[BoB Round 1] Elevator Music vs. Pwnemon

Rules
Pokemon: 3v3
Format: Singles
DQ: 3 Days (STRICT)
Switch: OK
Items: ON
Abilities: ALL
Substitutions: TWO
8 Recovers / 20 Chills

Arena
The ASB Tournament Arena
Field Type: Neutral
Complexity: Simple
Format: All

Restrictions: No Restrictions

Description: Surrounded by thousands of screaming Pokémon fans, the ASB Arena can be best described as a standard Pokémon battling arena. In the centre of the arena lies a dirt-based floor outlined to show two separate sides (with a white Poké Ball centre). Surrounding the dirt is a moat filled with water. The moat is about 4.5m wide & creates a perimeter around the dirt arena. The arena itself is 24m wide, 33m long. All moves, weathers, and abilities are legal for the match, since it is an outdoor arena with a large water source & packed dirt. Pokémon must stay in the arena (or the dimensions of the arena in the case of Flying-type Pokémon, who cannot leave the arena & cannot fly higher than 18m). This prevents Pokémon from injuring the crowd watching the tournament. There are no outside interruptions by fans, Pokémon, or other elements not associated with the current battle.

Well folks here we go. Attempt number four at an ASB tournament and this time we are going back to basics. Bring your best and duke it out for the biggest prize we've yet seen on offer. Not to mention you've stumbled into one of the hottest matches in the first round of this thing. On one side we have the veritable favourite for the tournament who always brings the highest of quality Pokemon in Elevator Music! On the other side is a former team tournament winner and Grass gym leader Pwnemon! Even without his trusty Pyroak Pwnemon is no pushover and looks to cement himself with this win as a real top dog here in ASB. Without any further adue let's get that coin in the air. Heads sees Elevator Music make the move while tails puts the burden on Pwnemon.

Knowing full well that sending out first is both a revealing moment and a definite opportunity Elevator Music leads with what many would consider a catch all in ASB. Togekissu has the offence, the defence and the utility to deal with almost anything that could be sent her way and with a Shiny Stone clasped beneath that massive wingspan she looks even more potent. Pwnemon responds with a risky yet potentially devastating option but in the same breath he may have played the biggest card from his deck. Undeterred by the Fairy facing him Doug the Cyclohm hits the field with that same Expert Belt that every Cyclohm seems to carry. Two ASB powerhouses stand across from one another from the field and those within the trainer boxes as we get ready to kick this off.

As if the scene couldn't become any more tense a roll of the die separates which of the identially paced Pokemon will make the first move. In what could be a telling roll Togekissu is able to shoot off a Dazzling Gleam mere milliseconds before Doug can errect a protective Light Screen but unfortunately for Pwnemon the tie made little difference here as the haste with which she prepared her shot did not prevent Togekissu landing a Super Lucky critical hit that would have bypassed the screen in any case. The hit does some massive damage to Doug and quickly brings his bulk back down to an even level.

Eager to land a return blow Doug rubs his many dark clouds together and Discharges all the energy built up within them. He is forced to rebuff another Gleam of light from the Togekiss but at least this blow is cushoined somewhat from behind that guard. Unfortunately for trainer and Pokemon alike the blue jolts of mostly static electricity come frustratingly close to siezing up Togekiss' muscles before a combination of will and a powerful bond with Elevator Music allow Togekissu to shake off the hit.

Wary of another and perhaps more powerful jolt coming her way Togekissu errects a stronger but more tempoarary barrier of her own. Sure enough the sparks from around Doug morph from blue static electricity to the pure yellow of a Thunderbolt. Togekiss is able to sit back and know she is Protected from such an attack but not without expending some further energy to keep the viel before her from collapsing under the power of the mighty bolt.

As trainer and Pokemon alike sit back to assess the situation it initially appears Pwnemon's gamble has not paid off. Cyclohm is faced with a team chock full of counters for it. Looks like our Grass typed master needs to pray that Light Screen is enough against Emma's purely specially attacking team. Only time will tell if it is.

