Hi all, let's keep up this momentum!

Navaiathan is mostly a jack of all trades, with fairly even stats apart from a drop in Special Defence. Starters would logically be the best place to look for analogues.

Stats: 103 HP / 110 Atk / 90 Def / 95 SpA / 65 SpD / 97 Spe

Think out some good stats for both the first and second form.

I'd like things submitted separately, but would like to see links between the evos. Haven't quite decided how I am going to poll them out yet.

HP / Att / Def / Spcl Att / Spcl Def / Spe -> HP / Att / Def / Spcl Att / Spcl Def / Spe

This thread will be open for about 36 hours! Get deciding on your stats! I will put a post up tomorrow morning of a 12 hour warning. I will accept Final Submissions from the immediate start of this thread. Please mark posts as such so I can find Final Submissions easily among the discussions!

While I have added you can FS from the start: Please add justification! A post with no justification will not get slated.

63 HP / 70 Atk / 40 Def / 55 SpA / 45 SpD / 57 Spe -> 83 HP / 90 Atk / 80 Def / 75 SpA / 55 SpD / 47 Spe

The Attack and Special Attack increase by 20 each time, while Speed decreases by 10 as it evolves into the middle stage, but then experiences a huge jump of 50. The middle stage is bulkier in comparison to emphasize Calm Mind, while the basic stage is faster but defensively weaker to emphasize Dragon Dance, hence the slightly higher Speed stat and Swift Swim.

-> 73 HP / 85 Atk / 65 Def / 80 SpA / 40 SpD / 87 Spe

Naviathan's stats for reference: 103 HP / 110 Atk / 90 Def / 95 SpA / 65 SpD / 97 Spe

Naviathan has a BST of 560, which is only shared by Mega Camerupt and Mega Sharpedo, so there's no perfect family of Pokemon to do a direct comparison with here. If you look at several of the popular three stage evolution lines, especially those of the starters, there is oftentimes a larger jump in BST from the middle -> final stage than from the first -> middle stage. Take the Mudkip line for example; there is a 95 BST jump between Mudkip and Marshtomp, and a much more noticeable 130 BST jump between Marshtomp and Swampert. I decided to model these stat spreads after this line with comparable jumps in BST (335 BST -> 430 BST -> 560 BST).

Seeing as Swift Swim was chosen for the hidden ability, I opted to go with the logic that the pre-evolutions will have a bit of a light and speedy sort of feel to them, so I kept their Speed stats relatively high, with smallish jumps in Speed with each evolution as it becomes bigger and bulkier. Keeping with this theme, I gave it much beefier boosts to its defensive stats with each evolution, especially so with the middle -> final stage. In the first stage, its attacking stats are equal, with it becoming more defined as a physical attacker as it evolves.
Change in stats with each evolution

Change in HP: 25, 30
Change in Attack: 15, 25
Change in Defense: 25, 25
Change in Special Attack: 10, 15
Change in Special Defense: 10, 25
Change in Speed: 10, 10
Change in BST: 95, 130

56 HP / 59 Atk / 47 Def / 53 SpA / 38 SpD / 55 Spe -> 81 HP / 83 Atk / 64 Def / 72 SpA / 54 SpD / 79 Spe

I decided to split my process for handling base stats into two separate portions. The first section involved taking the overall BST for Naviathan and search for two other Water-type Pokemon that not only have similar BST, but a three-part evolution line as well.

Naviathan's BST is 560. The closest Pokemon in BST are Kingra and Swampert, with 540 and 535 BST respectively. From here I took their pre-evolutions and found the two averages between them.

Horsea = 295 BST, Mudkip = 310 BST, 295 + 310 = 605 / 2 = 302.5 rounding upwards to 303.
Seadra = 440 BST, Marshtomp = 405 BST, 440 + 405 = 845 / 2 = 422.5 rounding upwards to 423.

