CAP 12 CAP 1 - Art Submissions

Just thought I'd join in.

Inspired by Pencak Silat (Indonesian martial art) and the Rangkong (Indonesian Hornbill).

WIP of course, color palette's probably black, red, and yellow

I'm not expecting to win with this.

It's an angry weight attached to a parachute. I'm hilarious.
Great concept!

Just add some arms with HUGE fists to make it look more Fighting like ;)
:naughty:

But I think CyzirVisheen's submission been the one who stood out most to me. But many good submissions so far. Look forward to see what else comes up :)

@Mektar: The only thing that's missing is a couple of beefy arms.

And yeah, I did actually lol at that.

EDIT: So what X-I omg said.

Also really loving Aragornbird's SUPERBIRD!

My only problem with Elagune's eagle is that it reminds me, quite a lot, of Blaziken.

CyzirVisheen and Cartoons have my favorite designs so far.

Just a source of inspiration here.

I think the pseudo-wyverns, particularly the one above, from the monster hunter series are pretty slick in their design, and express flying / fighting pretty well. I'm not good at drawing at all though, so thought I'd just throw it out there.

Loving aragornbird's and Cartoons!'s design as always.
Narga isn't nearly hard enough to be fighting. Tigrex is far harder and as such would be better for a Fly/Fighting mon.

have you ever been attacked by a goose or a swan? they can break ribs and limbs with their wings. do you know how much strength it takes to flap your wings to get off the ground?
Geese and swans are pretty badass, true. I was thinking more of the hybrid arm/wings that some people are doing as being fragile or unrealistic even assuming very simplified anatomy. I know that we're talking cartoons here, sometimes we can go really far with silliness and style, but there still has to be some decent sense of structure.

More flying panda artwork, this time actually flying. Do you guys prefer the brown to the black of the previous version? Feed backs?

So far, Fatecrashers, Cartoons, Not Scicky, and Aragornbird's concepts are my favorite. I really don't care for most of the Blaziken-like fighting birds that walk upright. They just don't look very flying to me, more just bird. :/ but there is still plenty of time for development and I look forward to seeing more designs from everyone!

Sentret, I think your panda is fantastic. Definitely a unique take on the typing (though I fear that the grass shoots on its head may be a bit confusing, they do look good though). I might be curious to see how it looks with more emphasis on the clouds, and I think I prefer black to brown, again to avoid the grass-type connotations. Very nice submission!

There are a ton of very good drawings so far, great work guys!

@Cartoons! --- Love your design! Looks awesome. My favorite so far.

@aragornbird --- Love your design! Second favorite!

All of these are great so far, but my two favourites would be Paris' and Aragornbird's.

Paris' "Luchairdor" design is quirky and fun, and I particularly enjoy the facial expressions, and the design of the talon fists is cool.

Aragornbird's "Swooper" is a great concept and has been executed well, making for a great design.

I made some revisions to my quetzalcoatlus idea. (first version and explanation here):

I made the skeleton more faithful (though not entirely so) to actual pterosaurs. I additionally added higher shoulders and made the pectoral muscles (arguably one of the more important parts of pterosaur flight) more prominent.

I would appreciate feedback, what parts you preferred from the original, and what parts you prefer in this design.

Comments on other submissions:

Nastyjungle: Nice! You might want a slightly more intimidating pose, though.
Sentret: Probably one of the most creative concepts yet-though it doesn't seem...fighting...anymore. Might want to improve on it.
Aragornbird: IT'S A BIRD! IT'S A PLANE! IT'S SUPERMAN! No wait, it's a bird-but it's no ordinary bird, it's SUPERBIRD!

All Superman jokes aside, this is a fairly unique griffin character. I hope it will place well.
Mektar: Just add boxing gloves.
thebangzats: I encourage you to color it.

Right, I think this fits in the limit. My last post was 4 pixels over.

Woodpecker: Eesh it's hard to imply missing teeth in a bird. Still my favourite design, though it needs a new pose or it will fall over, and if the CAP is going to be bulky it might not be the best choice.
Paratrooper: Yay, I ninja'd someone! Fists do look better and more pokemony then the sword and blaster, and I gave it a turtle hat for the lulz. I wish I could make the parachute look more like a part of the creature though, like the other guy did.

Scuflcopter: Thanks to Tortferngatr for convincing me not to dump this, I gave it another try and I think I've salvaged it from the joke pile. I still think the face needs work, and maybe I should work on the proportions, but if the CAP does turn out to be more bulky I think this will end up as my submission.

I reckon the winner of this will be someone without a humanoid bird design, it's kinda hard to make them stand out from the rest. I had a list of my favourites but I think it included over half the thread.

Gonna do a feedback dump now:

aragornbird: haha wow that is amazing. Colour palette and everything is perfect.

Not Scicky: CUUUUUUUUUUUTE~

Cartoons: Fantastic as always! Don't know what to say besides that.

Calad: How did you know I was a sucker for bandanas/things that look like bandanas. Nice.

