[OVERVIEW]

Butterfree is a sweeper that can be very effective late-game with Tinted Lens, which can allow it to break past Pokemon that resist its attacks. It lacks a solid Flying-type move, meaning it has to use moves such as Energy Ball and Psychic, which don't gain STAB. Butterfree cannot switch into many Pokemon due to its terrible defensive typing, mediocre defensive stats, and weakness to Stealth Rock. There are also some Pokemon that can take on its attacks well even with a few boosts and Tinted Lens, such as Probopass and Togetic. Butterfree receives competition as a setup sweeper that utilizes Sleep Powder from Jumpluff, but Tinted Lens allows Butterfree to take on Pokemon that usually would wall Jumpluff, such as Ninetales and Drifblim, while Quiver Dance allows it to boost its Speed. Butterfree is also very predictable, seeing as it can only run one viable set.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Sleep Powder can allow free setup and can force an opponent to take away a Pokemon from their team to deal with Butterfree. Quiver Dance allows Butterfree to have a niche in the tier, as Butterfree's only chance to sweep is to boost its offensive stats. Bug Buzz is the only viable STAB move on Butterfree and does a huge hunk of damage to a foe. Any move that you select for Butterfree's final slot will allow it to beat a certain Pokemon but not another. Energy Ball can allow it to take on Ground-, Rock-, and Water-types, while it can use Psychic to take on Roselia, Machoke, and Arbok.

Set Details
========

Life Orb allows Butterfree to get the most out of its damaging capabilities and spamming of its Bug moves, with the downside of losing HP. The EVs provide the best Speed and Special Attack that Butterfree can salvage. A Timid nature allows Butterfree to outspeed the likes of Floatzel and Zebstrika after a Quiver Dance. Tinted Lens is used over Compound Eyes to allow for Butterfree to take on Pokemon that resist its moves better.

Usage Tips
========

Bring in Butterfree during late-game to set up and and attempt a sweep. It is preferred not to put Butterfree on the field if Stealth Rock is on your side, seeing as it heavily cripples it. Depending on the last slot Butterfree is using, be sure to weaken or take out the Pokemon that wall Butterfree.

Butterfree should only set up when faster threats and priority users are eliminated or severely weakened so it won't be crippled by a Taunt or KOed. In most cases, switch Butterfree in after a teammate has fainted or from a slow Baton Pass, U-turn, or Volt Switch from the likes of Togetic, Probopass, Volbeat, and Hypno. Butterfree is able to set up on Pokemon locked into a status or resisted move, a Pokemon the foe has to preserve to win, or a Pokemon Butterfree has a type advantage against, such as Tangela, Beheeyem, or Servine.

Team Options
========

Butterfree needs to be used in combination with an entry hazard remover because Stealth Rock takes away half of its HP from it. Examples include Togetic, Pelipper, Avalugg, Swanna, and Armaldo. It also appreciates entry hazards on its side of the field to weaken foes and break their Focus Sashes. This can be provided by the likes of Golem, Piloswine, Probopass, Monferno, Roselia, and Torterra. With entry hazard support Butterfree can almost guarantee KOs on Pokemon such as Pawniard, Floatzel, and Zebstrika.

Pokemon such as Stoutland, Beheeyem, Simipour, Kadabra, Raichu, Torterra, and Servine weaken or take out specially defensive walls such as Lickilicky and Togetic to allow Butterfree an easier time sweeping. Poliwrath and Machoke specifically can take on Probopass and Piloswine, both of which can give Butterfree a lot of trouble on an attempted sweep, as well as Rock-types in general. This can also be done by Pokemon such as Probopass, Golem, and Stunfisk.

Healing Wish support from either Mr. Mime or Clefairy can allow Butterfree to regain its health and attempt another sweep. Memento also helps by excessively weakening the opposing Pokemon and then allowing Butterfree a free turn of setup. It can be provided by Jumpluff or Misdreavus. Dual screen support from Pokemon such as Meowstic and Solrock can assist Butterfree even more and allow easier setup. Clerics such as Togetic and Lickilicky can heal status from Butterfree to allow for an easier sweep.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Butterfree could hold an Insect Plate, which doesn't give recoil damage but lessens the amount of damage Butterfree is able to deal. It could also hold Leftovers to receive some health back per turn and allow it to stay on the field longer, but Butterfree needs all the power it can get. Focus Sash can allow Butterfree an almost guaranteed Quiver Dance against a foe, which can help a lot late-game. Butterfree could also utilize a lead set with U-Turn, Sleep Powder, Bug Buzz, and a filler move, but it is outclassed by Jumpluff for the most part in such a role. Compound Eyes can be run to allow a high-accuracy Sleep Powder, but such a set often fails to produce any damage against Pokemon with resistances that resist Butterfree's attacks.

