    Cherrim

(Using Sunshine Sprite, because Overcast one looks like poopy :x)

    [Overview]

    <p>Cherrim is
a very odd Pokemon. At first glance, it lookslike any other Grass-type Pokemon, just without moves such as Sleep Powder. However, Cherrim's ability, Flower Gift, is the reason why Cherrim can be so good. Under sunny weather, Cherrim's Attack and Special Defense are raised by 50%.This, along with its Grass-type STAB and decent coverage attacks, as well as a way to keep itself status free, makes Cherrim an excellent physical attacker in NU. However, it isn't all sunshine and daisies for Cherrim. With only base 85 Speed, it has a hard time keeping up with Pokemon such as Rapidash, Swellow, and Simisear. Also, with poor base 70 Defense, it is easy to attack it on the physical side. Nevertheless, Cherrim is a decent option for a sun team.</p>

    [SET]
    name: Physical Sunny Day
    move 1: Sunny Day
    move 2: Aromatherapy
    move 3: Seed Bomb
    move 4: Nature Power
    item: Heat Rock
    ability: Flower Gift
    nature: Adamant / Jolly
    evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

    [SET COMMENTS]

    <p>This set
makes full use of Cherrim ability, Flower Gift, which makes it a viable physical attacker in NU. Thanks to Heat Rock, once Cherrim sets up a Sunny Day, it is in effect for 8 turns unless the opponent changes it. Seed Bomb is a physical STAB, dealing massive damage in sunlight--OHKOing Cryogonal, for example. Aromatherapy makes Cherrim more difficult to take down, as it heals Cherrim and its teammates from status. However, the main thing that sets apart Cherrim from other Grass-type Pokemon in the tier is Nature Power. Nature Power becomes Earthquake on Pokemon Online and Wi-Fi Battles, giving Cherrim a way to hit Fire- and Steel-type Pokemon in the tier, such as Rapidash and Mawile.</p>

    [ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

<p>Adamant is the main nature of this set
, as it allows Cherrim to use it's boosted Attack in sun; however, a Jolly nature can also be used to speed tie with Pokemon such as Mesprit and Magmortar. Additionally, 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpD with an Adamant nature gives Cherrim 381 Special Defense in Sun, allowing it to take advantage of the Attack and Special Defense boosts. 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD with a Careful natue gives Cherrim maximum special bulk in the sun. 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Atk with an Imprish nature gives Cherrim maximum Defense, while still boosting Attack and Special Defense. In any case, if using a defensive EV Spread, utilizing moves such as Synthesis and Leech Seed allows Cherrim to stay on the field longer.</p>

    <p>As Cherrim still has problems
with Flying-type Pokemon, a Rock-type partner can help Cherrim beat these threats. Regirock is a prime example, as it can set up Stealth Rock, isn't OHKOed by Scarf Brivarly's Superpower, and can OHKO back with Stone Edge. Carracosta is another great example, as it can use Shell Smash to outspeed most of Cherrim's checks and OHKO them with Stone Edge. It also has great priority in Aqua Jet, meaning it can pick of weakened Fire-type Pokemon and KO them. Also, Probopass can trap Steel-type Pokemon via Magnet Pull, and gives them a hard time thanks toits attacks. Also, using Cherrim on a sun team while using other sun sweepers such as Exeggutor and Victreebel alongside Cherrim is also a good idea. Utilzing the sun Cherrim can set up, its teammates can hit hard and fast, making it tough for the opponent to react.</p>

    [SET]
    name: Special Sunny Day
    move 1: Sunny Day
move 2: Aromatherapy / Healing Wish
move 3: SolarBeam / Giga Drain
move 4: Hidden Power Fire / Hidden Power Rock
    item: Heat Rock
    ability: Flower Gift
    nature: Modest / Timid
    evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

    [SET COMMENTS]

