It has been a while ever since I did one of these:

5vs5 Strongmons Singles
Serious Business
Item: ON
Subs: 3
Mega: 1
5 Chills/2 Recovery
Switch: OK
Arena: IAR's The Type Changing Arena
Arena: The Type Changing Arena
Field Type:
Neutral
Complexity: Moderate
Format: All

Restrictions: No Restrictions

Description: Basically a simple arena, but something strange happens, where at the end of each round, all active Pokémon have their Type Changed, decided through RNG Rolls. Only a Single Typing with the Type Change, to reduce complexity. Pokémon start with their normal typing for the first round they are in.

Summary: Basically ASB Arena with a Type Changing Mechanic, nothing too difficult.

Special Note: If this arena is chosen for a battle using arenas such as TELEPORTATION! for the arena, do not roll for Typing at all, i.e. this arena has no effect.

Uh, dropping out of Avnomke's reffing in order to make another battle. This time I'm showcasing...another idea for a Normal gym arena. Credit to dogfish for the inspiration.

2v2 FE Singles (Maxim brings 5 Normals)
2 Day DQ
3 Subs
All Abilities
Items=ON
Switch=OK
Arena: Top Secret 2
This one's even more secret than the last one! Isn't that nice?

Effects:
  • All Items and Abilities must be kept Normal in the Normal gym. Basically this means that no effects, abilities, or items can change, disable, knock off, or switch items or abilities on any Pokemon.
  • If a Pokemon is forced out by a Switch-Forcing Move or a Red Card, that Pokemon's trainer can choose which Pokemon goes in next.
Codifications:

  • Camouflage turns the Pokemon into a Normal Type.
  • Secret Power has a 30% chance to Flinch.
  • Nature Power summons Tri Attack.

Throwing the gauntlet at Rainman Legends because he's in the Flying Qualifiers. I'm definitely super under-prepped since I still lack an Aero, a Tomo, a Gliscor and a Cawm, but I probably won't be around long enough for those. No time better than the present!

4v4 Doubles
3-day DQ
Switch = KO
Abilities = ALL
Items = Mega Stones and Training Items only
2 Substitutions
2/5 Recoveries/Chills
2 Mega-Evolutions

Arena = Zt's Flying Gym Concept: Skydiving
Field Type: Flying
Complexity: Complex
Format: All

Flavour: (skip this part and jump to Mechanics if you want to save time)

This has got to be one of the most ridiculous Gyms you've ever challenged. Usually you'd get the location from the League secretariat, waltz right in and challenge the Leader, but this time, you find yourself spending 2 weeks just to practice for the big day. Thank goodness it was all sponsored - you wouldn't be able to fork out the fees otherwise. You have clocked about 30 hours in the wind tunnels, twice the time doing cardio and strength workouts, and you pretty much climb to your bed each night sore and exhausted. But little by little you find yourself actually enjoying this, especially the practice jumps over the weekends.

The day finally came. You met Zac Tee, the head instructor, and along with your assigned instructor, the three of you checked your gears before loading up into a helicopter. As the pilot pulls the helicopter up and away, revealing the breathtaking vista, you rehearse the dive in your mind repeatedly, your hands gripping you Pokeballs, the lightweight backpack on your shoulders, flaps of skin under your arms. All too soon the helicopter slows down, and the pilot said that you have reached the thirteen thousand feet height. As your instructor holds the door open, Zac Tee leaned over and yelled in your ear,

"Right, you ready for this?"

You gave him the thumbs up, which he returned before bailing out of the helicopter, with you following suit.

Wind whistling in your ears, gravity making it seem like you left your stomach back inside the helicopter, before you opened your arms and legs wide, the glider suit extending fully to let the air resistance slow you down. Somehow, your Pokemons are already out of their Pokeballs, being right there beside you as you made your way towards Zac Tee's team. You remembered his words when he accepted your challenge,

"Alright then, you're in for one incredible ride of a lifetime!"

Mechanics:
  • No seismic moves, no rock source, no water source, no plant source.
  • Default is Clear Weather, and can only be changed to Sunny. Rain, Hail, Sandstorm and Fog are NOT allowed, even with respective Weather Rocks.
  • "Pokemon capable of flight" are defined as Pokemon who either:
    • are naturally Flying-type.
    • naturally learn the move Fly (excluding event moves).
    • use Transform or Imposter to fulfil any one of the above criteria.
  • "Pokemon incapable of flight" are defined as Pokemon who do not fulfill any of the above criteria. Tactics that include Camouflage, Protean, Mimic, and the like will NOT exempt Pokemons from this category.
  • This is a Sky Battle. However, Pokemon incapable of flight are allowed to battle at their own expense.
  • A full list of prohibited moves during the Sky Battle can be found here.
  • For the sake of a fair battle, both sides must remain in close enough vicinity that all moves will not be restricted by anything other than those already mentioned above. Eg. Your Pidgeot is not allowed to fly far away and evade Conkeldurr's Ice Punch unless your Pidgeot actually uses Fly.
  • At the end of the third round of battle, both Trainers will land on the ground. For the sake of brevity, any active Pokemon incapable of flight will be automatically KO'ed as they plummet to the ground.
  • Active Pokemon incapable of flight may only survive the above by:
    • Having the Levitate ability.
    • Being able to perform the Levitate Command (it would not be necessary to actually use the Levitate Command in battle).
    • Spending 1 action every round using Telekinesis, Magnet Rise, or similar moves to slow their free fall.
    • Note: Tactics that include Skill Swap, Role Play, and the like will NOT exempt Pokemons from this category.
  • By the start of the fourth round of battle, the arena changes to Skydiving: Part Two.
Codifications:
  • Camouflage turns the Pokemon into a Flying Type.
  • Secret Power has 30% chance of lowering Evasion by one (1) stage.
  • Nature Power calls Air Cutter.
Field Type: Flying
Complexity: Simple
Format: All

