[Overview]

Although Combusken is a Pokemon that would usually get brushed off due to its mediocre stats, it's ability, Speed Boost, and access to Swords Dance allow it to function as a viable sweeper in the NU metagame. Speed Boost increases its Speed at the end of every turn, compensating for Combusken's low base Speed. Combined with Swords Dance and two great STAB types in Fire and Fighting, Combusken can open up opportunities to sweep its opponents. However, Combusken faces competition in its role as a Fire / Fighting sweeper; Magmortar and Emboar are more versatile and stronger than Combusken. As it is easily walled, it works best as a late-game sweeper, and requires quite a bit of team support. While Combusken has its counters, if supported and played correctly, it can quickly sweep the opponent's team.

name: Swords Dance
move 1: Swords Dance
move 2: Flare Blitz
move 3: Sky Uppercut
move 4: Protect / Shadow Claw
item: Life Orb
ability: Speed Boost
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

This one of Combusken's best sets. Don't overlook it because of its stats, as Swords Dance and Speed Boost make Combusken quite threatening. Swords Dance allows it to boost its decent Attack, and along with Life Orb, it can put a huge dent in the opposing Pokemon. Flare Blitz is Combusken's primary STAB move due to its high Base Power and perfect accuracy; a 10% chance of burning the opponent can come in handy, too. Though Flare Blitz has large amounts of recoil, it doesn't really matter when Life Orb also adds on to the recoil damage and Combusken's bulk is nothing to write home about in the first place. Sky Uppercut, while not as powerful or accurate as Flare Blitz, gains a STAB boost too, and allows Combusken to destroy opposing Pokemon weak to it. Sky Uppercut also lets Combusken damage opponents with the Flash Fire ability, such as Flareon. Protect guarantees that Combusken will get a Speed Boost, which enables it to sweep. Alternatively, Shadow Claw is Combusken's best option against bulky Ghost- and Psychic-types, namely Misdreavus, Mesprit, and Duosion.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Life Orb allows Combusken to deal greater damage, and is the obvious choice for a Pokemon with such good offensive stats and so little bulk. The given EVs enable Combusken to outspeed Modest +2 Gorebyss and Adamant Choice Scarf Sawk after two Speed Boosts. An Adamant nature is used as firstly, Speed Boost raises Combusken's Speed to insane levels anyway, and secondly, the power boost is much needed.

Like any other offensive Pokemon, Combusken requires lots of entry hazard support to KO opposing Pokemon with ease. Wynaut is a useful teammate to have, as it can remove Choice Scarf users with either Counter or Mirror Coat, or Encore walls into harmless support moves, giving Combusken an opportunity to set up Swords Dance. Grass-types such as Exeggutor are helpful to combat Water-types; Exeggutor's powerful Leaf Storm dents virtually everything in the tier. Leafeon in particular makes a decent teammate to Combusken, as it is able to counter Pokemon such as Floatzel, who would otherwise switch in on Combusken, force it out with the threat of a super effective Aqua Jet, and proceed to sweep. Choice Scarf Rotom-S outspeeds even +1 Combusken; as such, Regirock makes a good teammate as it can tank Air Slash. It can also take on threats such as Altaria, who resists both of Combusken's STAB moves.

[Other Options]

Combusken could use Rock Slide over Shadow Claw to hit Flying types, such as Altaria, super effectively, but Shadow Claw gives it coverage against Pokemon such as Duosion and Musharna, who would otherwise severely dent Combusken's health. Substitute can be used to gain more Speed Boosts and avoid status. Toxic can also be used to deal with Pokemon such as Quagsire.

[Checks and Counters]

Bulky Water-types are good counters to Combusken, as they can tank Combusken's attacks and easily KO it; Quagsire deserves a special mention as it has Unaware to ignore Combusken's Swords Dance boosts. Eviolite Frillish is also notable for resisting both of Combusken's STAB moves. Samurott can OHKO Combusken with a priority Aqua Jet, bypassing Combusken's Speed Boosts. Altaria is also a good counter to Combusken, as it resists both of Combusken's STAB moves. Lampent gains a Flash Fire boost if it switches into Flare Blitz and is immune to Sky Uppercut. Considering Combusken's frailty, any Pokemon that can take a boosted attack and hit back will stop Combusken in its tracks.

Hello, just an unofficial GP check.

[Overview]

Combusken receives Speed Boost as its ability, which increases its speed at the end of every turn, thus compensating for its low Speed stat. While Combusken has seemingly low stats, with a few Swords Dances, Speed Boost, with Life Orb and STAB with a few Swords Dance and Speed Boost increases, coupled with Life Orb and STAB, allow Combusken an opportunity to sweep its opponents. Combusken with has a base 85 Attack Stat works wonders when boosted. While Combusken has its counters, if played right, with helpful teammates, Combusken can sweep the opponent's team.