    <p>While this set may
seem outclassed by Exeggutor, it has its own merits. It has the ability to use eitherAromatherapyor Healing Wish, both of which are useful. Aromatherapy can be used to cure status from the team, as well as itself, while Healing Wish can be used when Cherrim is done with it's job, meaning that a teammate can come in at full healthand potentially turn the course of a battle. SolarBeam can be used to abuse Sun, though when Sun isn't up, it won't be as effective. Therefore, Giga Drain is a viable alternative, as it is also useable outside of sun, and also provides useful healing. Lastly, the choice of Hidden Power is of personal perference. Hidden Power Fire hits Steel- and Grass-types, and is also stronger in sun. However, this leaves you at the mercy of Flash Fire Pokemon, such as Rapidash or Flareon. Therefore, Hidden Power Rock can be used, as it hits said Fire-type Pokemon, as well as Flying-types, such as the popular Swellow.</p>

    [ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

    <p>A Modest nature is used
, as it gives Cherrim the most use of its base 87 Special Attack; though Timid can also be used to speed tie with max speed Mesprit and Magmortar. This will not matter if using Hidden Power Rock or Hidden Power Fire, however, as such Hidden Powers force an imperfect Speed IV, so Modest should be used instead. An alternative spread of 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 SpD with aModest natureallows Cherrim to still hit hard, while giving it more Special Defense. 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD with a Calm nature gives it maximum special bulk in sun. Lastly, 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA with a Bold nature grants Cherrim maximum Defense. Like the other Defensive EV spreads, Synthesis and Leech Seed should be utilized to make the most of it's bulk.</p>

<p>As Cherrim still has promblems with Flying- and Steel-type Pokemon, a Rock-type partner can help Cherrim beat these threats. Regirock is a prime example, as it can set up Stealth Rock, and isn't OHKOed by Scarf Brivarly's Superpower, and it can OHKO back with Stone Edge. Carracosta is another great example, as it can use Shell Smash to outspeed most of Cherrim's checks and OHKO them with Stone Edge. It also has great priority in Aqua Jet, meaning it can pick of weakened Fire-type Pokemon and KO them.
Also, Probopass can trap Steel-type Pokemon via Magnet Pull, and it gives them a hard time thanks to its attacks. Also, using Cherrim on a sun team while using other sun sweepers such as Exeggutor and Victreebel alongside Cherrim is also a good idea. Utilzing the sun Cherrim can set up, its teammates can hit hard and fast, making it tough for the opponent to react</p>

    [Other Options]

<p>Cherrim, while it does have a shallow movepool,
can pull of a few other options. GrassWhistle can be used as a less accurate Sleep Powder, since Cherrim doesn't get Sleep Powder; however, the accuracy is too shaky to be relied on. A SubSeed set can be utilized, though this is done better by Meganium and Serperior. Safeguard is also a viable option,as it makes Cherrim and the rest of its team immune to status for 5 turns. Weather Ball hits harder in Sun than Hidden Power Fire, though it's a 50 base power Normal-type attack without sun. Hidden Power Ice can also be used to hit the rare Altaria harder than with Hidden PowerRock, and it can be used without lowering the Speed IV, which is useful.</p>

    [Checks and Counters]

    <p>Cherrim, despite
an awesome ability in Flower Gift, isn't invincible. Altaria is a great check, as it is 4x resistant to Grass, immune to the pseudo-Earthquake, and resistant to Hidden Power Fire. However, it must be wary of Hidden Power Rock and Ice. Pokemon with Flash Fire, such as Rapidash, Lampent, and Flareon, counter the Special set if it carries Hidden Power Fire or Hidden Power Ice, as these Pokemon are immune to Fire, and also resist Grass and Ice. Faster physical attackers, such as Swellow and Choice Scarf Briviary, can both outpace and OHKO Cherrim with Brave Bird, though neither will enjoy taking a Flower Gift boosted Seed Bomb.</p>

    Skelly (open)

