[COMPLETED] Omastar

Anything goes
Weak WIP is weak so far. If anyone else has done some testing, tell me which sets work and which sets don't or some new sets if there are any. I'm going to test the three I have and create skeleton based on results ready!

QC APPROVED 3/3 - SOMALIA, PK Gaming, dragonuser
GP APPROVED 1/1 - piikachuu

[Pros]

Omastar possesses a decent base 115 Special Attack stat

It has access to one of the best boosting moves in the game, Shell Smash

It possesses an excellent base 125 Defense stat

It has good typing in conjunction with Weak Armor

It has access to all forms of entry hazards except Stealth Rock

Its access to Swift Swim makes it a potent threat in the rain

[Cons]

It is slow; it can be outsped by common Choice Scarf users even at +2 Speed

It has a massive weakness to Grass

Its movepool is extremely shallow.

It is weak to priority moves such as Mach Punch and Vacuum Wave

[Set Recommendations]

name: Shell Smash
move 1: Shell Smash
move 2: Hydro Pump / Surf
move 3: Ice Beam
move 4: Hidden Power Grass
ability: Swift Swim / Weak Armor
item: White Herb / Lum Berry
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
nature: Modest

 • Access to godly boosting move Shell Smash turns Omastar into a dangerous boosting sweeper
 • It's poor defensive typing gives it many opportunities to get an extra Weak Armor boost if it switches into a weak yet super effective physical attack
 • Can also switch into the many Pokemon in the tier it walls, such as Talonflame and Charizard X - mainly physically oriented Fire-, Flying-, Rock-, and Ice-types
 • White Herb allows it to keep its defenses, which is the ideal item for a mid- or late-game sweep.
 • Lum Berry prevents it from being paralyzed or otherwise statused
 • The accuracy boost in Hydro Pump gives Omastar all the more reason to use it, but if it's really paranoid about those misses, it can use Surf, but it got nerfed to 90BP, which will lose out on some vital KO's
 • Ice Beam is a great coverage move to hit all the Dragon-types roaming around
 • Though Hidden Power got nerfed, Hidden Power Grass is still a vital coverage move to have if it wishes to hit opposing Water-types
 • Timid allows it to outpace base 100 Speed Scarfers, and fast threats such as Mega Alakazam
 • A Fire-type teammate such as Talonflame or Charizard is extremely useful for getting rid of Ferrothorn, who completely counters Omastar.
[Checks and Counters]
 • Choice Scarf users
 • Lucario (Vacuum Wave)
 • Chansey
 • Ferrothorn
 • Mega Venusaur
 • Gyarados (especially if it has Earthquake)
 • Breloom (Technician Mach Punch)
 • Rotom-W

[Pros]

name: Shell Smash
move 1: Shell Smash
move 2: Hydro Pump / Surf
move 3: Ice Beam
move 4: Hidden Power Grass
ability: Swift Swim / Weak Armor
item: White Herb / Lum Berry
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
nature: Modest / Timid

Despite Omastar being in RU during the previous generation, it can be a potent and destructive sweeper in the OU metagame thanks to its access to the godly boosting move Shell Smash. It is able to switch in and set up on the many Pokemon in the tier it walls, such as Talonflame and most physically oriented Fire-, Flying-, Rock-, and Ice-types. Modest is the preferred nature here for extra firepower, though Timid allows Omastar to outspeed Choice Scarf users with base 100 Speed as well as fast Pokemon such as Mega Alakazam after a +2 boost. Hydro Pump serves as Omastar's main STAB attack, and it is able to rip holes in an opposing team after a +2 boost. Surf is also a choice to be considered if you are paranoid about missing, which can ruin a sweep if it happens. Ice Beam is an excellent coverage move to hit not only the Grass-types that Omastar is weak to, but also the many Dragon-types roaming around in the tier. Finally, even though Hidden Power was nerfed this generation, Hidden Power Grass is still a staple in this set, as it is required if Omastar wishes to hit opposing Water-types.

