The Doubles metagame has never really been explored to the fullest extent. Although VGC does do this in part, it puts limitations on the number of Pokemon that one can bring, applies a set timer (both of which make stall a barely viable playstyle), and forces a maximum level of 50 (which causes a few important speed ties among extremely slow Pokemon). Otherwise, the potential of a variety of banned Pokemon has either once - in the case of those usable in VGC 2010 - or never - in the case of Arceus (and other event legendaries) and the 5th generation legendary Pokemon - been tested before. This metagame aims to examine the virtually unknown aspects of this fascinating playstyle.

Weather will be omnipresent in the tier. Kyogre stands out as one of the most powerful Pokemon initially - it wields a strong 112.5 BP move that hits both opponents with double STAB from 150 base attack (while also being able to run the far less variable Surf, Scald, and Hydro Pump) and has fantastic coverage in Thunder and Ice Beam to compliment its STAB move of choice. Groudon is also quite powerful, also possesses a spread move - one that hits most Pokemon on their weaker sides - and also summons a weather of its own. Notably, both have the same base Speed, which may cause speed tie issues - whichever the game considers to be slower will get weather up first, creating a huge advantage. Arceus, which is obviously a strong contender in any tier that it inhabits, is also a formidable foe. Interestingly, just as Kyogre and Groudon's STAB moves of choice are limited, Arceus itself is limited by a relative lack of spread moves outside of Surf, Heat Wave, and Earthquake. Still, its STAB moves are still fantastic - Extremespeed outspeeds all normal priority moves and Judgement is as powerful as ever. Trick Room is not to be forgotten - Arceus, Dialga, and Palkia all possess this strange move and offensive Trick Room can be a powerful force. Altogether, this mix makes for an exciting and unique tier unlike any other.
