Chimecho (Update) QC: [3/3] GP: [2/2]

Just hear those sleigh bells jinglin' (Get it? Cause it's December and Chimecho's a bell/chime thing)

[Overview]
 • Outclassed as a supporter in almost everywhere by Musharna and outclassed offensively by both Jynx and Gardevoir
 • Barely passable bulk but has a sizable support movepool, including Healing Wish and Taunt which are the only things separate it from other bulky supporters
 • Levitate gives it a few opportunities to switch in

[SET]
name: Support
move 1: Healing Wish
move 2: Yawn
move 3: Psychic
move 4: Taunt
item: Focus Sash
ability: Levitate
nature: Timid
evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spd

[SET COMMENTS]
 • Healing Wish can bring in and heal a teammate and keep momentum on your side at the cost of sacrificing Chimecho.
 • Yawn either forces the opponent out or puts it to sleep giving Chimecho a chance to use Healing Wish to bring something in and heal it
 • Psychic is used so that Chimecho is not Taunt bait and can hurt quite a bit even uninvested
 • Taunt prevents the opponent from setting up on Chimecho and the sweeper it brings in with Healing Wish. Taunt also helps to prevent entry hazards and status.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
 • Both Toxic and Thunder Wave are options over Healing Wish, but are generally inferior because many other Pokemon can use the same set much more effectively.
 • Good offensive partners include anything that deal with with Dark- and Steel-types that Chimecho can't touch
 • Sawk, Gurdurr, and Primepe all can take care of the Steel- and Dark-types that bother Chimecho while also benefiting from Healing Wish and Yawn.
 • Sweepers in general such as Carracosta, Zangoose, and Jynx love Healing Wish which can give them a second attempt at sweeping or cleaning up.
 • Focus Sash helps ensure that Chimecho can use at least a Healing Wish or Yawn

[Other Options]
 • Has quite of few other options but these options are usually better utilized by something else
 • Access to Wish, Recover, and Heal Bell let's Chimecho become a cleric, but Musharna and Lickilicky both act as much better clerics
 • Can set up Reflect and Light Screen, but this is done better by Serpeior and Gardevoir which are both much faster
 • Although Trick Room is a generally a poor strategy in NU, can set up Trick Room and bring a healthy in with healing Wish
 • Chimecho has a pretty wide special movepool including Charge Beam, Shadow Ball, and Energy Ball which it can use with Calm Mind, but generally Musharna and Duosion make better users of Calm Mind due to their bulk
 • Hypnosis is an option over Yawn for instant sleep but the low accuracy makes it unreliable in comparison.

[Checks and Counters]
 • Anything faster than Chimecho that carries Taunt shuts down Chimecho entirely.
 • Both Serperior and Samurott can Taunt and set up or just attack it.
 • Any Dark type handles Chimecho pretty well especially if they have access to Taunt as well.
 • Skuntank can Pursuit trap Chimecho after using Taunt
Kangaskhan takes care of Chimecho with Fake Out and Double-Edge

[Overview]

Chimecho is one of the many Pokemon in NU that is unfortunately outclassed in almost every way by more prominent threats in the tier. It has a huge support movepool, including Heal Bell, Wish, and Recover, which makes it seem like the ideal cleric, but it is horribly outclassed by Musharna and Lickilicky, both of which sport much better bulk. Chimecho's only niche is its access to Healing Wish, Yawn, and Taunt. These three moves allow Chimecho to effectively support its offensive teammates by giving them a second chance to sweep or clean up. However, Chimecho only fits on certain teams, and outside its access to Healing Wish, it is mostly outclassed as a supporter.

[SET]

move 1: Healing Wish
move 2: Yawn
move 3: Psychic
move 4: Taunt
item: Focus Sash
nature: Timid
evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

This set aims to force your opponent out, prevent entry hazards, keep opponents from setting up, and heal a teammate with Healing Wish. Healing Wish is the only reason to use Chimecho; at the cost of sacrificing itself, Chimecho fully heals a teammate, keeping the momentum on your side of the field. Yawn either forces the opponent out or puts it to sleep, giving Chimecho a chance to bring something in with Healing Wish. Psychic keeps Chimecho from being Taunt bait and can hurt quite a bit even uninvested. Taunt keeps opponents from setting up on Chimecho and also prevents entry hazards.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Focus Sash helps ensure that Chimecho can use at least one Healing Wish or Yawn. Either Toxic or Thunder Wave can be used over Taunt, but Taunt generally has more utility than both of them. Chimecho's typing, speed, and ability along with Taunt help it take on most of the popular hazard setters in NU. Levitate gives Chimecho immunity to the common Ground-type attacks that Stealth Rock setters, such as Golem and Piloswine, tend to carry. Chimecho's STAB Psychic hurts Roselia and Garbodor—two of the most popular Spikers—which can't touch Chimecho after being Taunted.

Good offensive partners for Chimecho include anything that can deal with the Dark- and Steel-types that Chimecho can't touch. Sawk and Primeape both can handle the Dark- and Steel-types that bother Chimecho and also benefit from Healing Wish and Yawn support. Sweepers in general, such as Carracosta, Samurott, and Charizard, love Healing Wish support, which can give them a second chance at sweeping or cleaning up.

