name: Dragon Dance
move 1: Dragon Dance
move 2: Waterfall
move 3: Crunch
move 4: X-Scissor
item: Life Orb
nature: Adamant / Jolly
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

With its newly acquired move, Dragon Dance, Crawdaunt now has the ability to raise its above average Attack and meager Speed. Water and Dark is a powerful type combination in UU, resisted only by Toxicroak and Poliwrath. Crawdaunt may seem very easy to revenge kill, but is very difficult to switch into after a Dragon Dance, as nothing enjoys taking a hit from an Attack stat of 558. Waterfall and Crunch are compulsory for their STAB and great type coverage. X-Scissor helps Crawdaunt dent its biggest counters, Tangrowth and Leafeon. Additionally, Taunt may be used in the last slot to ensure that Haze Milotic and Will-O-Wisp Weezing can't ruin your fun.

The EVs are straightforward: 252 Attack EVs are for maximum damage output, the Speed EVs allow Adamant Crawdaunt to outspeed everything up to positive base 91s. A Jolly nature is also usable to outpace key threats such as, Mismagius, Scyther, Leafeon, Arcanine, Jynx, Houndoom, and Drapion. An Adamant nature is almost always the better option, as it allows Crawdaunt to get the OHKOs and 2HKOs needed on certain Pokemon, but Jolly can be used if you worry about foes targeting its weak Special Defense.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Thanks to its ability to switch moves, Dragon Dance Craudaunt is more difficult to counter than the Choice Band set. However, there are some hard counters one needs to bear in mind when building a team around this Crawdaunt. Tangrowth and Leafeon can take Crawdaunt's hits very well with their sturdy Defense. The former can cripple it with Stun Spore, whereas the latter can destroy it with Leaf Blade. Pokemon that utilize Fighting-type priority moves, such as, Blaziken, Hitmontop, and Hitmonlee, can revenge kill Crawdaunt after it sets up. Milotic can come in, erase Crawdaunt's boosts via Haze, and KO it with Hidden Power Grass. Weezing can switch in on X-Scissor, and burn Crawdaunt with Will-O-Wisp. Registeel can also take a Waterfall at full health, and cripple Crawdaunt with Thunder Wave.

Pokemon that can take specially based Electric- and Grass- type attacks are effective partners to this set. Such partners include Venusaur, Chansey, and Exeggutor. Blaziken can also pair up well as a teammate, as Crawdaunt weakens the bulky Waters that prevent Blaziken from sweeping. Life Orb Arcanine can also be used, as it dents Registeel, Leafeon, and Tangrowth with its STAB Fire-type attacks. Claydol can take Electric- and Fighting- type hits for Crawdaunt, and put the hurt on Hitmonlee, Hitmontop, and Blaziken with Psychic. Stealth Rock is a necessity for Crawdaunt. Spikes may be used to weaken walls such as Registeel, and put them into Waterfall's KO range. Toxic Spikes may also prove useful for their ability to cripple Tangrowth and Leafeon.

name: Dragon Dance
move 1: Dragon Dance

move 3: Crunch
move 4: X-Scissor/Taunt
item: Life Orb
nature: Adamant / Jolly
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

- Outspeeds all non-choice scarfed Pokemon up to positive base 91s, after a DD.[Adamant]
- Outspeeds all non-choice scarfed Pokemon up to neutral base 120s, after a DD. [Jolly]
- Has dual STAB moves that are only resisted by Toxicroak and Poliwrath in UU, which are dented pretty hard by Aerial Ace, after a DD.

Additional Comments:

- Max attack with Adamant gives highest power damage input.
- Max attack w/ Jolly, allows you to outspeed key threats such as Arcanine, Mismagius, Houndoom and Scyther.
- Isn't really outclassed by Kingler, thanks to its secondary Dark type STAB, to muscle through bulky waters, and Pokemon that resist Water type attacks (i.e. Milotic/Leafeon). It can also raise its Attack and Speed in on turn, while Kingler needs two separate turns to raise both.
- X-Scissor is the best option against Leafeon
- Taunt can prevent Haze Milotic and Weezing from ruining your boosts with WoW or Haze

Teammates and Counters:

- Pokemon who can take specially based electric and grass type attacks for Crawdaunt because of its poor special defense (Venusaur, Chansey, Exeggutor, Tangrowth). Blaziken can be a good partner for this set, as Crawdaunt can weaken bulky water types after a DD for Blaziken (and can 2HKO most).
- Exeggutor can come into Tangrowth, hitmontop, hitmonlee and Milotic and severely hurt them
- LO Arcanine can weaken things like Registeel, Leafeon and Tangrowth
- SD Kabutops can alos lure in Leafeon/Tangrowth and weaken them out, so Crawdaunt can pick them off with X-Scissor.
-Its also vulnerable to status, such as Thunder wave and Will-o-Wisp.
- Claydol can be a good partner, resisting electric/grass/fighting while Crawdaunt resists water. Clyadol can also pick off Hitmonlee, Hitmotop and Blaziken with Psychic.
- If Crawdaunt is not set-up, things like Registeel and Spiritomb can inflict the aforementioned status conditions.
- Without set-up, virtually any special attacker can come in and finish Crawdaunt there and then. (Moltres, Specially based Venuasur, Thunderbolt/Hp Fighting Mismagius)
- Needs to hit Milotic on the switch with Crunch after a DD, to secure a 2HKO (else it's going to take plenty from Milotic's Hidden Power Grass.)

I am excited to test this, it looks pretty fun!

pretest notes:

- Need to remove fighting-type priority such as Blaziken, Hitmontop/Lee, and Toxicroak.
- Need to have something weaken Milotic.
- Leafeon / Tangrowth = :(

You mention Kingler, but I think you really need to talk about how this set is better than Feraligatr. Maybe mention that Crawdaunt beats Uxie/Mespirit and has a better neutral attack to hit things like Milotic. Still, doesn't seem like STAB Crunch and slightly higher ATK really doesn't make up for much lower speed, bulk, and vunerability to common priority, but I'll let the testers decide that.

You can slash Taunt on the last spot with a slightly bulkier spread to catch Registeel, WoW Weezing and Haze Milotic off ward. Also mention how Stealth Rock along Spikes are very important to secure some important 2HKOs after a boost. X-Scissor deserves a mention since it is your strongest move against Leafeon, one of this set´s best counters.

Good luck!

Easy approval. Very underrated set. Works great with LO arcanine who loves switching into Leafeon and Tangrowth. Also works well with SD Kabutops who lures and severely weakens those two.

Also, use X-Scissor in that last slot, it's wayyy better than Aerial Ace or return. It allows you to finish off weakened Leafeon and Tangrowth. I'd also agree with Taunt. I'd say X-Scissor / Taunt in the last slot.

Gotta use X-Scissor in the last slot, for sure. Gotta imagine outside of Milotic and Registeel, who you aren't going to do anything significant to anyway, grass types are going to be the main thing people try to counter you with, so you may as well at least be able to hit them harder on the switch(and it's the best option if they're weakened enough you can bonk them as part of a switch, too). AA is just trying to do the same thing but worse, and I can't imagine many situations you'd want to use Return over even just your STAB moves, which already have pretty good coverage. Your water stab is going to hit most Steel types who resist Crunch and X-scissor would hit other darks, you should never need to fall back on return.

Otherwise,

Thanks a lot for the feedback, will add in X-Scissor in the last slot, and LO Arcanine/SD Kabutops in Team Options.

Pardon me for double posting, but this a bump. Just need to get one more stamp so I can get on with the real analysis. So far the bulky Crawdaunt has been doing okay with the spread 252HP/80Atk/176Spe with leftovers. Though it needs spikes support to achieve some 2HKOs. Although it needs to be at full health to take on some strong hits.

X-Scissor should be the primary option in the last slot to dent Tangrowth and Leafeon for sure. Taunt is pretty useless IMO

Moving to UU forum, you can write the analysis up now. Also fuk Crabhammer, I'd scrap it completely. Waterfall is always better.

Hello C&C, this is my first moveset analysis, and since English isn't my first language the analysis will definitely need grammar checks.

Corrections in red.

A Jolly nature is also usable to out speed neutral base 120s after a Dragon Dance boost, such as Arcanine, Mismagius, Houndoom and Scyther.
Arcanine / Houndoom are base 95 (289 neutral, 317 +ive), and Mismagius / scyther are base 105 (339 with +ive nature). 120s are 372 Speed mons (339 with neutral nature). So you should list Sceptile, Dugtrio, and Alakazam (though they're rarely seen with a neutral nature) or better yet, list +natured base 105s.

Even though this is minor, I think the EV spread should be 8 HP / 248 Atk / 252 Spe. With 8 HP Evs, you hit 269 HP which is a LO number.

Don't have time to explain errors like I usually do, I'll edit later if I have the chance. Withholding stamp until changes are implemented.

EDIT: Changes made, so

Thanks Draco Zephyr, Prof. Elm for the grammar checks. Heysup, I just took out the part talking about neutral base 120s, since they are rare as you mentioned. Added 105 mons (scyther, mismagius), as well as leafeon(SD), and other positive natured 95 base speed mons. Implemented grammar changes as well.

Fuck you Crawdaunt, why doesn't Kingler get Waterfall?

EDIT: Yes, yes, I knew I was missing something. Four pokemon resist Water/Dark in the Sharpedo analysis...>.<

Thanks Dr. Reid for the GP Check, implemented the changes.

Um, I don't think its necessary to mention Shiftry and Cacturne, since both are x4 weak to X-Scissor, and are OHKOd by it even without any boosts. Poliwrath and Toxicroak are specifically mentioned since they take reduced damage from all of Crawdaunt's attacks, including X-Scissor.

Changes in bold and removals in red. I'm not sure this required another GP check, but I am actually slightly confused by the spread. The extra 4 HP evs make a very minimal difference to the percentage damage taken from Life Orb, not to the actual damage taken. You are probably better off just going for a 4/252/252 spread. Unless you intent Crawdaunt to be taking hits frequently, the HP evs will make little difference.

GP Check 3/3.

Alright, thanks for the GP check, made the changes. Yes, the life orb change was minor, but thanks for clearing up the part about life orb damage anyway, I agree with you there.

So, now I just need 1 more stamp of approval from Draco Zephyr

EDIT: Never mind, got the stamp.
