Matezoide's team:

<Primeape> [Steve] (Male)
Nature: Jolly (+14% accuracy)

Type: Fighting

Fighting STAB; ignore weight restrictions on Circle Throw, Seismic Toss, Sky Drop, Storm Throw, Submission, and Vital Throw.

About: He is the very first pokemon Matezoide obtained and quickly became best friends after Matt selfishlessly risked his life against a pack of wild Houndour.
Steve is extremely strong, determined, honored and relatively docile Primeape, only feeling truly alive during a battle with a worth opponent (But cant control his anger if he feels the situation is....ridiculous), he cares very much about his trainer and team mates. As Matezoide's oldest pokemon and closest friend, Steve is considered to be the leader of his pokemon, and the one they can always trust for help regardless of the situation.

Abilities:
Vital Spirit (Passive):

This Pokemon has a high vitality and alertness making it immune to sleep induced by other Pokemon. Its normal state of sleeplessness makes it take 1 less damage and energy/action from Ghost Curse. If it is put to sleep by a Pokemon with Mold Breaker it will wake up the next action. If a Pokemon with Vital Spirit also has Insomnia, its evasion is raised by one (1) stage permanently.

Anger Point (Passive):

When struck with a critical hit, this Pokemon becomes enraged and its Attack rises to maximum (Stage 6). However, its Attack will drop up to two (2) stages at the end of each round instead of one (1) stage until it reaches stage zero (0). Critical hits from self-targeting moves do not activate Anger Point.

Defiant (HIDDEN ABILITY UNLOCKED Passive):

The Pokemon has a deep sense of honor, and whenever one of its stats are decreased by an opponent's Attack or Ability, its Attack increases by two (2) stages. Attack Boosts gained this way are not subject to deterioration that round.

<Aurumoth> (Will) [Female]
Nature: Sassy (+1 Sp.Defense, -15% Speed, -10% Evasion)

Type: Bug/Psychic
Bug: Bug STAB: more mobility in dense brush or forest conditions. Gains one extra attack on multi-hit moves, with a cap of five (5).
Psychic: Psychic STAB; less susceptible to blinding, more susceptible to sound-based assaults as far as locking on with Psychic attacks, can lift and throw opponents with Psychic regardless of Special Attack Rank. Psychic-type attacks are not godlike and cannot be used as a catchall for Disabling, Binding, and redirecting opposing attacks.

About: Will comes from a big family, being the oldest sibling, Will has grown to be extremely responsable and careful for her brothers and sisters. As the years passed, she realised her brothers/sisters became old enough to take care of themselves, which upset her to an extent.
Eventualy, she met Matezoide and was caught. Although she isnt the oldest one anymore, Will is happy to be part of a new family, despite being rather tomboyish and unstable, Will has the personality and inteligence of a competent leader. The Heart of Kandrakar's power has grown considerably, affecting her physical appearance, though her mind hasnt changed one bit.

Abilities:

Weak Armor: (Toggle) Default effect: None.
Alternative effect: The Pokemon can loosen its worn defensive armor so that it will break off when an opponent uses a contact attack, reducing the Pokemon's Defense and increasing their Speed by one (1) stage for each hit.

No Guard: (Passive) This Pokemon has an immense confidence from perfecting each of its attacks, giving them all perfect accuracy. As a result, it feels it can weather every strike, and will not dodge an attack even if ordered to. Only when an OHKO move is issued by the opponent does sense return, and the Pokemon acts normally. Additionally, even with their extra skill, the power and exhaustion involved in using OHKO moves prevents them from being benefited by No Guard; they will have their normal accuracy.

