OK, I know what you're thinking. "What the heck does Bellossom do that Tangrowth, Leafeon, Venusaur, Victreebel, or Vileplume already do?" And the answer is simple, not much. To me, there is only one set that Bellossom is capable of doing that isn't completely outclassed by those mentioned.

Plans:
- Remove everything
- Add Sunny Day Support set

[Overview]

Unfortunately for Bellossom, she's the epitome of the average Grass-type; from her average stats, her average ability, her average movepool, and even her average typing, Bellossom has almost nothing over her competition. Don't be fooled though, as this doesn't make Bellossom a bad Pokemon. Her stats are placed perfectly to allow Bellossom to abuse her ability, Chlorophyll, and her movepool has all the right moves to ensure she won't be a disappointment if you use her correctly.

[SET]
name: Sunny Day Support
move 1: Sunny Day
move 2: Sleep Powder
move 3: Hidden Power Fire / Moonlight
move 4: SolarBeam / Leaf Storm
item: Heat Rock / Life Orb
nature: Modest
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

This set is about as good as it gets for Bellossom, and is the most useful role that she can fulfill in UU. The main idea is to come in on a Pokemon that poses little threat to Bellossom, such as Milotic or Rotom, set up Sunny Day, cripple an opponent with Sleep Powder, and switch out to a teammate that can abuse the remaining six turns of sun. Bellossom works great early in the game if Sunny Day hasn't been revealed yet and some of the opponent's team has been scouted. The last two slots give Bellossom some auxiliary support to ensure she isn't completely hapless against the enemy. Hidden Power Fire gets a pseudo-STAB boost under the sun, and pairs well with the Grass-type attack in the last slot for neutral coverage. SolarBeam is the primary choice in the last slot as its synchronicity with Sunny Day is pretty much a given.

Moonlight can be used in place of Hidden Power Fire to give Bellossom much more survivability, and allow her to set up Sunny Day many more times during the battle. As a bonus, Moonlight heals 2/3 of her health under the sun. Leaf Storm can be used in place of SolarBeam to give Bellossom a one-time power shot at the enemy, but with sun up, SolarBeam is far more reliable. Hidden Power Rock can be used in place of Hidden Power Fire to damage any Fire-types looking to take advantage of the sun Bellossom provides, and it handily eliminates Moltres, a common Bellossom switch-in.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

The EVs are designed to give Bellossom as much Special Attack as possible, while also giving her enough Speed to reach a Speed stat of 396, which outspeeds Jolly Swellow under the sun. Alternatively, Bellossom can invest in Special Defense with a Calm nature to make her a more bulky supporter. However, the disparity in power is enormous, and Bellossom becomes more of a liability to your team than an asset.

As a supporter, the best teammates for Bellossom are those that can take advantage of the sun and sleep Bellossom provides. Fire-types such as Arcanine and Blaziken make great partners to Bellossom, as they cover her Ice- and Fire-type weaknesses, while enjoying the huge power boost that the sun grants their STAB Fire-type moves. In turn, Bellossom covers their Water-type weakness, and can switch into Milotic and Slowbro with impunity. While pairing Bellossom exclusively with other Chlorophyll users such as Exeggutor and Shiftry is not advised, Bellossom is able to switch into any weak Ice-type attacks aimed at them, and allows them to use another coverage move in place of Sleep Powder. Bellossom's other weaknesses include Bug-, Flying-, and Poison-type attacks, so using Pokemon who can cover them, such as Regirock and Rhyperior, is recommended.

[Team Options]

Bellossom is best as a Sunny Day starter, so Pokemon who can make the most use of the sun she provides make the best teammates for her. Fire-types are the best as they are able to switch into Ice- and Fire-type attacks aimed at her, and in return she can switch into any Ground-type attacks they may encounter. Other Chlorophyll users such as Shiftry, Exeggutor, Tangrowth, and Sunflora make good teammates as they can switch in for free once Bellossom has put an opposing Pokemon to sleep with Sleep Powder. Bellossom should avoid being put on teams with more than two other Chlorophyll users, as she shares the same weaknesses as them and only offers her ability to switch into Milotic's Ice Beam with impunity. Rhyperior makes a good partner as it's able to switch into Fire- and Flying-type attacks aimed at Bellossom, while she can absorb the Ground- and Water-type attacks aimed at it.