Butterfree can run Substitute over the coverage move to avoid status and allow an easier setup. In addition to those sets, Butterfree can run a dual powder set with Stun Spore and Sleep Powder to have speed control on the other team and be able to put a Pokemon to sleep. Butterfree could run a Modest nature to achieve more damage output in general, but then it loses to Floatzel and Zebstrika after a Quiver Dance.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Stealth Rock**: Pokemon such as Golem, Probopass, Piloswine, Carracosta, Monferno, and Aurorus can severely hurt Butterfree with their Stealth Rock, which will cut down half of Butterfree's HP by half and can make it easy to revenge kill. All of these Pokemon have moves that are super effective against Butterfree, such as Volt Switch on Probopass, Blizzard on Aurorus, Rock Blast on Golem, and Overheat on Monferno.

**Priority**: Seeing as how Butterfree has pretty small defensive capabilities with the addition of being weakened by Life Orb recoil, priority moves from the likes of Piloswine, Basculin, and Carracosta can break down Butterfree fairly quickly.

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: Pokemon such as Togetic, Pelipper, Lickilicky, Clefairy, Misdreavus, and Roselia have the specially defensive capabilities to easily take on Butterfree if they aren't weakened that much and can it down with status moves.

**Quicker Pokemon**: Butterfree on its own has a pretty low base Speed in comparison to most attackers. Before a boost Butterfree is outsped by any Pokemon above base 70 Speed with a boosting nature or any Pokemon above base 85 Speed with a neutral nature. After a Quiver Dance boost, Butterfree is outsped by Pokemon such as Swift Swim Poliwrath, Chlorophyll Sawsbuck, Leafeon, and Victreebel as well as boosted Ninjask, Agility Kingler, and Agility Articuno. It is also outsped by Choice Scarf users such as Dodrio, Rotom-F, Sawsbuck, Raichu, and Mr. Mime, which can deal solid damage against it.

**Fast Taunt**: Pokemon such as Dodrio, Floatzel, and Misdreavus can outpace and Taunt Butterfree, which prevents it from using Sleep Powder or Quiver Dance and can shut Butterfree down before it is able to attempt a sweep.

**Phazers**: Pokemon such as Avalugg, Piloswine, and Poliwrath can phaze out Butterfree and make it lose its stat boosts.

**Status**: Poison and burn can severely shorten the length of Butterfree's sweep, while paralysis can end a sweep on its own by making Butterfree even slower and easier to manage.

Not QC, but I think Tinted Lens is better than Compoundeyes. It's higher risk, but much higher reward. Butterfree isn't sweeping anything with Compoundeyes coverage. Tinted Lens concedes a 25% chance to miss for the chance to actually sweep.

Life Orb should probably be mentioned in Other Options or at least a slash (it's on the NU analysis). It makes it useless vs hyper offense but gives it a better chance vs slower teams.

Timid should be the nature IMO as without it you lose to zebby at +1 (also presian/floatzel) which is very crucial - you only need 176 iirc evs for that. Modest can prolly get a mention in set details. I also dont think focus sash should be the item as you shouldnt be trying to set up on stuff that can otherwise ohko you (instead you should sleep then set up), especcially in such a priority dominant metagame, and instead insect plate or life orb is probably the best (probably should be slashed before sash).

I agree that tinted lens is better as otherwise two coverage moves isnt enough (w/ eball/hp fight you lose to flyings, etc). The only things that 4* resist bug are togetic/monferno/drifblim, with the first being very important so i think hp fighting shouldnt be mentioned, and that the last slot should be a slash between psychic and energy ball (sball only really hits ghosts and is weaker than the others), with eball first.

Other opinions are obviously welcome

Not QC, but I'll help out where i can. Anyway here is the set:

name: Quiver Dance
move 1: Sleep Powder
move 2: Quiver Dance
move 3: Bug Buzz
move 4: Energy Ball / Psychic
item: Life Orb
ability: Tinted Lens
nature: Timid
evs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

Moves
==========

-I know you're not done with this, but I would make the changes mentioned above when you get the chance.
-For the last point, just mention what Pokemon Butterfree would nail with its coverage move instead of saying its a blind spot. Coverage is good regardless of the move chosen.

Set Details
==========

-Talk about why Life Orb is the preferred item.
-Mention Timid as well when you modify the set, as Butterfree can outspeed Pokemon such as Zebstrika and Floatzel at +1.

