Battle in a dusty field! DetroitLolcat vs. Galladiator! (reffed by Flamestrike)

Brandon sat at the edge of the field, watching Boulderstrike, his new Larvitar, munch on a few rocks. Bored, he checked out the rules for the upcoming match.

"Huh, a Beginner Battle. That's new," Brandon said to himself. Hearing a noise, he looked up to see Lolcat arriving. Greeting the trainer, he looked around. The arena was just a dusty field, with a pond in the middle, presumably so Water-type Pokemon would be able to fight at full effectiveness. Before long Lolcat's opponent, Galladiator, arrived, and while they made their final preparations Brandon looked over their teams.

DetroitLolcat:

Scyther, Male
Nature: Adamant,(Adds One (1) Rank to Attack; Subtracts One (1) Rank From Special Attack)

"Looks like Lolcat only had two Pokemon to bring. That gives Galladiator a bit of an advantage, but that Scyther looks strong. Should be an interesting match." Seeing the trainers were ready, Brandon quickly went over the order of operations with them. "Alright guys, here's how it works. Lolcat will send out his Pokemon, then Galladiator will send out his and issue its actions. Lolcat will give his orders, and then I'll figure out what happened and update you guys. Then Lolcat will give his orders first, followed by Galladiator, I'll figure stuff out again, and we'll keep going with you guys alternating who gives orders first. Also, don't forget to declare your Pokemon's ability when you send it out! That's it, let's get going!"

Okay, then! Well, the choice of Pokemon seems obvious as if I send out Larvitar I get mauled by a Treecko. Go, Scyther!

I declare for the ability Technician to be used. What a shocker!

...and you'll still get mauled by a Treecko! Go, Ness!

Okay, Scyther, he thinks Rock Slide is an advantage? Show him the error of his ways!

First, I want you to prepare for the assault and counter his first Rock Slide! Next move, follow up with a Technician boosted Wing Attack and then turn his attack around with another counter!

The trainers each chose their first Pokemon, with Lolcat sending out Scyther while Galladiator sent out Ness the Treecko. Despite being faster, Scyther decided to wait for Ness to move. Ness obliged, hitting Scyther with a powerful Rock Slide! However, Brandon noticed that Scyther had a reddish glow to him, and realized what Scyther had done. Sure enough, he turned the attack right back onto Ness as a powerful Counter! Wasting no time, he then followed up with a painful Wing Attack, laying the hurting on poor Ness! The Treecko responded, and while a shout of "PK Fire!" could be heard in the distance, the attack was actually a Hidden Power Fire! The blow also caught a weak spot, scoring a critical hit! Again Scyther waited for Ness's attack, and again Ness went for a Rock Slide! But this time, the attack broke Scyther's focus, and he flinched! "Time to see how the Pokemon are doing," Brandon said, beckoning Boulderstrike to come along with him.

"Ness got a few lucky breaks, but it doesn't look like it'll be enough to take down this Scyther. Still, he did some pretty good damage." Boulderstrike nodded enthusiastically as he continued to bite on a rock. Brandon petted him as he waited for the trainers to give their next set of commands.

DetroitLolcat, you're up!

Well, Ness, you did your job. We'll get you Agility after this battle, but for now:

Scyther decided to try to not give Ness a chance to attack and smacked him hard with a Wing Attack! Ness teetered, but managed to stay up and fire another Rock Slide! The blow flinched Scyther yet again, and Ness took advantage to hit Scyther with a final Rock Slide before Scyther finally finished him off with a Wing Attack! As Galladiator recalled his Treecko and congratulated it on a job well done, Brandon checked to see how Scyther, who looked worse for wear, was doing.

"Treecko did a pretty good job against Scyther," Brandon mused. "Scyther's a strong Pokemon though. Even as low on health as it is, it could do a lot of damage before going down." Turning to the trainers, he said, "OK, Galladiator will send out his final Pokemon and order, then Lolcat can order!"

Galladiator, scowling, sent out Electra the Eevee to replace Ness, and despite being weak Scyther welcomed it to the field with a powerful Brick Break! However, instead of quickly trying to finish off the Scyther Electra went for a Tickle! "That might weaken Scyther, but not a whole lot, and the longer it stays alive the more damage it does to Electra," Brandon thought to himself.

Using his low health to his advantage, Scyther nailed Electra with a strong Reversal! However, yet again the Eevee didn't attack, instead going for a Work Up to prepare for later! This prompted Scyther to attack with another Brick Break, and Electra finally retaliated with a Shadow Ball, but even with its boost Scyther stayed standing, and Electra wasn't looking much healthier than the Scyther any longer.

As both trainers willed their Pokemon to find the energy to continue fighting, Brandon watched intently with Boulderstrike at his side, wondering who would come out on top. Scyther struck first, nailing Electra hard with a Reversal, using his low health to his advantage! Desperate, Electra replied with a Hidden Power Ice, but the Scyther barely stayed standing and finished off the Eevee with a final Reversal! As Galladiator solemnly recalled Electra and Lolcat congratulated Scyther for its excellent effort, Brandon thanked both trainers for the battle and congratulated Lolcat on his win.

GG.

We both get 2 TC and some ECs for our homeboys. Had Electra evolved before the battle, it wouldn't have been allowed in a Beginner Battle, no?

I know, I was just kidding. Maybe if I'd picked Electra to go out first...

But what's done is done, and it was a helluva lot of fun.