Illusion: (HIDDEN ABILITY UNLOCKED, Passive) Whenever you send this Pokemon out, it can feign the appearance of another member on your squad. If this Pokemon is damaged by a direct attack, the Illusion will cease at the end of the round. Direct damage is any attack that does damage to the Pokemon's HP. Attacks that are evaded, blocked via Protect, or damage a Substitute are not considered direct damage. It will retain the typing and moveset of the Pokemon with Illusion. [Usage Note: PM the ref if you are sending out a Pokemon with Illusion with the info on said Pokemon and one of your squad members in a Switch=KO battle. You must use that squad member later in the battle though.]

<Ditto> (Ottis) [No Gender]

Nature: Quirky
Type: Normal

Normal: Normal STAB; +1 BAP on attacks that match dominant arena type after 3 actions. Unable to have Thrash or Outrage disrupted by oncoming damage.

About: A Shiny Ditto, Ottis is a joker at heart. Although he means no harm, Ottis is unable to not change the opponent's form upon transforming, mostly in an (mostly sucessful) attempt at making other people laugh and annoy the enemy.
He bonded extremely well with Bosco, given their similar form, shininess and....''unique'' natures.

Abilities:
Limber (Passive
): This Pokemon’s body is well trained and immune to paralysis.
Imposter (HIDDEN ABILITY UNLOCKED, Passive): This Pokemon transforms into an opponent specified by the trainer immediately upon entry into battle.

I am sorry, Geodude. I know you would ref this if we kept nagging you, but the thing is, it is hard to trust you to actually ref this and stay on time. It took you 2 days to make the thread (From the point you got our mons), and theres little reason to believe that would get any better.

As a result, Dummy007 has agreed to ref this match.

Aaanyway....

Sending out Steve with a Rare Candy.

You sent my best friend to the hospital....you killed and tortured several innocents for your own pleasure....many of my friends were almost killed because of you....

Closing his fist tighter in anger, the Primeape's eyes start to go red in fury.

YOU CORRUPTED CHUCK'S SOUL! I DO NOT CARE HOW MUCH IT TAKES FROM ME....I WILL STOP YOU ALL!

(Geodude's rules posting is incorrect; Items are allowed.)

*Sweatdrop*
*Sweatdrop*
*Sweatdrop*

"Fine. I'll go forward."

"Well, well, well... You after one of my servants? I am not giving him up; he still has use to me. So go home, cry, and despair... the end will come! BEGONE!"
(Focus Sash)
Itsumo the Spritomb, Demon Lord of Destruction
Action 1: Imprison (Giga Impact, Taunt, Retaliate)
Action 2: Will-O-Wisp
Action 3: Psychic

IF Taunt is Ordered action 1 Protect and push actions back.
IF Taunt is ordered actions 1 AND 2, replace action 2 with Shadow Ball.

Suddenly calm again, the Primeape crosses his arms.

Hehehe....i can see the look on your faces...i really got you, eh?
Instantly assuming a serious posture again, the fighting type continues

Do not think my hatred for your kind is any smaller than that of my fellow teammates.

And with that, ''Steve'' suddenly begins to change shape!

You had one of my best friends viciously attack me....but it didnt stop there, did it? Oh no, his mission was just to prevent Mac from getting into the stage....i will never forget how you forced me to use my illusion powers so Chuck could stab Mac in the back! YOU. ARE. GOING. TO. PAY!

Megahorn -> Magic Coat -> Trick

According to the NDA, Infiltrator does not ignore Magic Coat, and No Guard should have no effect on Magic Coat working or not. I wish to re-order if thats the case.

Sorry to hop into this match, but because it was potentially an issue:

<TIBot> Texas said 1 hour ago in #capasb: items purchased during the tourney are good to go

In other words, items purchased during the tourney can be used just as easily as items purchased before the tourney. That is all.

Round 1 Begin!

