Overview
########

Although Chikorita isn't generally considered a great Pokemon, it does have a small niche as the bulkiest Grass-type with access to Aromatherapy, giving it an advantage over other Grass-types fighting for a team slot. 65 base defenses mean it can take a surprising amount of hits, even from super effective moves. As a cleric, Chikorita faces stiff competition from Chinchou, Spritzee, and Lickitung, which are generally considered more useful, but Chikorita's crucial resistances to Ground and Water allow it to check Drilbur, Chinchou, Tirtouga, Corphish, and Carvanha. Although it's bulky, Chikorita lacks any sort of offensive presence, as its movepool is shallow and its attacking stats are low.

name: Aromatherapy

move 3: Giga Drain
move 4: Hidden Power Fire / Hidden Power Fighting
ability: Overgrow
item: Eviolite
evs: 156 HP / 160 Def / 48 SpA / 80 SpD
nature: Bold

Moves
========

Because being a bulky cleric is Chikorita's main niche, Aromatherapy is the obvious first choice. Synthesis gives Chikorita a mostly reliable form of recovery. Giga Drain is the STAB move of choice, allowing Chikorita to threaten Water-, Rock-, and Ground-types and giving it a bit of extra recovery. The last move is mostly filler. Using Hidden Power Fire means that Chikorita isn't completely deadweight against opposing Grass- and Steel-types such as Ferroseed, Foongus, and Pawniard. Hidden Power Fighting is another option, still hitting Steel-types and also OHKOing Choice Scarf Pawniard after Stealth Rock. Unfortunately, Hidden Power is quite weak, but Chikorita doesn't get too many other options.

Set Details
========

The defensive EVs give Chikorita 16 and 14 in Defense and Special Defense respectively, which become 24 and 21 after Eviolite is taken into account, allowing it to avoid the 2HKO from bulky Chinchou's Ice Beam as well as Drilbur's and Timburr's Poison Jab. Chikorita can also avoid the OHKO from powerful moves such as Amaura's Tri Attack, Fletchling's Acrobatics, and +2 Tirtouga's Stone Edge. Chikorita is bulky enough to serve as a strong physical wall to anything that does not have a super effective STAB move or that can't set up on it. Chikorita's HP stat hits 23, meaning it takes 1 less damage from Stealth Rock than if it were invested fully. 48 Special Attack EVs are necessary to 2HKO Ferroseed and Choice Scarf Pawniard with Hidden Power Fire. They also allow Chikorita to OHKO Choice Scarf Pawniard with Hidden Power Fighting.

Usage Tips
========

Chikorita works as a wall that can switch into the Water-, Rock-, and Ground-types that it can easily put a stop to throughout the match, using Aromatherapy or Synthesis when needed.

Team Options
========

Pokemon that hate status and are weak to Water-, Ground-, and Rock-types appreciate Chikorita as a partner. Pawniard is an example of a Pokemon that hates being burned and needs a Pokemon to switch into Ground-type moves. Rock-types can switch into Flying- and Fire- types for Chikorita and need something to switch into Water- and Ground-types. As with most bulky Grass-type Pokemon, Chikorita works well in a Fire / Water / Grass core, due to the members' good defensive type synergy. Ponyta hates Toxic and paralysis, while bulky Tirtouga hates Toxic and burns, so they make good partners to Chikorita.

Other Options
########

Chikorita has access to both Reflect and Light Screen, but it is often outclassed by other dual screens users. Ancient Power gives Chikorita a move to hit Fire-types with, but the move's 60 Base Power isn't going to do much damage to anything besides Larvesta. Toxic is an option to wear down bulky Pokemon Chikorita can't hurt much, such as Porygon and Ponyta. Leaf Storm is an option over Giga Drain to give Chikorita a much more powerful STAB option. Counter is an interesting move to hit physical attackers with, considering Chikorita can survive most physical hits. Chikorita's Attack is the same as its Special Attack, so Bullet Seed could be used to break Substitutes, but the added recovery from Giga Drain is almost always better.

Checks & Counters
########

**Grass-types**: Chikorita can't do masses of damage to most Grass-types, but Grass / Poison Pokemon such as Foongus and Bellsprout can easily switch in and hit Chikorita with a super effective STAB move, and Chikorita's Hidden Power Fire won't do too much in return.

**Fire-types**: Chikorita can't do much damage to Fire-types, so they can easily force it out.

**Flying-types**: Chikorita is easily forced out by Flying-types and the threat of their STAB moves.

**Poison-types**: Poison-types completely wall Chikorita and can hit it hard with their STAB moves.

**Setup Sweepers**: Setup sweepers such as Swords Dance Fletchling, Dragon Dance Scraggy, Bulk Up Timburr, and Calm Mind Spritzee can easily take advantage of Chikorita's lack of offensive presence to get some boosts.

**U-turn**: Pokemon with U-turn cause a large amount of trouble for Chikorita: it either has to stay in and take the super effective hit, or switch out and lose momentum.

Hidden Power Fight might be worth a look.

0 SpA Chikorita Hidden Power Fighting vs. 0 HP / 36 Def Pawniard: 20 - 24 (95.2% - 114.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

44 SpA Chikorita Hidden Power Fighting vs. 0 HP / 36 Def Pawniard: 20 - 28 (95.2% - 133.3%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO

And just where is your cute picture?!

Yo, don't underestimate Chikorita, it's actually really cool. As far as I know, it's the only Grass-type Pokemon with access to Dual Screens, which I had some significant success with in BW (I haven't tested it in XY). Likewise, it has access to counter, which in tandem with Synthesis and its immense bulk, is a really solid option. Helps it tank Knock Offs and OHKO things like Pawniard. It's a really cool option as well.

yeah counter should be in OO since with its recovery taking damage and dealing around 80% of the opponents health away in the process isn't too bad.