WPS: Gonna say the Paratrooper has the most potential here. I think you should emphasize the fighting aspect a little more, the parachute alone is enough to indicate a flying type in my opinion.

I agree with Paras, that you should develop the paratrooper concept. Maybe give a kind of combat specialist army look.

Nastyjungle, as if I don't gush over your work in your own thread enough! Your design is my favorite so far. It's fresh, it's fun, I like the colour scheme and its proportions, and I think this would be true even without your strong linework and colouring.

Tortferngater, I like pterodactyls and would like to see you take another stab at this concept it possible. First, I'd stay away from the straight line tool, as shaky fallible human lines are a lot more appealing than the cold perfection a computer provides. Perhaps separate the musculature of the forearms from the wings and elongate the body a little, a looks a little squished.

SIHYLSentret, your panda has a really calm, wistful look about it, which I really enjoy, and which I think matches what may be our stat spread really well. The clouds as a means with which it gets lift is a nice touch, so I don't know if giving it a traditional 'bird' pose in flight is the best direction to go with it. Perhaps if it could fly with cloud swirls carrying it while erect or in a sitting position?

Here's the idea I am currently working with. I want to stay away from "martial arts birds", since there are several really good ones already posted. I'm going with a "Red Baron Fighter Plane". Based loosely on the Red Baron's Fokker DR1 Tri-plane (for you aviation fans out there).

Obviously, this thing will have a heavy red coloring. The teeth in the front are meant to be reminiscent of the engine in the old prop planes, but still be clearly the mouth of the pokemon. In general, I tried to merge several airplane elements into pokemon morphology.

I can easily imagine the baby pre-evo having one wing, and then a bi-plane for the middle evo. Lots of fun stuff is going through my mind on this design. For physical fighting move fans -- what says "Close Combat" better than the most maneuverable close fighting dogfighter plane in WWI!

More to come as I develop this further.

@Elagune the only thing that i don't like about your art is that with the forearm spikes, it starts to look more like a dark type.

@Aragorn bird HA!

@Cartoons! It looks awesome, but it has only a portion of pokemon in it... and, it doesn't look like a fighting type much to me.

i have a cool picture of a fighting flying pokemon in my head, but i can't draw, so i'll have to settle with commenting on others. :(

I use PowerPoint (yay student discounts on Microsoft office!), not Photoshop, and I don't have a tablet. Not sure how good fallible lines look when they're done via mouse rather than by pen/marker/pencil.

I could try a few RL drawing renditions. I MIGHT be able to enlongate the body a little-though I have no idea as to how to go about this.

I'll try letting some of the forearms show through the wings and see how that goes.

Edit: Gah, looks like I'm going to have to tone down the muscles a bit as well-the stat spreads are looking very unfriendly to a physical attacker.

Dracoyoshi8: i like the idea of going with a flying monkey creature a la wizard of oz. i prefer your second version over the first.

Superguh007:this has enormous potential. anyway to emphasize its fighting features in the lower limbs?

SIHYLSentret:PANDA! As with what Cartoons! was saying, maybe a zen floating pose could work? the clouds look terrific and im digging the approach to the flying aspect

DJD: Excellent idea creatively executed - is the part on his head a ponytail? Im thinking the designs on the tips of the wings might look good as blade like fins similar in style to gallades hands.

Me again!
It's friday, so I have lots of time to draw up stuff. I've taken the advice I was given and revised the paratrooper:

into

I've got it to man the hell up and gain some muscles and fighting gear, as well as redesigned the parachute so that it's formed from two wings. I haven't managed to draw this version in the original position to my satisfaction yet, but I'm working on it.
Oh and I decided if a paratrooper is going to have a turtle hat, it may as well be a kooper paratrooper shell.

Judging by the Stat spreads decided on, the chosen design will have to be bulky, with more Special Att then Attack, so almost certainly will have to learn Aura sphere (and Hurricane or Airslash). As such, I was wondering if I should bring the blaster back? (Other drawing is of a power glove.)

I'm loving this one the most so far... its taking things away from the idea of birds and giving it a whole new look. Good stuff like always doug :)

Here is the update of my concept:

I really rushed the previous one, so hopefully this is much better.
I wouldl ove to hear some comments :)

ps: think of lowering the whole body more into the cloud so the upper arms are covered by the cloud

I've been working on This:

I've been thinking about a flying/fighting combo for some time and I realize Hermes was a great inpiration (as posted above for another user), i wanted to create a female fighter and i used Hermes air sandals combined with the sleeves of those Asian fighting monks, the giant fan in it's back is to emphatize air control, and the sign on it means Destiny, in that she can change the winds of destiny with stepping in the battlefield, in the sleeves she has coins (maybe i could change them into meowth ones) because of the change in fortune (momentum) and her chess is full of feathers to retain flying elements (another part of my inpiration were the original mermaids, flying creatures that drive the sailors to their doom, thats the reason she doesn't has a mouth) like the one from Honchcrow, and her hair is the hairstyle that most reminded me of birds and the one it seemed more appropiate, Any thoughs? Feedback is highly appreciate