The arena is loud, hot, and sweaty. The stands are filled to the brim with spectators of all types: moms with small children begging for cold beverages (and so are the children), avid PokeNerds yelling orders TPP-style at the battlers below, uninterested teenagers with their faces buried in cell phones ("lol hes using ditto so nub" "dude his hair is purple as ****"). Down on the field, however, things are much more tense, as the first round of this epic faceoff between users Matezoide and Eternal Drifter is about to commence! #accidentalrhymes

The fighting opens as Matezoide's Steve, almost purple with rage (Purple? Is that normal?) wipes his sweaty brow, clenches his fists, and dashes towards Itsumo. The audience lets out a collective groan/sigh/heat-induced-vomit(?); dozens of texts go out ("close kombat duznt effect ghosts wut a nub" "sun fried his brains like bacon lel" "yolol DO I LOOK STUPID ENOUGH TO USE CC ON A GHOST PREDICT MOAR IMO") before Steve successfully lunges for Itsumo and...stabs him? Can you even stab a ghost? It certainly looked like it did something, but Primeape doesn't learn any moves like that...(#foreshadowing) Itsumo, obviously a bit confused as to what just happened, decides to be cautious and simply Imprisons a few moves, leaving Matezoide unable to call for them for a little bit.

Steve, defying expectations yet again, shrouds himself in some kind of magical coating...which he also can't learn. (Matezoide learn to movesets imo) Anyway, despite the apparent illegality, the Magic Coat works, and Itsumo, obviously not expecting a mentally-based move from a Primeape [aside: Not all Primeape are actually unintelligent. In fact, some have even been known to construct and use crude tools, such as nutcrackers made from sharp rocks, leaf-based toilet paper, and desktops running Windows 98.], fires a Will-O-Wisp (pun intended ex post facto) directly at Steve, only to have it bounced straight back at him. Given how intense those flames looked, Itsumo would definitely have some burning in his heart right now- IF HE HAD ONE!

Darting towards Itsumo a second time, albeit much more sneakily, Steve distracts- err, tries to distract Itsumo with a series of feints, but, being a Ghost-type, Itsumo isn't at all fazed by the jabs. Shrugging, Steve points randomly into the crowd and calls out, "Look! An innocent human child!" Itsumo turns hastily in expectation of a meal, which distracts him long enough for Steve to rip off his Focus Sash and replace it with Steve's own Rare Candy. Itsumo, now furious, unleashes his mental powers in a mighty Psychic! Steve is lifted off his feet and thrown against a far wall, sending up a huge dust cloud. More texts are sent ("spiritbomb so good" "lel primeape get rekt" "cant see with this dust in my face smh" "shorts too comfy and easy to wear pls nerf imo"). When the dust clears, however, what emerges from the cloud isn't a Primeape at all! Who's That Pokemon? It's...AURUMOTH! [sfx: Aurumoth, Aurumoth] Matezoide chortles heartily; Eternal Drifter stands silent in disbelief. The crowd lets out a collective gasp, except for that one guy who screams, "BOO, YOU STINK!"

Round 1 is done, and Matezoide has a clear lead thanks to the brokenness of Aurumoth power of Illusion. However, he has to order first next round; will that change the outcome of this match, or will he successfully push the advantage? Find out...tomorrow! Probably!

Round 2 Begin!

Matezoide and Eternal Drifter grit their teeth, bracing themselves for another mentally exhausting round. Will grits her...appendages(?)...in anticipation of Round 2, expecting Itsumo to take a more offensive approach now that the charade is up. Itsumo grits his souls for the same reason, expecting another wave of high-powered attacks from bugmaniacspawn Will. The crowd grits their teeth to try and keep the dust from last round out of their mouths. I grit my teeth because I'm so conformist. And we're off!

Will opens the round with a blinding flash of light. But this isn't your average everyday light. This is-

ADVANCED LIGHT.

It has actually advanced to the point of being a Fairy-typed move, which means it hits Itsumo for better than neutral damage! That's not something you see every generation! In spite of his current inability to see, though, Itsumo still has the mental faculty to quickly draft, sign, and mail to New York City a request that all countries cease trade with Will. After a brief NATO hearing accelerated by Itsumo's threat of stealing the souls of NATO's entire leadership, the embargo is approved, and Will is forced by law to throw her shiny new Focus Sash off to one side for a while. Politics.

In response to these new and largely uncalled-for sanctions, Will busts out the same knife she used while masquerading as Steve and slashes at Itsumo's keystone. As might be expected, the stone doesn't shatter; as might not be expected, a cut in the stone is actually noticeable. Itsumo turns to face Will, glowering with rage. The crowd gasps as Itsumo unleashes a crazy loud snarl; in fact, the volume of his snarl is so great that the spectators nearest to the battle are temporarily deafened (and their SpA falls, but that's not really relevant unless you're playing ED's RP) and the echo off the arena walls can be heard from space Canada my house a mile away! Oh, and Will suffers an SpA drop, too.

Will, refusing to stand for an act of such utter defiance, releases a second Dazzling Gleam; this time, though, she makes the light exceptionally bright, and it scores a critical hit on Itsumo! So much for that SpA drop. Itsumo, head...err, mass of souls spinning, counters the light with a ball made of 99-and-44-100ths percent pure darkness [aside: Technically, the darkness purity of a Shadow Ball is not exactly known. Some analyses have put it as high as 99-and-78-100ths percent, while others have recorded percents as low as 99-and-14-100ths. One study even makes the claim that Shadow Balls are, in fact, 0-and-0-100ths percent pure darkness and that what we are actually measuring is more like ghostness, but this study was conducted by akela, so it seems far more believable that he was tired from approving Birkal flashmatch claims and accidentally used Pike RNG rolls as his data points.] and even scores a lucky SpD drop in the process! If someone could explain to me how that works, that would be great...

As Itsumo takes the last of his burn damage for the round, it appears that Eternal Drifter is at least temporarily in dire straits. Itsumo is hanging on by the slimmest of margins, and Will's Embargo and stat drops will only last for the next round, which will very likely take a single action (assuming no switching). On the plus side, Eternal Drifter has the option to switch if he so chooses, which may very well be to his advantage here. To finish this reffing off, I'll include some text quotes from the crowd this round:
"gritting my teeth like a boss"
"oww my ryes vany drr thw lryn9srf"
"lol Spiriritomb get rekt"
"Hah! You better have BURN HEAL!"
"smh NATO you cant just escargo stuff like that"
"Sooo glad I was born deaf. #disability #equals #thisability"
"he should just end the reffing now imo why is he dragging it ou

Round 3 Begin!

The battle is obviously heating up; aside from the fact that both active Pokemon are currently in bad shape and attacking furiously, the ringside thermometer has actually reported a 3 degree Fahrenheit (those 'MURRICAN units) increase since the battle began. What could have caused such a change? Is it the sheer mass of spectators in the stands? The body heat of the battling Pokemon? The cup of coffee someone left right next to the thermometer? Questions, questions.

Speaking of questions, I've got one: Why did Itsumo feel the need to start telling his life story again this round? We've all heard it recently enough that I think we can remember most of the details. The audience collectively braces themselves for the tale as Itsumo begins:
"Way back when I was just a little-bitty boy, living in a box under the stairs in the corner of the basement of the house half a block down the street from Jerry's Bait Shop- you know the place-"
Fortunately, Will spares us the rest of the tale by repeating what Itsumo says back to him just after he says it, which has been scientifically proven to shut people up. Apparently this also works on Pokemon, much to everyone's delight.