Flavour: (skip this part and jump to Mechanics if you want to save time)

Despite your concerns, you managed to touch down safely by the lake, the parachute falling to a heap as you unbuckle the straps and shrug off the harness. Your Pokemons seemed a little more worse for wear - the Sky Battle you just went through was not an everyday experience. However, it is not over yet.

Zac Tee jogged towards you, having similarly freed himself from his contraptions. You two stood apart, and he asked, "That was one heck of a ride, isn't it? Still planning on continuing the fight?"

You nodded, your feet back on solid ground.

"Then let's do it!"

Mechanics:
  • The battle continues from Skydiving: Part One to this one by the start of the 4th round.
  • Default is Clear Weather, and can only be changed to Sunny. Rain, Hail, Sandstorm and Fog are NOT allowed, even with respective Weather Rocks.
  • Otherwise, battle resumes as if the arena is a standard ASB Arena, with no other added effects.
Codifications:
  • Camouflage turns the Pokemon into Grass type.
  • Secret Power has 30% chance of lowering Evasion by one (1) stage.
  • Nature Power calls Razor Leaf.

It's about time I started some more battles here. I'll take both of VirajVora's hax arena challenges.

Both of them will be 2v2 babysitter singles (1 FE, 1 LC). Items allowed. All other rules are standard.

2v2 Singles (1 FE, 1 LC)
3-day DQ
Switch = Allowed
Abilities = ALL
Items = All
2 Substitutions
No Mega Evolutions.
Arena: VirajVora's hax arena.
Anything not specified is standard.

Beyond that, I would like to put up a challenge of my own, in a lesser-used format.
4v4 middlesitter doubles. In other words, (2 NFE, 2 LC).

SPECIAL RULE: One of my 2 NFE pokemon is a Chansey. If you aren't going to use a NFE which makes it into the viability rankings, I will be willing to weaken Chansey by not giving her an item, so as to make her inclusion against non-viable NFEs fair.

4v4 Doubles (2 NFE, 2 LC)
3-day DQ
Switch = Allowed
Abilities = ALL
Items = All.

So, are the guinea pigs ready to start?

Just about, Ms. Van Houten. We're doing SM testing too, right?

Two birds with one stone. What do they have on the list?

The bhante's got a Gardevoir, but half of Schmitt's team is compatible, including a Charizard.

I really wish we could do more than one at a time...Wait, Isn't she a little young to be testing this?

Not quite 18 yet, but we've got a waiver. Not that I think we'll need it, of course.

If you say so. How many more rocks do we have to go?

Aside from those of our two guinea pigs, Venusaurite and Lucarionite. There's a Venusaur on the volunteer list, but nobody with a Lucario.

If we can't find one in a couple of days, I know one personally. Keep looking though; the sooner we can finish the mega glove, the sooner that prick Tsuwa-*ahem*...the sooner we can beat Devon in the market.

Zheng! Time for an asswhoopin!

6v6 FE Singles
1 mega (Pre-ORAS only)
2 subs
2 day DQ
All Items
Switch = OK
2 recoveries/5 chills
Arena: Mnemonikos SM research lab
Complexity: Medium

You meet up with what looks like another Trainer at the lobby of the Sumshadagrene main office branch, belonging to a largely unknown company that manufactures and distributes TMs and HMs to Pokemon Trainers and Professors alike. Led by your host, a high-level researcher of the company, into a medium-sized battling simulation room, he then tells a little story.

"Now, some of us at Mnemonikos have always wondered - what it would be like for Pokemons to know moves that they will never know? What it would be like, say, for an Aerodactyl to learn Head Smash? Or for a Scizor to learn Bulldoze? Now here's the chance! Mnemonikos is developing a new range of products called Special Machines, or SM for short, and now's an opportunity to test them out! Of course, we're looking for an extensive experiment, so we will grant the team with weaker Pokemons a little extra to help them deal with the stronger opponents. Have fun, and be sure to use the handheld recorder we give to you for any independent observations and deductions!"

Summary:
- When a Pokemon is first sent out, the player may or may not select one (or more) move that is currently not on the Pokemon's movepool. That move will then be available for the duration of the whole battle. (Eg. A can send out Azumarill, and then declare that his Azumarill has access to Earthquake).
- Players and referees will compare the average BRT of each participating team. The team with the lower BRT average gets extra access to moves equal to the difference, round normally (so if A has a team with an average BRT of 20.4 playing against B, whose team's average BRT is 21.9, each of A's mons can pick 2 more moves for the battle).
