[Battling 202 Test Run - Doubles] Mentor Frosty vs Pupil Dogfish44

Typing "pupil dogfish44" felt wrong. But oh well

Rules:
4v4 Doubles
ASB Arena
Strict 96h Disqualification. One warning per player. If pupil gets DQ'd twice, he can be kicked out by tutor. If tutor is DQ'd twice pupil may ask for replacement.
2 Recoveries / 5 Chills per Pokémon.
Three Substitutions per player excluding KO Substitutions.
Switch = OK
Abilities = ALL
Items = ON
Mega: One
Sendout = Tutor sends out first.

Special Battling 202 Mentorship Rules:
The twist is: any and every move made by pupil must be justified. And if the Tutor doesn't accept the justification or knows of an action-set that accomplishes the same more efficiently, he may demand the pupil to reorder, resend the team, send out a different pokemon or a different item, or to explain further his strategy, until the tutor is satisfied. Yes, this means that "surprise" won't be a good strategy to use here, simply because of how unreliable that is. The tutor won't need to justify whatever, so surprise remains a good option for him.

Terrible repetitive plays from the pupil may cause the tutor to call a DQ, with the approval of the Manager of the course This program is for mildly experienced players. If you don't much idea of how things work, then the best way to fix it is with practice, not this program. Same way: if you are bringing your A-Game, then why bother?

Let's begin with an easy opening

Puppet Ganon the Banette with Banetite

Agahnim the Deoxys-D with Focus Sash

Alright, so opening mons. I don't want to open with Aegislash - Wide Guard will be very useful when it comes to handling that Aerodactyl of yours, and Banette would 3HKO it with Phantom Force -_-

For me, that leaves Archeops, Tomohawk, and Gardevoir. Archeops seems pretty much a given - pressure from Rock Slide is inherently useful.

So, Tomo or Garde? Garde struggles vs p.much your entire team, but Tomo doesn't exactly have a good matchup. Tomo and Garde have situational responses to Aero, but Tomo can more reliably set up Tailwind (Which given you're not going Mega Aero (Unless itemless Banette, but that'd be unexpected at best), is very helpful - means Tomo can beat the flinch range rather easily). That means Gardevoir is better off leading for us!

Archeops w/Plume Fossil and Gardevoir w/Gardevoirite open proceedings!

Of the abilities, I can't see any reason to take Frisk (We don't break Focus Sash), Insomnia (Useless), or Pressure (Use Impaired). Cursed Body makes your life slightly more awkward, so is the avenue I'll take

Gardevoir: Trace Cursed Body

And now actions! Opening action chains avoid Torment and Imprison, with subs around Disable + Cursed Body shenanigans.

Gardevoir's subs enable Gardevoir to get around some of the most damaging plays you could make - notably removing Pixilate would be a pain, so it is now rather difficult for you. Archeops should apply enough pressure to your team, which is reliant on single-targetting attacks from what I can see.

Neither of your mons are KOed, but they are very adequately weakened, which should be the primary aim in this case. It's rather difficult to be much more creative in goals in this case (Especially since Deoxys is evil, j/s)

Archeops: Rock Slide ~ Heat Wave ~ Rock Slide
IF your attack is disabled when you are to act THEN Earthquake
IF Banette is under the effect of a Protective/Evasive action THEN Knock Off (Deoxys) AND restart the queue
IF Deoxys is under the effect of a Protective/Evasive action THEN Crunch (Banette) AND restart the queue

Gardevoir [MEGA EVOLVE]: Dazzling Gleam ~ Icy Wind ~ Dazzling Gleam
IF Taunt (Gardevoir) THEN Magic Coat AND restart the queue
IF Skill Swap AND NOT Skill Swap on the next action AND NOT Skill Swap on the action prior THEN Protect AND restart the queue
IF you have Pixilate, THEN Hyper Voice on the first instance, Swift on the second, Hyper Voice on the third, pushing back each time

uh

I hate P/E subs when you are using wide moves. It reeks of "I don't have anything better to sub for".

Archeops has Taunt and Fly and is faster and there are a lot of things I could think of that are more potentially damaging than P/E on spread moves.

I mean, for example, a Trick Room on A1 followed by some Phantom Forces is much more damaging than Banette using P/E moves. You won't deliver much extra pressure with the P/E subs. It is just there.

