden Power - Ice

Ahh yes, the sweeper. Well first of all, Lucario was picked because he can attack from both Physical and Special, and be a fear sum competitor at the same time. His typing + brute attacking force is what makes him one of the top notch choices. He's got decent Speed, a lot of Attack, and has resistances against a lot of things, including Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes, which is what really counts - along with Sandstorm of course. Bullet Punch (maybe taking it off, not sure), Close Combat, Crunch, and Hidden Power - Ice for a great 4 move pool.

@ Leftovers
Calm - Aftermath
80 Hit Points/ 176 Speed/ 252 Special Defense

Substitute

This thing is WONDERFUL! It's so awesome to Agility with Zapdos on a Bronzong/Azelf that uses Stealth Rock then Baton Pass to this when they Explode (like 90% of the time the person does it from my experience to break the chain off quickly...or try to at least =P). Creating the biggest, bulkiest subs over every other Pokemon, makes quite a hassle to go through. Stockpile is just...another wonderful aspect. Hide behind a sub with +2 Speed, Stockpile'ing while they try to break the sub/switch, then reset the sub and continue till it hits 3, then pass it on. Just a great Pokemon.

@ Expert Belt
Adamant - Pure Power
4 Hit Points/ 252 Attack/ 252 Speed
Baton Pass
Brick Break
Ice Punch
Thunder Punch

Well here it is, Medicham. Brick Break/Ice Punch/Thunder Punch I've found to OHKO every Pokemon after +6 (3 Swords Dance) Attack. Baton Pass makes it so that I can get to him early if I need him to take care of a threat that's forcing a big hassle to get the chain working smoothly.

The difference between this team and the other 2 is that I can continuously Baton Pass between my Sweeper and my support at will, allowing me to make the Sweep more smooth.

Is it just me or do all Baton Pass teams look the same?

In order to stop stuff like Heatran from raping your team, you'll want Surf over Roar on Vaporeon. Trust me, do you really want the only thing that can handle Heatran to not be able to even touch him?

Your EVs seem kinda arbitrary. Care to explain them?

Havne't really ran into Heatran as much of a problem yet...Roar is really vital though on Vaporeon.

Zapdos - Hit Points and Special Defense have it for a longer life/etc, while the speed EV's allow it to outrun everything (except maybe uncommon scarf users like Weavile) after one Agility.

Smeargle - Hit Points and Special Defense because it needs a longer life, emphasis on Special Defense because Defense is pumped so easily by Scizor

Siczor - Hit Points and Defense for longer life, Speed to be able to outrun everything except uncommon scarf users like Weavile after 1 Agility.

Vaporeon - Hit Points and Defense for longer life, Speed to be able to outrun most things after 1 Agility.

Mr. Mime - Hit Points, Defense, and Special Defense for longer life.

Lucario - Attack for max attack, Speed for outrunning everything (except uncommon scarf users) after 1 Agility, Special Attack to make HP - Ice powerful enough to KO after 2-3 Calm Minds.

Is it just me or do all Baton Pass teams look the same?
The answer is either yes, or they just stole Obi's team such as the guy did in another thread below this.

Honestly Gliscor would be the better lead due to the fact that it can Taunt, and give you some extra Tyranitar coverage if you need it. However, if you do this it would be exactly like Obi's Baton Pass team.

You should also replace Swords Dance on Scizor with Substitute since a critical hit is a Baton Pass teams worst nightmare. You can then change Lucario into a pure special sweeper since a +6 SpA Aura Sphere, Dark Pulse, and Psychic will OHKO everything in the game other then Mantine, whom you shouldn't be running into. You could use Vaccume Wave or Hidden Power [Ice]/Dragon Pulse in the last slow.

I'm unsure of Gliscor, I just like Zapdos, I dunno why...I'll try it for sure though (but then I'll just be called a copy cat to Obi...)

The idea is good but the only thing I hate about that is doing 6 Calm Mind's takes a bit of time, and that might induce a problem in it's own.

Well an easy way around this would be to replace Substitute on Smeargle for Spider Web. This can pretty much guarantee you a victory if you manage to trap something like a Blissey or Bronzong.

fun fun fun

If you were to change your spread to 252 HP/112 Spe/146 SpD, you would have the ability to outrun Scarf Gengar. Without the extra Spe EV's, you would be risking Scarf Gengar using Hypnosis while you Agility, and then Hypnosis again since it would outspeed you.

Good strategies are very well made, but with Taunt I don't know if serves and why don't put to Lucario another nature?

Please somebody can going to be rater my offensive team?

Why is your Lucario Adamant? ;)
Oops? I forgot to change it >.< *edits*

Ok thanks, I'll make that changes

Taunt is a hindering factor but the average Taunt-er can be killed with attacks when predicted right (IE Pass to Mr. Mime when Gyarados sets up taunt, TBOLT to kill it, etc). And the Nature is off because I forgot to change it, I was in a hurry when I did it so...Also, give me a link to the team...

Since you're using HP Ice on lucario, either make it naughty or lonely (for set 1).

Other than that, this looks good.