    • Really good in sun, as it's horrid 60 Attack and decent 78 Special Defense become 115 Attack and 124 Special Defense.
    • Decent Support Movepool
    • Horrid Movepool, though it can support itself with it's own Sun
    [SET]

    name: Physical Sunny Day
    move 1: Sunny Day
    move 2: Aromatherapy
    move 3: Seed Bomb
    move 4: Nature Power
    item: Heat Rock
    ability: Flower Gift
    nature: Adamant / Jolly
    evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

    [SET COMMENTS]

    • Uses Flower Gift ability to boost it's Attack
    • Sunny Day + Heat Rock = 8 Turns of Sun
    • Aromatherapy gives team support as a cleric.
    • Seed Bomb is physical STAB, as it OHKOs Cryogonal
    • Nature Power Becomes Earthquake in Singles Battles and Wifi Battles iirc, which sets it apart from other Grass Types.
    [ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

    • Adamant to abuse it's new found power in Sun
    • Jolly can also be used to outspeed pokemon like Mesprit and Non-Scarfed Magmortar.
    • Additional EV Spreads- 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 SpD(Adamant) 381 Special Defense in Sun
    • 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD(Careful) Maximum Special Bulk in Sun
    • 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Atk(Imprish) Maximum Defense, while Attack and Special Defense are boosted.
    • The Defensive EV Spread can use Synthesis and Leech Seed to live longer.
    [SET]

    name: Sunny Day
    move 1: Sunny Day
move 2: Aromatherapy / Healing Wish
move 3: SolarBeam / Giga Drain
move 4: Hidden Power Fire / Hidden Power Rock
    item: Heat Rock
    ability: Flower Gift
    nature: Modest / Timid
    evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

    [SET COMMENTS]

    • Best way to use Cherrim
    • Sunny Day + Heat Rock = 8 Turns of Sun
    • Aromatherapy can be used to cure status from the team, as well as it's self
    • Healing Wish can be used when Cherrim becomes useless
    • SolarBeam to absuse Sun, though Giga Drain has the ability to be used in and out of sun, as well as giving it more survivability.
    • Hidden Power Fire hits Steels and Grass types, and is stronger in Sun
    • Hidden Power Rock hits Fire Types, Flying Types, and Bug Types.
    [ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

    • Modest to abuse it's new found power in Sun
    • Timid can also be used to outspeed pokemon like Mesprit and Non-Scarfed Magmortar, though it won't matter if you're not using HP Rock
    • Additional EV Spreads- 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 SpD(Modest) 381 Special Defense in Sun
    • 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD(Calm) Maximum Special Bulk in Sun
    • 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA(Bold) Maximum Defense,
    • The Defensive EV Spread can use Synthesis and Leech Seed to live longer.
    [Other Options]

    • GrassWhistle
    • Healing Wish
    • Leech Seed + Substitute
    • Safeguard
    • Weather Ball, hits harder in Sun than Hidden Power Fire, though it's a 50 Base Power Normal attack without sun.
    • Hidden Power Ice
    [Checks and Counters]

    • Altaria(Resist all options except Hidden Power Rock/Ice)
    • Rapidash, Lampent, and Flareon if using Hidden Power Fire/Weather Ball or Hidden Power Ice, as if you use Weather Ball/Hidden Power Fire, they get a power boost.

Doesn't Flower Gift raise its Attack, not its Special Attack? If it boosted Special Attack, Cherrim would be a lot better than it is. :p

Still, physical Cherrim sets itself apart from other Sunny Day inducers due to access to Nature Power and better Special Defense.

    [SET]
    name: Sunny Day
    move 1: Sunny Day
move 2: Aromatherapy / Healing Wish
    move 3: Seed Bomb
    move 4: Nature Power
    item: Heat Rock
    ability: Flower Gift
    nature: Adamant / Jolly
    evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

Shame it has such a bad offense movepool. Nature Power is obviously superior to Hidden Power Ground and destroys Flareon, who is otherwise a thorn in many Sun team's sides.

cake, Hp Rock>Hp Ground, it retains coverage on Fire types while hitting Flying and Bug Types. Only noteworthy thing Ground hits over Rock is Poison types, which isn't that great. Also, there is really no reason to run Energy Ball over Giga Drain any more.