[Other Options]

Chimecho has quite a few other options to choose from, but these "options" are usually better utilized by something else. Access to Wish, Recover, and Heal Bell allows Chimecho to become a cleric; however, both Musharna and Lickilicky preform this role much better. Chimecho can also set up Reflect and Light Screen, but both Gardevoir and Serperior outclass it in this role, as they are both much faster. Although Trick Room is generally a poor strategy in NU, Chimecho can set up Trick Room and use Healing Wish next turn, bringing in a Trick Room sweeper for free and giving it maximum turns under Trick Room. Chimecho also has a wide special movepool including Charge Beam, Energy Ball, and Shadow Ball, which it can use with Calm Mind, but generally Musharna and Duosion make better users of Calm Mind due to their superior bulk. Hypnosis is an option over Yawn for instant sleep, but its low accuracy makes it unreliable.

[Checks and Counters]

Anything faster than Chimecho that carries Taunt shuts it down entirely. Both Serperior and Samurott can use Taunt against and set up on Chimecho or just attack it. Any Dark-type handles Chimecho pretty well, especially if it has access to Taunt. Skuntank can Taunt Chimecho then Pursuit trap it. Most strong STAB attacks can take out Chimecho with ease because of its poor bulk. Kangaskhan takes care of Chimecho with Fake Out and Double-Edge. Generally, the best way to handle Chimecho is to keep it from using Healing Wish.

i'd probably use something like this:

Chimecho (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Healing Wish
- Yawn
- Psychic
- Taunt

healing wish + yawn gives it a little niche since it can force the opponent out and give a mon on your team a chance to set up and sweep while healing it with healing wish. musharna is better suited for the role of fighting type counter + heal bell and it's wishes are too tiny to be useful

I think Taunt and Yawn are redundant on the same set since the usual outcome of both of those moves is forcing switches. Maybe Thunder Wave > Yawn? This way the Healing Wish'ed opponent still has an easier time setting up and Chimecho is still making the best use with of all of it's moveslots.

I wouldn't say that Taunt and Yawn are redundant when they do two different things. Yawn, as FLCL said, WILL either force your opponent out or put it asleep in the following turn and do what he mentionned. Taunt, in the other hand, will prevent the opponent's Pokemon to set up infront of Chimecho or alongside your sweeper. Taunt also helps to prevent entry hazards and any potential status. Pair that with Levitate and the fact that most Stealth Rock users have a Ground-typing, and Chimecho looks like a good way (I know Chimecho is shit, but at least...) to prevent hazards. Its STAB is also great against two of the popular spikers, Garbodor and Roselia, which can't really touch Chimecho when Taunt'd.

tldr Taunt and Yawn aren't redundant.

@below oops, but still my post explain what Taunt can do :^)

I was using Taunt in the context of HP, where he was saying Taunt is used for shutting down Walls, which does only force switches. At least change your description of Taunt HispanicPanic to accurately match Soulgazer's description

theres no point keeping chimecho alive. walling sets are done better by other mons so its better to abuse its team support options

I'd make the item Focus Sash which allows you to take a hit from anything and get off a Yawn / Healing Wish.

[Overview]
Outclassed as a supporter in almost everywhere by both Gardevoir and Musharna and outclassed offensively by both Duosion and Musharna
 • *Outclassed in support by Mushy and outclassed in offense by Jynx / Gardy.
 • Delete the point about decent SpA, it's hardly relevant because it never goes offensive and hardly ever even uses Psychic.
 • Combine the second and fourth points since they both cover its movepool / supporting options. It should pretty much say "Barely passable bulk but has a sizable support movepool, including Healing Wish and Taunt which are the only things separate it from other bulky supporters
[SET]
 • Add spaces after each colon so it looks like "name: Support" rather than "name:Support."
[SET COMMENTS]
 • Move the Focus Sash mention to AC.
[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
 • I'd remove the mention of walls as partners since they kind of just lose momentum and Chimecho can't even support them with Heal Bell cos it's not on the set. Chimecho shouldn't be used in general but if it is I'd rather use offensive mons as partners.
[Other Options]
 • Add: CM, Recover, wide special movepool, Heal Bell, Wish. Chimecho isn't good but it is pretty versatile so it does have a lot of other options (although they're all pretty bad / outclassed).
[Checks and Counters]
Both Serperior and Samurott can Taunt and set up on Chimecho wih Calm Mind and Swords Dance respectively.
 • No one uses Taunt + SD Samurott so I'd just say "...Taunt and either set up or just attack it."
 • Timid Chimecho actually outspeeds standard Mandibuzz so I'd delete that part. It's okay to mention Mandi but don't say it outspeeds.
 • Remove Liepard since it doesn't actually use Taunt. I'd replace it with something like Kanga because Fake Out + Double-Edge owns it.
Implement pls HispanicPanic and I'll check again later.

This set aims to force your opponent out ,and prevent entry hazard or the opponent to set up, and heal a teammate with Healing Wish.
Chimecho can set up use at least a Healing Wish or Yawn.
Usually 'set up' is used when the move is a boosting one, ex: Swords Dance, or when it is entry hazards, ex: Spikes.

QC wise you did really well! There's just some obvious grammar errors in your texts that could be fixed easily, try your best to fix some of those and I will stamp :)

It feels weird to post this when I probably gave multiple headaches to the gp team...

Wyvern56 I changed everything but the sentence talking about Levitate giving Chimecho immunity to ground-type attacks that rock setters tend to carry. Stealth Rock is indeed a Rock-type move, but most of the SR setters in NU tend to carry a Ground-type attack as coverage or STAB. Golem, Piloswine, and sometimes Metang carry Earthquake. Probopass usually caries Earth Power, and the list goes on.