Snivy, turtwig and exeggcute all get access to dual screens, and personally I'd rather use snivy who has 17 speed and taunt iirc. I'll add counter to OO but I don't think screens warrants anything other than an OO mention

Checks and Counters:
Under set-up sweepers, remove Misdreavus and Dwebble because they're not very relevant, and replace them with Fletchling and Calm Mind Spritzee or something like that.
Add Poison-types for the same reason as Fire/Flying-types.

Great job

I realize that I'm a bit late but I have a few things I'd like to suggest before this goes to GP.

  • Chikorita is honestly not a very conventional Pokemon to use for its presented purpose here when clerics like Spritzee and Lickitung exist, so the advantages it has over those two should be highlighted. The analysis should suggest Chikorita to players who want a status cleric and something that can also keep Drilbur and Chinchou at bay (in most cases that is; Poison Jab Drilbur and Ice Beam Chinchou aren't totally nonexistent but they're missing something important if they run these), but only want to use one teamslot to do both. Also, too often are abilities that don't have an immediate benefit considered useless or just not very good; you might mention that Overgrow boosts Chikorita's Giga Drain further than STAB when it's taken to low health, which in turn restores more health than the move usually would, right when it needs to. You don't have to exaggerate what it does, but just a small mention will do. These ideas would be good for adding more content to the currently thin Overview.
  • Pure Grass-types are becoming a more sought-after commodity in the post-Misdreavus era of XY Little Cup. As such, Chikorita's advantages over other pure Grass-types like Shroomish should be pointed out so that newer players reading the analysis can know right away why they might use Chikorita over the others. Aromatherapy is pretty important.
  • Common users of U-turn should be added to the Checks & Counters segment, not simply because Chikorita is weak to the move, but also because simply carrying a pure Grass-type on a team brings momentum liabilities due to the threat of it. Not only do they get a super effective hit against Chikorita, but they also get switch advantage if Chikorita opts to flee to avoid it; this can be problematic for not only Chikorita, but its whole team. Even though U-turn users such as Fletchling and Larvesta are already covered by other segments of Checks & Counters, I feel that U-turn itself deserves an important mention.

If you can give these things mentions, I've looked over what you have so far and I say it's good to go.

changes made frenzyplant , was unsure about Bulky Chinchou because that's teh name of a current on-site set. Also the sentence with Ancient Power sounded a bit clunky as you made Ancient Power appear twice really close and it just sounded odd to me - I hope my alternative is okay

that was really a few too many unnecessary changes up there, and I speak as a guy who used to do that all the time (and may still for all I know). There was nothing wrong with the first sentence in the overview, and calling synthesis mostly reliable is perfectly accurate, considering that Hippoptas and Snover exist and it's only got 8 uses.

Comments:
Moved the HP weak sentence to before you even talk about HP. Who cares if you have no other options, that's not really something you need to say either way. And by the way, filler? Come on, not being Ferroseed's bitch or stopping Scarf Pawn are great things for a Grass-type and a wall. If it was really filler, just slap on Toxic and call it a day.

Who cares what stats it has specifically? especially when you explain the hits it can take, that's much more interesting. Any noob to LC will not know the difference anyhow, though it could be kind of nice for more experienced players (but they could just go check anyhow, especially once they see the hits it can take.)

I don't think a stat itself can be weak.

The grass-type counters section needs more fleshing out. What about every other damn grass-type?

Chikorita works as a wall that can switch into the Water-, Rock-, and Ground-types that it can easily put a stop to throughout the match, and using Aromatherapy or Synthesis when needed.

Team Options
========

Toxic is an option tofor wearing down bulky Pokemon Chikorita can't hurt much, such as Porygon and Ponyta. Leaf Storm is an option over Giga Drain tohat gives Chikorita a much more powerful STAB option. Counter is an interesting move to hit physical attackers with, considering Chikorita can survive most physical hits and retaliate.

**U-turn**: Pokemon with U-turn cause a large amount of trouble for Chikorita. Chikor, since ita either has to stay in and take the super effective hit, or switch out and lose momentum.

Overview
########

Although Chikorita isn't generally considered a great Pokemon, it does have the small niche of being the bulkiest Grass-type with access to Aromatherapy, giving it a significant advantage over other Grass-types fighting for a team slot. 65 base defenses mean it can take a surprising amount of hits, even from super effective moves. As a cleric, Chikorita faces stiff competition from Chinchou, Spritzee, and Lickitung, which are generally considered more useful, but Chikorita's crucial resistances to Ground- and Water-types allow it to check Drilbur, Chinchou, Tirtouga, Corphish, and Carvanha. Although it's bulky, Chikorita lacks any sort of offensive presence, as its movepool is shallow and its attacking stats are weak.

evs: 156 HP / 160 Def / 48 SpA / 80 SpD
nature: Bold

Moves
========

Using Hidden Power Fire means that Chikorita isn't completely dead weight against opposing Grass- and Steel-types such as Ferroseed, Foongus, and Pawniard. Hidden Power Fighting is another option, still hitting Steel-types and OHKOing Choice Scarf Pawniard after Stealth Rock. Unfortunately, Hidden Power is quite weak, but Chikorita doesn't get too many other options.

Set Details
========

The defensive EVs give Chikorita 16 and 14 in Defense and Special Defense respectively, which become 24 and 21 after Eviolite is taken into account, allowing it to avoid the 2HKO from bulky Chinchou's Ice Beam and Poison Jabs from Drilbur and Timburr.

Well at least give some examples of dual screeners that outclass Chikorita in the analysis, particularly Snivy.