[Other Options]

Bellossom doesn't have many other options, as her movepool is extremely shallow. Bellossom can use a straight SunnyBeamer set of Sunny Day / SolarBeam / Hidden Power Fire / Moonlight that plays as a bulkier sweeper; however, she is easily walled and has no other coverage moves (unlike her Chlorophyll brethren). She has Stun Spore, Teeter Dance, and Sleep Powder, which are useful on double platform and Parafusion sets; however, her lack of offense and Speed is an issue. Bellossom can make use of a Swords Dance set utilizing Leaf Blade, Return, and Drain Punch, but the same dilemma occurs as the SunnyBeamer set. She has access to a SubSeed set, but she is too slow and can only use it while sun is in play, which isn't always possible. Finally, equipping Bellossom with Choice Specs can give her a lot more power, but her coverage moves end at Leaf Storm, Sludge Bomb, and Hidden Power Fire.

[Counters]

RestTalk Spiritomb makes an awesome counter to Bellossom, as it takes little damage from even a full-powered Leaf Storm, absorbs Sleep Powder, doesn't care about paralysis, and threatens Bellossom with Pursuit if she attempts to switch out. Opposing Fire-types are a great danger to Bellossom, as they take advantage of the sun she provides and can proceed to OHKO her easily with any Fire-type attack. Caution should be taken when attacking Bellossom with a Fire-type move however, as she may be switching to a teammate with the ability Flash Fire as well. Altaria and Chansey are almost perfect counters to Bellossom as they are not harmed in the slightest by Leaf Storm and SolarBeam, and can heal themselves of whatever status Bellossom may inflict on them thanks to their ability, Natural Cure; meanwhile, they can threaten the rest of Bellossom's teammates by either setting up or with status attacks, respectively.

yeah honestly i don't see why i'd use this over similar grass pokemon with sleep powder. on a sun team i've never seen the point in sticking on support pokemon that have the same typing as your sweepers (grass not fire) since that does nothing for resistances/offensive synergy; bellossom also doesn't bring too much to the table when compared to other support options. many grass pokemon can sleep powder; the loss of stun spore isn't really meaningful since using stun spore means you have to subject your sweepers to a massive hit (compare to something like exeggutor who can attack off massive satk after sleeping something). all i see this set doing is setting up sunny day (ok everything can do this) and then sleeping something (a little rarer but sleep status is not an insanely rare commodity on a sun team) then being dead weight.

maybe... just MAYBE... this can be used on a fire-based sun team... but even then i can't see it being more effective than similar pokemon. i'll wait for your response and more comments before deciding on whether to edit in a rejection or not though...

Vileplume does this exactly the same and has arguably better typing...

Well, here are some logs featuring Bellosssom and a team I whipped together in about five minutes. Bellossom is never the shining star in any of the battles, but she plays an intricate part in the team, safely setting up Sunny Day for the rest of the team and possibly sleeping or paralyzing the opponent. I'm not going to argue that she sets up Sunny Day better than any other Pokemon, but I am going to argue that she inhabits a specific niche in the metagame, being the only pure Grass-type with Chlorophyll that can take strong special attacks and reliably set up Sunny Day and sleep the oponents' Pokemon. In none of the battles does Bellossom ever become dead-weight, but the logs do show that she shouldn't be attempting to attack, but just support.

And pure Grass is not a lesser type compared to Grass/Poison by any means. It trades a fighting resist and bug neutrality and Toxic Spikes absorbtion, for a ground resist and psychic neutrality.

These logs are from straight 10 battles in a row, minus one insta-quit.

EDIT: I'm not sure why but the log's text got all jumbled up into one giant paragraph, so I will be reposting them. Sorry!

Edit 2: Fixed.

How is Bellossom's set/analysis fine as it is? There are absolutely no comments on reliable teammates or counters, has no indications of any of the current metagame trends, and finally, this set that I made isn't even in the current analysis. Sure my set needs some work, but as it is, it functions better than any of the other sets on site right now. Believe me, I've tried.

I meant to say that some the sets on the analysis are fine and don't have to be removed. I realize that the Team Options and counters Sections need to be revamped, but you don't need to completely scrap the entire analysis to put your relatively less than optimal set onsite. I suggest you test some of the other options such as the Status Platform set more to see if they can be included. It wouldn't hurt to try the Sun Sweeper set as well. Great idea compounding Bellossom's fire weakness on a defensive set -_-. This is why you don't generally see defensive grass types utilizing sunny day in a supporter set. The only real thing this Revamp will lead to is another Revamp.

EDIT: Why do you even need Paralysis support on a Sun team?

I'm not here to argue whether this should be accepted or rejected, but the EV spread needs some work. I messed around with it a bit, and I suggest a spread of 252 HP / 28 SpD / 228 Spe with a Calm nature. This provides around the same special bulk, but a lot more physical bulk when compared to your spread, and allows Bellossom to outspeed Jolly Swellow once Chlorophyll is activated. (I don't play UU much, so there may be a scarfer that sits just above Swellow, sorry if that's the case!)

Thank you firecape.

@calentaros - And, when isn't paralysis useful? The sun isn't going to last forever, and crippling two Pokemon with sleep and paralysis eliminates the number of potential Pokemon that can stop you from setting up Sunny Day again. Using my strategy of using Sleep Powder followed directly by Stun Spore is debatable, but I've had success doing so, which is why I suggested it. Stun Spore and Leaf Storm are actually pretty much just filler anyway.

Bellossom makes a rather lackluster sweeper when compared to Exeggutor, Tangrowth, Shiftry, Victreebel, and whomever else I may be missing. The only offensive attacks Bellossom has are Grass-type and Hidden Power, which all the above have + other useful moves. SubSeed would only be useful on Bellossom if the Sun wasn't on a timer, otherwise Jumpluff and Sceptile do that sort of thing better. And don't even try to mention Specs or Swords Dance. Those are horrible options for Bellossom, especially on a Sunny Day team.

And how is Bellossom's weakness to Fire-types compounded with this set? I'm pretty sure Bellossom will get pwned by any Fire-type anyway if she doesn't put them to sleep, and this set ensures that Bellossom will have the best possible chance of setting up Sunny Day against most special attackers save for those Fire-types.

And finally, who are you to criticize my ability to write up an analysis? Saying that "The only real thing this Revamp will lead to is another Revamp." You have yet to get an analysis past QC, and recently your posts on other peoples threads have become harsh and rather obnoxious. I appreciate feedback, but leave it about the set, not about me. If you have a suggestion suggest it. Simple as that. I'll take harsh criticizism from the QCers if I have to take any.

I'm not criticizing you or your ability to write an analysis Im just saying that somebody is going to complain sooner or later about the lack of sets on Bellossom's analysis and request another revamp. If I sound harsh, I'm sorry I guess its the way I type things maybe? I didn't think that was that harsh of criticism 0.0. Bellossom's defensive typing makes it generally an inferior choice as a supportive sun setter due to the lack of defensive synergy with most sun sweepers.

Edit: Also, you fail to tell me why the Status Platform set isn't worth being in the analysis.

I'd actually recommend trying a LO Bellossom for a couple of reasons. With Sunny Day, Moonlight recovers a fuck-ton of health in the sun and with his bulk, he won't be going right away.

Bellossom @ Life Orb
Timid Nature
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
-Sunny Day / Sleep Powder
-SolarBeam
-Hidden Power Fire
-Moonlight
The only reason why I would even use Bellossom of other "Chlorophyllers" is because of its bulk and awesome recovery in the sun. Being able to shut down a counter or set up your own sun to sweep seems pretty cool to me.

Well if people think another set deserves to be on here, then they can send the set through QC themselves unless the QCers say on this thread that they feel that a certain set should get put on here. Either that, or there has to be a concensus among multiple people (usually 2-3) pushing for a certain set to get put on there.

And, if you use a team like the one I did for the logs, Bellossom actually has fine synergy with the rest of the team. If you plan to use a whole team of just Chlorophyll sweepers, then yes, Bellossom has bad synergy. But if you use Bellossom with Fire-types yourself, then suddenly Bellossom has good synergy with the team. And even though Bellossom is weak to Ice, she isn't OHKOed by any Un-STABed Ice Beam from the tier, something her Chlorophyll sweeper teammates can't say. In fact, my Bellossom isn't even 2HKOed by 0 SpA Milotic's Ice Beam.

The only real problem my team had was with Flying-types, particularily Moltres, Altaria and Swellow. But, that's easily remedied with the appropriate Pokemon.

Edit: @Orly - The only issue I have with that though is that I have to decide between Sunny Day and Sleep Powder, which are Bellossom's greatest assets. I'll give it a try though.