Feeling that Togekissu might be a tad limited in this match up with the disadvantage of ordering first Elevator Music chooses to change it up a little and goes to Bariyaado the Mr. Mime. In some respects the most frail member of the team Bariyaado makes up for it by bringing a level of trickery that is hard to match. With Doug narry holding a move that can hit Mime super effectively Pwnemon instead chooses to forgoe turn advantage and send in some tasty super effective dual Rare Candy boosts STABs. Newman does have a pesky Enigma Berry to deal with in addition to the nerf bat his typing got hit by thanks to Generation VI.

Never the less Newman kicks us off with a hard hitting Iron Head that whacks Mime right in the sternum and leaves the Fairy clutching at its stomach and able to do nothing but nibble away at the berry while it recovers. The Kitsunoh follows up swiftly by Bulldozing right the way through Bariyaado and further enhancing the speed advantage he holds but the crafty and ever moving Mr. Mime is still quick enough to give Kitsunoh a hypnotic round of applause which coaxes Newman to give an Encore of that move for the rest of this round and part way into the next. In the mean time unfortunately Pwnemon has to stand idly by while Newman once again utilises only a weak seismic attack and Bariyaado is free to use his own attacking prowess against him with a little Foul Play.

With a flinch to aid him Pwemon came out slightly ahead in the round and once enduring a free action from Emma's mimer at the beginning of the coming round Pwnemon gets to see what he can spring with the turn advantage.

In a straightforward round both combatants simply aim to do as much damage as they can to each other. Hax is virtually non-existent as Newman kicks off with a forced Bulldoze for yet more minor abrasions on Bariyaado. In the round's only risky venture Bariyaado fires off another Foul Play at the Kitsunoh but fortunately for Elevator Music he is able to avoid having his most damaging attack disabled by that pesky ability. Newman hits back with a metallic fist as the hit from Meteor Mash has the two pronged effect of Mr. Mime eating the last of his delicious berry to negate some pain while some Newman's right hand stays just that little bit harder after the hit as he comes away with a boost to his attack. With the annoying Light Screen now dissipated Bariyaado fires back with some flame infused Hidden Power and finally the shadow cat's Cursed Body kicks in and ensures that he won't be taking one of those for a while. Finally free to use his best attacks without fear of them causing healing Newman charges with an Iron Head but isn't lucky enough to get the flinch again and wears some more Foul Play for his troubles.

It looks like Emma has come out on the better end of this race, thanks in no small part to Mr. Mime's surprising hardiness and a cunning item choice. Lets see if Pwnemon can turn it around and nab the first KO.

Pulling yet another switch to basically expose all of his team Pwnemon looks to Rodney the Gallade to finish this one off. He starts off by taking advantage of how slow Bariyaado has become and used its own trick by Encoring the Mr. Mime to keep on with some Foul Play activating Rodney's strong sense of justice for some nice attack boosts. This allowed the Gallade to freely Poison Jab away, even with some poisoning to boot and the pesky Mr. Mime finally goes down!

Pwnemon may have scored the first KO here but it was at the cost of exposing his entire team and now Emma gets to make the first move and counter with what he can.

Emma has chosen to send out his Cyclohm in what looks as if it may have been possibly a miss step. That Rocky Helmet might have deterred some attacks but it does nothing at all to stop a barrage of Earthquakes from Rodney that really put those Justified boosts to use. Cyclohm opts with an electrical light display full of Discharges and Thunderbolts but unfortunately for Elevator Music the only hax to rear its head in this round is a particularly powerful critical Earthquake from Rodney.

Pwnemon has taken the lead this round, in all quantifiable ways. Problem is now he needs to try and finish off a still strong enough Cyclohm while ordering first. No easy task indeed.

For future reference, apparently speed ties are decided by whichever move has the lower EN cost.

Pwnemon was exactly right, that advantage did not last long. One simple Magnet Rise from Cyclohm means the only successful hit Rodney made was an Ice Punch and even that came with a bit of a bite back thanks to the Rocky Helmet. He then proceeded to Earthquake away without success while Pwnemon lamented on the sidelines. Elevator Music then simply had his Cyclohm Slack Off all the damage from that one hit away and Volt Switch his way on outta here.