No, it only raises Attack and Special Defense. For the entire team. (Go team Regirock!)

Then you clearly haven't tested Cherrim at all. The effect boosts the Attack stat, not the Special Attack stat. I've used Cherrim in a few battles and confirmed this, it wasn't bad in them either. Seed Bomb OHKO's Cryogonal too. :)

It also only affects Cherrim in singles, not its teammates. Otherwise, it'd be OU. :p

Whoops, guess i can fix it, but honestly, 60 Base Attack is bad, only getting to 90 with Flower Gift, so idk about the physical set

I don't know how you count, but in sun, Cherrim has the Attack stat of that of a base 115 Pokémon (360 max Cherrim, 361 max base 115 Pokémon).

Go try out a mixed Growth set. Just for funsies. :)

    Ok, mixed Growth fails, hard

I tried running Sunny Day and Growth on the same set meant i had to drop Aromatherapy, and it's useful to prevent status, so things such as Weezing would just Toxic me, and i couldn't use Aromatherapy to heal myself.

Its a OO Mention, not worthy of it's own set

And with that, this is ready for QC

Why are you mentioning EV spreads that boost Special Attack for the physical attacker set?

Maybe I'm being slightly pedantic, but what does the special set have over Meganium? Whilst it has better SpD, you're not running a bulky set anyways. Meanwhile, Meganium has much better physical bulk, almost as good speed and access to Leaf Guard, whilst having roughly the same specially offensive power.

The only reason to use Cherrim in the sun is because of Flower Gift... so you list a special set first? Even when it gets (psudo-)Earthquake? Really? Make that the first set, there are a shitton of better Special Attacking sun-abusing Pokemon.

Like the other Defensive EV spreads, Synthesis and Leech Seed should be utilized to make Cherrim make the most of it's bulk.</p>

    [Other Options]

<p>Cherrim, while it does have a shallow movepool, can pull of a few other options. does have a few options it can pull off. GrassWhistle can be used as a less accurate Sleep Powder, since Cherrim doesn't get Sleep Powder,<remove comma>;<semicolon> however,<comma> the accuracy is to too shaky to be relied on. A SubSeed set can be utilized, though this is done better by Meganium and Serperior. Safeguard is also a viable option, making as it makes Cherrim and the rest of its team immune to status for 5 turns.<period>,<remove comma> making it easier to attack the opponent. Weather Ball hits harder in Sun than Hidden Power Fire, though it's a 50 base power Normal-type attack without sun. Hidden Power Ice can also be used to hit the rare Altaria harder than with Hidden Power Ice Rock, and it can be used without lowering the Speed IV, which is useful.</p>

    [Checks and Counters]

<p>Cherrim, despite and an awesome ability in Flower Gift, isn't invincible. Altaria is a great check, as it is four times 4x immune to Grass, immune to the psudo-Earthquake, and resistant to Hidden Power Fire. However, it must be wary of Hidden Power Rock and Ice. Pokemon with Flash Fire,<comma> such as Rapidash, Lampent, and Flareon,<comma> if using Hidden Power Fire or Hidden Power Ice counter the Special Set set if it carries Hidden Power Fire or Hidden Power Ice, as these Pokemon are immune to Fire, and also resist Grass and Ice.<period>,<remove comma> as if Cherrim uses Hidden Power Fire, they get a power boost, while also being resistant to Hidden Power Ice. Faster Physical attackers,<comma> such as Swellow and Choice Scarf Briviary,<comma> can both outpace and OHKO Cherrim with Brave Bird, though neither will like enjoy taking a Flower Gift boosted Seed Bomb.</p>

You need to discuss potential teammates for your Additional Comments section. Do so before asking for the second check.

tennisedit: approving the teammates you have, you (or gp) should add a mention that you should use cherrim on a sun team and use other sun sweepers alongside it to hit opponents hard and fast etc