Since Naviathan's BST is still slightly above Kingdra and Swampert, I decided to boost up the BST of the two pre-evolutions by 5 and 10, respectively. This left the targest BSTs for Naviathan's pre-evolutions as 308 and 433.

The second part involved taking a Water-type fully-evolved starter Pokemon with its most drastic stats relatively similar to Naviathan. Since Attack and Special Defense are Naviathan's highest and lowest stats, I decided it would be best to compare those. Interestingly, Samurott base stat total of 95/100/85/108/70/70 was rather similar to Naviathan's at 103/110/90/95/65/97. I chose it instead of Swampert because Swampert's speed was too low and special defense too high for reasonable comparison.

From here, I began dividing Samurott's pre-evolution stats by either it's next-in-line or final stats, and took the number to multiply by Naviathan's base stats and find possible starting values for Naviathan's pre-evolutions.

The reason I did this was to simulate a relatively similar build-up in stats as the Oshawott line, and since the base stats for Samurott and Naviathan were fairly alike, I felt comfortable taking their own stat mold and adapting it to fit in Naviathan's line.

1st pre-evolution to final evolution rounded up
HP: 55/95=.58(103)=60
Atk: 55/100=.55(110)=61
Def: 45/85=.53(90)=48
SpA: 63/108=.58(95)=55
SpD: 45/70=.64(65)=42
Spe: 45/70=.64(97)=62

2nd pre-evolution to 1st pre-evolution
HP: 75/55=1.36(60)=82
Atk: 75/55=1.36(61)=83
Def: 60/45=1.33(48)=64
SpA: 83/63=1.32(55)=73
SpD: 60/45=1.33(42)=56
Spe: 60/45=1.33(62)=83

This takes the base stats to 60/61/48/55/42/62 and 82/83/64/73/56/83. The main concern when seeing these stat spreads was how abnormally high the Speed was compared to Naviathan's final base Speed. However, using a bit of creative liberty and attempting to match with my earlier BSTs of 308 and 433, I could afford to fix this problem.

1st evolution
60/61/48/55/42/62 BST:328
Target BST: 308
HP: 60 - 4
Atk: 61 - 2
Def: 48 - 1
SpA: 55 - 2
SpD: 42 - 4
Spe: 62 - 7
Overall: -20
56/59/47/53/38/55 BST: 308

2nd evolution
82/83/64/73/56/83 BST: 441
Target BST: 433
HP: 82 - 1
Atk: 83 - 0
Def: 64 - 0
SpA: 73 - 1
SpD: 56 - 2
Spe: 83 - 4
Overall: - 8
81/83/64/72/54/79 BST: 433

Thus I satisfied the need to drop Speed and round out my base stat totals to hit the previous goals. For reference, 308 BST is equal to fifth generation starters, and 433 BST is 3 above Lairon.

Edit: I liked sparktrain's idea of presenting the changes in base stats throughout the evolutionary line since it presents information more effectively, so I will steal include one as well.

73 HP / 60 Atk / 50 Def / 55 SpA / 30 SpD / 47 Spe -> 88 HP / 90 Atk / 70 Def / 75 SpA / 45 SpA / 57 Spe

For this set of evolutions, I have decided to loosely base my decisions on the Walrein model. Both these Walrein and Naviathan have high Base Stat Totals and probably live in frigid oceans.

Let's compare their stats closely:

Walrein: 110 / 80 / 90 / 95 / 90 / 65 (530)
Naviathan: 103 / 110 / 90 / 95 / 65 / 97 (560)

Pretty similar, right? You could swap Naviathan's Speed and Special Defense, and the two would be much more paired.