Then, in a totally expected repeat of last round (err, the last round from a different timeline), the crowd goes blind again and Itsumo calls upon the powers of <ambiguous evil substance> to deal damage. Also like the last round from a different timeline, the <ambiguous evil substance> mysteriously lowers Will's resistance to special attacks, which, upon further inspection, doesn't actually make a lot of sense. [aside: In addition to its composition, studies have also been conducted on why Shadow Ball causes an SpD drop. One prominent hypothesis suggests that the <ambiguous evil substance> in the ball actually contains a compound that elicits fear from the opposition, and this makes them more vulnerable to mentally-based assaults. However, some question the validity of this theory on the grounds that the SpD drop does not always occur; proponents of the theory often explain this away by pulling out a gun and saying, "If we were at a shooting range right now, would you still be worried about your life?" Amazingly, this approach has successfully persuaded 100% of living nonbelievers and an unspecified percent of formerly-living nonbelievers.]

In spite of her currently more afraid (arguably) state, Will still maintains the mental focus to push electrons away from Itsumo, thereby increasing his electric potential; after moving a sufficient quantity of electrons, Will loosens his grip on them, and they flock back towards Itsumo's high potential with incredible speed, thereby transferring a large quantity of electricital energy to his ghostly being and emitting a deafening noise. Or, for those of you who are Pokemon Battle Revolution fans, "THUNDER DETONATES WITH A BOOM!" (I know, purists, this is the wrong time, since it wasn't actually a KO, but I still feel like the announcer would say it at a time like this if he were reffing matches live.) Itsumo, in response, calls forth a swarm of demon houseflies, which surround Will and begin buzzing at her mercilessly. And, on top of the SpD drop from last action, this move also scores a critical hit, which makes about as much physical sense as the SpD drop, honestly...

And then a ton of residual damage happens.

Honestly, I think this is the most status/pseudo-status conditions I've ever seen inflicted upon two Pokemon at the end of a round. In spite of the current stats, Eternal Drifter seems to have the advantage here, since Will is nearly dead and cannot switch AND Eternal Drifter gets to order second this round, meaning he should also get to order second against Matezoide's next 'mon as well. But don't count Matezoide out; he still has a Primeape and a Ditto, while ED has a Fighting-weak with a bunch of moves and a Fighting-weak Mega with even more moves. This match could easily go either way, but whose way will it end up going? Find out after another round of crowd texts!

Round 4 Begin!

I'll keep things simple with this reffing, just like this round was. Eternal Drifter sees an opportunity to rack up a little free damage on Will, and he immediately jumps at the chance, ordering Itsumo to Protect himself "from a Dazzling Gleam /winkwinknudgenudge." Itsumo catches on and throws up a Protect immediately; Will, doing what her trainer ordered, proceeds to Chill. Itsumo then lets out a low cackle as Will suffers immensely from her burn, her poison, and her swarm of demon houseflies, while he only suffers from a burn. Eternal Drifter air-fives the demon lord, while Matezoide and Will simply look on in confusion, trying to determine exactly how much that accomplished (and also how Itsumo air-fived with no hands).

Itsumo, knowing that he will very soon faint, decides to go out with a bang. Gathering all of the <ambiguous evil substance> he can muster, he makes a mad, nay, FRANTIC dash for Will and smashes into her shadow, causing the moth to recoil in shock. Surprisingly, the attack doesn't actually do a lot of damage, but it does manage quite a bit compared to how little HP Will has left. Will, in response, produces yet another flash of blinding light [aside: Why didn't I ever use "Blinded by the Light" as a round title? It certainly would have been better than "Drop It Like It's Hot." Maybe my subconscious just didn't feel like subjecting you guys to Bruce Springsteen's incomprehensible but very well-rhymed lyrics. Seriously, "curly-whirly?" Is that even a thing?], temporarily blinding the spectators again. This time, however, when we all regain our vision, we can see that something about the arena has changed. Anxious fans scour the arena floor, trying to figure out what's so unsettling about it. Eyes dart back and forth between Will, who flutters as confidently as before, and Itsumo, who has passed out on the arena floor. Everything still looks the same as it did before- and then, someone spots the change! The cup of coffee next to the thermometer has been removed! Mass panic ensues; how certain can we be of the arena temperature now? What if it's really too hot to survive and we don't notice? Half the crowd is seriously wounded in the resulting stampede out of the stadium, leaving Matezoide, Eternal Drifter, Will, a fainted Itsumo, and myself as the only living beings still in the arena. But at least everyone made it out alive and it wasn't too hot to kill us without us noticing.