Usage Tips
========

-Mention that Butterfree shouldn't be switching in on strong attacks and instead should be coming in after a teammate has fainted, or from a slow Volt Switch, U-Turn, or Baton Pass.
-Give some examples of Pokemon that Butterfree can set up on.
-The last point you made is pretty vague. Instead say that Butterfree should set up when faster threats and priority users are eliminated or weakened enough where Butterfree can take it out on its own.

Team Options
========

-You mention entry hazard setters, but give some examples of some Pokemon that Butterfree can take out with entry hazard support.
-Mention wallbreakers that can get rid off Special Walls that Butterfree can't break past while softening the opponent's team.
-Healing Wish support from Mr. Mime can be mentioned to give Butterfree a second chance at sweeping.
-Mention Memento support as well from Pokemon such as Jumpluff making it easier to set up.
-Dual Screen support from Solrock or Meowstic also makes it easier on Butterfree to to set up.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

-Remove the first three points, as this is part of the main set. Keep the mention of Sleep Powder + 3 attacks and Choice Specs tho.
-Mention SilverPowder as it can boost Butterfree's Bug-type STAB with the recoil of Life Orb.

Checks and Counters
===================

-Rename "Entry Hazards" to "Stealth Rock" or "Passive Damage" as Butterfree is immune to Spikes, Toxic Spikes, and Sticky Web. I don't really know about putting Torterra here as Stealth Rock variants don't carry Stone Edge. Plus Life Orb recoil wears down Butterfree fast so also mention priority users than can take out a weakened Butterfree or wear it down enough where it can't effectively sweep.
-Mention Specially defensive Pokemon that can withstand Butterfree's attacks.
-Give examples of Pokemon can outspeed an unboosted Butterfree and can force it out or outright KO it. The same thing goes for mentioning Choice Scarf users who can outspeed and KO Butterfree after a Quiver Dance.

i still think an "anti-lead" set has more merit than offensive qd despite both being pretty terrible this metagame. we discussed this in the pu group iirc but i'm not sure what conclusion was reached

don't mention other quiver dance users in the op, yes butterfree is better than all of them but they're all irrelevant.

emphasize in the overview that it has a ton of difficulty setting up, especially in such a fast metagame.

mention swanna when you mention hazard removal

mention lefties in oo

in team options, physical wallbreakers don't wear down special walls, special wallbreakers do, so mention them instead.

remove drifblim from c&c, it isn't a special wall. don't mention poliwrath under priority users either because vaccuum wave does like 5% to +1 butterfree.

implement this and i will stamp.

Overview:
Dont mention compound eyes as it isnt mentioned on the set
Also mention its another niche over pluff being its ability to boost its own speed

Set:
When you say what psychic hits, replace poliwrath w/ rose as poli is hit by eball anyway

For UT, butterfree doesnt have a type advantage over mr mime and i dont think it should be setting up on kadabra either as if its sash is up it can easily 2HKO butterfree

In TO, specifically mention pokes that can take on probopass, as that is butterfrees main counter

For c&c faster pokemon, you shouldnt mention examples like rp torterra as its not like butterfree will set up on a +2 torterra, nor will torterra set up on a boosted butterfree

This analysis is looking solid so QC 2/3

Overviews starts weird you should intro the pokemon more i guess

rest generally looks fine but you should "split" your partner suggestions more i guess since it is a list that isnt pleasant to watch

i wouldnt really split up sections but thats preferential

[OVERVIEW]
in the intro just say that it's a setup sweeper that works best into late-game, remove the underrated and powerful part.
Compound Eyes can allow Butterfree to break past Pokemon which resist its attacks and sweep easier. thats tinted lens not compound eyes, also move the last part there, so you dont have to mention tinted lens two times, also mention competition with other bug flying pokemon.
It lacks a solid Flying Type STAB and tends to lose out a lot of Power and good coverage in the process. this doesnt have sense, just make it more clear and say losing out flying stab means it has to rely on weaker moves such as psychic and energy ball to hit pkmn that resist bug buzz.
mention it is predictable as it can basically run just one viable set.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
mention that quiver dance also provides a spdef boost, which could be nice especially against special attacking revengekillers.
mention that energy ball and psychic are used for coverage purposes as butterfree lacks a good special flying STAB, and that the choice on what to use depends on the team needs.

Set Details
========
life orb doesnt make butterfree's defenses more frail, it just makes it even more easy to wear down.
dont even mention the hp spread.
mention tinted lens there, and why it is used over compound eyes.

