[SET COMMENTS]

If you are looking for a supporter in NU, Chimecho won't disappoint you. With its large movepool it can help your team in several ways. Knock Off is a great move, especially on sturdy Pokémon, which Chimecho can be if you play him correctly. It not only gets rid of your opponent's item, it also increases its survivability if you Knock Off the opponent's Choice Band or Choice Specs. Psychic is used so Chimecho is not shut down by Taunt. With Chimecho's decent Special Attack, it will also damage your opponent quite a bit. Wish allows Chimecho to support the team even more, granting the other Pokémon on the team a way to recover from the damage taken during the battle.

For the last move slot, there are many options to choose from. Thunder Wave deals with faster Pokémon, allowing the team's other Pokemon to sweep more easily. Hypnosis helps against slower foes, but due to its decreased accuracy in Platinum, there is a high chance that it will miss. If your team has problems with status, Heal Bell is the right choice. Chimecho is also one of the few Pokémon capable of learning it. With Reflect, Chimecho is able to assist your team to a greater extent. In addition, it can protect Chimecho from Pursuit if it decides to switch out.

Recover can be used in the last slot in order to give Chimecho a reliable form of healing. Recover gives Chimeco more immediate durability but without Wish, it won't be able to aid the team by sharing recovery.

move 3: Shadow Ball / Signal Beam
move 4: Recover / Hidden Power Fighting / Hidden Power Ground
item: Leftovers
evs: 252 HP / 116 Def / 80 SpA / 60 SpD
ability: Levitate
nature: Modest
[SET COMMENTS]

With its useful Ground immunity and Fighting resistance, Chimecho can perform well as a Calm Mind user. After switching on something that can't hurt it (for example Choice Banded Earthquakes), Chimecho can set up and attempt a sweep. STAB Psychic is Chimecho's main sweeping tool with two equally useful move combinations available to fill the remaining moveslots. Hidden Power Fighting and Shadow Ball offer excellent type coverage. The former takes out most Steels and Dark-types, and the latter covers other Psychic-types, while also providing a more powerful option against Ghost-types.

Signal Beam can be used as a replacement to Shadow Ball, as it will take down bulky Grass-types such as Meganium much more quickly. Instead of Hidden Power Fighting, because Dark-types are already covered by Signal Beam, Hidden Power Ground or Hidden Power Fire are viable options. Hidden Power Ground beats Steel and Rock-types while also hitting Electric-types for super effective damage. With Hidden Power Fire, Chimecho loses the ability to hit Rock-types for super effective damage, but Bug and Ice-types are no longer a problem for it. It also hits Shedinja, an ability that Hidden Power Ground lacks.

name: Trick
move 1: Trick
move 2: Psychic
move 3: Hidden Power Fighting / Hidden Power Ground / Hidden Power Fire
move 4: Shadow Ball / Signal Beam
item: Choice Scarf
evs: 56 HP / 252 SpA / 200 Spe
ability: Levitate
nature: Modest
[SET COMMENTS]

The addition of Trick is a nice addition to Chimecho, since it can use it well to an extent. Attempt a sweep and, when you think it's the right time, Trick Choice Scarf onto something that will get no use of it. Again, Chimecho has various move options in the last two slots, so choose the ones that will help your team the most.

200 Speed EVs allow Chimecho to outspeed neutral natured Purugly and those Pokémon with 95 base speed and a boosting nature. If Choice Specs is preferred to Choice Scarf, change your nature and EVs to Timid and 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe. With a Timid nature and those EVs, Chimecho outspeeds neutral-natured Pokémon with 105 base speed.

[Other Options]

Due to Chimecho's excellent movepool, it has many other options to offer. Light Screen is an alternative to Reflect should your team require some help sponging special attacks. Trick Room is an option if your team benefits from it, and thanks to Chimecho's several methods of crippling the opponent, Chimecho has little trouble setting it up. Toxic allows Chimecho to wear down Pokémon it would have problems with. Grass Knot and Energy Ball can be used to hit Ground and Water-types much harder. Healing Wish is another option, if you opt for sacrificing Chimecho to heal another team member.

[EVs]

For the more defensive-minded sets, it is important to max out HP, so Chimecho can increase its survivability. In order to be able to take hits from both of the spectrum, EVs are placed into both Defense and Special Defense. Some EVs should also be invested in Special Attack, allowing Chimecho to hit decently hard. Calm is the preferred nature here.

For the Trick set, it is important to outspeed as many Pokémon as possible. Because a Timid nature won't outspeed any particular Pokémon, Modest is the favored nature. The set also utilizes maximum Special Attack, because dealing damage is a priority on this set. The remainder of the EVs can be dumped into HP.

[Opinion]

A Fighting resistance and Ground immunity are useful to have on any team, and while Chimecho's defenses might not be spectacular, they are more than acceptable for NU play. It has a support movepool that Cresselia would kill for, but this alone is not enough to propel it higher up the tier system. Due to Chimecho's ability to cripple the opponent and its access to an instant recovery move, something many NU walls lack, it performs well in NU as a support Pokemon.

[Counters]

Being immune to Psychic and Hypnosis makes Insomnia Honchkrow an excellent counter to Chimecho. Pursuit takes Chimecho out as it flees. Insomnia Banette is also a decent counter, although he can't take too many hits from Psychic. Hypno also works well, but will require Shadow Ball, Nasty Plot or Toxic to avoid a stall war.

Anything else attempting to counter Chimecho will have to be wary of Hypnosis. If they can avoid being put to sleep, Skuntank, Grumpig and Sableye can defeat it with little trouble.