[SET]

name: Swords Dance
move 1: Swords Dance
move 2: Flare Blitz
move 3: Sky Uppercut
move 4: Protect / Shadow Claw
item: Life Orb / Eviolite
ability: Speed Boost
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Swords Dance along with a Speed Boost is fairly threatening. Swords Dance allows it to work on its already high Attack and along with Life Orb, it can put a dent in the opposing Pokemon. Flare Blitz is a great STAB move from a base 85 Attack stat. Sky Uppercut, while not as powerful, allows Combusken to violate
expose the opposing Pokemon's Fighting type weakness and gives it an extra STAB move. Protect is a move that allows the user to let Combusken obtain a Speed Boost and then proceed to sweep. Shadow Claw is an alternative move that can be used to KO Ghost- or Psychic-types. Life Orb simply allows Combusken to deal greater damage. Adamant nature is used primarily due to Combusken's Speed Boost ability that along with Adamant can really boost up its speed and allow it to sweep.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Combusken would, like any other offensive Pokemon, require lots of hazard support. This will allow it to KO other Pokemon with relative ease. Wynaut is a useful teammate to have since it works well as a trapper allowing Combusken to set up Swords Dance and then proceed to sweep. Eviolite could be used if you want more set-up opportunities. Grass-types such as Roselia and Exeggcutor Exeggutor are helpful against Water-types as they can come in and Leaf Storm Water-types. Regirock also makes a good teammate as it can come into Rotom-S's Air Slash.

[Other Options]

Blaze is an alternative ability for Combusken that will boost moves such as Flare Blitz, but will leave it relatively slower and less capable of sweeping against Pokemon that are resistant to Fire-type moves. A mixed set is also viable due to its high Special Attack stats that match its Attack stats. Substitute and Toxic can be used as moves to stall the game and effectively essentially win.

[Checks and Counters]

There are several counters to Combusken, Quagsire and other bulky Water-types are good counters to Combusken and unless a Grass-type is a teammate of Combusken, it could easily 2-3HKO Combusken. Pokemon such as Tentacool and Frillish will also be good checks to Combusken. Any Pokemon that can take a boosted attack and hit back, is likely to counter Combusken.

Other than some spelling errors, this is pretty good. Just note that Roselia is out of the tier.

This is really... sparse. You need to expand basically every section. Basically instead of only saying what the Pokemon gets, say what it gets and why you should/shouldn't use it. Also list more teammates, explain things more, etc. GPers, please don't GP this until it's expanded and "QC" checked.

edit: i bolded the important part because apparently people can't read

Tennisace, did you consider that maybe I started my check before you posted? At the very least, you could have not deleted the bit at the top of my post that described concrete changes...

Anyway, going to restate what I stated there:

232 Spe to outspeed Modest Gorebyss and Adamant Scarf Sawk at +2
No Shadow Claw slash (all it hits is Frillish, which is rare; misdreavus you switch from unless you have a lot of boosts and haunter is lol); maaaay want to slash Rock Slide instead (Altaria); move both to OO at the very least (slot 4 should look like Protect/Rock Slide or just Protect)
Leafeon in AC as a teammate (bringing in Gorebyss is pretty ballsy) to get Samurott
No Blaze in OO, very much worse Emboar
Samurott in checks and counters
Tentacool out of C/C (Flare Blitz hurts)
Get rid of Eviolite
Nix mention of a mixed set (it has Hidden Power, Focus Blast and Fire moves... bar HP Grass, mix literally does nothing for it)
Altaria in C/C, mention in AC that Regirock also takes care of it
Pellipper in C/C (I don't think anybody uses it though)
Lampent in C/C
When mentioning Toxic/Sub in OO, mention them seperately (Sub is for getting speed boosts and avoiding status while toxic allows it to break down stuff like Quagsire etc.); Toxicstall is ass.

This is ready for GP, so let's do this!
[Overview]

Although Combusken is a Pokemon that would usually get brushed off due to its mediocre stats, but thanks to stat-boosting moves and abilities, Combusken can increase its stats to decent / excellent levels, allowing it it's ability, Speed Boost, and access to Swords Dance allows it to function as a viable sweeper in the NU metagame. Speed Boost, Combusken's ability, increases its Speed at the end of every turn, thus compensating for its low base Speed. hey, give badal some credit sandz! XD

also, just a note that you might want to remove or tweak the first sentence of set comments! I suggested that when I was under the impression that it absolutely needed the SD boost; apparently, there's a perfectly viable special attacking set x:
