Breloom

Excuse any schoolboy errors, this is my first analysis.

[OVERVIEW]

Breloom has a lot a lot of positive aspects, including its movepool, ability, and typing. For one, it has Spore, the only 100% accurate sleep move in the game, which can cripple anything that isn't a Grass-type. This allows Breloom to put pressure on at least one of its checks or counters, making playing around this Pokemon a pain. Also, many of Brelooms other moves benefit greatly from Technician including Rock Tomb, Bullet Seed, and Mach Punch. It can even put slower threats to sleep and capitalize on the free turns with Swords Dance, sweeping weakened teams with Mach Punch. Along with this, Breloom has just the offensive typing it needs to check common offensive threats Colossoil and Kyurem-B.

However, Breloom's horrible defensive typing and stats mean it really struggles against anything faster than it that resists Mach Punch. such as Talonflame, Cawmodore, and Latios among many, many others. It's typing particularly suffers against Grass-types that can absorb every move coming at them including Necturna and Mega Venusaur. This, on top of its very subpar Speed tier, means that a lot of common Pokemon including Charizard X and Y, Tornadus-T and Latios can outspeed and KO it easily, making Breloom overly reliant on Mach Punch.

[SET]
name: Technician Attacker
move 1: Spore
move 2: Mach Punch
move 3: Bullet Seed
move 4: Rock Tomb / Swords Dance
item: Life Orb / Focus Sash
ability: Technician
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
========

Spore is a great utility move, as it is guaranteed to cripple one Pokemon (besides the uncommon Grass-types). This allows Breloom to get rid of one of its checks or counters for a couple of turns, supporting both the team and itself in a lot of ways, such as providing opportunities for Breloom and its teammates to set up. Mach Punch reaches 90 Base Power after STAB and Technician, meaning Breloom can clean or revenge kill very well thanks to its great Attack. Bullet Seed is great for breaking through Substitutes and complements Mach Punch very well, scoring hits against Gliscor and Azumarill. Rock Tomb can easily take care of offensive Pokemon that can normally switch in to Breloom, including Charizard, Talonflame, and Tornadus-T. Rock Tomb also lowers the foe's Speed and is boosted by Technician, so Breloom can outpace some threats and put them to sleep with Spore. With Stealth Rock support, Rock Tomb can beat some defensive checks such as Pyroak. Swords Dance can be used instead of Rock Tomb to boost Breloom's Attack by two stages, allowing Breloom to sweep much easier.

Set Details
========

Life Orb boosts damage output, allowing Breloom to dent Pokemon that it might normally struggle with, including Crucibelle. Life Orb is also necessary to get the OHKO on Stratagem. However, Focus Sash makes Breloom a blanket check against setup sweepers, allowing it to survive at least one hit and put a Pokemon to sleep with Spore. 252 Attack and Speed EVs make Breloom as powerful and fast as possible. as much as possible, letting it KO Pokemon like Mega Gyarados and outspeed Pokemon like defensive Heatran. A Jolly nature is necessary to further outpace maximum Speed Scizor, Adamant Bisharp, and neutral-natured Altaria.

Usage Tips
========

Breloom gets worn down very quickly, and with its bad defenses, it needs to preserve all the health it can get. Because of this, try to bring Breloom in on free switches or through a slow U-Turn or Volt Switch. While Breloom has access to Rock Tomb, Flying-types are deadly and Breloom is best kept well away from them unless you can predict the switch. Try to keep from setting up Swords Dance until late-game when Breloom can clean up with Mach Punch. Breloom can also function well as a revenge killer for a lot of Pokemon, including Stratagem and Cawmodore. Sometimes it's worth using Spore more tactically to incapacitate a threat that otherwise wouldn't switch in on Breloom.

