i will whip this into a quick skeleton shape by tomorrow sometime but i wanted to pitch this out before i really dig in

the current (only) set for chatot is np. seems kinda bad, considering it has ~0 set-up opportunity unless you run encore and skimp out on coverage. choice specs bird with uturn seems alright, since it actually hits harder than you'd expect it to:

252 SpA Choice Specs Chatot Hyper Voice vs. 240 HP / 16 SpD Musharna: 178-211 (41.1 - 48.72%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Chatot Heat Wave vs. 252 HP / 80 SpD Eviolite Metang: 188-222 (58.02 - 68.51%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Chatot Hidden Power Grass vs. 104 HP / 152 SpD Alomomola: 260-308 (52.31 - 61.97%) -- 98.05% chance to 2HKO (HV does 50.3 - 59.35%)

i will probably test out the np set and a specs set. if you want to do any particular nitpicking or comments before i test it then go ahead. i was going to do a utility set (encore + uturn) before realizing liepard, jumpluff, and even emolga do it better than chatot does

Chatot @ Choice Specs
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Heat Wave
- Hidden Power Grass (any other HP worth running? idts but correct me otherwise)
- U-turn

Chatot @ Life Orb
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Encore
- Hyper Voice
- Heat Wave / Hidden Power Grass

any comments are welcome (brief reminder that every chatot set will be shit; these are just likely the best sets), otherwise this will be a skeleton by 6pm est or so tmrw

edit: why did i sign up for this chatot is garbage :(

[Overview]

- mediocre bird, no lasting power or bulk
- ~unique~ because it's specially based but really an inferior option for whatever you want to use it for
- particularly notable stat-wise is that it sits just under base 95s
- not a whole lot to say apart from it being really mediocre and generally not worth using if you have better things to do with your time

sets - one of np or specs, depending on testing

I used Chatot in a joke team with Slaking, Pikachu, Lumineon... and I tried Substitute + Nasty Plot. I have to say that Substitute was great to have, so maybe it can be slashed with Encore? I know Encore is a really good move and worth the first slash, but Sub is also nice for setting up.

I'll definitely give it a go, thanks! It's probably a more reliable option than Encore, for sure.

I know it's not much, but maybe Hidden Power Ground could be an option? It's probably more AC worthy since its only useful against Bastiodon and Probopass, but Chatot won't be able to OHKO Seismitoad, Relicanth, Carracosta, and Golem without Hidden Power Grass.

Hyper Voice actually does very similar damage to Garbodor and Ampharos - it only makes a significant difference on Bastiodon and Probopass, though I'll mention it in AC.

252 SpA Life Orb Chatot Hyper Voice vs. 208 HP / 0 SpD Ampharos: 165-196 (44.23 - 52.54%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Life Orb Chatot Hidden Power Ground vs. 208 HP / 0 SpD Ampharos: 174-205 (46.64 - 54.95%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Life Orb Chatot Hyper Voice vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Garbodor: 177-211 (48.62 - 57.96%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Life Orb Chatot Hidden Power Ground vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Garbodor: 187-221 (51.37 - 60.71%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

HP Water is worth considering imo. Smashes Golem and Rock-types like HP Grass, but also hits Probopass / Bastiodon SE. I think Normal / Water gets the best two-move coverage compared to Heat Wave / HP Grass so I'd try that during your tests.

Honestly, I've been testing out Chatot and it sucks. I think Specs is its best set, because it has room for U-turn (the only moves I usually find myself using are Hyper Voice, U-turn, and occasionally Substitute for NP). Nasty Plot was pretty bad in general, it has literally no set up opportunities unless the opponent tries to status it or uses a Ground move (sadly standard Eelektross breaks the sub with Giga Drain and does 38.43 - 45.57% with it). Substitute and Encore are both about the same on Chatot, though I think Substitute edges Encore out for the most part. If you try to set up on status, the sub blocks it but Encore doesn't. Against resisted weak moves, well Chatot might want to Encore them but it still takes a good chunk of damage either way, so I think Sub should get the first slash if NP even gets a set (which I really doubt it will). As for Specs, the order might as well be Hyper Voice / U-turn / Heat Wave / HP Water|Grass (not that either HP is a good move to lock yourself into ofc, though Water has better coverage and Grass gets important OHKOs).

Can we just ditch the NP set Zebraiken ?