Bump. I tried out the set Orly mentioned, and I wasn't impressed. The huge health regeneration was awesome, but any other Chlorophyller with Synthesis/Moonlight can do the same thing, and with a better coverage move than HP Fire, which again any other Chlorophyller can do. So, it was OK, but imo, it wasn't good enough to get a set, not because it's outclassed, but because it didn't perform that well.

Any other suggestions?

Meh, I don't see why we're in a rush to remove so many sets. While they may be outclassed, they are sets that pokemon X can viably run, so there's no point in not including them. The Overview can make a judgement on whether the pokemon is good or not, but the analysis should give most/all its viable sets. If we removed outclassed sets (and Victreebel and Vileplume hardly count as "outclassing" bellossom), then pokemon like Dustox, Luvdisc, Furret, etc would have no sets at all.

Better to face facts and say that a pokemon doesn't do well in UU than try to stuff it where it doesn't belong and give it only one set to use. Additionally, Smogon is a pokemon resource. Players look to Smogon when their opponent pulls out a pokemon to try to make a guess at what set they're running. It's misleading to say "Oh, he's using Bellossom, therefore he must be going for Sunny Day support."

But that's the problem I'm having here. It's not that Bellossom is outclassed, even though she is. The problem is, none of her sets work (well) in UU. The set Orly mentioned was OK at best. So, because the set was slightly less than OK we should include it? The one set that I have is a set that is not only not outclassed, but it works great in UU.

In short, I agree with you Phantom, but if the Pokemon only has one usable set, than that should be the only one included. I know Furret has 2 usable sets, and he should keep those 2 even though he is outclassed, because they work. Dustox, on the other hand, should only get one set because that would be his best attempt at UU. I highly doubt Dustox has more than 1 usable set.

We really need a Policy Review about this...

Well.. mention SpA EVs maybe? This can maybe let it KO a cocky Milotic or deal massive damage to the weak points of frail sweepers like Swellow.

While such a set may seem outclassed, it has the element of surprise on its side... When people see Bellossom they think helpless setup fodder, not relatively high power tank.

Maybe like this?

[SET]
name: Sunny Day Support
move 1: Sunny Day
move 2: Sleep Powder
move 3: Leaf Storm
move 4: Hidden Power Rock/Fire/Sludge Bomb
item: Heat Rock
nature: Modest
evs: 12 HP / 252 SpA / 244 Spe

Speed is to specifically outspeed Rhyperior pre-sunny day, meaning that Bellossom can actually do something outside of weather. SpA is to do ridiculous amounts to anything; Swellow for example takes 86.6% - 102.7% from HP rock, according to the smogon calc; Moltres takes 93.5% - 110.9%. This is pretty cool IMO.

Arcanine is still a problem though; Magcargo is killed by HP Rock+Leaf Storm (not too common though)

gimmick set at least desereves OO mention, lol

Unrelated note: Oh and I honestly don't think that som pokemon can run viable sets... looking at Dustox, can you really do something with such terrible attacking and defensive stats? It's not even that venomoth outclasses it, but that it just is flat out useless, with its 50 base attacking stats and I think its base 70 SpD and 60 Def... I mean for god's sake even castform takes hits better than it Dx

Yeah, I'll definitely make a mention of the option of using full SpA EVs and/or the use of Life Orb etc.,etc.

On the same unrelated note: As for Dustox, I think that the set on-site should be his best attempt at UU, even if it is terrible by today's standards. This could take some playtesting to exactly see which set of his sucks the least out of each, but that's what I think should be done with god-awful Pokemon.

Yes, a Sunny Beamer set. It's one of the sets that Bellossom can pull off and she's not THAT bad at it. It's probably among the most common, too.

So, Orly's set which was something like this?

[SET]
name: Sunnybeamer
move 1: Sunny Day
move 2: Solarbeam
move 3: Hidden Power Fire
move 4: Sleep Powder / Moonlight
evs: 60 HP / 252 SpA / 198 Spe
item: Heat Rock / Life Orb
nature: Timid

The EVs give me 203 Spe which reaches 406 under the sun enough to outrun everything, max SpA, and the rest in HP (I think I did my math right, lol.)

I see only a couple of problems. The main issue is that the Team Options section goes before the Other Options one. Rest-talk should be changed to RestTalk, and also mention that Spiritomb has the chance of tricking a Choice item onto Bellossom. Other than those, I can't see any major problems. Good update!

Did Team Options always go before Other Options? Hmmm, weird. Anyway, could I get some QC input on this please??????