Breloom appreciates Pokemon that can deal with its checks and counters. For example, Mega Manetric and Stratagem can take care of Flying-types, Weavile and Colossoil can beat a lot of Psychic-types, and Talonflame and Crucibelle handle Fire types; all of these types are difficult for Breloom to handle. Breloom also appreciates Stealth Rock support from the likes of Crucibelle and Heatran to help pressure Flying-types, which Breloom does not like. Since Breloom is good at eliminating Dark-, Water-, and Ground-types, it can pave the way for a Pokemon such as Victini. Breloom appreciates free switches in, so a Volt Switch or U-turn from a Pokemon like Mega-Manectric or Crucibelle (Mega Manetric Volt Switches, while Crucibelle U-turns) works very well. Setup sweepers like Naviathan, Azumarill, and Mega Charizard X can benefit from Spore and set up on Fire types; Pokemon like Naviathan can do this especially well as they have a good movepool to hit a lot of Pokemon that beat Breloom. Reliable entry hazard removal is a must if Breloom is using Focus Sash, as it fails to fulfill its role if Focus Sash gets broken. Pokemon that can do this well include Steel-types such as Skarmory, Kitsunoh, and Scizor. However, Flying-types such as Tomohawk, Zapdos, and Togekiss can also work well.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Poison Heal is a good way to beat defensive teams but falters against offensive teams. Substitute allows Breloom to set up on the forced switch but the Life Orb whittles it down very quickly and works well in tandem with Focus Punch, but the combination of Substitute damage and Life Orb recoil whittles it down very quickly. Breloom can also use an Adamant nature if outspeeding Mamoswine and Mega Altaria isn't important for your team and you appreciate the extra damage on walls such as Clefable.

Checks and Counters
===================
**Grass-types**: Pokemon with a Spore immunity and Bullet Seed resistance such as Mega Venusaur and Necturna can deal big damage to Breloom with their STAB or coverage moves and take only a little bit of damage from Breloom.

**Flying-types**: Almost all Flying-types such as Tornadus-T, Talonflame and Mega Charizard Y can deal with Breloom offensively or defensively, and Breloom's 4X weakness to Flying doesn't help. However, Breloom can OHKO all of these Pokemon with Rock Tomb. Defensive checks including Tomohawk and Skarmory are more tricky to take down, although Spore can cripple these Pokemon to allow a partner to come in on the free switch.

**Priority Users**: Faster priority moves can 2HKO Breloom if not resisted, such as Weavile's Ice Shard, and some can OHKO it, such as Talonflame's Brave Bird.

**Poison-types**: Common Poison-types including Gengar and Plasmanta resist Breloom's STAB attacks and can hit back with a super effective Sludge Wave pretty easily.

**Fire-types**: Fast Fire-types such as Talonflame and Volkraken take little damage from Breloom's STAB moves and hit back super effectively. However, they must watch out for Rock Tomb or Spore on the switch.

**Psychic-types**: Most Psychic-types resist Mach Punch, and Pokemon like Latios and Latias also resist Bullet Seed. However, they can be put to sleep with Spore and hit for neutral damage with Rock Tomb

I know this is still WIP, but from my experience with Breloom, I think Rock Tomb deserves to be in front of SD. SD loom is alright, but it's not terribly difficult to wall or switch into, especially if Spore has already been used up. Mollux walls it after something else has been spored, and Pyroak hard walls it regardless of whether Spore has been used. Rock Tomb fixes all this:

252 Atk Life Orb Technician Breloom Rock Tomb vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Pyroak: 179-213 (40.4 - 48%) -- 99.6% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Life Orb Technician Breloom Rock Tomb vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Mollux: 299-354 (75.8 - 89.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Life Orb Technician Breloom Rock Tomb vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mollux: 299-354 (90.3 - 106.9%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO

Pyroak can't switch in if SR is up, and Mollux can't switch in at all. SDef Mollux can't even check Breloom if SR is up. And of course, it's still good for popping things like talon, zard, torn-t, among other things that could otherwise switch into Grass/Fighting coverage.

That's all I have for now, tag me once the Poison Heal set is up and I'll do a full check. This is looking good so far.

  • Drain punch adds more longevity with a decently powerful Fighting STAB but longevity is often done by Poison Heal
  • Mach Punch allows Breloom to Revenge Kill in a pinch, but it doesn't give very good damage compared to Life Orb
  • Seed Bomb is a great Secondary STAB with a lot of Base Power which can still beat Water-types and Ground-types
  • Facade hits 140 Base Power after the Toxic and it hits Flying-types and other Pokemon who resist Breloom's STAB combination including Mega Altaria and Celebi
  • Spore allows Breloom to stop more offensive Pokemon in their tracks or stop troubling defensive Pokemon.

- Bad defensive typing in tandem with bad defenses means it gets beaten by common threats including Cawdomore, Talonflame, and Tomohawk. I'd list the stuff that hard walls it (nect, venu, etc) first since they can absorb spore, then tie in the other mons with the next point (offensive checks)
- Low Speed tier means Pokemon like Mega Charizard X/Y can outspeed and KO it. This makes it dependent on Priority to beat a lot of Pokemon (leaves it susceptible to faster threats that resist Mach Punch)

**Flying Types**: Almost all flying types (provide examples as cbrevan mentioned in his check, mention troubles switching into Spore or Rock Tomb where applicable) can deal with Breloom offensively or defensively and Breloom's 4X weakness to flying doesn't help

**Grass Types** Resisting Spore and Bullet Seed and Pokemon like Mega Venusaur and Necturna can deal big damage back to Breloom and take minimal damage. make this the first section since they're immune to Spore and therefore the most reliable answers

**Priority** Faster priority (examples) can 2KO if not resisted and some can OHKO.

**Poison Types** Common poison types including Gengar and Plasmanta can resist Breloom's STAB attacks and hit back with a super effective Sludge Wave pretty easily.

**Fire Types** Fast fire types like Talonflame and Volkraken can take little damage from Breloom's STABs and hit with a super effective STAB attack. However, Rock Tomb or Spore can be used on the switch to hit for a lot of damage

**Psychic Types** Psychic types can resist Mach Punch and Pokemon like Latios and Latias can resist Bullet Seed and hit back with a super effective Psychic-type move. However, they can be sent to sleep with Spore and hit for neutral damage with Rock Tomb.
there were a just few things that were missed from cbrevan's check, so go ahead and tag me once it's updated and I'll give QC

Please actually list what Jolly outspeeds but that Adamant does not. Move Focus Sash out of OO and slash it with Life Orb, and add mentions of hazard removal to team options.

In checks and counters, you make it seem like Spore lets Breloom beat Tomohawk, which is just not true. Breloom can spore, but a teammate has to take care of it. Not to mention that if a Tomo gets in for free, then a priority sub can stop a spore. Basically I'm saying that Tomohawk is one of the better flying type checks to Breloom.

I don't have time for a full check, so I'll say more later after these changes have been made.

All done. I have removed every Mention of Adamant Breloom. Would it be worthwhile adding it in OO?

- rename the set since focus sash is now slashed
- provide examples of hazard removers that have good synergy with breloom. steel-types like mega zor and kitsunoh would be good picks for this; things like colo/tomo exacerbate breloom's vulnerability to fairy/ice/flying attacks, whereas a shared fire weakness is a bit less problematic (also, steels appreciate brelooms luring potential with rock tomb)

implement this and it's QC 2/3, good work

Adamant Breloom definitely needs to be mentioned. I'm torn if it's set worthy (As a slash or whatever) or just OO. Probably OO I guess, but I'd defer to other QC members if they have differing opinions.

Oook finally finished all! Ready for Final QC check!

what else have I missed

[OVERVIEW]

Breloom has a lot of positive aspects, including running for it in its movepool, ability, and typing. movepool. (Comment: "running" and "in" are weird here ) For one, it has Spore, the only 100% accurate sleep move in the game game, (Comment: original kind of suggests there's another 100% accurate sleep move ) which can cripple anything that wasn't a grass type. isn't a Grass-type. This allows it Breloom to put pressure on at least one of its checks or counters, making playing around this thing Pokemon a pain. Also, many of Breloom's other moves greatly benefit from Technician, including Rock Tomb, Bullet Seed, and priority Mach Punch. However, this is not all Breloom can pull off, it has a great movepool which benefits greatly from its ability, Technician with moves including Rock Tomb, Bullet Seed and amazing Priority in Mach Punch. It can even sleep slower threats and capitalazie on the free turns with Swords Dance, sweeping weakened teams with said Mach Punch. Along with this, Breloom has a great just the offensive typing that which lets it check common offensive threats including the omnipotent Colossoil and Kyurem-B. (Comment: the second paragraph is mostly about how its typing is bad defensively and offensively, so "great" doesn't work ) Kyurem-B, it can even send slower threats to sleep and then capitalize on this with Swords Dance , which then it can sweep weekend teams with its powerful STAB Technician Mach Punch (Comment: this is more related to moves and less to its typing )

But Breloom is far from perfect. It's Its horrible defensive typing and stats means mean it really suffers from struggles against (Comment: usually you suffer from a condition ) anything faster that resists Mach Punch. This can be seen with Pokemon like Talonflame, Cawmodore, or Latios among many, many others. Its typing suffers also, especially against Grass-types who can absorb every move coming at them including Necturna, Tomohawk, and Mega Venusaur. (Comment: specificity better for set analysis ) This, stacked on top of its very subpar speed tier tier, means that a lot of common Pokemon including Charizard, Tornadus-T and Latios can outspeed and KO it easily, making Breloom over-reliant on Mach Punch.

Spore is a great utility move move, as it is guaranteed to get cripple one Pokemon (besides the uncommon Grass-types). who isn't the uncommon Grass Type to sleep. This can allow allows Breloom to get rid of one of its checks or counters for a couple of turns, this means that it supports supporting both the team and itself in a lot of ways, for example by providing opportunities to set up. ways, including setting up, which Breloom can also do. Mach Punch reaches 90 Base Power after STAB and Technician, meaning this Breloom can clean or revenge kill very well thanks to Brelooms its great attack. Bullet seed Seed is great for Breaking breaking through substitutes and complements Mach Punch very well, scoring hits against Gliscor and Azumarill. a great secondary STAB which can hit harder than any other move Breloom has after 3 hits and complements Brelooms coverage very well, scoring hard hits against Gliscor and Azumarill. Rock Tomb can easily take care of offensive Pokemon who that can normally switch in easily to Breloom. Breloom, including Charizard, Talonflame, and Tornadus-T. It also lowers the opponent's speed Speed and is boosted by Technician, meaning that Breloom can outpace some threats and put them to sleep with thanks to Spore. With Stealth Rock support Rock Tomb can also beat some defensive checks such as Pyroak. It can also beat some of its defensive checks including Pyroak but requires Stealth Rock support to do this. If these aren't needed, Swords Dance can be used instead to boost boosts Breloom's attack by 2, allowing Breloom to clean or sweep much easier.

Life Orb boosts the Damage damage output, allowing Breloom to dent get extra damage off against Pokemon that it might normally struggle with, including Crucibelle. Life Orb is also necessary to OHKO Stratagem. Crucibelle and guarantees the OHKO on Stratagem. However, Focus Sash makes Breloom a blanket check against set up sweepers, allowing Breloom it to live at least one hit and send a Pokemon to sleep with Spore. A Jolly nature helps outspeed bulkier Pokemon like max speed Scizor, Adamant Bisharp and Neutral natured Altaria. The 252 Attack and Speed EV's EVs boost Breloom Breloom's Attack and Speed Speed and Attack as much as possible, letting it KO Pokemon like Mega Gyarados Gyarados-Mega and outspeed Pokemon others like defensive Heatran Heatran. A Jolly nature is necessary to further outpace max Speed Scizor, Adamant Bisharp, and neutral-natured Altaria.

Usage Tips
========
Breloom gets worn down very quickly and with its bad defenses, it needs all the HP it can get. Because of this, try to bring Breloom in on free switches or through slow U-Turn U-turn U-turns or Volt Switches. Whilst While Breloom has access to Rock Tomb, Flying types Flying-types are deadly and Breloom s is best kept well away from them unless you can predict the switch. you're predicting the switch and clicking Rock Tomb. Avoid Try to keep from setting up Swords Dance until late game when Breloom can clean up with Mach Punch. or if it has a good match-up against the opponents team as with Swords Dance and Mach Punch, Breloom functions best as a cleaner. Along with this, Mach Punch Breloom can also function well as a revenge killer for a lot of Pokemon Including including Stratagem and Cawdomore. Cawdomore (on relatively low health). Sometimes it is worth using Spore more tactically to hit a threat that otherwise wouldn't swtich in on Breloom. Spore can be used to get rid of one of Brelooms slower checks on its team so sometimes it is worth using Spore more carefully to cripple certain checks or counters who might not switch in on a Breloom.

Good setters include Crucibelle who synergises best with Breloom but Heatran and Heatran. also performs well with Breloom. Along with this, Since Breloom is good at eliminating Dark-, Water-, and Ground-types, it can pave the way for Pokemon like Victini. Dark, Water, and Ground types so a Pokemon like Victini could benefit greatly from Breloom paving the way. Breloom appreciates free switches, getting in whilst taking minimal damage, so a Volt Switch or U-Turn U-turn from Pokemon like Crucibelle and Mega Manetric work very well. well alongside Breloom. Set up sweepers like Naviathan, Azumarill Azumarill, and Charizard-X can benefit from Spore and set up on Fire-types; Naviathan can take advantage of Flying-types too. and ones like Naviathan, Azumarill and Charizard-X can set up on fire types and Naviathan can even set up on Flying types too. Reliable Hazard Removal hazard removal is a must if Breloom is using Focus Sash Sash, as it fails to fulfill its role if Focus Sash is broken. it's Sash gets broken by Hazards. Breloom has a lot a lot of positive aspects, including its movepool, ability, and typing. For one, it has Spore, the only 100% accurate sleep move in the game, (AC) which can cripple anything that isn't a Grass-type. This allows Breloom to put pressure on at least one of its checks or counters, making playing around this Pokemon a pain. Spore is a great utility move, as it is guaranteed to cripple one Pokemon (besides the uncommon Grass-types). Breloom gets worn down very quickly and, (AC) with its bad defenses, it needs all the HP it can get. (I got confused and looked up to check what the HP EV investment was. I would strongly recommend rewording this to be: "should preserve its health as much as possible." or something similar to avoid this.) Because of this, try to bring Breloom in on free switches or through slow U-turns or Volt Switches. While Breloom has access to Rock Tomb, Flying-types are deadly and Breloom is best kept well away from them unless you can predict the switch. Try to keep from setting up Swords Dance until late-game (Add hyphen) when Breloom can clean up with Mach Punch. Breloom can also function well as a revenge killer for a lot of Pokemon, (AC) including Stratagem and Cawdomore. Sometimes its worth using Spore more tactically to hit a threat that otherwise wouldn't switch in on Breloom.

Breloom appreciates Pokemon that can deal with its checks and counters. For example, Mega Manectric and Stratagem can take care of Flying-types, Weavile and Colossoil can beat a lot of Psychic-types, (AC) and Talonflame and Crucibelle handle Fire types;, (Remove comma and add a semicolon.) all of these types are difficult for Breloom to handle. Breloom also likes appreciates (Used "like" later on in the sentence. Feels repetitive) Stealth Rock support to help pressure Flying-types, (AC) which Breloom does not like. Good Stealth Rock setters include Crucibelle and Heatran. Since Breloom is good at eliminating Dark-, Water-, and Ground-types, (AC) it can pave the way for a Pokemon like such as Victini. Breloom appreciates free switchins switches in, so a Volt-Switch (Remove hyphen. Volt Switch is two words) or U-turn from Pokemon like such as Crucibelle and Mega Manetric Mega Manectric and Crucibelle (Mega Manectric Volt Switches, while Crucibelle U-turns) work very well. Set up (Remove space. Setup here is one word) sweepers like such as Naviathan, Azumarill, and Charizard-X can benefit from Spore and set up on fire types; Pokemon like (I'm keeping this like because I believe you're comparing the Pokemon to Naviathan. If you meant to use Naviathan as an example, replace "like" with "such as".) Naviathan can do this very especially well. Reliable entry hazard removal is a must if Breloom is using Focus Sash, as it fails to fulfill its role if Focus Sash gets broken. (Remove line break)
Pokemon that can do this well include Steel-types (Add hyphen) like such as Skarmory, Kitsunoh, and Scizor. However, Flying-types like such as Tomohawk, Zapdos, and Togekiss can also work well.

Poison Heal is a good way to beat defensive teams but falters against offensive teams. Substitute allows Breloom to set up on the forced switch but, (AC) with the Life Orb recoil, (AC) whittles it down very quickly. Substitute can work well in tandem with Focus Punch though. **Grass-types** (Add hyphen and lowercase t): Pokemon with Spore immunity and Bullet Seed resistance like such as Mega Venusaur and Necturna can deal big damage back to Breloom with their STABs or coverage moves and take only a little bit of damage from Breloom.

**Flying-types** (Add hyphen and lowercase t): Almost all Flying-types (Add hyphen and capitalize F) can deal with Breloom offensively or defensively, (AC) and Breloom's 4x weakness to Flying doesn't help. Good examples of this include Tornadus-T, Talonflame, and Charizard. However, these Pokemon can easily be KO'd KOed by a Rock Tomb. (Couple comments: 1- I would prefer to see this written: "However, Breloom can KO these Pokemon with Rock Tomb." 2- You say "KO'd by a", are they OHKOed? If so, I think you should specifically mention that. If they aren't OHKOed, remove the "an" as it takes more than one Rock Tomb.) Defensive checks including Tomohawk and Skarmory are more tricky to take down, although Spore can cripple these Pokemon, allowing to allow a partner to come in on the free switch.

**Priority**: Faster priority can 2KHO 2HKO Breloom if not resisted and some can OHKO. This includes Brave Bird from Talonflame and an Ice Shard from Weavile. (I think this should be rewritten: "This includes attacks such as Talonflame's Brave Bird and Weavile's Ice Shard.")

**Poison-types** (Add hyphen and lowercase t): Common Poison-types (Add hyphen and capitalize P) including Gengar and Plasmanta resist Breloom's STAB attacks and hit back with a super effective Sludge Wave pretty easily.

**Fire-types** (Add hyphen and lowercase t): Fast Fire-types (Add hyphen and capitalize F) like such as Talonflame and Volkraken can take little damage from Breloom's STABs moves and hit back super effectively. However, Rock Tomb or Spore can be used on the switch.