Sure, with banette having prankster, I can get around most of the more complicated subs you can use with taunt or D/E, but then I will need to use up one or two actions for that. I am ordering last, I have 6 actions to wreck havoc. So any action you manage to burn is good for you. And a point: if you force me to use a P/E, then you are burning actions from me. In other words, if I use P/E on this situation, this is good for you. Not bad. Unless you think I can't do better than P/E.

The P/E sub on banette I will have to insist on you changing it. If I use a P/E on banette you can fire me from the mentorship program. I am better off using D/E or priority pain split or so many things with a better cost-benefit than a blank and boring P/E. The other P/E sub I will leave at your discretion.

Whoops!

Pain Split is irritating to work around - I can't find a method to beat it reliably. However, since using Pain Split results in you taking at least another hit, it's not completely bad.

Archeops: Rock Slide ~ Heat Wave ~ Rock Slide
IF your attack is disabled when you are to act THEN Earthquake
IF Banette is under the effect of a Damaging/Evasive action THEN Knock Off (Deoxys) AND restart the queue
IF Deoxys is under the effect of a Protective/Evasive action THEN Crunch (Banette) AND restart the queue

Gardevoir [MEGA EVOLVE & Trace Cursed Body]: Dazzling Gleam ~ Icy Wind ~ Dazzling Gleam

In my defense, I had an adorable set of orders that got deleted ._.

There are minor things I would take issue at, but they are minor, and mostly stylistical. I better let it go and see what happens.

Banette [MEGA EVOLVE]: Protect (Deoxys) - Phantom Force (Gardevoir) - Phantom Force (Gardevoir)
IF
Phantom Force is disabled by Cursed Body A2 THEN Yell at df's luck AND Metronome (Spikes (Ground) - Stealth Rock (Rock) - Toxic Spikes (Poison) - Bolt Strike (Electric) (Archeops) - Iron Head (Steel) (Archeops) - Waterfall (Water) (Archeops) - Shadow Force (Ghost) (Gardevoir) - Parting Shot (Dark) (Archeops) - Freeze Shock (Ice) (Archeops) - Fly (Flying) - Light Screen (Psychic)) A3
Deoxys: Trick Room - Knock Off (Archeops) - Skill Swap (Steal Banette's Prankster and Trade own Pressure with Banette's Frisk)

Okay, so there are 6 potential paths here? Tomohawk doesn't benefit from switching in here, however, and whilst I could bring Aegislash in, I'm failing to see the added value from doing so, which leaves my only course of action to be...

Ugh.

Alright, so the biggest issue is going to be the Encore. I think the easiest way to handle that before it gets too annoying is to have Archeops use Quick Guard. Meanwhile, there are 5 (?) incoming Rock Slides.

Potentially that could be devastating, but you're lacking subs for disabled moves and Garde has Cursed Body. Assuming that all 5 of them hit, the damage is...

Garde: 6 + 6 + 6 + 4.5 + 4.5 = 27 Damage
Archeops: ... = 63 Damage

The two options I've really got here are to either blast away and hope that the roulette favours me, or to try to clear away this most irritating Trick Room.

The former is getting a flat 'no' from me, so let's see what we can do about this Trick Room. The simple solution is 'use Trick Room yourself', but then there's a 30% chance we're back to square one. And unfortunately someone won't let me use Quick Guard + Passed Protect. So, this is where we make the most of Flinch substitutions.

Ideally your team is Taunted at the end of the round, and we can use the next round to clobber you.

Archeops: Quick Guard ~ Knock Off (Fidgit) ~ Taunt (Fidgit)
IF you flinch THEN push back

Gardevoir: Trick Room ~ Taunt (Deoxys) ~ Psychic (Fidgit)
IF you flinch THEN push back

No critique has to be a good sign, then.

Yeah, I don't have the mental energy to sustain this. That, and all I've learnt from this match is how making orders that are fun to explain doesn't result in playstyles I'm comfortable with. Neither do the mons I'm using.

Forfeit

I was told to treat this as a normal match instead of a real 202 with regards to rewards, so...

Frosty: 3 CC

FMD: 7 UC
(2.5 + 1) * (2.5 + 2) / 2 = 7.875
