[SET]
name: Choice Band
move 1: Brave Bird
move 2: U-Turn
move 3: Cross Poison / Super Fang
move 4: Sleep Talk / Roost
item: Choice Band
ability: Infiltrator / Inner Focus
nature: Jolly / Adamant
evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

With a Choice Band attached, Crobat eschews its role as a defensive pivot and instead uses its speed and newfound power to become a swift, deadly assassin. Brave Bird is the core of the set, functioning as a powerful STAB move which allows Crobat to outspeed and OHKO a vast majority of offensive Pokemon in the tier. It also deters all but the most physically bulky Pokemon from safely switching in. U-Turn allows Crobat to maintain momentum, and punishes physically bulky Pokemon by damaging them and then bringing them face-to-face with a counter. Cross Poison, while a poor move with limited coverage, is nonetheless Crobat's only option for covering the ubiquitous Electric-type Pokemon in UU. Note that Cross Poison's use is highly situational, as even a resisted Brave Bird 2hkos offensive variants of Zapdos and Raikou after Stealth Rock. Super Fang is an option to strip 50% from the health of Bronzong, Rhyperior, Magneton, Registeel, and other physically bulky Pokemon which Crobat cannot otherwise harm. These Pokemon typically lack reliable recovery, giving the move substantial utility. The final slot is highly situational. Sleep Talk may seem like an odd choice, but several of the Pokemon Crobat enjoys switching into are grass types, and commonly pack Sleep Powder. Given the sleep mechanics in the current generation, Sleep Talk could be the difference between a useful Pokemon and death fodder. Roost is an option to alleviate the residual damage Crobat will be accumulating from Stealth Rock and Brave Bird recoil. It is best used to save Crobat from near-death, as using Roost will cost a substantial amount of momentum.

Neither of Crobat's abilities are more than incidentally useful, but the choice is nevertheless worth discussing. Infiltrator allows Crobat to ignore Reflect, which could be very useful against dual screen hyper offense teams that rely on it to shield their frail sweepers. Inner Focus, on the other hand, dissuades Mienshao and Ambipom from using Fake Out, and also allows Crobat to beat Togekiss even while paralyzed. The choice of nature also has trade-offs: Jolly allows Crobat to outrun every Pokemon in the tier without speed boosts, and a few Pokemon even with speed boosts (such as Choice Scarf Chandelure and slower variants of Dragon Dance Kingdra). Adamant, on the other hand, secures important OHKOs, such as against +1 Bulk Up Scrafty and max HP Togekiss after Stealth Rock. It also secures 2HKOs against physically defensive Slowbro and Swampert. The inability to outrun any Pokemon above base 115 speed with an Adamant nature is a marked disadvantage, however.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Crobat does not have many other options as its physical movepool is abysmal. Steel Wing might be tempting, but it barely scratches the Rock-types one would want to use it against. Giga Drain, on the other hand, scores a solid 2HKO on Rhyperior, Omastar, and Kabutops. All of these Pokemon would likely switch out before taking the second hit, however, and Giga Drain does very little to every other Pokemon likely to switch into Crobat. Pursuit is an option to damage fleeing Pokemon, but will do pitiful damage to any enemy that does not switch. Quick Attack is good for evading Sucker Punch and getting some damage on opposing sweepers that have boosted past what even Crobat can catch, but it's an incredibly weak move in general.

Crobat enjoys exploiting its immunity to Ground and its 4x resistances to Fighting- and Grass-type attacks. Crobat's resistances allow it to switch in to some of the most common Pokemon in the tier, including Roserade, Hitmontop, Shaymin, Heracross, and Mienshao. Be wary of the coverage moves these Pokemon commonly carry, however. Crobat's minimal defensive investment means that moves such as Stone Edge, Psychic, and Hidden Power Ice will do massive damage. Swampert is a natural teammate for Crobat, being able to switch easily into the Rock- and Electric-type attacks that plague Crobat. Crobat, in return, easily stomachs any Grass-type attack aimed at Swampert. Crobat also enjoys Rapid Spin support, and pairs well with both Blastoise and Hitmontop. It should be noted that Crobat does not have the power to sweep through healthy teams by itself, so it appreciates being paired with powerful attackers that can weaken the opposing team to the point where Crobat can use its speed to clean up. Flygon is a natural fit, if one does not mind the shared Ice-type weakness, as is Sharpedo.