Usage Tips
========
Bring in and utilize Butterfree during late-game to kill off weakened foes and attempt a sweep. p sure you meant after KOing weakened foes, otherwise you should replace and with or, as if butterfree will act as a sort of revengekiller lategame to KO weakened foes, it will not be really able to find space to set up and sweep.
why butterfree should be wary about faster foes?(ie: bad bulk)
which is mainly Tangela, Beheeyem, and Servine. these are not the only one, replace with such as.

Team Options
========
why it needs hazard removal support? talk about it, this is an important point.
most of the pokemon you mention as an answer to special walls(you have to mention some special walls too), aren't really wallbreakers(poliwrath, zebstrika and regice are glaring issues as they really aren't wallbreakers), mention other such as stout or torterra.
poli and machoke help with rock-types in general, which trouble butterfree, in general, so I would specify it.
mention more pokemon with typing-synergy, you could for example more pokemon that can deal with rock-types, and some that can tank flying- and ice-type moves too.
clerics can also help butterfree getting rid of annoying statuses such as paralysis.
mention memento users.
mention screen users.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
mention dual powder.

Checks and Counters
===================
aim for at least two lines of content into sr category, and every one of them in general
just make a category named status, mention statuses burn and toxic, which can cut off butterfree hp bar quickly, and paralysis which basically doesnt let it sweep.
mention faster taunt users such as missy.
mention phazers.

do this BenOhver and tag me, I'll stamp then.

Moves
========

Sleep Powder is a very important move in Butterfree's back pocket which can allow it free Set up setup for the most part and can force an opponent to take away a Pokemon from their team to deal with Butterfree it. Quiver Dance is one of the main moves on this set which allows Butterfree to have a niche in the tier. Butterfree's only chance to sweep is to boost its offensive stats. The move is great in terms of assisting Butterfree on what it wants to achieve which is gaining a better Speed and higher Special Attack as well as taking special hits better from the Special Defense boost. Bug Buzz is the main and only viable STAB move on Butterfree which does a huge hunk of damage against a foe and is the main move it is going to spam after getting its boosts. The last spot is truly a blind spot seeing as it lacks a powerful Flying Type move. Any move that you select for Butterfree's final slot will beat a certain Pokemon but not another and there is no really "right move" to place there. Energy Ball can take on Ground-, Rock- and Water-types Types well while Psychic can take on Roselia, Machoke, and Arbok among others.

Set Details
========

Life Orb allows Butterfree to get the most out of its damaging capabilities and spamming of its Bug moves with the downside of lost HP making it easier to wear down. The EVs are basic to allow for the best Speed and Special Attack that Butterfree can salvage. A Timid nature allows Butterfree to outspeed the likes of Floatzel and Zebstrika after a Quiver Dance while it does sacrifice some damage output. Tinted Lens is used over Compound Eyes to allow for Butterfree to take on Pokemon that resist its moves better.

Usage Tips
========

Bring in and utilize Butterfree during late-game to to set up knock out weakened foes and and attempt a sweep. It is preferred to not to put Butterfree on the field if Stealth Rock is on your side seeing as it can get weakened easily. Depending on the last slot Butterfree is using, be sure to weaken or take out the Pokemon that wall Butterfree it with that move before attempting a sweep and to break the foes' Focus Sash(s).

Be aware of what Butterfree can or cannot outspeed.
Butterfree should only Set set up when faster threats and priority users are eliminated or severely weakened so it won't be crippled by a Taunt or KOed or gets its already low Defenses challenged. In most cases, switch Butterfree in after a teammate has fainted or from a slow Baton Pass, U-turn, or Volt Switch by the likes of Togetic, Probopass, Volbeat, and Hypno. Butterfree is able to set up on Pokemon locked into a status or resisted move Not Very Effective Move, a Pokemon the foe has to preserve to win, or a Pokemon Butterfree has a type advantage on such as Tangela, Beheeyem, and Servine.

Team Options

Butterfree needs to be used in combination with an entry hazard remover Hazard Remover because Stealth Rock takes half of its HP from it and lessens the amount of damage it can do to an opposing team. This Examples includes Pokemon such as Togetic, Pelipper, Avalugg, Swanna, and Armaldo. It also appreciates entry hazards on its side of the field to weaken foes and break their Focus Sashes. This can be done provided by the likes of Golem, Piloswine, Probopass, Monferno, Roselia, and Torterra. With entry hazard support Butterfree can almost guarantee kills KOs on Pokemon such as Pawniard, Floatzel, and Zebstrika.

Pokemon such as Stoutland, Beheeyem, Simipour, Kadabra, Raichu, Torterra, and Servine weaken or take out Specially Defensive Walls specially defensive walls such as Lickilicky or Togetic to allow Butterfree an easier time sweeping. Poliwrath and Machoke specifically can take on Probopass and Piloswine which both can give Butterfree a lot of trouble on an attempted sweep as well as Rock- Type moves in general. This can also be done by Pokemon such as Probopass, Golem, and Stunfisk.

