Just a repeat what those beautiful people nerds said, stat-boosting moves aren't really good in asb as they are in-game, except the ones that have flavour effects to them like Barrier and Acid Armour, but in this case. Barrier wouldn't be so helpful

Your sub won't activate because Abra is faster than Pawniard as well as Dodge is a priority move, and Chance Subs cant 'time travel' or cant activate before the event happens if that makes sense. Subs are sorta confusing at first, but asking around in discord or checking the Handbook are always great places to gain a better understanding of them.

Not to mention, Dodge isn't a great move you want to use all the time, it's sort of a last resort move or, just like Stat-boosting moves, are very situational like avoiding Encore

TLDR
Stat-Boosting moves are situational, not something you wanna use as your main actions unless opponent cant do anything.

Chance Subs are weird and do not time travel.​

  1. Although you're subbing for the right thing, the "(a2)" means i get to use it action 1 without any issue.
  2. Again, Dodge isn't the useful move to use in that sub. I mean sure it's get the job done you wont be hit by Sucker Punch, but you can use Even though Abra's movepool is super smol Chill to regain en.

  • There's always something to sub for. Even if you think you dont, you always do.
  • That being said let's introduce you to one powerful move called Bide. This is one of the top 5 things that needs to be paid attention to (though there are cases here and there that makes the top 4 none important like for example Bide when youre using a ghost type unless the have scrappy)
  • Most efficient way of avoiding bide is using the sub "IF Bide a1 THEN Protect a3" simple as that~

  • Bide isn't the only thing that can ruin a players strategy, moves like Mirror Coat, Magic Coat, Counter, Torment, Disable, Imprison, Endure and Encore are one of the most important moves to pay attention and make a sub for.
  • Another thing to watch out for is Damaging/Evasive moves, or D/E. This category includes moves like Dig, Fly, Dive, Bounce, Shadow Force, Phantom Force. Unlike ingame where you have to spend 2 turns, in asb theyre considered as moves with two parts in one action: the first part is an evasive stage which is at 0 priority, and the second part is the damaging part of the move at -2 priority or -1 priority(Depending on the move). These moves are pretty dangerous if not taken serious.
  • Finally, wanna remind ya: Dodge isn't a move a player should be relying on every so often. I mean don't get me wrong, if it works successfully and you avoid a move, that's great and all but Dodge with an FE mon isn't going to happen as often since theyre so huge and fat and it is really only meant to be used to avoid moves like once again Encore and should be a last resort move more than anything.