I would remove that bit about outrunning +1 Kingdra since the upcoming revamp will be using quite a bit more Speed. Other than that, this looks good,

Banned deucer.
Maybe mentioning Super Fang somewhere in AC? It isn't very useful but it can act as a last resort against something like Rhyperior

Other than that

I think that Super Fang should be slashed in the last slot with Roost, and AcroLOLbatics should be moved to AC at best, come on people we are talking about a 55 BP move people in COMPETITIVE pokemon. Even in the very rare case where you would need it, good luck becoming set-up bait for everything afterwards. Shaving off 50% of any of your counters before switching out is awesome isn't it?

You have a slight legality problem with this set. The combination of Double-Edge and Brave Bird is illegal. Brave Bird is a 4th/5th gen egg move while Double-Edge is a 3rd gen only tutor move.

You know, kids, a lot has changed since your old Uncle PK's been away. New UU, new rules... even a new Crobat. But now I'm tanned, I'm rested and I'm ready to give this old metagame a wedgie again!

 • Acrobatics should probably be replaced by Aerial Ace. The chances of your item getting knocked away are astronomically slim, and I think you have a higher chance of running into a scrub player running Brightpowder.
 • This kind of goes without saying, but with Double-Edge being illegal with BB, Cross Poison should be the only move option on the 3rd slot. (Jeez it's offensive movepool is small...)
 • Pursuit probably deserves a mention in AC. It's weak as hell and can screw you over (if your opponent assumes your running the standard set and stays in...) but being able to get heavy damage on a fleeing Chandelure/Froslass & xatu is "kind" useful?
 • Choiced Roost rubs the wrong way, but I really can't think of another move Crobat can run. Stress that in the actual analysis, Roost should only be used in emergencies (IE: When you're in SR death range, and you can force something out, you roost instead.)

Sorry about the legality issues guys, Showdown doesn't have egg move restrictions implemented yet (ran into a spikes + sleep powder roserade -__-). Will get rid of Double-Edge.

Koko, how much speed are we talking about it having in the revamp? DD Kingdra needs near-max speed (263, which I think is around 224 EVs) to outrun max speed Crobat. I honestly wouldn't approve a kingdra set with that little bulk / power, because it really doesn't need any more than 247 speed (outruns adamant honch unboosted, outruns raikou at +1, scarfgon at +2).

I like the idea of super fang, actually. I will slash that next to Roost. Acrobatics has saved me in matches where I need to clean up multiple weakened opponents without dying to recoil, but I'll remove it if that's the consensus.

We're talking at least enough to beat Scarf Mienshao (the new fastest Scarf user) at +2. We'll see about maxing it out when the actual revamp comes--there would have to be a better reason than just beating Jolly Crobat at +1, though. I guess you can leave it in for now and we'll edit it out later if necessary; just make sure to specify it won't outrun fully invested Kingdra when you write it up.

I know that Crobat would mostly be spamming Brave Bird and U-turn, but Giga Drain and Naive would do 43-51% to fatty's 252 HP / 236 SpD Rhyperior and 57-68% to 208 HP / 48 SpD Rhyperior on-site. With Spikes support, a well-timed Giga Drain can put Rhyperior in a range that would prevent it from taking 2 successive CB Brave Bird next time Crobat comes out.

Seeing how Crobat is a solid answer to Roserade, why not an AC mention of Sleep Talk? This would provide a decent sleep absorber that is not death fodder after it's put to sleep.

Slashed in Sleep Talk because I thought it was worth it. Gave an AC mention to everything else. I should have everything covered now, will start writing if there's no other comments.

Koko almost the entire last part of AC talks about teammates. Swampert, Flygon, Sharpedo, Blastoise, and Hitmontop are mentioned explicitly. I figured that was enough.

Mikel, if this was your analysis, that check would be very good but the fact is that you changed / added way too much to it, effectively making it yours. Please avoid doing that in the future; if the prose of an analysis is satisfactory (it's very good in this case, FlareBlitz is a long time contrib), focus on grammar and formatting. If you have something subjective to add, put a recommendation in orange text. I'll be doing the second check on this.