Matezoide has taken a temporary 3-2 lead here, and he has the advantage of ordering second next round. Who will Eternal Drifter bring in to avenge his fallen teammate? Find out after the following substitute for crowd texts, since we no longer have a crowd...
[Matezoide pointing out my apparent lack of faith in him or something]

Round 5 Begin!

Eternal Drifter deploys Achisuto the Smeargle as his second Pokemon, hoping to capitalize on Will's current highly weakened state in some way. Will, knowing that her time in this battle is coming to a close, seems to be concentrating her strength, hoping to squeeze in a Parting Shot- err, parting shot. Eternal Drifter and Matezoide stare grimly at the battle scene and then at the empty stands, which seem to mock how long this battle has taken (which is not even a month yet don't hate me). I...really wish the food vendors were still around.

Now we (and by "we," I mean Matezoide, Will, and myself) see what Eternal Drifter sent Achisuto out for: to TRANSFORM! [aside: Two songs in one round. I must really care about you guys or something. Also, see this comic strip.] Suddenly, a second Will is floating in the arena, meaning I can now only tell the two apart by how tired they look. Oh, but I don't have to any longer! It seems that Will is pulling out all the stops and launching-

And that's what the arena looks like now that Will has just nuked it with an overheat that would elicit some excellent Fawful quotes. Achisuto looks very badly bruised from the impact of that blast, but it's Will who has fainted! I guess she did have just enough energy to go out with a bang after all.

The score is now an even 2-2, but Achisuto's health is at below half already. Will Matezoide be able to capitalize on his current lead, or will Eternal Drifter rebound this coming round?

Hey, sorry for the delay folks! Our previous ref had to go on a top-secret mission of some sort, so I was just flown in to ref! *looks at the crowd, sees they're all asleep*
Ahem... HEY, WAKE THE HELL UP PEOPLE! WE'VE GOT A TOURNAMENT MATCH GOING ON HERE!
Hey, they're looking a little angry... OH well, on with the show I suppose.

Steve the Primeape is raring to go, itching to revenge his fallen comrade and destroy the opponent that dares to don its visage. As soon as he receives the order from his master, he races up to his opponent and thrusts a Stone Edge right at him, dealing a hefty amount of damage! In response, Achisuto keeps to its crafty ways and sets up a fuzzy little Substitute in his place! But what's this? While the substitute is not wavering in the slightest, Achisuto is gasping for breath on the other side, and he looks like he's about to be knocked out!

Unable to get past the little doll, Steve cloaks his fist in flames and throws a mighty Fire Punch at the sub, and despite a good amount of wear and tear, it still remains! Finally switching to the offensive, Achisuto enters a brief meditative pause before opening his eyes and ramming straight into Steve with an incredibly powerful Zen Headbutt! Steve is thrown back by the impact, sending up a giant dust cloud behind him, and it takes him a few seconds to get up!

Even more enraged then before, Steve cries out and stomps his feet into the ground, shaking the entire arena and sending a Rock Slide to fall on top of Achisuto's head! A few seconds, the dust settles, and the real Achisuto emerges from its hiding place, with no sign of the Substitute ever existing save for the Smeargle's ragged appearance! However, Achisuto is not ready to keel over and die just yet, and he slams into Steve with another Zen Headbutt!

The Primeape seems to have taken a massive amount of damage this round, but the disguised Smeargle didn't exactly get off without a scratch either- it looks like if it takes one more hit, its a goner for sure! It may look like ED did a good job of shortening the gap between himself and Matezoide, but in reality, if he hopes to win this, he needs to pull off an absolutely amazing play next round! Stay tuned for next round folks, you won't wanna miss it!