When selecting teammates for Omastar, a Fire-type is essential to have as they are able to easily handle Ferrothorn, which completely counters Omastar. Talonflame, as well as the less common Moltres, are great teammates that resist all of Omastar's weaknesses bar Electric. A physical attacker is also a good teammate to have, as there are a few special walls such as Chansey which can give Omastar a hard time. If you wish to kill two birds with one stone, many physical Fire-types such as the aforementioned Talonflame and Mega Charizard X exist and pair well with Omastar. Finally, Politoed is able to summon rain for Omastar, turning it into a very speedy threat, as well as bolstering the power of Hydro Pump to absurd levels.

[Checks and Counters]

As mentioned previously, Omastar is extremely slow; as such, many Choice Scarf users are able to come in, outspeed, and revenge kill Omastar even after a +2 boost, though you do need to sacrifice one Pokemon to do so. Omastar also fears priority; special variants of Lucario can hit hard with priority Vacuum Wave, and Technician Breloom can hit quite hard with Mach Punch, too. As for more reliable checks and counters, Ferrothorn completely walls Omastar and can stack hazards right in front of it. Chansey is also able to sponge hits quite well and hit Omastar with paralysis to stop it cold. Gyarados is also a good answer to Omastar, especially if it has Earthquake to hit Omastar for super effective damage. Specially defensive variants of Rotom-W can also stomach hits and hit back with its Electric-type STAB. Finally, Mega Venusaur is neutral to Ice thanks to Thick Fat and can strike back with its Grass-type STAB.

Anything goes
After some testing, I believe Omastar is outclassed by Forretress as a hazard setter but feel free to prove me wrong

This is QC ready

-It does not get Stealth Rock pre pokebank if I remember correct....

-Remove Focus Sash, this is not a Pokemon you lead with UNLESS you are to be using an entry hazard set.

-Instead, slash Lum Berry after White Herb.

-Slash Swift Swim (primary option) with weak armor.

-Slash Hydro Pump with Surf; I haven't come across any scenarios where it makes a huge difference.

-Slash Timid as a secondary option, you outpace base 100 neutral scarfers as well as agile vermin such as megazam

EDIT: Hold on, if this thing gets Spikes, then a suicide lead with Weak Armor..

Spikes / Scald / Ice Beam / filler can be used however that is for other QC members to decide.

Spoke to other QC members, just make the changes above and consider this

Ok so before I QC check this, I have a few comments:

-Add some mention of Swift Swim to Pros section, as that is a major reason to use this on a Drizzle team

-You need some mention of partners. Politoed makes for an excellent one, bringing Drizzle support for Swift Swim. I'd also mention some partners to handle nearly hard counters such as Ferrothorn, as it alone can completely stop Omastar.

just add some mention of drizzle bolstering Hydro Pump's power when you are talking about Politoed as a teammate

edit:

When selecting teammates to synergize with Omastar, a Fire-type is essential to have as they are able to easily handle Ferrothorn, who completely counters Omastar. A physical attacker is also a good teammate to have, as there are a few special walls such as Chansey who can give Omastar a hard time. If you wish to hit two birds with one stone, many physical Fire-types such as Talonflame and Charizard X exist and pair well with Omastar. Finally, Politoed is able to summon rain for Omastar, turning it into a very speedy threat.

I'd prefer if in addition to mentioning "a Fire-type is essential to have as they are able to easily handle Ferrothorn" you mention specific examples of Fire-types that work well with Omastar and beats its counters. The same for physical attackers that beat Chansey.

After that,

And by all means keep godly, seriously. It's the best description possible, arceus be damned

bop.
nitpicking but omastar does not wall charizard-x, in fact charizard-x has a very large chance to 1HKO with outrage at +0 after sr so pls remove that-788 Atk vs 286 Def & 281 HP (120 Base Power): 237 - 279 (84.34% - 99.29%)
