I challenge Rediamond!

"Heh. Two gym leaders have arrived. Great to be back. Great to be back..."

3 vs 3 Gym Singles
Arena=Relic Castle
2 Recovers/5 Chills
Switch=OK
Abilities=All
Substitutions: 2 Per Pokemon
Items=On
Hidden away for centuries, a monster resides at the bottom of the ancient castle. And he is not happy to be disturbed.

Sand pours down from the higher levels in the gigantic throne room of the Relic Castle in Unova. But, that is not nearly so impressive as the set of columns and stone stairs leading up to the ancient throne, or the scope of the chamber. And those fail to capture the potential danger of the angry Volcarona hovering above you.

The arena revolves around both the natural layout of the room, and Volcarona intimidating non-bugs and assisting bug-types in his home.

-No natural water
-Hail, Rain Dance, and Sunny Day may not naturally be used
-Sandstorm costs three less energy to summon
-Trapping moves cost two less energy and last for an additional round
-Any rock move that requires natural rocks used by a non-bug type will result in Volcarona (neutral nature) attacking the user with Fire Spin. This shall be interpreted as Rock Throw, Rock Slide, Rock Tomb, Stone Edge, and Stealth Rock.
-Swarm is automatically active for all Pokemon who have it
-Fly and Bounce will only evade contact moves during their semi-invulnerable phase

It seems that after some months conducting experiments, the Bug Gym Leader, after some time analysing the data, is finally ready to put that knownledge to good use. He reopens his gym with a new layout and his first challenger is a fellow Gym Leader, Texas Cloverleaf. Let's take a closer look at them.

Rediamond was MIA for the last couple of months and returned to the battlefield with style: on a gym battle. Some would say that it is not the best course of action, but that is not up to us to decide. Rediamond is a veteran with a liking for flavor and no so much for avatars. He is around ever since the very begining and since then he has the goal of becoming the Bug Gym leader. After a nice battle against deadfox081, Rediamond was declared the Gym Leader and on 4 battles he only gave away a badge once, against the Rock Gym Leader.

But those battles weren't as serious as they should be. The Gym leader never allowed items and due to unknown circumstances, his other opponents, while good, weren't, at the time, the strongest challengers around. All the other gyms had the chance to prove themselves against other badge-owners in serious matches...it's time for the Bug Gym Leader to also defend his badge against all adversities. By the looks of it, Rediamond is ready.

Play Close attention to Corpus the Heracross. Its good power, useful second typing and good movepool allows it to deal damage with ease.

The challenger is Texas Cloverleaf, the Dragon Gym Leader. Texas is still preparing his Gym, so his prowess as a Gym Leader remains untested. As a Challenger, Texas had mixed results. He got the Flying Badge, but lost against the Electric Gym and the Poison Gym. Maybe he has better luck against the Bug Gym? We will see. But regardless, he has proven to be a strong challenger, fitting of this reopening. Let's see how this pans out.

Pay special attention to HulaCloverPig the Emboar. Aside from being an extremely powerful pokemon, his STABs hit supereffectively 4/6 of the leader's team and the coverage moves hit the other two. And he resists bug x4, which should count for something.

NOW LET'S SEE THE TEAMS!

Team Gym Leader

Volcarona [Flare] (F)
Nature: Bold (+Def, -Att)

Type:
Bug/Fire: Bug STAB; More mobility in dense brush or forest conditions. Gain an extra guaranteed attack on multi-hit moves. Fire STAB; immune to burn, emit a low glow in dark places, takes additional damage if active open flames are exposed to a water attack. Superior senses in volcanic or brushfire areas.

Stats:
HP: 100
Atk-: Rank 1
Def+: Rank 4
SpA: Rank 5
SpD: Rank 4
Spe: 100
Size Class: 3
Weight Class: 3
Base Rank Total: 22

EC: 6/6
MC: 1
DC: 5/5

Abilities:
Flame Body: (Passive) This Pokemon’s external temperature is kept at such a high level that any contact attack used on this Pokemon has a 30% chance of burning the opponent.
Swarm: (Passive) When this Pokemon’s HP is lower than 33% (flat), the Base Attack Power of any Bug-typed attack is increased by 2. (eg Silver Wind goes from 6 to 8, X-Scissor from 8 to 10)
Levitate: (Passive) This Pokemon naturally floats above the earth when released or easily takes flight, evading the Ground moves Bulldoze, Earthquake, Fissure, and Magnitude. Earth Power will have three (3) less Base Attack Power. Dig and Dive can strike a Levitating Pokemon if their user is over Size Class 4, has Levitate, is 3.5m or larger, or is a Flying-type. Otherwise Dig and Dive will miss. Ground moves can still hit. Levitate Pokemon will retain the Levitate trait when they use Skill Swap on an enemy, and will steal the opponent's ability (the user can specify if they want a foe or ally to gain Levitate from a Skill Swap.) If a Pokemon with Levitate uses Role Play, they will copy the opponent's abilities and retain Levitate.

Round 1

The Challenger sends out HulaCloverPig the Emboar, while The Gym Leader counters with Flare the Volcarona with Rocky Helmet. Volcarona is an odd choice versus Emboar, with rock moves and all but oh well.

Flare begins by making 2 clones with Double Team and manages to
Escape Taunt. 2 more clones are made, but this time Stone Edge hits the real Volcarona. Finally, 2 more clones are made and Volcarona manages to evade stone edge once more.

Since Rock Moves were used, Emboar faced the wrath (read: Fire Spin) of the Castle's stray Volcarona. A weak wrath but oh well.

Volcarona: Double Team 2 Clones for 8 energy

Emboar: Taunt for 10 energy
Clone (1=real): 3/3 (clone)

Texas Cloverleaf's turn!

Just posting here to say that I will be gone for about a week at 11:30 today. If we could get in another round before then, it would be great.

If Volcorona uses Double Team, use Heat Wave
If Volcorona uses a Damaging Evasive action without suspense, Head Smash+Giga Impact

Welp. Just got to keep hoping.

Psychic~Psychic~Psychic

I think this works, after Expert Belt, Reckless, and Rocky Helmet are factored in.

Round 2

Flare the Volcarona starts the round by picking on HulaCloverPig's brains with Psychic, while the Emboar just used Heat Wave to get rid of the clones and deal some damage back.

On the second turn, Flare continues the Psychic assault, while the Emboar attacks once more with the powerful Head Smash, dealing a crap load of damage. But receiving almost just as much due to recoil and rocky helmet. Perhaps that wasn't really planned out?

Finally, Flare finishes with a third Psychic, defeating HulaCloverPig. Emboar fainted!

With that, the gym leader has a clear advantage. Not only he drew first blood, but he managed to defeat the pokemon capable of being the biggest trouble for his team to handle. The challenger needs to pick up some slack to get back in the game.

Volcarona: Psychic: (11+3)*1.5 = 21 damage for 7.5 energy