So, let's look at Sealeo / NFEiathan

Sealeo: 90 / 60 / 70 / 75 / 70 / 45 (410)
NFEiathan: 88 / 90 / 70 / 75 / 45 / 57 (425)

I've tried to keep the reductions from the fully evolved Pokemon consistent for both, only I've taken a little more speed from our Stage two Pokemon in order to Balance it against Sealeo, but also for flavour reasons; Pokemon that lose swift swim tend to be slower. 93 seemed too high and 83 seemed too low for a HP number, so I split the difference. I kept the attack stat 30 points higher, and seeing as Naviathan and Walrein have the same Defense and Special Attack stats, I saw no reason to deviate from Sealeo there. The Special Defense is also consistent with my reasoning, being 25 points lower than the seals.

Spheal: 70 / 40 / 50 / 55 / 50 / 25 (290)
Little Boat: 73 / 60 / 50 / 55 / 30 / 47 (315)

Although LB's HP stat eclipses Spheal's, I figured another 15 point reduction would be most consistent. Although Spheal's Attack is 20 points under Sealeo's, I decided to reduce Little Boat's by 30, as 60 is a nice number and also means that its attack stat isn't too extravagant compared to similar Pokemon. Once again, I have kept the Defense and Special Attack stats the same. 30 points would have been too sharp a drop in Special Attack, so I have instead decided to give Little Boat a better Special Defense stat, effectively balancing the larger drop in Attack. Lastly, I picked 47, as this makes Little Boat comparatively faster than its evolution when compared to the Walrein line.

43 HP / 60 Atk / 45 Def / 45 SpA / 45 SpD / 102 Spe -> 73 HP / 85 Atk / 75 Def / 70 SpA / 55 SpD / 72 Spe

I mostly based this spread somewhat off Surskit and Masquerain, as Masquerain is the only Pokemon who loses Swift Swim upon evolution. Even though Masquerain is only a 2 stage evolution line, I decided to work with it since its stats resemble a lot of other Pokemon upon evolution.

For reference:

Surskit: 40/30/32/50/52/65
Masquerain: 70/60/62/80/82/60

For the HP, I decided to keep the same drops for the middle stage evolution, I decided to drop attack and special attack by only 25 in order to keep Naviatahan's threatening appearance somewhat intact and I only dropped Defense by 15 to keep its defense at a reasonable level for a Steel type. I also decided to only do a drop of 10 in Special Defense to keep it at a reasonable level.

For the first stage to the middle stage, I decided that it would be best to keep the same basic formula except this time around, I dropped by the full 30 defense instead of only 15 because the first stage's type is Water instead of Water/Steel.

I decided the speeds somewhat differently. Masquerain has 5 less speed than Surskit, so because of this and the first stage's lack of a Steel type I decided to make the first stage have 5 more points in speed than Naviathan, giving me 102 Speed. For the middle stage, I decided to go somewhat down the route of Onix/Scyther to Steelix/Scizor and drop its speed by 40 upon the base evolution evolving into the middle stage evolution, however, I later thought this was to big of a drop since all 3 stages are likely to in some way involve transportation and only dropped the speed by 30 instead of 40

HP: 43 -> 73 -> 103 ; +30, +30
Atk: 60 -> 85 -> 110 ; +25, +25
Def: 45 -> 75 -> 90 ; +30, +15
SpA: 45 -> 70 -> 95 ; +25, +25
SpD: 45 -> 55 -> 65 ; +10, +10
Spe: 102 -> 72 -> 97 ; -30, +25
BST: 340 -> 430 -> 560 ; +90, +130

Final Submission:

65 HP / 65 Atk / 60 Def / 55 SpA / 40 SpD / 67 Spe -> 85 HP / 80 Atk / 80 Def / 70 SpA / 55 SpD / 77 Spe

To get Naviathan's NFE's base stats, I very roughly followed Lapras (Def/SpD switch) as it was another majestic ferry Pokemon. I also had a big jump from 2nd to Naviathan to resemble a starter Pokemon. I also smoothed out the stats excepting SpD to keep the stats to look like Naviathan's. I also kept the 1st stage a little passive to emulate a babyish Pokemon. I also made 1st stage relatively fast to emulate Swift Swim.