Healing Wish support from either Mr. Mime or Clefairy can allow Butterfree to regain its health, come in fresh and attempt another sweep at full health. Memento also helps works at this job by excessively weakening the opposing Pokemon and then allowing Butterfree a free turn of Quiver Dancing. (period) It can be provided which can be done by Jumpluff or Misdreavus. Dual screen support from by Pokemon such as Meowstic or Solrock support can assist Butterfree even more and allow an easier setup Set up. Clerics such as Togetic and Lickilicky can heal status off from Butterfree to allow for an easier sweep.

It could also hold Leftovers to receive some health back per turn and allow it to stay on the field longer, but Butterfree needs all the power it can get. Focus Sash can allow Butterfree an almost guaranteed Quiver Dance against a foe which can help a lot late-game during later game. Compound Eyes can be run to allow a high-accuracy Sleep Powder, but such a set often fails to produce the any damage it needs.

Instead of Quiver Dance Butterfree could run a set with Sleep Powder and 3 attacks with Life Orb to allow for better coverage at the expense of Quiver Dance or just 4 attacks with Choice Specs. Butterfree can run Substitute over the coverage move to avoid status and allow an easier Set setup. In addition to those sets, Butterfree can run a dual powder set with Stun Spore and Sleep Powder to have speed control on the other team as well as being able to put a Pokemon to sleep if you can. Butterfree could run a Modest nature to allow for more damage output in general, but then loses crucial outspeeds on to Floatzel and Zebstrika after a Quiver Dance.

Checks and Counters

**Fast Taunt**: Pokemon such as Dodrio, Floatzel, and Misdreavus can outpace and Taunt Butterfree which disallows prevents it from using Sleep Powder or Quiver Dance and can shut Butterfree down before it is able to attempt a sweep.

**Phazers**: Pokemon such as Avalugg, Roar Piloswine, and Poliwrath can phaze out Butterfree and make it lose its stat boosts and can prevent a sweep.

**Status**: Poison and burn can severely shorten the amount length of Butterfree's sweep, while paralysis can end a sweep on its own by making Butterfree even slower and easier to manage.

oh also mention that lead is mostly outclassed by jumpluff (not entirely lol) so that's why it isnt v great etc etc

Poliwrath and Machoke specifically can take on Probopass and Piloswine, (AC) which both of which can give Butterfree a lot of trouble on an attempted sweep, (AC) as well as Rock moves Rock-types in general. This can also be done by Pokemon such as Probopass, Golem, and Stunfisk.

Healing Wish support from either Mr. Mime or Clefairy can allow Butterfree to regain its health and attempt another sweep. Memento also helps by excessively weakening the opposing Pokemon and then allowing Butterfree a free turn of Quiver Dancing setup. It can be provided by Jumpluff or Misdreavus. Dual screen support from Pokemon such as Meowstic or and Solrock can assist Butterfree even more and allow easier setup. Clerics such as Togetic and Lickilicky can heal status from Butterfree to allow for an easier sweep.

Other Options
=============

Butterfree could hold an Insect Plate, (AC) which doesn't give recoil damage (RC) but lessens the amount of damage Butterfree is able to deal. It could also hold Leftovers to receive some health back per turn and allow it to stay on the field longer, but Butterfree needs all the power it can get. Focus Sash can allow Butterfree an almost guaranteed Quiver Dance against a foe, (AC) which can help a lot late-game.

In addition to those sets, Butterfree can run a dual powder set with Stun Spore and Sleep Powder to have speed control on the other team as well as being and be able to put a Pokemon to sleep. Butterfree could run a Modest nature to allow for achieve more damage output in general, but then it loses to Floatzel and Zebstrika after a Quiver Dance.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Stealth Rock**: Pokemon such as Golem, Probopass, Piloswine, Carracosta, Monferno, or and Aurorus can severely hurt Butterfree with their Stealth Rock, which will cut down half of Butterfree's HP by half and can make it easy to revenge kill. All of these Pokemon have moves that are super effective against Butterfree, (AC) such as Volt Switch on Probopass, Blizzard on Aurorus, Rock Blast on Golem, or and Overheat on Monferno.

Mime, (AC) which can deal solid damage against it.

**Fast Taunt**: Pokemon such as Dodrio, Floatzel, and Misdreavus can outpace and Taunt Butterfree, (AC) which prevents it from using Sleep Powder or Quiver Dance and can shut Butterfree down before it is able to attempt a sweep.
